I have a sony vaio laptop and have removed the screen bezel to access/remove the screen itself when i needed to repair the inverter, which was easy, but my concern with this laptop is, i have the touchscreen, and i dont see any screws on the screen as there is no bezel (touchscreen is edge to edge). does anyone know how i would access the screen?

hp are sending me out a replacement, but its the black model, which ive heard is all plastic. anyone got one of these, and how good are they? i might have to just give up on the dv6 if this doesnt work out :/

When you say "overheating," do you mean that it was actually shutting down from heat?

And why are they sending you the standard model? That makes me worried that the SE is about to be discontinued...

sorry to hear about tht. can you tell what were ur notebook specs? and what were the temperature ranges?

secondly u should not agree on the non-SE DV6, as a replacement! specially the black model, looks ugly & cheap. if they dont have SE in stock u should better insisit on replacement of cooling system (in my opinion)

I think the guy who commented on Newegg who claimed about overclocking the AMD N930 processor has the internet alias "emaildejan", going to try and contact him ask how he did it.

Hmm, the dv6t should be getting a refresh, it think in the 2nd quarter of next year with the newer amd 6000 series.

Hello fellow dv6t SE owners, this is a question out to those who's played Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas. I'm having a serious problem with lag. Now, don't you jump to conclusions of telling me, lower resolutions, settings, turn down/off anti-aliasing, etc. I've tried ALL. Whenever I'm inside a building/structure with lights coming through from outside, framerate drops significantly. Any useful help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Just another quick question...

Does anyone use hp support assistant?
I used it to download and install updates (BIOS, graphics card etc.), and when it got to installing the latest graphics driver the screen went black (the laptop was still running however).

After putting it to sleep it seems fine again. Anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried?

The game is known to have a looot of issues, but I've only come across a crash or two. The dv6tse with a 5650 should be able to handle the game on almost all high settings.

Did you install the official AMD graphics driver? If so, that's why. It doesn't support switchable graphics.

He couldn't be able to install the official AMD driver, as it outright rejects our model.

As for the Cat 10.11, not much better than HP Cat 10.10 when I was testing it on my dv6. Just too bad, it's not worth the lost conveniences HP provided on theirs or worth upgrading at the moment.

Just simply reinstall the HP amd driver.

Next time, keep track of the last event program installed or update. It would surely help debugging and track down cause.

Hello Everyone. I am now a proud owner of dv6t SE :D . Very powerful laptop!! i like it so far! i wanted to ask if anyone here knows a site where I can buy a hard shell case for this laptop. I saw one on amazon but it is only for the laptops before May as HP changed the model.

Thank you very much. I look forward to talking to other proud owners in this thread :)

From what I can tell, most people just chose the 160GB SSD option when they configured it. It's apparently a good deal.

Is it worth buying a laptop cooling pad if my average temps are around 30 deg. cel. ?

No. That's excellent for idle temps. There's no danger with that temp at all, and it's rare to find a full-power notebook with lower temps than that.

yeah, but if i got a cooler, it may keep temps even lower and then help my chances of the hardware lasting longer, you think?

As long it's not below the dew point.

You need to do a maintenance to the laptop if you want to last longer.
Clean out fans, wipe down the laptop ...etc

Falco pretty much hit the nail on the head. A cooler won't help it last any longer if the heat isn't an issue in the first place. The only thing it might do is blow more dust into the laptop, and that's not going to help at all. You shouldn't ever need a cooler to reduce idle temps. If your idle temps are too high, you should get it replaced (or repaired, if you're past the return period). Again, however, your temps are great.

I like it. its cheap and I actually will probably by more for my other laptops. I find it useful when i go to coffee shops and I have to eat(hate dirty keyboards!) in front of my computer and keeps it clean and easy to wipe down if needed. I dont like how it sticks because its held down by small strips of sticky pads. It wont ruin anything im just being shallow. normally i have a bluetooth keyboard at home but being mobile i keep bluetooth off for the battery life.

Either when if the laptop starts running hot after the end of the warranty period, if it runs a little hot sending it in for warranty repair is too inconvenient, if your temps while doing something intensive like gaming are too high, or if you do such demanding tasks for extended periods. With temps like yours, a cooler is just a waste of money except as a safety precaution when gaming (or any other demanding task) for a few hours straight.

