Where is the folder? It's SOO weird. The gadgets are still there but they are distorted. I don't know what to do.

    Hi!

does any one know the difference between dv6t 3000 series and 3100 series? all specs and prices are almost the same.

besides, is there any review for these series available on web? i spent a lot time googling in vein.

Maybe you can get the heatsink yourself? The way he did it, if you were careful, I don't think you could screw anything up. The replacing was pretty straight forward. He cleaned off the old thermal paste, put a drop of a new one. Put the heatsink on and 25 degrees celcius off straight away =/

I was thinking the same thing, but if I screw it up, I'm screwed. :/

It's so stupid. This heat problem is a factory defect, so they are supposed to cover it. But I just KNOW that even if they agree to fix it when I call them, they'll tell me that I have to pay them some ridiculous amount when it gets there with some bull they made up.

Actually, I think that any company would try to pull that scam. OEMs wouldn't even offer warranties if they could avoid it.

Curious, what did you have to do to get them to replace it? How long was the return wait?

I have on-site support. I didn't really do much =/ I called their customer care, said temperatures are too high. They said they want me to drop it off to their center cause quote, "heating issues take time to diagnose." I said you I paid for on-site! They directly sent an engineer with the part to my house next week and he replaced it. He didn't really check too much. He said is it heating still? I said yes. He said ok and replaced.

Haha I can't believe they tried to pull that crap on you, at least you told them though.

I would try and get them to replace mine, but they would probably say my temperatures aren't critical so there is no need. Plus, without on-site, I would probably be without a computer for weeks.

Open the program called "HP MediaSmart Webcam" then it should be fairly simple to indicate how and where to play around with the various functions.

    I have visited various websites
with various degrees of dark & bright backgrounds
    and different font sizes.

    I've ran numerous applications and
visited this website to check for LCD problems.

    LCD monitor test images

I haven't seen the aforementioned pixel fuzz.

I'd surely like to see the pixel fuzz, since I still have
    3 weeks for an exchange/return, no-restocking fee at J&R.

If the pixel fuzz is a common occurrence, I'll be glad to return
the DV6. Since I'm still deciding on which to keep,
the Acer 4820TG or the DV6.

I'd like to reiterate the LCD on this particular DV6
    is an LGD02AC.

Sometimes I get pixel fuzz when using the IGP and reading dark text on a white background at a low brightness. Shrugs.

It is noticeable on the dark background between the red borders.
This is a pretty good example of the pixel fuzz.

Funny, I just noticed that my intel hd looks alot better than my 5650.
Then again I got less issues with intel hd.

    I tried the link.

I stared and analyzed the website, at minimum to maximum brightness,
    with the Power-Saving & High-performance GPU.

I only noticed the jagged lines, on the white lines, at the
bottom corners of "Home" and the corner of "Register".

I'll look longer for any irregularities.

    Thank you for your help.

Just a note, I was able to upgrade my graphics driver right over the old ones with zero issues, and my problem with some programs not running on GMA HD was fixed as well. This is great, since it means that I can run on GMA HD and get much lower temps.

    Hi,
My control key recently became very lose, and when I took a closer look, it turned out that the small plastic hinge beneath the key had broken. Does any one here have any advise where I can order a new hinge. I tried to contact hp, but they refused to send me the part, or in their words "We don't carry them" . All they offered to do was to let me send it in under warranty, but I need it for school work. I have looked at laptopkey.com, but I have not been able to find the appropriate part on their site. If any one could help me find a replacement hinge, it would be greatly appreciated.

What the hell is wrong with this awfully hot palm rest ??
I play CoD-BO the cpu runs at 101C sometimes and the palm rest is just warm, than I play NFS-HP and the temps are around the 80s and the palm rest is hot like a toaster
Now I see why HP are cheaper than everyone else. My grandmother could be a better designer than them.

I think I'm gonna downgrade to the previous version of the BIOS...

Who's they? HP? Well your CPU at 70 on NFS is incredible, but the connection between the CPU and the hot palm rest is pretty strange :S Sometimes the palm rest gets very hot and sometimes it doesn't even though the CPU runs at 90-100 :S I'm confused

Was your laptop under warranty? How did you get them to change it? Was it your laptop particularly that had a problem or they are admitting that their cooling system is crap and have some new solution for all the computers already sold?

    Thank you

EDIT: Just to let you know, my system is: i5-450m, ATI5650, 160GB SSD, 6GB Ram, touchscreen, back-lit keyboard, 6 cell battery...

From what I saw, the thermal paste was awkwardly applied, the new heat sink was pretty much 100% like the old one. But, he spent a lot of time making sure the old paste was off(there was more than necessary of it) and he put one tiny dot instead.

Yes, it was under warranty and I called em up saying its shutting down(it wasnt but it could xD). They sent the engineer and he replaced it.

My parm rest gets only a little warm. My little I mean that I won't be able to tell the difference unless I wasn't thinking of it consciously.

My guess is that it is the problem with how the stock paste must have been applied. Could be the heat sink otherwise

    Hi everybody,

First post. I just ordered the below computer a few days ago. I paid $946 after taxes by using the $400 off coupon. I'm having a bit of buyers remorse since I just found the PassMark benchmarks. I'm wondering if I should have gotten the I7-720QM processor instead of the I5-560M. As an everyday user did I make a bad choice with the I5?

HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition customizable Notebook PC

No, you made the right choice. You'll get much better battery life with the i5, and unless you do something that can actually use a quad core fully, the i5 performs as well or faster. Don't let a benchmark decide your purchase, since such benchmarks are completely irrelevant to the experience of an everyday user.

I've been annoyed at the fact there is no way to tell what the sound level is. If you are bored with the tiny Windows volume notification icon in the notification area, here is a fancy tool that you will love for sure. 3RVX is a skinnable volume notification/control application for Windows 7. You can tweak where on the screen the on screen volume display will appear and even what screen if you have multiple monitors. If you don't have a multimedia keyboard you can also tweak the keyboard shortcuts that control increasing and decreasing volume, muting, and other multimedia functions.
It's all over the internet just google 3RVX! I have it running and it works great!

You can always purchase the keyboard on the HP Parts website by entering it's part code, if you want it I can find it for you, but it's around 90 odd dollars and is debatable whether the price is worth it.

I posted a fix for this. Basically there's a metal rod that goes through a metal key hole underneath the key. Apply some grease to the rods and depress the key a couple times to get the grease spread out. My keys haven't squeaked forever now.

Hi, I was looking in the HP site the drivers for this laptop and i noticed they have 2 se models, dv6t-3000 and dv6t-3100. Can anyone tell me what's the difference between them?
    Thanks and good day.

$400 off? There a coupon code? Looked at the deals forum, and didn't see anything.

Did google search, and found $100 coupon code, and then there is $200 off from HP. But I didn't see $400?

    Thanks for the help.

    Awesome thank you.

Actually the coupon codes from TechExxpert are not working. Even tried bumping up the base price past $1400 and it still isn't working. :(
