Hi I'm considering getting this laptop and I have a question: what is the weight of each of these components: the laptop without battery, 6-cell battery, 9-cell battery and power cord/adapter? THANKS A LOT if anyone is kind enough to weigh them (I mean actual weight, not the number on HP website) Would be helpful if you can post your specs together with the weight you got.

Gentlemen,I ordered Oct 14th but, I recieved my dv6t CTO today, Wed, Oct. 27thI wasn't expecting to see it until this friday the 29th as my email confirmed. However I,m typing on it right now! I must say the track pad buttons left and right are hard to push and pain to use!! fortunatly I use a wireless mouse and don't need it much. The webcam is great, much better then any I've seen, colors are natural, audio recording in a webcam is sensitive, and speakers are load enough too! finger print reader works well, screen is very bright and clear with HD. Nice to have 4 USB ports also, but hold on to your hats guys..............I installed speedfan 4.41 and all temperatures are way below 100 degrees fahrenheit

    core 1 70F

I've had mine for a few months, and I used to read this thread quite often. What have people been getting for temperatures when gaming? Mine have always been fairly high, but lately theyve been reaching 90-95 degrees celcius. Anyone else's temperatures reach this high?

Also, on a side note. What would be a good thing to use to elevate the back of the laptop? I only have a 6 cell battery, so the elevation is minimal.

This happened to me when I sent my cellphone to my local cellphone store 4 repair. Her "guy" said that I "had taken the phone apart, and even installed new 'chips' into it, and even got water inside it--thats why I broke it and why it needs repair." They wanted to charge me like 250 for it--twice what I had actually paid 4 the phone...so I was like--screw it, and just ditched them. Funny thing, cuz less than a year later, that dirtbag lady's store went outta business.

I wouldnt pay them mang. See if you can have it shipped back to you, and go find a mom n pop shop to fix it, or just sell the parts. If ya cant, then you might want to threaten to call BBB.

I just propped up the back of my laptop with a pen laying down. It has a sturdy grip and wont roll. My only concern is that its right under the battery. Is this bad?

Don't be a fool. Get a textbook, or set the entire laptop on top of a plastic hanger...like this kind: http://images.bedbathandbeyond.com/assets/product_images/380/11724716685666P.JPG If you're worried about heat and truly want a cooler, then buy one. I suggest Thermaltake 23T for $30 at Frys.

I stopped using the pen pretty quickly. Right now I've been using the case for a game. It props it up about an inch total. I've got it so it doesnt block any fans and rests on the back part about an inch in. Works fairly well so far.

Okay, this is just absurd. I ordered mine on Sept 29th, and mine won't be arriving till tomorrow. They gave me a $50 coupon for the first delay and a 10% discount for the second, but if people are ordering theres on Oct 14th and getting it today something is horribly wrong.

touchpad is worthless! I was trying to turn it off at the upper left hand corner, somewhere I read you have to hold your finger on that spot for 2 seconds to turn off or on. This did not work! I've upgraded the software for it and now it says to double click that area, now it works. Thought for awhile it was defective.. New software drivers are on HP site, Synaptics TouchPad Driver

    Try running HP update first.

Or you are going run into most of the problems pretty quickly.

    Hello guys/gals,

I've been looking at purchasing this machine. I can't find many other deals to compare with it at it's price-point. If anyone knows of anything, perhaps the Sager 5125, but spec-for-spec, the HP still wins, besides the USB 3 port.

Also, I think this is a rather good deal, but curious if better ones are expected to show up anytime soon:

    $810.74 after taxes FS
    * Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    * Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-460M Dual Core Processor (2.53 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz
    * 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI, VGA] - For Dual Core Processors
    * FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    * 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 5.25 hours of battery life
    * 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    * No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
    * SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    * Intel Wireless-N Card
    * Standard Keyboard
    * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

Also, I've read a lot of reviews complaining about the mousepad...are they not updating the drivers? Or is a chronically DOA?
What about the heat, I've read mixed reviews there...makes me wonder if they set it on their lap and block the fan intakes/outtakes?
Keyboard, does the standard keyboard come with a 10-key numpad? That would be handy if it does.

    Thanks.

