Well that is a horrible solution, its more avoiding the problem.
What browser and flash version build you were using?
-
hey , guys, i'm planning to sell my 08 macbook pro and join the crowd.
after an mbp my thoughts are:
-docking station (which i miss too much after my last hp)
-better processor
-better graphics
-more memory and storage (i'm currently running a 120gb ssd internal)
-windows(!!)
and i would like to ask just to ensure:
-i think i didn't see anywhere the hp-all-in-one connectivity port and it's really a dealbreaker.. is it there?
-as i just understood when configuring, it would be more beneficial to get i5 with internal graphics switchable to 5650 than i7 for the sake of mobility and battery life? do those graphic cards switch seamlessly?
-is the touchscreen worth it? does it glare and reflect more than usual one?(my touchsmart 2500z was very dim and it couldn't do anything in the street. and i mean you did see nothing)
Thanks -
This model doesn't have a docking station, nor does it seem to have that connectivity port. I think only the business models have docking stations now (and maybe the dv8).
-
oh now i see, the older dv6t's have that port for xb4 dock
but the newer dv6 and se ones don't have that. may anyone suggest will newer docking station that connects to the laptop via the usb port charge the dv6se? i see the replicator bar has the power pin and it uses the AC laptop charger, it would be dumb to power up just the usb hub, right? but would it charge the laptop via that usb connection? -
Go with Sony EB series... Full HD display with the same specs of Dv6t...
-
Does anyone have a modification to change from white led keyboard to red? anyone
-
It is very much avoiding the problem but it does work. I don't know what else to do. If you have a suggestion let me know!!!!
But in answer to your question:
Flash 10.1
Browsers used:
Chrome
Firefox
IE 32 bit and 64 bit (I know 64 has issues that are unrelated, but I thought I'd give it a try)
all recently updated to the latest versions
I reinstalled flash and my video card driver. Together and separately. Multiple times. It just seems that for some reason, h.264 breaks something? If I use the youtube html5 there's no problem. . . -
The browser info is a bit vauge...can you post the exact build version and specify if it x86 or x64 build.
Something tells me you are using non stable builds, which makes a lot of sense.
-
Chrome 6.0.472.63
Firefox 3.6.10
not sure if it was the x86 or x64 for either. I download the default if the x64 is not available?
IE 8.0.7600.16385 (both x64 and x86)
I don't think it's a browser issue. It doesn't make sense that all four browsers are not stable builds -
hey, i'm a boy, not a girl
btw, i don't see any advantages of sony eb (sony f would be nicer) but F's are built not too solid and all newer vaios are notorious for battery drain even in standby and terrible battery life.
i cross shop only the metal laptops, i sure do like my mbp's exterior design. as the port replicator works with both dv6t and envy 15 similarly, i'm even leaning towards envy15 now.
it's powerful, it's metal, it has better graphic card and screen, it doesn't have the interior optical drive and i would think it's not a minus for me too. -
I don't get what the bold is supposed to mean...
And the Envy 15 has been discontinued. -
common, they are pink, funny green , plastic, purple, well i don't want one which CAN be such joyful and colorful. i choose functionality and performance over the ability to make keyboard lime green on pink happy plastic case. really. i think i'll stick with some envy left in stock or dv6t se configured to top i5+5650, i guess both of them will be nice to have. i'll need to import
it to ukraine so most of all i would hate - is the problems vaios have right from the start, that are mentioned everywhere.. -
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
@apkraven The Envy 15 is a great choice. Excellent performance, and its only an inch thick and 5.18 pounds. The screen is also really nice when you calibrate it using one of JJB's calibrations (he is a user on the ENvy 15 2nd Gen forum, here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/450884-official-hp-envy-15-2nd-gen-owners-lounge.html) Unfortunately, HP made the stupid decision to leave out the ability for switchable graphics, so battery life is pretty poor. Also, there is no option for a backlit keyboard, which bothers me more than I thought it would.
EDIT: Just wanna say one more time, the screen (when calibrated) is VERY nice. Beats the crap out of the dv6tse screen. -
hey guys, after been playing around and tweaking on my dv6z, i think finally i decide to reinstall my windows without all the mega bloatware from HP
my question is, is there been such a review on what important drivers that musnt be left out?
i know the main drivers one, but what about the minor drivers?
my laptop came with Factory Restore DVD and also Win7 DVD, but i choose not to use the Factory Restore as it will just reinclude all the bloatware right into the factory state
thanks -
3 Month user of the Dv6tse here..
Whenever I view movies...dvds..HD youtube videos, the picture is never sharp..kind of low quality i guess, it's really kind of disappointing. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? With the resolution I should get crisp 720 video, correct? DVDs look better on my girlfriend's 500 dollar Asus from Staples, honestly. -
Just ordered one, build date Nov 1. Too long!
