i will assume it is capacitive as well. if you do not need pressure to use the touch screen and it allows multi touch its usually capacitive.

Yes, the touchscreen is capacitive.

Sounds like Core Temp.

@CityPig yea that was it thanks!

What is it with this computer and flash upon wakeup? -.- No matter what I do, the crashing problem keeps coming back. I really with I could still return this...
-
Hi, guys & girls.. I've been a lurker here for a little while (okay more like 2 months, but lets deal with that later) and I've been hesitating on pulling the trigger on a DV6T or DV6TSE, and came to the conclusion that I will be getting the regular DV6. I have 'light' customization, with just the I5-460M.
I have a question.. I ordered the laptop on the 2nd, and est. ship date is the 13th. Will the laptop be shipping slower than the SE? Or should I anticipate a ship date of tomorrow (the 10th PST).. Thanks for any help. =) -
What happens to your computer after sleeping and flash? I dont have any issues. I havent done a clean install yet. Just uninstalled a bunch of the HP stuff.
-
It shouldnt be any faster or slower than the SE models. you might be lucky if there is almost no wait. you are basically still in line to get a computer made for you.
-
If it goes to sleep with a flash video open, it'll freeze shortly after wake-up.
-
Thanks! Btw, are there any reviews on the regular edition here?
-
i dont know if anyone else is having this problem here, but for some reason, i cannot put my 9 cell battery into my laptop fully.... like it wont lock in....
-
did you slide in the rear(bulge side) the battery first before you push in the top front??
Also can anyone give me a discharge rate estimate for power save mode??
On my 9 cell, my battery life time is now only 4 hrs on light web usage. Discharge rate 13,638mW 5% wear after 2 months. -
yes.... i think somethin is messed up, im sending it back
-
Hey guys, bought this computer the other day and i've noticed the webcam keeps freezing, is there a driver or something that fixes this?
-
Hmm I don't have a problem with my webcam
-
give me a site and ill try it out.
-
Um... YouTube?
-
No problem here...tested both s3 s4 on a random flash site
-
good one...ha
yeah i tried that and hulu. no issues. -
so i tried out ubuntu 64 bit in vmware. playing a hulu vid in ubuntu regular quality and i was very surprised at how smooth the system is still running. on a i520 using intel graphics at the time of the screenshot.
-
So I just got my laptop today and have done basically all the first day stuff (reinstalling windows, drivers, etc).
One thing Im wondering about is the 24 bit sound option talked about in the first post.
Is there any disadvantage to going to 24 bit sound, or putting on bass boost and such? Will it drain your battery faster? Why would hp put it on 16 bit to begin with? (I don't know shiat about this, but as far as I know, 24-16 = 8).
edit: also, what fingerprint reader software should I be using? I forget what came with the PC... -
Well, my next consideration would be the browser. The problem happens on Firefox and Chrome.
-
Well I'm only using firefox 3.6.10 x86.

Hey guys I wanted to see if my temps are high without scrolling back through the hundreds of pages on here.
I have 6 gbs ram and an i7 720 @ 1.60 Ghz.
Right now i have 4 internet tabs running, skype, onenote and word running and my temp is 58C and my usage is fluctuating between 0 and 10 percent. Is this high. The bottom of the comp feels like it's burning up. -
I've just bought the same computer, mine are pretty similar, i'd be interested to work out how you could increase the fan speeds. Yes it runs quite and reasonably cool for an i7 I would rather slightly lower temps at the cost of extra fan noise.
-
I'm actually ok with the temps (sorta-seems kinda high for very low usage) but it's actually the fan noise that bothers me. I'll often be in class using one note and the fans will kick on out of nowhere and there's no way to turn it off without putting my computer to sleep. Very obnoxious...probably should have gotten the i5 but didn't want my computer to be obsolete in 2-3 years.
I'm currently running 6 tabs in firefox one of which is pandora, word, skype and speed fan and am showing temps of 68 C which seems very high considering I'm not doing anything extensive. -
Temps are pretty are high during the first few weeks. It should drop significantly after a week of curing.
Try not do to long periods of stress testing for awhile.
Mines atm is 33 C with 2 VM, media, mail, mess, firefox with 6 tabs, 3 pdf, 2 calcs -
Had mine for a couple months... It was mellow the first month, and after first month got pretty hot and has stayed right around the same range which is why I'm just now posting all this.
-
Did you applied your own thermal paste??
------
What is your ambient temps?
Did you provide some clearance from the exhaust vents like ~5 in?
Did you clean the vents? -
Hi Falco152:
I have virtually the same setup. At idle using Intel Graphics the CPU hovers between 30-40 degrees. Using the ATI 5650 Graphics, the CPU idles around 40-50 degrees. I have used AS5 on both the CPU & GPU. Unfortunatley, I have experienced any sustained decrease in temperarute.
Before the application of AS5, running a blu-ray movie got the CPU in the mid 90's and the notebook froze. It still gets high but not as much. Perhaps Zalman would like to make aftermarket notebook cpu/gpu coolers.

