-
i got hp dv6 3000 with i3 350 processor, and ati mobility gfx card, i keep getting blue screen, anyone having same problem?
-
If anyone has a bluray dv6; can you please do me a favour and watch a bluray movie connected on your tv via hdmi and tell me how it goes. I want to how well the output of the 5650 is with bluray content. THANKS.
-
The query is very broad...They wouldn't offer the blueray upgrade if they don't play well at all
In my opinion, it looks and sounds the same to me on 720/1080 content connected on HDMI whether on Intel GMA X3100 or 4500HD or on AMD 5650 mobility. -
-
Well, on the dv6 screen is not that great on the 5650 but on the 4500HD looks much sharper and cleaner. Just too bad, the screen and resolution is gimping it.
On the external monitor, there are no differences.
The standalone is in the sense, are much simpler to use and setup without worry except for age.
Guaranteed to run smoothly. -

Hey there, I have been lurking these threads and finally decided to buy a dv6t se. I am not sure if these questions belongs here, I am a n00b. I was happy for the first week of buying the laptop but now the laptop has strange issues with respect to touchscreen and booting. The touch screen randomly stops working and when it works sometimes press hold for right click doesn't work. More concerns followed when I restarted the laptop a week in, it got stuck on the hp logo while booting. I extracted a boot file from another forum and put it on a flash drive and stuck it in, then I restarted the lappy while holding windows key and B. Then I again restarted and the laptop booted up normally again. Does anyone know about these issues or should I just exchange this? How is HP about exchanges?

Hi! This lounge is great - I've been thru almost all of the 450+ pages (NOT ALL AT ONCE!). So I figured I'd add a few random things, I guess...
1. Ordered a DV6T SE (i5, 6GB RAM, no GPU), this week on Dec 13 and it's scheduled to ship Dec 21. So far, it's still in production. Hopefully it will actually ship on or before the 21st. I'm not sure what to think since the holidays could cause some delays but I hope not!
2. Planning on clean installing for two reasons - one, I'll be using a different hard drive in it and two, it's always a personal preference to clean install. The hard drive it comes with is HUGE and I don't need the space (I primarily use external storage and portable apps). Also I have a handful of smaller drives, all the same size, which will be ideal for cloning, etc. So the original big hard drive will be used by someone else. I don't anticipate having a problem finding drivers, etc., for the clean install.
3. From what I've googled, there doesn't seem to be a way to make the vertical Windows scroll bar appear on the left - unless the touch software can do that? I've made the change in Firefox, but it'd be great if any scrollbar, Windows, etc. could be on the left.
4. Since I dont do any gaming or CAD and since I value battery life, I opted to try going without a GPU & just using the Intel HD Graphics. It seems like I'm a rare case - is anyone else running without a GPU too? Just curious to hear any feedback about it.
5. Would also be interested in hearing about TouchScreen useage. I'm really intruiged by it and anticipate using it alot. Did it change the way you use your laptop for the better? Does it slow you down - or speed you up - or revolutionize the way you do things - or was it really a novelty that wore off? Are there any applications that don't respond to it?
Can't wait to get the thing already! -

Ah
5700 HD = Intel HD
oh well.
IMO, I rather have a standalone since I really don't watch on the go.
It all depends on you. Watch it on the go and at home or at home only. -
Am I limited to only the compatible dv5/dv6/dv7 bluray drive? Or are there bluray drives that could fit as well?
-
2. I have an SSD and I can tell it exceeded my expectations, so I didn't do a clean install since it was (and still is after tons of crap installed) very fast. The boot-up time was around 20 seconds - amazing.
p.s. It's good that you reed this lounge, it can help you finding all the drivers you gonna need in the clean install.
3. N/A
4. Since you don't do any gaming, you should be fine. But, whatever the VGA, expect a very bad display. This laptop has probably the worst display of all the new laptops (including those priced at $300). - No colors, terrible viewing angles (no matter how you adjust the screen, the bottom will be too bright, the top too dark - just terrible)
5.I don't think the touchscreen slows down the laptop, but don't expect miracles of it. Since the laptop cannot be flipped like a tablet, the touchscreen is not too practical. I only use it when I get my laptop in my bed. However, it's good for showing off in front of your friends -
Download that. Chrome now recognizes scrolling on the page with the touchscreen just like internet explorer.
I am running with the intel integrated graphics and counter strike source runs perfect on here. -
I'm not sure about now, but when I bought this laptop, the SSD upgrade was $270. However, those additional $270 where making my laptop eligible for the $250 coupon, so the actual price of the SSD was $270-$200= $70
I wont go further and talk Intel vs OCZ but if you ask me, a 160GB Intel for $70 is better than a 120GB OCZ for $230. -
-
Also , CSS is a pretty old game, so don't expect to play any new game with that VGA, unless you enjoy playing at 5 fps. -
-
Crazy. -

Can anyone compare the i7-720 and the i5-580 in terms of battery life on the laptop?