-
apkraven, I've had two Vaios. The battery life is terrible, by the end it was 20 minutes max without an adaptor. Other than that, I haven't had much of a problem. (My family also had an FW, CR, and an ancient desktop from the very first DVD/CD-RW combo drives) Surprisingly, the bloatware is not anywhere near close to the amount HP puts onto it. You can even get the clean install.
The price right now for the custom F series is actually really comparable with the dv6t se in specs and price if there isn't a good coupon around. (The VAIO can be made with a higher end i7 but that doesn't seem to apply if you are going to stick with the i5. . .) But the vaio does not have a bioscan at all, and the custom built does not have backlit keyboard. I ended up choosing the dv6t mostly bc the F doesn't fit in a messenger bag.
I think the EB can be bought in a plain black. I am happy with my Dv6t se now, but I have to admit. For the first few days, when I was uninstalling bloatware, I was ready to throw it out :s
Just a heads up, I don't know about the others who got their dv6t se recently, but mine is a silver with a pale eggplanty pink. -
@silverlyblue
Can you post a link that it been crashing on?? Just something similar
It is odd how the x86 is crashing based on enabled 3d acceleration.
I'm not facing any problem with any browsers on stable dev builds on either x86 nor x64.
Try following this for driver reinstall

---------------------------------
Also the dv6 3rd gen monitor is really poor compared to the dv6 2nd gen, which is much more crisper. Even they got the same native resolution. I do notice weird fuzzy dots throughout the screen and is common to the dv6 3rd gen monitors I seen. It's really noticeable on dark images. -
@Falco152 even badger badger on youtube fails. Any youtube video, with the flash accelerator on or anything on vimeo will BSOD or at least crash the graphics card. The error is not too picky
-
Then its a driver issue...
or faulty hardware.
I thought you had a more specific problem which that I have yet encountered.
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
@Falco Agreed. The 3rd gen screen is total crap. That was 90% of why I returned mine and went for an Envy 15. The screen on this thing is 10000000 x better than the dv6tse screen. Unfortunately, my Envy 15 is going back this weekend.

Is there a way to disable the touch on the buttons that are a part of the touchpad? I don't really understand how I'm supposed to right click if every time I attempt to click something it moves the cursor. It's also going to make it nearly impossible to play a game.
-
Hey guys, i'm running into an issue where whenever I watch a video or play a game on full screen, it randomly exits out of my video to the normal size (youtube/hulu) or shrinks my game to desktop, doesn't close it. Anyone have any solutions or run into the same thing?
I have the newest ATI driver from HP...I think the problem started before I updated though. -
Is this on the IGP or the 5650?
-
Its both...the monitor is not that great.
As the game or video breaking out of full screen, hmm try to look for what app that keeps breaking focus.
I forgot which app that helps you detect the focus lost to... -
5650, i7 model doesn't have intel graphics
-
I haven't seen that...
Also, since you have an i7, you don't need to use HP's graphics driver. You can use the one from AMD if you wish. Since HP's is a little bit outdated, you could give the official one (10.8 for notebooks) a try. -
Sorry to burst your bubble..
As unusual it sounds but actually the HP Radeon driver is later than the official <del>ATI</del> AMD driver for once
Plus I seen it before, has been resolved. But the solution is different depending who's application requesting focus.
This is most likely not a driver issue but a software issue that is requesting focus. -
Which is, of course, impossible. The date of the driver is later, but the HP driver VERSION uses CCC 10. 7 while the current version is CCC 10. 8. Plus, 10.10 should be coming soon.
-
The current HP driver is 10.8 with +1 minor revision.
But I think youre right about the CCC being a 10.7 version, maybe that was the revision.
It doesn't say straight out its 10.8 but the driver is 8.752.1.0 vs the actual 10.8 mobility 8.752.0.0
Plus I have some games that refused to run on any variants of 10.7 drivers, but works in <10.6 and 10.8. -
Hm. Well, they're probably the exact same thing except with whatever minor revisions HP made for switchable graphics.
-
Oh yeah forgot about the switchable
Sad, I use it often too haha
-
Okay thanks guys...How do I figure out if it is an application causing the problem?
-
hey guys, I need your help updating drivers and if someone can help remove a virus/whatever that makes explorer crashing that would be great! My skype is : eric1012226 or pm me!
Thanks,

So I have three questions:
1) How do I configure my hotkeys on the left of my keyboard? I'd like them to open different programs but I can't find the configuration options for the HP Quicklaunch Buttons (which I assume is what handles those keys).
2) How do I make it so that having my finger on the trackpad buttons doesn't interfere with my using the trackpad?
3) How do I set it so that I have to hit Fn + a key to use the functions and have the f1, f2, f3, etc. not need Fn to be pressed. I'd like to use those at the press of a button rather than having to hit Fn + F1 etc. as it is now. -
5650. Videos just aren't crisp and sharp. I can only assume this is because the screen is low quality, such a disappointment actually.
