There is no way it is hitting 127C. That must be a mistake

Yeah, that's what I figured. HWinfo is reporting it not going up that high so I guess I'm good.

Now to start the OC and Undervolt

What are good operating temps for this processor. I have cool sense up to max and it still gets to 73C. What do you guys have cool sense set to?

Coolsense will throttle your CPU performance. Set it to max performance. 73C is cool actually. Once it exceeds 85C is when you should start to worry.

Alright guys so I just received by dv6z from HP. I was under the impression that when I chose GDDR5 they would send me GDDR5. Instead GPU-Z is reporting GDDR3. I have ULPS disabled. Is there something I'm missing or did HP screw me over?

Edit: HWiNFO is reporting the gpu as a 6650M just as I suspected. If this really is the case with every dv6t I'll live with it but if not i'll be upset.

It should be a 6750M.... There is no option where it is a 6650M.

I know which is why I'm stumped. Afterburner and GPU-Z report it as a 6750M but GPU-Z also says it has GDDR3 memory. There shouldn't be a 6750M with GDDR3 memory. HWiNFO reports the gpu being a 6650M with SDRAM. I think this could easily be a case of miss-identification but I'd like other's input on the subject.

We all have seen this in GPU-Z, CPU-Z and HWInfo. It's GDDR5 and 6750m. Probably just a mis-identification, or AMD did a special run with DDR3 just for HP. Not sure how else to check unless you actually look at the RAM physically.

GPU-z reports mine as DDR3 also but I believe the card shows up and says DDR5 in the graphics properties. select Advanced View under preferences then select information, click on Hardware and scroll down to see the graphics card and it's type of memory.

I think GPU-z may be having trouble detecting it correctly.

How are you getting the core above 780? My slider in afterburner maxed out at 780. Also what is your mem clock at?

OK, so I overclocked and tried to run BC2 multiplayer. When I try to log on a server the activity spinner locks up after a bit and then it resets me back to the main menu. I tried locking pstate and also reducing the speed with no luck. Any suggestions?

make sure you have latest drivers for your wifi, you might try lowering your clocks to normal and see if it logs right in, if so, you can try logging in at stock then kicking it up once you're in and see what happens

@ Seeratlas - you noted that your GPU would become unstable and then at higher clocks get stable again? Have you figured out what range that's at and/or why it's doing that?

HELP!! So HWiNFO64 and Afterburner both show my 6750M GPU at 100% usage with nothing but the desktop running and it doesn't change if I shut down all OC

edit: so I turned off crossfire and ran Kombustor, the cpu usage dropped back down to 0 with occasional usage and now it's showing good again, wierd.

    Ah so BLAME CANADA! ;)

Just so you know, on my Asus, I was able to play Bad Company 2 for 1.5 hours **ON BATTERY** limiting CPU to 1.8GHz and using integrated GPU @ 1280x720. I was getting a solid 25-35 fps. lol. The DV6z should fare better. Mine should be here Friday. Then it's time to decide to be cheap (Asus) or get the better screen, blu-ray, and longer battery life (DV6z). As long as nothing is wrong with my DV6z that is. ;)

    @ Seer.

I have been tinkering around some more with my gpu. I noticed my igpu gets p641 in 3dmark11 and dgpu gets p1256 and with xfire on I get p1575. All at stock settings.

Now my question is when you run 3dmark11 do you notice your fps jumping? I checked it out and the igpu kicks on and off during the benchmark. I was wondering if anyone else had that issue and if it was because i am using ccc11.8.

you know, after a ms update mine started doing that occasionally. Seems to happen right after start up so i put gpuz into my startup routine and when i turn it off it kills the 99 percent usage. Havn't figured out what its doing or why to hang up like that, but it IS running full tilt doing something cause you can watch the gpu's temp go right on up if you don't stop it.

I wish i had a white sheet on exactly what amd set as its tdp algorithms for determining its allocations of resources. First, 3dmark11 tests a lot of different things, things that handled variously by the dedicated gpu, the integrated gpu, and the cpu parts. If you set amd's system resources to record, then start 3dmark11 and let it run, you can come back afterwards and look at what all has gone on while it was running. assuming you have sufficient tdp 'headroom' you've got boost going on every few seconds, and you have igpu jumping in and out as it adds its abilities to what the dedicated is doing (assuming you're running in xfire.) Since the igpu at stock can put out roughly 40 to 50 percent of what the dedicated can do, that's a BIG jump in capacity as it jumps in and a BIG loss when it jumps out. It's the way it works :) If you play around with how you allocate what processor does what in the switchable graphics part of the CCC, you can 'tune' the system to make the most of what you have for most of the time you have it :)

those crossfire profiles are for games and specific applications, don't recall there being one for 3dmark11 :) oh, and one other thing that is going on, the igpu is also jumping from a core of 225 to 444 all the time, and the dedicated seems to clock down to 100/150 then zoom up to 600/800 or whatever your overclock is. Get's pretty crazy inside that laptop :)
    seer

One thing to remember when you're doing your switchable graphics assignments. The cpu and igpu are constantly trading resources.. so anything you can do to make sure the igpu is not being employed while the cpu needs to run full tilt and vice versa, will increase your scores dramatically. There is a built in bias towards the igpu btw..i.e if its a fight, the igpu gets MORE resources than the cpu side.

so for an a6 with oc to a8 and 6750 at stock is p1575 a good 3dmark score? Seeing how you were able to get 2000+. I know I will not get the same performance as the a8 llanos.

hmm, you might want to search this thread and Abbadon's thread for a6 numbers. You are running stock right? If i remember right, the damned a6's can really overclock, mem speeds much faster than i can get. didn't someone get a 3dmark11 p2000 on an o'clocked a6 rig?

Also if your temps approach 80C, then it will downclock your CPU to P6 state, so check your temps too. That can cause performance issues as well.
