Thank you for the quick reply. I understand that this is the general model number, but am looking for the actual product number, which I was told can be found on the bottom of the laptop under the battery. Would you happen to know that number? Thanks.

It should be dv6t-3000 SE (Select Edition) CTO (Customized to Order).

Also, in later revisions, dv6t-3100 SE CTO.

Other than that, is our serial number and product number, that we can't post.

I think searching by using the spare part number indicated in his service and maintenance manual would be much easier.
It contains a complete list of all the parts and their part numbers for the model

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02657339.pdf

Unless I totally misunderstood, I'm suspecting I am.

Can't you just search for the dv6t-3100? If you use the product number, you'll be restricted to CTO models.

I too am thinking of sending it in for repair. When I have my wireless on, my temps can range from 45 to 70, just while idle or web browsing. When the wireless is off, the temps are almost always around 45-50. When gaming however, my temps can still get up to 90, sometimes a bit more.

Those are pretty much normal temps for this laptop. You'd be better off just cleaning the vents.

What would you recommend to clean out the vents?

That, I don't know. I guess the card gets hot.

For the best results, you'd have to disassemble the laptop and then blow the dust out with a can of compressed air. The can must be held upright to avoid getting water in the laptop, and the fan must be held so it doesn't spin and produce static.

I have the exact same problem, with my palm being hot. I usually have to have something in between when I play anything cpu/gpu intensive. It has gotten quite frustrating.

But today I decided to uninstall the CCC and the drivers for my graphics card and saw and instant drop in temperature, from 60C to almost 50C when idle. I think its worth a shot if your laptop becomes way too hot.

I will run a few more tests to see how well it really worked, hopefully it solved most of the heat problems!

Edit: Nevermind, didnt seem to affect much at all

hey all, trying to replace my screen on my 6 month old laptop, dog stepped on it. didnt buy any warranty but for an accident like that im doubting HP will cover under the one year. local repair shop tried to say it was over 400 for screen and labor. sounded way over priced so am thinking of buying screen myself from HP and having Best Buy install. what do u think screen from HP costs-i only have crappy internet on my phone otherwise id check myself. also is BB an ok place to go and how much labor charge u think?

The screen from directly from HP is ~$230, I'm pretty sure you can find one much lower ... there is a site but I can't seem to recall it at the moment. It posted somewhere in this site.

But for $400 with part and labor seems to be right.

As for socks, I think he's only using the Intel IGP, must be the reason why the temp dropped

It's pretty ridiculous that the laptop operates at such a high temperatures. I wonder if HP will consider a recall once all of our CPU's fry.

Anyone found anything to help the left palm area from getting too hot?

Mine seems to always be hotter than usual.

Would thermal tape work or a cleaning out the laptop help at all?

Friday night, my fan got really loud, and sounded very mechanical, not just as if it was spinning faster. I immediately shut down the system and restarted. This fixed the problem, but it still doesn't sound as smooth as before.

The loud sound happened again once after the first time.

Right now the fan is fine, aside from an extremely quiet noise I cant describe, but I know it wasn't there before.

I usually just close my laptop to put it to sleep to stop the problem. The last time I did this however (not very long ago, maybe a few minutes), I happened to touch the left palm rest beside the mouse pad. Upon doing this, I felt a vibration that wasnt there before touching it. Could this possibly mean my hard drive is having issues?

When shutting the system down when the problem is taking place, the last thing I hear is what sounds to be the fan stopping, but it sounds more like the grinding / mechanical sound, but it sounds as if it is running out. This is making it hard for me to tell if it is the fan or the hard drive causing the problem.

Hey guys, so I got crysis 2, and I thought I should update the graphics driver to possibly improve my fps. But it seems the driver on the HP website is really out of date. If I install a driver from somewhere else does that mean I'll lose my switchable gpus? I've got the HD5650.

Not really, it's pretty moot. In my opinion, you lose more features than the gains it offers.

A reason why I ended up with a nvidia switchable solution. Sure, it cost more and slower than current amd offers, but at least I'm not dependent on OEM for drivers for those who are willing to do switchable graphic and long term investment. I'm type of person who spends more on software than hardware since hardware becomes useless without the support of software.
So far, I'm pleased with the nvidia solution so far than the current amd solution.

Plus running in test mode for modded drivers, isn't my idea of stable since I'm constantly exposed to development hardware and software.

I have a question about this laptop.

Seeing how this laptop is either discontinued, or being discontinued. Has anyone found replacement motherboards? I am trying to figure out how to upgrade a friends laptop after he bought this laptop with the intel intergrated graphics system.