Hey does anyone know if this laptop supports the Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS 500GB or owns one? I'm looking at upgrading to this but unsure if it's all working swell with this laptop. I ask this because I know of people who have had issues with other laptops.
-
Ambient temps is a major factor. Another factors are the material of the surface it lies on, clearances of the intake and out vents ...etc
For example...the room is usually ~26C midday, and regardless of gpu in use, my idle cpu is usually ~27-30C peaks off 70C at max usage. The material it lies on is a small paper box, I have a 2 cm clearance of the intake due to the 9 cell bulge and the exhaust vent is clear. I regularly clear the vents once every month with a simple blast of compress air to dislodge any buildup. -
I haven't applied any of my own thermal paste as I didn't want to get into taking apart a new computer and possibly voiding the warranty.
I'm generally using my comp in the law school library which is generally around 65 F as are the classrooms. I'm using the computer on a wooden table and I brought by 9 cell battery today to see if the clearance made any difference in temp and i'm still at 64 degrees celsius running one note and 3 firefox tabs one of which is playing pandora. This seems high for how little I'm doing on an i7 none the less.
Thanks -
Yah I feel like that is really high, I use my dv6 with the i7 at school and on power saver with granola mine never goes above 45* Celsius with internet, 3 or more tabs, word and powerpoint all open. Of course i'm not streaming things...but still.
-
You know, it funny seeing the CPU at 80-85% load encoding a 1080p video when less than a year ago I was using a computer which went into 100% load watching standard definition YouTube vids. XD
-
Thanks, that sounds much more reasonable. Streaming pandora should definitely not be too taxing and my comp is only showing that I'm using around 4 percent and that's a generous estimate. It's often around 1 percent. I guess I'll have to get on the phone with HP when i get a second and see what they can do. My other comp is a total P of S so I'm hoping there's some other fix then having to go back to that one for a few weeks...months?
-
Using only 80% of the cpu to encode a video, either it's a curse or a blessing in disguise
Try get in touch with HP and Good Luck. -
Hey guys, I think I've run into an annoying problem and am wondering if anyone else has experience this. I have the dv6t se- i7-720M - ATI Mobility w/1GB dedicated and for some reason, it gets 3 seconds into a youtube vid, then my screen flickers. When I restart the vid, I get a blue screen saying my graphics card failed. This has happened at least four times to me in the past two days. (I don't youtube often) Any ideas?
-
I've been getting a similar thing where my entire screen goes black and comes back on and it tells me my ATI driver failed and recovered. It happens a couple times per day but since it recovers within a second it hasn't bothered me too much. It generally happens when streaming flash videos.
-
sdlaw I get that, but if I try to force watch the video by reloading or just waiting, it blue screens. Does that happen to you? If it's a flash thing, shouldn't a update of flash solve it? because that is not working. . . .
-
Update the graphics driver. That should fix fix the problem. At least it did for me.
-
Citypig, that would be 10.8 right? I just installed that and still BSOD. . .

Hey Guys,
I was on ebay I found a keyboard cover for our laptops..
I am still unsure on the durability of the coating on our keyboards. It looks similar to my Dell E6500 and over time the "soft" rubbery type of material seems like it will wear down and cause a shine to the most used keys. I picked one up and will post some pics when i get it. looks like it will be coming from china...

Hi, guys back again... So, after several months, I got a new issue to diagnose! Yay!
YouTube - Flicker
I just didn't bother cutting it but if you skip over to 2:10 it'll start to flicker around 2:15 and if you watch the remaining 15 seconds or so you'll see the image trying to sync (2:27) or something. Anyone know of a fix? It's HDMI out to a second monitor.
Or rather, has anyone even gotten the issue?
It appears around 8/10 times, the other two times it works fine with zero problems.
*Should also mention that even if the problem appears, the monitor works completely fine it's just an annoying horizontal flicker. It does not happen on the main screen though... ever.
The flicker happens at random times, sometimes it appears twice in short intervals or it appears every couple minutes. -
Did you uninstall the old driver first?
-
Yup. Still the same. Though it does go for twice as long before dying now. . .
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
@FatPigs Well this probably won't help you have likely already done this, but all I can think of is that it could be a problem with the graphics card, since thats where the hdmi is connected to. Try uninstalling/reinstalling the graphics driver and then test it.
As a side-ish note, I would love to know how many times people on here (and other NBR forums) have recommended to other people that they update the graphics card driver. It seems like theres a post related to that on every page of these threads lol -
Quite a lot. Heck, I updated right away when I first noticed a video related problem within 10 mins after turning on for the first time, back when the HP Official site dv6 drivers wasn't available.
Some reason, HP seem to ship them with borked or outdated drivers/firmware that contributed to other problems.
Resolving software problems are much easier and quicker than hardware problems in factory installs. -
wohoo!!! just found a quick fix that doesn't require any reinstalls. Apparently for some reason my graphics card is having problems with h.264. I just opened a random flash site, went to flash setting, and undid the acceleration. No more BSOD
Hope this helps other peeps!
