You don't ...you just override the bios.
You need to be plugged into AC to update and hope for no power outages.![]()
Hit F10 or ESC and hit F10 to access the bios.

Just got my dv6t-3100 SE today and just a couple questions........
1. My touchsmart page only shows the row of icons on the bottom, none of the large icons/tiles are on my touchsmart homepage at all. Any ideas?
2 Does anyone know if there is a version of bumptop available for download?
Thanks -
2. I have no idea but I want to know, too. -
Your not from Australia then I guess. Hah -
-
Control Panel > Uninstall a program > double-click ATI Catalyst Install Manager > Next > Express Uninstall ALL ATI Software
Do you know how to get into the BIOS? The fan option isn't hard to find. I don't remember the exact path, but if you need me to, I'll check. -
My dv6tse is overheating on a consistent basis. It's currently running at 84 degrees with some light web browsing, iTunes and OneNote running. Word is also open but I'm not using it. I'm using it on a desk so there should be no issues venting. It's gotten progressively worse since I bought it back in August.
The processor is a quad core but the heat seems excessive for the little that I generally use it for. -
I still didnt find anything on Bumptop...... I think google is holding the software to include its properties in Andriod 3.0 -

Gosh just turning on my Wifi, even on powersaver with granola, causes my temperatures to jump up over 10 degrees...from like 40s to 50s. Is this normalish? for an i7 processor.
-
Well, my non SB 6 arrived today....so I guess I am officially a member of the group.
Too bad I'm calling HP tomorrow to send it back.
I turned it on, didn't load up any data or virus scans or nothing (didn't even go online). I just gave it a name and played with the touchscreen....
A couple of notes:
The touchpad sucks. That one piece design blows.
The display is fine (didn't get online), but the screen is like a mirror.
Back-lit keyboard is worth $25....even if I never need it. It looks cool as hell.
Touchscreen is a must if you don't have a mouse. Did I mention the touchpad sucks?
My i5 with 8gbs of ram seemed slower than I would have imagined. I know there is stock bloatware.....but my system has a 7200rpm HDD with NOTHING on it.
I'm not sure why I got the Blu-Ray player. It seems silly to be a computer without one....but I'm pretty sure I will NEVER watch a blu-ray movie in it. I own multiple PS3's, and I've watched a total of 7 Blu-Ray's in 3 years.
If I do go with an SB i7, it is going to be HARD giving up the touchscreen and back-lit keyboard. -

^ I would consider a new dv6 quad...but the price difference is crazy.
Right now the base price for the new 7 is $999 with 6gbs of ram, 750GB 5400RPM HDD, AND the 6570 Graphics Card.
The base price for a new dv6 is $899 for the same ram and HDD, but it costs an additional $100 to upgrade to the Graphics Card.
Basically, both start out at $999 for the same chipset, but the 7 has a larger and higher resolution screen, the abiility to have dual HDD's, Beats Audio, and a 2 year warranty for the same price.
I almost "have" to go with the 7 for the value. -
-
Mine will probably only leave my home 7 or 8 times a year....and will spend a good chunk of time as a desktop replacement....except during sporting events.
I took my 6 to work and played with it for a bit...but I have yet to load anything up. (not even the fingerprint reader). I know it is going back...regardless of what I get next.
I'm really torn...but I think I will end up with the 7. But that touchscreen was cool as hell...(minus the fingerprints). -
-
Is there a software program so I can pan, tilt and zoom my webcam, instead of moving the screen?
-
-
I dont see where the HP Mediasmart pans and tilts....

Hi, does anyone know what's the difference between "Physical Sector Size"
and "Logical Sector Size"? as shown in Intel Rapid Storage Tech.
In my IRST it is showing both of these as "512 Bytes" whereas my C drive's cluster/allocation unit size is "4096 Bytes"!
This is confusing me as to what allocation unit size is appropriate for partitions, if the Physical/Logical Sector size is 512 B??
What is the relation between all these three.......Attached Files:

I did a clean install on my system and I can't get these to work. Which software or driver is responsible for the on-screen display for music volume, mute, brightness etc and the light on the touchpad?
-
I found I had problems playing a blue ray using touchsmart and it only worked correctly when using media player. anyone else have that problem?
Secondly, I am trying to connect dv6 laptop to receiver with HDMI, the video works being passed thru receiver to a projector. But I get no sound. Anyone have some trouble shooting ideas?
my receiver is yamaha rx2600, video works fine being passed through to projector but no audio. -
I think I'm going to buy a ZALMAN NC2000 notebook cooler. My temperatures are just way too high when playing games that arent graphically intense, and even higher when playing games that are. Its very common for temperatures to be in the mid 80s for me, and few games can even peak out to 90.
Is this likely due to bad thermal paste? -
-
EDIT: That particular cooler would not help much at all. The fans don't even hit the laptop's fan vent. -
Is there any way of replacing the internal fan?
-
Any chance you could recommend a cooler then? -
I have the same problem with the fingerprint reader not waking up from sleep mode I also have a wireless track ball that doesn't respond sometimes .
Tech support suggested I reload the driver but that didn't help. The next time they wanted me to run the disk and memory diagnostics there last solution was to reload all the software and start all over again .
I find this solution unacceptable.
anybody got anything else for a fix. -
I have a similar problem but it only happens sometimes when coming out of sleep mode . I tried the driver thing with HP support it reverted to the original problem in about a week. The next time I called they had me run the BIOS diagnostics for Disk Drive and memory it passed. Then they wanted me to reload all the software . I am not happy with there support they are just shotgunning its obvious this is a common problem. I have seen it reported as far back as Windows Vista. I think it has something to do with the bios power control. I have an INtel i5 processor 8 gb mem
-
-
I wonder if that Intel Chip recall has anything to do with this
-
There is an option in BIOS which gives the the option to disable or enable the fan. If I disable that option, will the fan be permanently disabled or will it automatically turn on when the computer needs to be cooled?

In two days, I will officially own a dv6t SE with base configuration ^_^ (That, or dm4t, but probably this).
Are there any problems I should look out for as soon as I open the box/start it up? I'm assuming not, but you can never be too cautious when you're spending $700 >.> -
First of all, you'll want to make sure that the the bottom plate covering the hard drive and RAM is seated properly. If it's not, don't worry; just unscrew it and put it in the right way. Then, you'll want to make sure that the battery is flush. If it's not, it's not a big deal, but I know it bothers some people. Next, you'll want to look at the trackpad. Sometimes, it's not seated properly, and this can lead to usability issues. Granted, you might hate the trackpad even if it is seated properly.
That's about it. Just keep an eye on your CPU and HDD temps and, of course, get rid of the bloatware. A clean install would be a very good idea. -
please delete
-
Bit embarrassed?
-
The trackpad...well, if it's working enough to get me logged in to the computer on my first few runs, that'll be enough. I'll be using a mouse almost exclusively.
As for bloatware, I'll probably do the ol' "search and destroy" method. My first plans include creating a recovery disc (not sure if it comes with it), downloading the newest SPs, getting rid of Norton and co., downloading Firefox, getting AdBlock Plus, downloading Avast, updating drivers, and possibly installing SC2 demo or client with a guest pass for testing. -

Thinking of going with the i5 (for battery life and heat issues) I will use it for movies, some light gaming, and I do run an online business so I will be using it for some of that as well. Basically an all-arounder. Anywho just a few questions for allready dv6tse owners.
How is the touch screen experience? (likes, dislikes... ect) Obviously this is a major selling point on these... also how is the screen quality? I don't mind 1366 x 768 as a resolution.
How heavy is the laptop in general? (Is it a good mid size, not to much of a desktop replacement, not too small either?)
Any other helpfull feedback for someone like me thinking about taking the plunge on one of these is also appreciated! Thanks in advance for your time.

The screen is average. is bright though at max. It's medium-heavy, carry-able though.

Hi, I bought a Pavilion Dv6 3165SS (Spain yesterday)

I have a dv6t SE with the i7 and my computer overheats even when it's doing absolutely nothing. Just now I closed all programs and walked away to make a phone call. When i came back 10 minutes later all the cores were at 80 degrees Celsius. I never do much more than light web browsing and some note taking in one note and it's constantly at 70 degrees.
The computer is always on a hard desk and usually plugged in. It has gotten progressively worst since I got it in September.
Not only does it concern me that my computer is consistently running at 80 degrees but also the fan is annoyingly loud when in the library or in class and it's running full speed for no apparent reason.
Could this be caused by background programs or something? Is there a way to check this.
