I switched from the driver 12.5 to 12.8 and i'm kinda disappointed, because i noticed some fps drop in few games (up to 10fps; 44->34) with the same old bugs.
Does someone get an noticeable improvement with the 12.9 driver?

I tired 12.8 and noticed the loss in performance as well. Went back to 12.7 beta, which has given me the best performance (3dmark11 & skyrim fps) of any driver up 12.8. I don't plan on updating unless I notice the need to.

I have a very peculiar problem, which I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced. I tried googling it but no dice. I could really use some insight. This is the second time it has happened in a month or so. Im using a dv6-6135dx btw. Here is the problem:

Just out of the blue, computer is idle, just browsing on Chrome, the laptop starts to open up new chrome windows nonstop, to the tune of 100+ windows and counting. Closing all doesn't matter, it just opens up more. Takes up all the resources, bogs down everything, to where I cant even run Microsoft Security Essentials or Malewarebytes. Restarting the computer, doesn't solve anything. New windows open up the moment I login, and my desktop is loaded. Same thing with safe mode. First time this happened, I just started pressing random keys and it stopped. This time even that didn't work.

As a last resort I was going to format the drive and load up a backup image. Before I did that, i decided to boot up live ubuntu using a usb, as means to copy over some files before I format. And the same thing happened when I booted up off of a usb. Instead this time, the home folder in Ubuntu would open up by it self, constantly.

Thats when I realized it might be a hardware problem. Out of ideas, I just shutdown my computer, took out the battery, and just let it sit there for lke 10 mins. That fixed the problem temporarily. It started happening again even after i uninstalled chrome and had firefox as the default browser.

I still don't know what the problem is, or how to go about avoiding it. Is something is short circuiting the keyboard, to launch the browser via hotkeys? How to i disable specific hotkeys? The laptop has a browser button, right next to the power button, can I disable that? This is the only thing I can come upwith. None of the buttons seem to be in a locked position. I dont think it a virus, cause it happened in Ubuntu on usb, where the home folder would launch by itself. Im currently doing a full scan with MSE while the issue is dormant. Im so confused.

pretty much sure its a keyboard issue, may be spilled or physical damage, I have seen a hp mini which wont boot because F11 key was Short, but in your case it can't be a standard keyboard key as it needs two key press to open a new window. So it must be special function key browser button or Home key, Check for disabling extra function keys on keyboard, must be a hp keyboard Utility.

    Toothpaste.....yeah. :)

If i go for new CPU i'll spread new Arctic Ceramique.

No overclock. Never. Factory state with a Vertex 2 SSD as boot and Momentus 750 XT in the blu-ray position with HDD Caddy. Optical went external.

When playing games i reach 81 to 86 celsius.

I'm kinda dissapointed from the gaming performance. I was thinking to sell it locally and go for a Lenovo Y580 with i7 3610 and GTX 660 but with 1366x768 res not the fullhd model.

I went to a local store here (MediaMarkt) and i ran some tests on other laptops.

i5-3210 with gt 630 is slower than this one - i mean the dv6.

Forgot to mention. I installed also the 12.9 Beta Drivers and the Cpu Overdrive tab is missing from AMD Vision Center. Don't know why.

    Probably because of beta release.

Yeah, interesting. I am already running Win8 with the previous HP stock BIOS and haven't really encountered any problems. Well, the HP Support Assistant doesn't ever find any updates, but I'm not sure that's really a problem. Of course, my model is a dv6z-6100 CTO. I'm not sure what the difference is. Trying to install it anyway resulted in an error message.

Just installed the new BIOS. FAN and TEMPS are quite lower than before.

The previous BIOS had a default voltage on CPU 1.32 ?????? Now it's 1.18

    @Vect

Can you help me please to O/C mine ? I can't do it with K10Stat says something about cpu not detected

Also is there any way or chance to mod a BIOS (for the GPU Clocks) and install it to my DV6 ?

