What exactly does Int'l shipment release mean? I ordered my laptop not too long ago and it's in Anchorage, AK ; Int'l shipment release. Have no idea what that means... Anyone care to explain?

Should have ordered my laptop a week later and get 8 GB ram instead of 6 GB T_T.

I got a dv6 touch screen and like it but I wonder why they don't make the screen convertible to a tablet like the 12" HP touchsmart tablet?

That'd be much easier to use the dv6 touchsmart. With the instant boot for email/web surfing, who needs an ipad?

This feature would capture the best of both worlds.

The Ipad can connect to WPAx-E TKIP/AES :p while the quickweb can't.

Also, quickweb wireless setting for WPAx-AES/PSK, is very inconvenient to those with long random passkeys.

About the touchscreen table switch, I think the reason why don't offer is pricing, product overlap, and not portable as a tablet pc either. :)

Nothing important. They're the same thing, basically, and should use the exact same drivers. The 3100 just has some newer CPUs.

Anyone else noticed the top left corner of the keyboard lifting up a bit? You don't notice it unless you look at the laptop on its side and it's easy to push it back down, so it's not annoying, just .. odd

That's a dual core processor. It looks like there are four cores in the Task Manager only because of hyperthreading.

Why do you need to know the model of the motherboard?

im looking to switch my processor from i3 350 to i3 540 , i was wondering if the motherboard would allow me, or the laptop in all would be compatible for the i3 540, but the problem with i3 540 is that its dual not quad

First of all, they are both dual-core processors. Second, you can't put a desktop CPU into a notebook that uses mobile CPUs, such as your i3-350 M. Your only upgrade options are other mobile i3 or i5 CPUs (which have an "M" at the end).

The first question would be whether or not you even need to. What do you use your notebook for, and why do you want to upgrade your CPU?

The graphics card is what matters for gaming. Upgrading the CPU rarely makes a difference. You could upgrade to the i3-370M or i3-380M, but you won't notice much of a boost in most games. If you REALLY want to upgrade, stick to one of those two.

You won't really have a better gaming experience with a better processor. The graphics card is the main part to gaming, if you upgrade your processor, you'll only get maybe 2 or 3 more FPS in game.

The tm2t is only better if you need tablet functionality. Otherwise, the dv6t is probably better (not to mention an infinitely better deal).

I know Im stuck my tm2t came today might return that cause the dv6 for 570 is nice I think its faster than a 470um and better card than the 5450, but don't know by much, I dont need the tablet but its cool, I am worried the dv6 screen quailty and the size is it a tank. Also do u guys like yours.

A tank? lol. Hardly. It's very thin and light for a 15.6 inch laptop. If you call the dv6 a tank, I wonder what you think of the m15x. :p

The graphics card is more than twice as fast. It's no contest in that department. The CPU is faster too, but you won't notice that in everyday tasks. However, it seems that you prefer ultraportable sizes in notebooks, so the dv6 might not be for you.

I normally perfer small notebooks, I have never fealt a dv6 I am just wondering if u think its heavy, but Yea I love small computers but the gpu being better is really nice for sc2. Also is the 370m better than the 470um cause one is a i5. Also are u happy with yours.

The 470UM is a ULV processor, so even though it's an i5 it's behind standard voltage i3s in terms of performance. So, the 370M is faster.

Personally, I don't find it heavy, but we might have different opinions on what we consider heavy. I've seen people call four-pound laptops heavy.

I'm happy with mine, other than the heat, but that's a problem with QC, not a design flaw.

The dv6 weighs roughly around 5-6lbs. It could probably run sc2 on high with no problem. Any i5 is better than an i3 IMO .

No, no, no. Please don't confuse him. :/ The "UM" processors all have lower clock speeds than the ones that are just "M." the only advantage the i5-470UM has over the i3-370M is that the 470UM uses less power.

And the dv6tse is listed at 5.5 lbs.

Oh my bad. I thought he said 470M :( . I really don't think 1.33 GHz is useful and 1.8 GHz for turbo boost isn't that great either. I take back what I said, get the i3 :p

New forum member here. Great forum BTW.
I am looking at the DV6 as my next purchase and was wondering if the model on newegg.com (DV6-3052NR ) had backlit keys. It has the fingerprint reader. The finish looks like the select edition. Price seems great for what you get too.

TIA for any help with this

I would perhaps send an email to laptop-keys and see if they can help you out. Would not hurt.

Edit: I did more research at Laptop-keys and I'm pretty sure that they send you the white hinge thing in addition to every key that you order. When you select the keys you want to purchase it shows a pic of what comes with...and it shows the white hinge.

    http://www.laptop-keys.com/Add_to_cart.php?make=HP&model=DV6_(flat-black)&partnumber=H5B

The pic is shown of what is included if you scroll down a little bit.

I did not spend too much time looking but I could only find keys for older dv6 models (that seem to use the same white hinges).

It's not that heavy to be configured as a tablet, as it would be in your lap most of the time anyway.

I wish they'd set up the screen to convert to a tablet like the tmt2. That would make the touch screen much more usable especially w/ the quick boot web surfing/email/calendar/multimedia. That would erase any thought of having an ipad. Full featured laptop w/ quick convenient touch screen tablet browsing is the best of both worlds.

I posted before that intel 6300 and 6200 will not work on the dv6 3000 especially on the F13 version.

But a 6250 does work with no wimax unless your motherboard has a wimax passthrough. There are some models that have it.

I tried to modify the bios but that project seems to go no where due to the worst documentation I ever seen so far.
The more I read it, the more confident I am that not possible due to radical differences in our version of bios.
Also, I'm not very well equipped or well educated in low level design to figure it out on my own.
