What happens when you run a "high performance" program in the background while running a "power saving" program? Will the "power saving" program be run on the discrete graphics card or will it be run on the integrated GPU while the high performance one is being run on the discrete GPU?
The reason why I'm asking is because I'm trying to run Minecraft on the discrete GPU because the stupid switchable graphics issue hasn't been fixed for these computers.

My processor will not go above 1.5 ghz. Now matter how intensive things are on the computer. I have all application profiles set.
-
Change the following fields:
UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
Set UnofficialOverclockingMode to 1 to keep PowerPlay active (may not work on old ASICs), 2 to traditionally disable PowerPlay or to 0 to temporary disable unofficial overclocking path
You will have to save the config file elsewhere because UAC won't let you overwrite the file (if installed in C:\Program Files), then copy and paste the modified file to replace the original. -
well,Varu is talking about his processor, that's not an afterburner issue, that's a k10stat issue...did you tell him about enabling clock control?
In General, for you recent arrivals to the thread, you really should look up Abbadon's thread on how to overclock the llano's. It's in this forum and covers 90 percent of what you need to know.

For all you guys that have not yet switched over to the 8.861 vid driver, you REALLY should...as the performance increase over the stock or 8.880 driver is really pretty substantial. If you have windows update turned on, sooner or later it will tell you that there exists and 'optional upgrade' for the 6750m video driver. That one is the 8.861 vid driver so download it and let MS crash your system while it installs LOL.
Assuming you've run the Kombustor Benchmark before (score should be in the mid 900's; you'll find an increase of around 15 percent, i.e. your new score should be substantially over 1k, and nearing 1100. As a *side effect* its also more stable.

A couple things on clock control. One, don't click the clock speed buttons, only the circle selection next to it.
Also, if you're using CPU-Z it doesn't always update, best to use HWInfo32 or HWInfo64, it will show real-time speeds of all four cores. Plus you should tax the cores with something like Prime95.
Additionally, check your power profiles and run at high performance.
iGPU = integrated GPU (6620G) / dGPU = dedicated GPU (6750m). Crossfire in the vision control center is a mystery, but it seems it does have a positive effect on performance with it enabled. -

Look at the bottom there just above boost..
"K10stat clock control function is disabled"
you need to right click on the K10stat cube icon in the system tray. It will bring up a menu. click on 'enable clock control', then on the next entry which is "Control function". as you hover over that it brings up a side menu. click 'Unganged". THEN, go to the lowest one, "Lock P state". Make sure that one is set to "unlock".
As to the 100 percent load, that P state is P0 which is the normal max clock. "Boost" means that P State "BO" is the Turbo Boost setting. When Amd's internal logic determines based on how many cores are active and at what loads, as well as how much load is on the gpu side of the apu; that your cpu side is safe to 'boost' it will push the clock on one or more cores up to the 'BO' p state.
Abbadon's thread referenced a tutorial on how to use K10stat, along with Abbadon's own thoughts and practices on how to overclock the Dv6z expanding upon what was in the tutorial. There are also any number of helpful comments by wing, R3, and a host of others based on their own experiences..course you read all that, right?k He put a lot of effort and hours of work into testing for that thread...It really is a good place to start.
Further, if you compare the Pstate screenie I posted to yours, you'll have a pretty good idea of where to 'end'.

I tried getting the older drivers. They just didn't want to work very well. They seemed to stutter. Sometimes I would get audio without video. So I will stick with the newest I guess.

For anyone looking for a good llano box for their gf or for just fooling around, that best buy Asus is a heck of a deal for 449.00.

AMD version has the advantage of better GPU over an Intel IGP.
Except the Intel i3 version is only $379!

Of course with everything going on the CPU die, it's getting crazy simple for manufacturers to make basic laptops. Solder the CPU on, and add a few ports, a couple RAM slots, add an LCD and you're good to go. -
Can I get a bottom-line on Linux support with Catalyst 11.7/11.8p?
Also, I've been hearing that the 6755G2 can run circles around an overclocked 555M. Where did this come from? -
Seer -
Otoh, when you see multiple web postings saying it works, probably safe to assume they're collectively telling the truth.
As for the 555m dunno where you got that from . I haven't seen anyone making that direct comparison. Shouldn't be hard to find out tho, just remember there are 2 different '555m's and they are NOT the same physical gpu (Nvidia up to their mis-naming tricks again). One is used on the Lenovo y570 and has ddr5. The other is in the Alienware and has ddr3, but more of it, and overall I believe the Alienware chip is faster in real life, but things might have changed as drivers have improved.

It would be nice to get performance of that AMD Asus overclocked. Hell, I might bite for that instead of the HP if it's close to the HP performance. I guess I've just become really cheap these days.
I might actually recommend that i3 Asus for my dad. He wants something with decent battery life and all he basically does is surf the web. -

I have an Envy 14 on order from Amazon that's supposed to arrive tomorrow. However, I am very seriously tempted to pop in to the local BB this afternoon to check out the Asus. Based on the info I've been able to cobble together, it appears the Asus might be as much as 10-20% slower overall than the Envy.
But with the Asus costing half as much, it might actually be the better overall buy, especially since a BIOS update to correct the screen banding was released.
I love the size/portability, style, and fixed graphics of the Envy, but you can't argue with the Asus' price/performance.
Decisions, decisions. -
Seems to me that one of our contributors here HAS the amd based asus and found it to overclock very well. Have to look back and see who it was.