I think you're trying to overclock a Trinity APU rather than Llano, Llano architecture is based on that of the Phenoms (Stars) but without L3 cache. Trinity APUs cannot be overclocked, only undervolted (I think you can raise the frequency in each step but not more than the one given by factory)

    Separate the issue:
For CPU, try all 3 below
    k10stat
    fusiontweaker
    pscheck

    GPU:
if you want to use bios OC (no difference compare to SW OC, just that you don't need to OC in windows) you must use one of the mushos
or afterburner AFTER you turn the dGPU on via any software config as high performance.

    A) I had a crappy version of K10STAT.

    I've found 1.54 and works. I have B0 2933 1.2875
    P0 @ 2800 with 1.2375

K10stat must be opened each time i want to enable it or can be at startup.

Can you indicate me 1-2 config to try ?

Mushos Bios are great but my model does no let me to load them.

I downloaded the latest afterburner. I did the copy paste in the .cfg file but i cant touch the clocks.

Where is this ? "dGPU on via any software config as high performance."

In the Amd Vision Center ?

LOTS of stuff. Thank you very much.

Bad thing is i can't flash my BIOS. "I get the error that the BIOS isn't for this machine"

Any way to bypass this or make it work for mine ?

    Found this about ULPS http://ulps.achromaticcomputing.com/

    and this http://www.overclock.net/t/1088266/ulps-gui-config-utility-enable-disable

Just use afterburner.... or try to contact Musho, but seriously speaking using afterburner is not that bad either. Congrats now you have unlocked the full potential of your laptop, now I really recommend you to buy some 1600 Mhz RAM.

I've added gpu-z as dedicated GPU app. I'm trying to see clocks with Afterburner but still nothing.

I've sent already a pm to Musho to ask him if there is a way to have or edit my BIOS.

Last night when playing BF2BC the system shutted down from temps.

Don't know. Maybe i was using too much voltage. i'm trying now at 2600 with 1.125

I did also the .cfg trick in the Afterburner.

you have to deactivate ulps to be able to oc your gpu.

Just go in to the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\C lass\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001\EnableUlps
and switch the value from 1 to 0. Next step would be to activate the oc option in the Afterburner ini, which you already did. Now you should be able to oc the gpu. If not try a driver update.

And for the Cpu part, i dont know which voltage you used before @2600 but i would be suprised if the cpu would run stable with 1.125V @2600. My A6 needs atleast 1.1625V to run stable. Just keep an eye at your tempretures. If your notebook gets to hot reduce the clock+voltage.

    Problem with AfterBurner solved.

Just downloaded these 2 dll files and placed them in AfterBurner directory.

    Relative thread here

When rebooted MSI AfterBurner revealed my clocks.

    I tested and works with 12.8 - 12.9 - 12.10 and 12.11

I'm currently with 12.11 and everything runs fine so far.

    @zars

ULPS was already disabled and .cfg file was changed also in the AfterBurner but still nothing.

Until i got the missing dll files.

I was playing BF2BC and LOL and WRC 3 for almost 2 hours with these voltages.

System was OK. My temps were below 83 celsius all the time.

    Everything runs fine.

I got artifacts @ 770 core and 880 mem. Reduced to 750 and i let the mem at 880 and works OK.

    Nice to hear =)

But do you run your P0 state with 1.125V @2600???

If so then ur really lucky with your cpu ;)

Well im using my gpu @770/880, with a 2600 cpu clock and some heavy usage i reach 90°C with ease. So not bad so far =).

    Hi im using a lenovo z575 notebook but its almost same as this one ( A8 3550mx 6620G + 6650M, 8 GB RAM 1600 mhz, Win 7 x64).
I have a little problem with the crossfire mode when i play BF3. The game performance is not bad 40 - 50 fps, but evry 10 seconds i get small stutterings for example when im flying a jet then the fps sometimes drops down to 30 and then go up to 40-50 again. When i check GPU-Z then i can sometimes see that the clock speed is switching from 250 - 444 Mhz on the 6620g, the 6650M is mostly constant @ 800Mhz.
Someone know a solution how i can prevent the 6620g clock jumping to hold the clock @ 444Mhz or get constant fps always?
If crossfire is off i have no stuttering every 10 sec but i have then low fps.. about 20 fps. This happens with all drivers.
(i'm using 12.11 beta driver, ULPS is off, k10stat cpu clock @ 2300 Mhz 1,12V, temperature is mostly 85°C)

I would be real lucky if i have a way to leave this damn country i live or if i win a small lottery.