-
1) Google sharpkeys; a key re-mapper
2) No clue
3) Go to bios settings and turn active keys on or off. (f10 on startup to load bios) -
Hi! after much thought i finally decided to purchase a dv6zse 3050us. I was leaning towards the dv6tse but due to a time constraint i had to go for the 3050us. It turns out that the piece i got was DOA and i had to send it back for a refund. Pretty disappointing. Now, my question is, do you guys really think the dv6tse is worth it? i did happen to see a great deal on logicbuy. i could get my hands on a dv6tse with an i5 580m, 6gb ram, 640gb hdd etc, for just about 950usd. After having gone through all the pages on this thread, the number of people returning their laptops, is a bit of a concern. Especially because of the display, since i plan to keep it for photo editing.
i'm coming from a five year old compaq 2710us. still running a semrpon with 512mb ram. i'm hoping the screen would be atleast as good as that. i couldn't find the specs for the display on this one so if any of you have used it or have an idea how they compare, it would be great to have your opinions. The display is probably my main worry right now which is keep my back from ordering it.
Please help me out. Thanks -
The screen does leave some things to be desired, it could have a higher resolution and have better color contrast, but there are SOO many great things about this computer. Especially with the i5-580, that thing will be fast! But there is always SOMETHING that you can find to hate about any product that is purchased. So in the end it will just be your personal preferences
Ps if the 580 was out when I was buying, I might have got it instead of the i7 purely for raw speed and batter life, so lucky you!
-
Well, i do understand what you're trying to say but at the same time i am not to fussy about such things, which is the reason why i'm not even looking for a laptop with a full hd display or anything of the sort. This particular laptop does seem very appealing, especially because of the amazing power it packs at such a price. i just don't want to end up getting it and then regret the purchase because of the screen. as i said earlier i plan to do photo editing on it. this can possibly be the only reason why i MIGHT, if ever, end up hating it. i wouldn't have any issues with the keyboard flex, or heat or stuff like that which a lot of users have a problem with. not saying that they're wrong in expecting better results but just the fact that i'm not as much of an enthusiast as them and thus i wouldn't bother much over it.
what's your experience been like with this so far? how do you rate the display? how does it do in comparison to your previous laptops?
i've been doing a whole lot of researching on this model and i'm very confused because of the mixed opinions. the videos i saw on youtube did a good job of convincing me that the display isn't as bad as it seems but then again i am skeptical
it couldn't be as bad as my 5 year old laptop, could it? -
I love the laptop, but the screen is just average at best. My girlfriend bought an Acer from Staples for ~500 dollars, nothing special, i3 processor, 3gb RAM, ect. The screen on that is much better than on this computer, and going from watching "The Office" on her laptop to mine, I can definitely see a difference in clarity and sharpness.
The resolution is decent for what I need it for, but I don't do and programming or need lots of windows open at once. I play games on the laptop and the resolution actually helps performance-wise.
Just my 2 cents.
Edit: Put Asus, meant Acer. -
@Mrsp: I really REALLY like my dv6. The i7 is super capable and it can handle anything I throw at it. The screen is decent for me but i'm coming from a lower resolution HP.
I say go for it and buy it, if you don't like the screen when you get it, just send it back withing 20 days, no questions asked refund
-
Saw a dv6 today at Walmart. It was in the bottom cage thing, collecting dust. AMD version, I think. $698 is a bit much.
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
@Mrsp There is no way in hell you could ever use a dv6t/zse for photo editing without an external monitor. You would be out of buisness before you started.
-
Can anyone comment on how bad the battery sticks out from the bottom? I've read it sticks out some on the high capacity battery, does it also on the standard 6 cell?
Thanks -
No its completely in on the 6 cell, can't comment for the high capacity battery. Also where can you get the high capacity battery? Never heard of it till now.
-
When customizing the DV6T Select Edition, under battery on the HP website, there is a selection for 'high capacity' battery thats also a 6 cell, and is supposed to fit the same as the normal battery.
I found an image in this thread that kind of shows what I'm talking about. Maybe its just me, but i see a little bit of the battery that isn't flat with the back surface
-
Happens for some, but it's flush for others. It's nothing concerning, though.
-
Mine looks like the picture. It's not an issue for me though. The battery is worth it.
As for the screen, the low resolution is a mixed blessing. For gaming, it allows you to run games at your native resolution and get better performance because of it. But, it's also a low resolution. I'm used to it except for the 768 part...I kinda wish I had some more pixels on the vertical axis. The screen quality isn't terrible either. I'm coming from an Asus N61Jq and this screen is light years ahead of it in terms of quality. I just had to turn the gamma down by about 15% and lower the brightness a tad in the ATI color panel. -
Thats kind of unfortunate. If I pick up this laptop I'll just have to take my chances with it I guess.
I was also wondering, is there that big of a difference between the 460 and 560/580 i5 processors? Is it noticeable?