Regarding the heat- I have my laptop propped with the extended battery, I was playing left for dead 2 for maybe an hour today and my GPU got to 100 degrees Celsius. I consider that bordering the overheating threshold and there is no reason for it.

Keyboard does not come with a numpad.

Doesn't sound good... the temperatures for my DV6 when under a full stress test (Intel Burn Test + FurMark with everything maxed out on both for an hour straight) max out at 91*C for the CPU and 73*C for the GPU... did you try cleaning the fan vents?

Ouch. You should call HP about that. MY GPU has never gone above 80C (during FurMark one time when I forgot to prop the back up), and even then it maxes out at 72C when playing Left 4 Dead 2 for a few hours. (I wish I could say the same of my 93C CPU. :/)

Yeah, that sounds more like it.

JakeJ, and anyone, if your CPU is eclipsing 90 C on anything but a stress test, either you got a bunch of crap in there, or something is wrong with the cooling.

Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to send this in, and I doubt that they would do anything. Any ideas?

Screw it. I'm going to have to try a clean install. Ugh. I have no clue how I'm going to get the fingerprint reader working after this, and it'll take days to download my games again.

Nope my laptop is bone stock, well..as stock as it came! I don't necessarily have any problems..I just had HWmonitor open while playing LFD2 and noticed GPU spiked at 100 C and CPU at ~90.

    I have the following specs:

    Core i5 450m
    6Gb RAM
    160 GB SSD
    1gb Radeon 5650

I should also mention that only one of the cores gives a 93C reading while the other gives 83C. I've been assuming that the lower rating is inaccurate, but now I think it's due to poor contact with the heatsink. *sigh* Never risking it with HP again.

Yeah, I have to say, I bought this instead of the MSI GX640, and if I knew I were going to get temps this high, I would have waited for the MSI! At least those temps are garnered from higher powered components, and the warranty is 3 years!

That's some scary stuff. My gpu has never gone above 65*c and that's from playing bad company 2 for more than 4 hours at a time. Although my cpu does get hot, it's under the thresh hold so I'm good. Going to be moving up to a 580m when I get some money in my pocket -_-.

My record low temp on this laptop is 17*c.

not sure why it got to 100 C the other time but not now..but thats still damn hot.

My roommate in college did this for his Thinkpad T61. It raises the entire notebook up, and has space underneath, so no worry of blocking vents, or missing any vents which need circulation. Not a bad idea, only thing is if you slide the entire thing, the comp might fall off lolz.

Personally, I use a Scrabble boardgame box when using the comp in bed. So a textbook would work fine on the desk.

ok so i have been jumping around pages on this thread trying to find some exact answers....

i just received my dv6tse yesterday and have been playing around with it. I am upgrading from a 5 yr old dv6 hp with xp..1.2 ghz dual core processor, 2 gb ram....

there are some things that are really bothering me..

-this laptop takes over 3 minutes to boot...(i timed it after i noticed how long it was taking)

    -it also gets very hot.

-I have no clue where my hp quick web is, i looked and looked for the program and was told that it is a standard feature that comes on the dv6 by the hp rep. I have also noticed many of you talking about it, so it has to be on here somewhere.

-this laptop also takes a very long time to connect to my wireless internet. it just sits there spinning and spinning then finally connects.

-i cant find anyway to access the webcam

-the computer also takes a long time to start up the web, open a program etc.

There is no reason that side by side my xp laptop thats inferior in every way should be doing things faster (by a big margin) than this laptop.

the basic specs for my laptop are:

    core i5, 6gb ram, 640 gb hdd

any tips or help would be greatly appreciated, if this is what the laptop is gonna perform like than it is definitely getting returned and i will be thoroughly dissapointed that my old laptop blew away the new one.

Yeah clicking the picture should make it bigger for you to see. As HWmonitor shows, my idle temps aren't the lowest either. This computer is super erratic. Right now my temps are fine, hovering in the 40's after booting up and using firefox a bit.

This does not bode well for my purchasing prospects. However...if I do get one, the FIRST thing I'm doing is a clean install from scratch. The second thing I'm doing is loading up drivers. Third thing I'm doing is installing all my programs with Ninite.