That said, a cooler won't really hurt, but it's totally pointless at such temps. It won't extend your laptop's life because nothing is being damaged by that relatively small amount of heat.

Ok so I need a little help with my temperature problems. This last week I've been noticing some extreme performance issues. This afternoon I noticed the bottom left corner of my laptops keyboard getting extremely warm. I downloaded speedfan and found my computer appeared to be running at 95C.

I panicked, grabbed an old cooling fan from my obsolete laptop. Dropped the power settings to power saver and cooled the room a bit.

    It's still idling at 60C!

I could kick myself right now, I remember thinking to myself a week ago that the laptops fans seemed awfully loud.

I have an ATI 5650 and an i7 1.6 so I wouldn't be surprised if it was running a little hot, but 60C idle on the lowest power settings is still BAD.

My first plan of action is to grab a can of air tomorrow and have at the little vent on the side.

My worry is could damage have already been done? the laptop is still covered by warranty as I only got it this summer but how would i know if something has been damaged and then how do i prove that to HP?

(also any suggestions for cooling my laptop would be awesome)

    Thanks!

You got those temps with SpeedFan? Try HWMonitor, and tell the individual temps for the CPU and GPU. (SpeedFan reports temps incorrectly, but it usually reports temps that are lower than the actual temps.)

The performance issues probably mean throttling. As for what to do, I doubt that your problem is a dirty vent unless you usually use it in a dusty area. Have you been playing in a hotter room lately? If so, then it's possible that your laptop had an issue right out of the box, but you were using it in a cooler or air-conditioned room, thus covering up the issue. Either way, HP knows that they're lazy with cooling, so you don't have to prove anything. The real issue is the fact that you can expect to be without a laptop for about a month, possibly more. If you bought the at-home warranty, however, they'll send someone over who will probably change the fan and thermal paste, which should fix the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply. Now that winter has rolled around the heater is usually always going in my room and I actually have my desk directly under the vent but at the moment I'm typing this I'm out of town in a well vented area. Room temperature is 22C

I have old laptops lying around so being without one for a month or so isn't really that big of a deal. The last time I had to send a laptop in though was an awful experience and it came back beat up and worse off than when i sent it in and they replaced a burnt out graphics card with a lesser one. It was also a dell. Is HP more reliable?

Attached is a snap shot of my temperatures. The only thing I have running is firefox and I have a cooling fan under my laptop and it's on power saver.

When it was bumped up to high performance and was running a game the entire system became choppy and unusable, the temperature rises and seems to cap at 95 (and don't worry, I'm not playing around and risking burning anything anymore, this was when i noticed it first happening.) So yeah. It sounds like throttling.

I still plan on getting that can of air though in a few minutes.

Well, I can't answer the question of how reliable HP is, but I can say that your temps are a bit high. If you know someone who is comfortable and experienced with working on laptops, you could ask them to open it up and change the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU.

This laptop is a perfect example of why a laptop with a dedicated graphics card should have two fans. :/

Well, I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but I got my dv6t SE yesterday and I must say that it runs really hot. The fan is constantly blowing and the left side is almost too hot to touch while basically idle. On the upside, the damn thing is amazing to look at and the screen (despite the low resolution) is really crisp and vibrant. I know others hate the touchpad, but I really like it.

I get weird graphical glitches in many games--but only when I'm using the ATI card rather than the Intel chip. I've reinstalled the drivers already, but the issues persist. What should I do?

This is a common issue with AMD drivers which happens to occur most often on direct update instead doing a clean install.

Do a clean wipe of all AMD graphic drivers by uninstall, then manual wipe or driver sweeper. And Then install the AMD Driver.

Hmm, I seem to be having issues with my touchscreen, which started after I decided today to install "Wacom - Input - Wacom Gesture Touch" through Windows Update. Basically, if I wait for some period of time after tapping the touch screen, I end up having to continually tap (or doing a tap-and-hold) the screen in order to get it to recognize another tap. Is anyone else having this issue (and, if so, where can I find an old version of the driver? HP's website doesn't include anything about multitouch drivers for the dv6tse) ?