Well, my HP saga continues. There is a new HP Pavilion 30% off coupon (orders over $1000). NBET4192 through 8/22.
I went to cancel my existing order to get my $40 ebates back, as well as the $25 CPU price difference, and not worry about credits, yadda yadda. Well I first called and they offered me $100 credit. So I said ok. Then they said they could only offer $70 credit. Then they said they couldn't offer any credit. Then I asked about the credit I was supposed to get for the cost difference from my exchanged laptop (had to pay full price then would credit difference when laptop shipped). Well they only showed about half of what it should have been. So I just said cancel it altogether. Still took me almost and hour on the phone just to cancel the order.
But I just ordered a new DV6z with the 30% off coupon. Hopefully this laptop will work great, because if I won't exchange next time, I'll just return it. -
-
Exchange got botched up. They processed it as a return, so I didn't have another laptop heading my way, since I got a decent price and at the time there were no 30% coupons, I argued to get my laptop for the same price, which took a lot of arm bending for some reason. And even then they didn't get it right. -
Wellll..what specs did you order this time? you know if you do it right, you can order your dv6 and go down and get the best buy Asus in the meantime, then giv to your wife LOL. all for less than that sager...
seer -
I ordered same specs, well no 3530mx available: 3510mx, 6GB (stock), 1080p screen, blu-ray (stock), 1GB 6770m...
I'm wifeless (she died about two years ago) so no chance there.

Can someone check what wireless driver they are using. I am having an issue with my wireless. I installed the Ralink driver but I am thinking I have the wrong driver. There is a realtek which fails when I install it. There is a Atheros on HPs website that I haven't tried yet. When I download large files it stops in the middle of the download. I turned off all power saving features and I can't figure it out.
-
First, let me thank everyone in the thread for helping me make a decision on getting this llano notebook. The overclocking sold it for me almost immediately. I got a 3510MX with the 6750M and 1080p screen - and it's by far the best notebook I've owned. Runs cool, keyboard is real nice to use, battery life is excellent.
My previous system is a 16" year and a half old Toshiba i7 720QM. Overclocked, the llano is 25% faster than that quad, even with the hyperthreading added in. I got it to run stable at 2.5 GHz at stock voltage - freakin' ridiculous.
The only problem I've found is a small one, but slightly annoying. If my eyes are closer than maybe a foot and a half away from the screen, there are faint horizontal lines (think every 3-4 pixel lines) across the entire surface that are really visible on greys & blues. I don't know if that is a consequence of having the matte screen or not - has anyone else noticed that with their screens? I don't know if that is worth putting in an RMA for. -
@CaptMurdock I have the 1080 screen and there are no lines. I also have not heard of anyone else having that issue. -
Thanks I will check it out. I blew up my hard drive when I got it. I installed windows fresh because I don't like all the hp junk -

You *might* try re burning the bios with the latest, I think its F.2 from the website. If that doesn't work, what you're seeing is 'banding'. Was it there before your overclock? If not, well you might try backing down a bit more, if it was always there, then try calibrating the screen. Windows has a quickfix calibration routine built in. Start, control panel, Display, then on the left side you'll see calibrate color then just follow the instructions. If THAT doesn't do it, then you need to check your drivers. Don't know what you're running but i'd wipe em clear down to vga, reboot and reinstall. If that doesn't fix it, bad news...going to have to go back.
Seer
oh, just thought of one more thing. The amd drivers allow you to overscan...that could be your problem too. Forgot where that setting is but its in there somewhere.ok, and one other other thingIt *could* be a loose connector from the mboard to the screen. If you try everything else and that doesn't work, shake the laptop carefully from side to side and see if the screen lines change. If they do, you have a loose connector and then you need to decide if you are going in there after it or not. There is a repair manual for these on the HP website, it *should* show where the cable plugs into the mboard and if you're lucky it will be under the keyboard which is NOT all that hard to remove
gluck.
ok, this is REALLY the last thing that occurred to meok, shut off the laptop, unplug it, take out the battery ..b careful, its the only really questionable design on the laptop..you slide that button CAREFULLY, once the battery is out, then turn the box back over and hold down the start button for a few secs, 2 or 3 should do. Then flip back over, get the edge of the bottom cover piece near the battery cutout, and you can carefully remove that cover. do NOT break the little plastic catch hooks...
once that cover is out, take out your memory chips and reverse themMake sure they are both fully seated and that the contacts are clean
put the cover back on, put in the batt, plug in the box and start it up. See if your banding is gone or different.

I'm still waiting on my 1600mhz RAM, should be here soon. What should I use to benchmark, before and after install, to see if there is a performance increase?
-
How much RAM did you get?
I would run a 3dmark 2011 and a couple games (e.g. crysis benchmark). I actually have 4gb of 1600mhz RAM lying around but it didn't seem to do much for me in terms of performance. Then again, my laptop wasn't fully functional so I don't know if it's the RAM. -
Hey for you guys that are looking for a 14 LLano, look at this new Lenovo Thinkpad...jeez wonder what it costs..
supposed to be available sometime today.

Hi all - I just bought a HP dv6-6135dx from Best Buy and have a couple question I hope you can help me answer.
I'm thinking about returning it and ordering one from HP website so that I can upgrade the HD to 7200rpm, the proc to the 3510M, the 1080p screen, and the 9 cell battery. My question is it worth it, I ask because I found this thread after I bought the one from Best Buy and didn't realize I could get all the upgrades from HP for about the same price. Also after reading through almost every page ( I may have skimmed a few) some of these upgrades look really nice and the ability to OC with 1600MHz RAM is a plus.
Thoughts opinions?
Thanks! -
-
Was it a single 4GB stick, or two 2GB sticks that you installed? -
do it, for the same price its a better machine. -
-
edit: new dv6zqe came today. The case seems a lot browner (like the best buy model) than the last one I had. Hmm. -
Hopefully your new one will work right! (And that's weird if you're just exchanging it they can't get you the same price easily...)
So sorry about your wife, I really am -
Love 'em to death though.