Hello from a first-time poster. I'm planning to order this dv6tse and would appreciate opinions. I may add a video card later, not a gamer now. No need for touchscreen. Will use for streaming Netflix and other TV shows.

Hi a newbies here,
I just bought the HP Pavilion dv6tse with Core i7-840 processor.
I forgot to create the recovery media. Then i formated the whole notebook and reinstall it with Windows Server 2008 R2.
The installation continue until the last step and show and error saying that the windows not support the current hardware????
Anybody has any idea why this is happening? My windows Server 2008 R2 has successfully install in my other old Dell Latitude E5400. why can't this dv6tse notebook with latest support it?
Any suggestion will be really helpful. -

I just received my custom configured ENVY 14 but think I am going to exchange it for a DV6T SE...
I have a few questions:
1. Can someone who has used both comment on the difference (if any) in build quality?
2. What is the quality difference between Dolby audio and Beats audio
3. Should I get the HP SSD or order an aftermarket SSD? Can I replace the optical drive with an SSD? What are the most popular SSD's people put in the DV6T SE?
4. What kind of battery life should I expect (i5)? How much extra juice would I get from the high capacity battery? -
The beats audio will smash dolby, the sound on this computer isn't very good.
It will be cheaper to get an aftermarket SSD, and also you'll have a wider range to choose from which could allow for a better option.
Can't comment on battery, I've got an i7.

Bump on this; Am I limited to only the compatible dv5/dv6/dv7 bluray drive? Or are there bluray drives that could fit as well? -
What specifications do I need to look for when getting a SSD? What are the more popular choices?
Can I replace the optical drive with the SSD? Are there any threads that might help me with the install/config? -
Yes, usually the optical drive can be replaced with a hard rive, I wouldn't know how to do this though.
Popular SSD's are OZC / Samsung / Intel. -
Also...does installing an aftermarket SSD void warranty?
-
Also out of curiosity what's wrong with your Envy? -
Nothing but the battery life. I did not find this forum until after I received it. I don't really need the power of the i7 and I like the size of the DV6T...
Any idea what kind of battery life I can expect with a DV6T with an i5? -
No, but you have to put back the factory HDD when sending it back for HP repairs.
Anything aftermarket in the consumer access, you need to put back the factory parts before sending it back in for repairs to HP.
You never know they end up replacing aftermarket parts with factory parts. Also, they are not responsible for lost parts that doesn't belong with HP.
The battery for i5 on 9 cell for mine is 4hrs on moderate use. 5 hrs on light use. It been 6 months since purchase. Originally 8+ hrs on light use.
@roasted, you shouldn't be limited certain drives. Just check if it fits. So find a place with a easy return policy. -
@espett: With the 6 cell high capacity battery on integrated graphics, I see about 3.5 hours of battery life.
-
What's a good brand bluray drive to look out for? Or is the Dv6 one good enough? -
Edit: So I fixed it. I had to now change my TV zoom settings to screen to fit in order for it to work. Word. Worked perfect before, with only the 16:9 option. Doesn't bother me at all, as long as my resolutions and screen settings are not messed up at all.
Need some help because after updating my video drivers from the driver thread here on these forums, my display is a little messed up.
I connect my laptop through HDMI to my TV, and previously, it displayed perfectly. The display fit perfectly on the screen. Now after updating, its too big. My TV isn't big enough to fit the entire display.
I can barely see my windows logo for start menu, I can barely see my clock. I can not see my minimize/close buttons in the top right of my windows, and I can not see my file menu drop down on the left.
This is on 1980x1080 resolution. Again, it was perfect before, and now its all messed up. -
I know that the DV6T is able to output to two external monitors (which disables the laptop display)...Will I be able to have the laptop closed for this to work or does it need to stay open?
-
Scale it back... just to the reverse of what you do to scale.
I'm not sure where or what you scaling from?
From TV or from Laptop -
Ya, I just changed my TV settings and its been fine. No worries. Never did figure out a way to change or fix it with computer settings. I had to adjust my TV for it to work.
You can leave the laptop closed btw when you are outputting to the external monitor, and have the laptop shut off. I have a piece of cloth I put in though so it stays open a little bit for venting/cooling. -
Hi guys, for those of you with the i5, how much battery life do you get on a 6 cell?
-
Falco also gives insight into the 9 cells performance. -
Sorry, forgot to check, thanks guys.
I'm only getting about 2 hours max with integrated; battery bar also says that my discharge rate is 35,482 mW. Is this normal? I'm contemplating asking HP for a new battery. -
Should I keep the battery in the laptop if I plan to leave it on overnight?