3 minutes boot time is crap. No reason this laptop shouldn't boot w/in 30-45s unless it has some major bloatware. Also, have you mapped any network drives? That will increase boottime substantially.

I'm starting to get worried about this heat thing.

Curious, have you tried undervolting? Might be able to drop those idle temps to 50ish.

I've been reading this thread on how some are very concerned about heat and rightly so. However, that being said, these high speed compact laptops with the present technology of today are a balence between cost and profit, in other words "you get what you pay for". These computers require assisted cooling, they are called laptop computers, but in the real world, putting them on one's lap causes them to overheat, without a laptop cooler under them. I never operate my DV6T SE or any other laptop for that matter, without a cooler wheather or not I'm playing games. It should be fine for normal use without any cooler, such as using it outside of your home area maybe on battery for normal use. I'm sure there are exceptions to every rule, but in general I believe holds true.

I hear what you are saying, but I paid 1100 dollars for this laptop. That is a lot of money for a computer and it shouldn't have heating issues. I never use this laptop without it being on a hard surface and with proper cooling, and in the end it just comes down to manufacturer cooling issues. It would be different if I was using this on my bed in the middle of a Texas summer, but I'm using it in a cold as hell Michigan fall, lol. The fact that a cooler is necessary is ridiculous but does hold true for some laptops.

I'm using a cooler under mine as usual right now, however I don't have the fans running on the cooler, as it's enough to keep it cool for casual browsing.
If I need extra cooling I'll turn on the fans. I'm wondering if some of the Dv6t SE's do get overly hot? Do you think this might be a manufacturing defect or problem their not addressing? The i7's more then likely do get warmer, depending on their configuration? Mine has a duel processor i5 580M. so maybe that's why I haven't had heat problems I'm looking at the temperatures right now, as follows........I like extra insurance and that's what the cooler supplys..
    HDO: 39C
    Temp1: 45C
    Core0: 23C
    Core 1: 24C
    Core 2: 18C
    Core 3: 17C

Right now my temps are as follows:

    GPU-57 C
    Core 0-56 C
    Core 1-51 C

That's with having Firefox open along with MS word.

I think that HP has poor quality control and that's an underlying problem here. Some people claim to have temps like yours even without a cooler while some have them like me. Was thermal paste applied correctly? Do the fans all work when they are suppose to? Bad design?

    Who knows.

Btw, what cooler do you use?

The cooler is a Targus model AWES 55US-50 I picked it up at Best Buy I believe or Sam's Club, can't remember rightly? Anyway it has two USB fans that plug into a computer port if thats needed. Has a nice slant, and is covered with a flelt covering which seems to be none slip. Oh by the way I was looking for the model # on the outside but didn't locate it until I looked between the top and bottom on the side. The packaging probably has it on but of course that's history. It's very lite, weights maybe 1 lb. if that!

I started to use a game case that elevates the back of the laptop up about an inch roughly. I set it up so it only rests on the battery and doesn't block any fans. This has been working quite well. My temps have dropped almost 10 C when gaming with this.

Looking forward to the new video, post it! I would like to see what you mean by 'sadness' with the laptop...

There seems to be something wrong with your laptop, because I don't have those issues (except heat to an extent, though I'm not having trouble with idle temps at all). You need to try a clean install, and if that doesn't work, you have a lemon. Even though I didn't clean install, mine boots in 40-50 seconds (plus another 5-10 to get to the desktop, which is fully usable within 5-10 seconds due to Windows Live Messenger loading, so 50-70 seconds total). If you have have a 5400RPM drive, that partially explains why your times are slower than mine, but not to that extent. And I connect to my router in less than a second...

QuickWeb is a pretty useless feature, imo. I got rid of that right away. Anyway, Windows search should lead you to those programs. If it's not, I don't have a clue what's going on.

I think the first thing you should do is a stress test, personally. That way you'll at least know if the heatsink is making proper contact with the CPU and GPU.

I think you should use another temp monitor. It shouldn't give four readings when there are only two physical cores.

    It came with sound?? j/k

Hmm try plugging in a headphone and see if you could hear from it since it was a factory install. They can't really miss something in the software side of things since its a image copy.

    Oh what the heck
Here is the driver for it
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49432.exe