    Anyway.

    I've ended last night BF2BC @2667 in P0 state with 1.125 and 750/880 in the 6750m

    Temps were between 89-91

I noticed also that if the overall cooling can somehow be improved the FPS remain stable. Now i will find a solution without damaging the chassis for better cooling.

1)I will place copper BGA modules in the memory and also ( if there is room) i'll place couple of them on the existing cooler left - right somewhere around.

2)I will drill a hole of 42mm and add a 40mm fan to extract air in the bottom. (But this is not sure for now)

    @bouuman

Stuttering is absolutely normal because the integrated GPU has only 512MB of ram available to handle for graphics.

When you have asymetric crossfire you have 512mb from the APU and 1024 from your card.

BF3 is very heavy game. And requires power and video ram. I have small stutterings too.

I don't know if there is a way since you have ULPS off to hold the clock at 444MHz all the time. As this depends from the APU load. 6650m is if not much at least somehow slower from 6750m

Keep in mind also that asymetric crossfire is somehow "a lie" since the drivers must be perfect and the game must fully support this feature.

As you probably know most of the games are written/build for NVIDIA cards either you like it or not.

if i turn on ULPS my clock will be constant @ 444 mhz ? i turn it off because it cause idle clocks with some drivers and result is 10 fps....

No do not turn it on. Leave it disabled. But you can't do anything about micro stutterings when you play with this config. I mean with asymetric crossfire and generally with this machine. Either you have to sell it or to live with it.

FYI i've listed my DV6 for sale in the local forums here. If it's sold i'm grabbing asap Lenovo Y580. BUT THE MODEL with 1366x768.

    NOT the model with 1920x1080.

    Costs 759 Euros and has

    1)i7 3610QM (upgradeable)
2)GTX 660M DDR5 2GB (would play almost everything in high settings)
3)Wireless Display. If you have smart TV you can send content without cables.
4)mSATA slot to add msata SSD of your choice from 16GB to 256 and use SSD caching.

I've spent thousands of euros in PC's. This DV6 is my 1st laptop. I'm not overall happy with it but it's good for the money i paid.

Turn off xfire, my experience is that ULPS really doesn't matter. Shutter is either xfire or CPU throttle.

if you don't want to damage the chassis, go to waresphere and buy the back cover for the laptop, then, on that one, proceed to do the holes. I normally run my processor at 3.0 ghz, if you put an extractor just below where the processor is, you get easily 60 to 69 degrees @ 2.6 ghz (that's my current setup right now, with voltage set to 1.1500v) at 3.0 ghz I get 81° (but this is with a very good extractor, see my signature)

Alright so I was searching around to see if i can find anything for future updates for this computer. I found my answer for the FHD 1080p screen, ram possibly can only go up to 8GB @1600Mhz ( i thought when i bought it was 16 GB but what ever. I dont even use all the 8). My main thing was windows 8 on this system. It runs but it had problems. but this was one of the first windows 8 downloadable software. I have the basic dv6z 6100 CTO version. Are any of you going to try windows 8 or just loving windows 7 until next pc purchase? im seeing this computer in my hand for another 2-4 years truthfully so any upgrade ability will be useful. Windows 8 a go on this model?

Ok guys, I repartitioned the whole drive. There are 4 partitions on the original drive. Used Windows 8 install disc to delete them all, to make one. Did this by booting up from the disc, and giving you the option. I backed up all the data that i wanted to keep first before doing this.

So with windows 8, ehh its different for sure. No start menu , but there are mods for that. I installed start is back, Start is back!
    That is a good one.

Windows 8 is great with a Start Menu third party app, otherwise is UNUSABLE.

Now, for those who don't know, you can get a free Windows 8 with Media Center Key by just giving an Email in Add features - Microsoft Windows, it takes more than one day for them to give your key though.