Ive tried all 3 drivers listed as well (previous) and its still the same.. How come this is happening...?

So i'm not planning anything shifty but i'm really just curious. I bought the 2 year accidental protection plan thing with my dv6 last year before all the new stuff came out...so what would happen if my computer fell in water or something? Would they replace it with the new model? Anyhow, just wondering, don't act like you guys haven't thought about this before...hahah.

Unfortunately, for in the US, they have spare parts up to 5 years.

If the series is determined completely defective or no spare parts are available, that is when they might give you a new base model.

    Hi there, dudes!

I'm just considering buying the HP Pavilion dv6-3005eq (Europe). This is the aluminum "Argento" model with specs:

    -DISPLAY 15.6" 1366x768 BRIGHTVIEW
-CPU INTEL CORE I5-450M 2.40 GHz
    -RAM 4GB DDR3
-HDD 500 GB SATA 7200 RPM
    -DVD RW SUPERMULTI DL LIGHTSCRIBE
-VIDEO ATI RADEON HD 5470 512MB
    -HP TRUEVISION WEBCAM, CARDREADER
    -FINGERPRINT READER
-WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT
    -BATTERY 6-CELL

Is it a good laptop for a FIRST laptop? I have good desktop for gaming, I'll need the laptop mainly for Internet, School and some Adobe applications like Ps, Ai, Lr, etc. And of course for media (movies).
Should I really get it? (I read about problems like overheating, driver problems etc.)

Yes, it is an excellent choice. The i5 is very quick and handles both school and professional applications with ease. I have owned a few HP systems and the DV6 series is my preferred. I am looking into upgrading the screen to 1080p at this time with some AUO B156HW01 screens I have. I just need to confirm the LVDS cable will work.

Thank you for the quick response, Scott!

I really like the idea of having a half-aluminum body, but I'm really worried about overheating (Particularly on the left of the mouse pad, where the hard drive is located). The aluminum probably keeps the laptop relatively cool, but once it heats up, it probably cools off slowly.

Ah, one more thing - What is the output definition trough HDMI? 720p or 1080p?

Yes, the ALU body is very nice looking and robust. I have no heat issues with the i5-560M I put in my system. The fan is off or on low RPM most of the time and even stress testing it doesn't result in a "hot" palm rest.

By the way, the HP loves the Intel X-25 SSD I put in it and that also helps with any potential heat concerns while providing about 10-15% more battery life.

The HDMI out is good for up to 1080x1920 and follows the HDMI-1.3b standard so it will not offer 3D output (1.4a or later), but it still looks VERY NICE on an external FHD monitor.

    MfG ;)

I have the screen, but have not tried it with the HP yet. So far, I attempted to do it with the Dell Vostro 3500 and it was a no-go due to the LVDS cable not having all the FHD data lines connected and I have yet to find a compatible replacement (short of having the cable custom produced). I suspect the same will apply to the HP DV6T, but I could be wrong (hopefully!).

    Hey guys,
It's been a long time since my last post here. I've been fairly satisfied with my dv6t-se all the way until now. Summer times are coming which means temperatures are rising... Unfortunately, my laptop's left palm rest area is as hot as my car outside (which is exposed to the sun all day).
Has anybody found a solution to this problem? The GPU and CPU temp are OK (both 48 right now) but the left palm rest area is just too hot. I think I've seen a picture of this laptop's motherboard somewhere, and I don't think there was any heat-producing component below my left palm rest area.
Can anyone give me any kind of help about this problem? Please?
My laptop specs are: i5-450m, ATI 5650, 160GB SSD...

Mine gets a little warm there but it's nothing crazy. Was it bad from the beginning?

The beginning was September so it was cold outside. The temps were affordable, I'm not saying good, but just something I could live with. The ambient temp has a great influence on the heat of that area. Right now it's very uncomfortable. I can't even think about playing a game.

Can anyone give me the link with the picture of the motherboard? Can I do something if I open it? What about the thermal paste? Can I add another cooler somehow :S I desperately need to do something about this...

I've been getting the same problems (in terms of heat). Oh, and hello again, back from the dead (with problems)!

For this laptop, what is considered 'over-heating'? I've seen the GPU peak around 80 C on a game such as Minecraft, and this laptop has been having trouble keeping up fps-wise even in games like Minecraft. Is it most likely a heating issue? I'll notice it plays 'meh' for less than a minute, then the frames drop and drop until it is unplayable. It also taxes the CPU to close to 100%. Any help would be appreciated, such a good community here :)
