The DV7-4295us is indeed a last generation computer. Still has the single E-Sata port. No USB3 ports,

As best I can tell. I had purchased a dv7-4290us and got HP's recall notice I received the dv7-4295us replacement about two weeks ago.

What I’ve read is that the system's with defective chipsets had serial numbers below 108 (i.e. CNFnnn) systems with serial numbers above 108 are said to be the revised chipset.

It was a 33% coupon and topped by the 10% delay. I was stupid to ask the RAM discount and first delay discount before the coupon (I originally had a different one) so $65 was defaulted with the 33%. But it was a good deal overall even with the $74 tax.

If I recall it right, someone managed to complain enough to bring the price down of a much better spec laptop to $56x somewhere in the forum.

I thought the 33% off coupon only applies to dv6t and not dv7t, which is what you have. Curious on how you would be able to apply that to your order.

    Howdy everyone!

I probably should have consulted with you all first about my order even before placing my order, but I wanted to make sure the coupon didn't expire. (Stupid decision? Hopefully not.)

Anyhow, I just submitted my order. Not confirmed yet, but here's what I got on a dv6t:

    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i5-2540M (2.6GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz
    • 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • 50% OFF!! One 6-Cell and One 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
    • 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
    • LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support

I also purchased Norton and Microsoft Office because I'm a born-again-PC-er. My Macbook (Late 2006 model) is still hanging in there. Hopefully it'll stick around til...

Looks fine. Most of us got an i7 but the reality is we almost all wont need that much power. Saving a few bucks on the i5 is fine imo.

The upgrades eat up a lot of the savings of buying an SE over a QE. The 2540m is a $100 option. The 6770m is a $125 option. With the QE, you'd get a 2630qm included and pay $25 for the 6770m. You'd also save $20 on the hard drive, for a $220 difference.

From what I'm seeing, your config is worth 1339 before coupons. The base QE is $1150. Throw in 6770m, Office Home, 3 year Norton and two batteries and I get $1369.

At 30% off, your system is $937.
At 33% off, the QE is $917.

I would cancel the SE and order the QE for $20 less in a heartbeat. Make sure the 33% is still good on the QE before you cancel the SE. The only reason I might keep the SE is if you want to use Intel Wireless Display, the i7-2630qm for some reason is not in Intel's list of supported CPUs for WiDi. Oh, and if you register for fatwallet.com, and link to HP.com through fatwallet's cashback link, you'd get 3.6% of that $917 back in a month or two. If you have an American Express business card, charge it to that and get an extra year of warranty and 5% of the after tax total credited to your bill.

lol, wouldn't you know it. Left the house for 30 minutes to take the kids to daycare and get the car inspected. Check the status while waiting for my car and they tried to deliver it at 8:00 am a day early. Oh well, just have to wait until 4:00 pm to pick it up. :)

I was wondering if I should keep the free Norton or instal AVG which is what I use normally. In the past Norton was horrible, but if Maximum PC says their good again I'll give them a try.

Was the rating an overall one? I wonder who ranks best at threat detection.

I've always been happy with Avast. Avast is also free for non-commercial use.

I have cleaned up many co-workers' laptops that have run sluggishly. The switch to Avast from Norton has always greatly improved performance while still offering excellent security.

For Norton Internet Security, I believe in 2009 it was a 9/Kick-As*. I think this month it was a 9.

I maintain a 25 computer business. All with Norton Internet Security.

I use a combination of Avast and Commodo. I know it redundant, but it works well. I have not have any real issue in the recent past. Also note that I do some 'questionable' things and I remain same.

Ok I ordered my dv6t-se on 4/1 and my estimated build date was 4/18. I call them on 4/19 to complain and it it left shanghai today (4/21). People asked me which number I called. Here it is : 1 888 917-8092.

All I had to do was be understanding and tell them that I knew that they had problems with parts coming in from Japan and that stocks were low but that it was unacceptable from hp to take so long to build a computer. I also kinda told them I work for pixar and that I have important 3d rendering to do and that I had a meeting abroad in 1 week lol.

Well after that, the rep was apologetic and said he would immediately move me to the priority list. :)

Put in my order for a dv6tqe on the 18th, yesterday the status was updated to "In Production". Estimated to start shipping on the 10th. 3 weeks seems a little much to wait for a computer to be slapped together in a factory, but I don't mind as long as it works when I get it.

being lazy, I put it into beyond compare, and it has exactly one line missing (and the estimated date)

"Due to the additional delay we would like to offer you a 10% discount off of your custom built computer.
Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this additional delay has caused. We thank you for your patience."

I got that email 19th april. If you call mention the line, make no mention of it not being in there.

    Good luck!

I actually only my 19th of april ship date was delayed cause I called. I still have not received an email. They did however take off the 10% and also credited me back for the 2 day shipping that I paid for. BTW ordered March 23
    DV7tqe 2630 | 6770 | 8GB | 160SSD w/ 500GB 7200rpm| 6cell| bluetooth

My new ship date is May 3rd. Go figure.
To bad I needed the laptop on the 14th of April.
I mean at this point I am at $1014 now with all the credits but still. I'm pretty close to canceling. I just can't seem to find another laptop that is close to this that I like.