Windows 8 has no problems in this laptops, I even installed it with a USB stick, plugged into a usb 3.0 hub going into my 3.0 port no problems.

Recommended driver is 12.11, that driver even returned the gradual changes on the brightness for my laptop.

    Hi Vect.

Is this the deal you're talking about ?

Are you sure this would fit and it's exact replacement ?

Do you know if they post without any problems to Europe ?

I am trying to unbrick my HP DV6Z-6c00 and I just wrote this message to Musho at a different forum but I will go ahead and post it here, too!

I am at the moment writing you with much difficulty on my iPhone to ask for your help as an expert in unbricking my HP DV6Z-6c00 laptop which, just one day ago, I tried to flash unsuccessfully with the latest HP Bios. Now, it refuses to boot while remaining with a blank screen and the caps lock light flashing. Since then, I have been looking for answers as to how to unbrick it and these are the clues I have found thus far:
    1) HP Insyde BIOS recovery steps.
    2) HP Compaq BIOS Crisis Recovery from a Failed BIOS Flashing | Software
    3) http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...nsyde-bios-recovery-using-usb-thumbdrive.html

Which method should I use to approach this problem of my bricked bios? Thanks!

    try remove cmos battery?
If that doesn't work then try the USB method.

Thank you for replying. I had little hope someone would because of the hundreds of unanswered posts in the BIOS topic.

This is what I have done. When I tried merely clearing the CMOS by removing the battery, it did not work. After, I attempted copying the .BIN file to the root of my flash drive named with different file extensions (.FD, .BIN, no extension, etc.) with no success.

Now, I am tending to believe I need to follow the method outlined in the first link of my original post. It states that I should get the bin file from the BIOS flasher executable, use phoenixtool on it to create two new files, rename those as specified and place them in the specified folder of a flash drive with HP tools installed. That is a mouthful, but is that right?

PS: I will follow up momentarily.

Now, if I understand correctly, it is impossible to permanently brick an INSYDE bios which is used on my laptop unless there is electrical damage. However, the real challenge in recovering is correctly formatting and naming the bios file on the flash drive to which I have not found a direct answer, just a bunch of people running around like chickens with their heads cut off across the web. Soon, I will try the first linked method once my roommate wakes up and gives me permission to use his laptop. In the meantime, does that sound right?

    Miracle of miracles, it worked!

If anyone happens to be searching the Internet for an answer to fixing or unbricking the BIOS on their HP laptop, use these instructions:

(Prestep 1). :D Do not under any circumstances send in your notebook no matter what the HP support staff tell you because the BIOS is reversibly unbrickable in all cases except severe electrical damage.

    (Prestep 2). Avoid the forums topic "C700 / CQ40 / CQ45 / DV4 / DV5 / DV6 / HDX18T - Insyde BIOS RECOVERY using a USB THUMBDRIVE" as it has misinformation and general confusion.

(Prestep 3). Refer to HP Insyde BIOS recovery steps. It is the source of this guide and, in fact, steps there can be taken interchangably with those here. (Props to kallisti5!)

    1. Download the latest official HP bios flasher for your notebook. Extract the bin file from it, contained within an executable within that executable.

    2. Use Phoenix Tools, probably at least version 2.04 which worked in my case, on the specified bin file. Rename the two resulting files RSA.SIG and *****F<VERSION>.bin.DEC to *****.SIG and *****.BIN, where ***** is the original numerical code of the .bin file you provide Phoenix Tools. Refer also to the instructions outlined here ( HP Insyde BIOS recovery steps. ).

    3. Copy to a formatted flash drive in the folder "Hewlett-Packard/Bios/Current" as mentioned here ( HP Insyde BIOS recovery steps ) after using the tool HP UEFI Support Environment SoftPAQ as shown here ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...veCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5214382 ) to create a BIOS recovery system.

    4. Remove system battery and unplug wall adapter, insert the USB flash drive, press and hold the Windows key and B and, while doing so, reinsert the wall adapter, press and hold the power button for a few seconds and then release all the buttons and wait momentarily. Soon, the screen should be lit and the BIOS formatting sequence should begin. The notebook will then reboot and your BIOS will be fully recovered.
