I know what you're talking about, just can't recall the exact link either.

The DV4/5/7 touch pad is polished. Just use it a while and a little of your finger oils will build up and make it less "sticky-like."

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I keep my touchpad polished to a sheen, that way I always have a place to check my hair. ;)

Can anyone help me out? I just received my HP DV7T notebook from HP Store and unfortunately I am having trouble with the eSATA port. As I always do, I perform a clean install of Windows on my laptop as soon as I received it. I just booted into Windows, made sure the computer booted fine and I also registered my notebook. Then I formatted my hard drive and installed Windows Vista 32-bit. While installing, I noticed I could not find any drivers for the eSATA controller so I just went ahead and installed the rest of the drivers. Well, I'm done but I can't seem to get the eSATA to detect my eSATA external hard drive. Is there anything special I need to do? Is it using the Intel chipset SATA controller or is there another driver I need to install? The Device Manager is not showing any bangs so I assume everything that needed to be installed is installed. Thanks.

I'm praying that when I wake up tomorrow that there will be an email in my box saying "Shipped"

And oh yeah for anyone who is currently waiting for their laptop just so know the first time I ordered the dv7t when it was shipped it took about 1 day and a half to reach me in NC.

I'm not sure if the laptop is the same but in order to install eSATA drivers (ICH7/8/9) on my desktop, I had to install them before I installed Vista 64 using the "hit f6 for 3rd party RAID/SCSI drivers."

I recently ordered a Zalman NC2000 cooler for my dv7t. I have never owned a laptop and needless to say, a laptop cooler either. I kind of expected more air to come through the cooler. Even on the highest setting it doesn't seem to be pushing a whole lot of air through it. I got it to use while I am playing CoD 4 and Crysis, since left palm rest where the hard drive is gets pretty warm when playing these games. Granted there are no vents under the HDDs, which seemed pretty dumb to me.

Anyone else own or know about this cooler.

I bought one of those coolers too. I suggest removing the expresscard insert. It helps cool the palmrest a little.

Thank you so much. I assumed the HP Intel drivers had full AHCI SATA driver support for my notebook so I didn't bother downloading and installing the AHCI SATA drivers from Intel's website but your reply made me try them and low and behold, not my eSATA port works. I didn't need to reinstall Windows. I just downloaded the executable driver installation file from Intel's website. Thank you once again.

hi all, i am currently working on this pc for a client, they want to put 64 vista on it, but when i got the drivers page from HP it shows intel drivers for the graphics card.

I called tech support (omg i know why i told her not to buy a Hp laptop).
the Helpfull technician told me they will work, but from the way he spoke to me i wanted to make sure.

can anyone confirm the drivers from the HP webite for intel chipset graphics drivers will work with the 9600m GT in this laptop

    its a DV7-1026TX

    Thanks BaldMan

Hey Times, I'm hoping you have a 5.1 system with S/PDIF so you can answer something for me :)

I'm a total audiophile and work with pro audio gear all the time, but I have to admit that I don't use S/PDIF very much. My understanding is that sending 2-channel audio to all 5 surround channels (let's just assume the sound system does the sub crossover) would require software/driver support, so I'm hoping the included software lets you do that with the QuickDock's S/PDIF connector. Can you tell me what kind of options you have for the output when the QuickDock is connected?

If it works well, I'm planning on buying a QuickDock myself and a 5.1 system with S/PDIF input (good excuse for a better one hehe).

I have a MOTU UltraLite that I connect via FireWire, but I don't really want to do any serious hacks (i.e. redirecting with Live) to get the same thing I do currently with my Audigy ZS 2 Notebook (CMSS 3D == stereo surround). Especially because I already have it set up for music production.

    BIG WARNING:
To anyone who is looking at getting the X-Fi Xtreme ExpresssCard for sound... prepare to be disappointed. For one, it actually stuck out of my dv8000t quite a bit more than it should, and the surround connector that's included with the PCMCIA version of the card costs an extra $30 with this one. Oh, and did I mention the sound quality sucks?! Stay away from that piece of crap!

FYI: Nvidia 55nm Parts Are Bad Too

This may or may not be an issue for us. Looks a little over-hyped at the moment, but we can expect some real facts to emerge soon.

hey nomoredell, i was looking at that same gateway but ended up going with the dv7t... the only thing i liked about the gateway was the graphics card, but other than that i liked the features of the dv7t... I would have liked to have seen the 9800m gt as an option for the dv7t, but we'll see how the 9600m does. Either way it will be a big upgrade for me coming from an old dell latitude d600...

First of all, that's from the Inq so take it with a gallon of salt.

Second, NVIDIA has stated the issue has been fixed so all HP DV7T notebooks should be ok I believe.

go to support.hp.com and type in your model #, get to the proper download page, and download and install (re-install) the "jmicron card host adapter", <it is the one that uses 3 base system devices, in the device list>, possibly re-install/update driver from support.hp.com? If not, you might have a bad reader? unlikely, but possible.... I'd even go as far as "gutting" the word "jmicron" from the registry using rcrawler.exe, (delete them) then re-install again...

"Microsoft Sync Center has stopped working ". I have to close the program to continue.
What is this and how do I fix it?"

    - It is for your smartphone or windows based cellular phone, sometimes pre-installed. for palm, mogul, ppc, anything with win c e or mobi.... contacts, phone #'s and calendar sync program for windows and outlook...
Just un-install it, and If it doesnt go, use an "uninstaller" (google it), worst case scenario (similar to other cardreader prblem) gut the ACTIVESYNC generic/unique word from the registry. rcrawler is the best.

    jpzsports---
    ****Maint programs****
I use cccleaner, avg pro, windefend, "msconfig", "regedit---browse...to...-hkeylocakmachine>software>microsoft>windows>currentversion>explorer>->Browser Helper Objects -delete entries to the right when selected on this folder (BHO's are bad)- and also clean/re-set your "Winsockets" -winosck- a few times a year...you can get a program or dos command to do this from a google search...

    -------

    BaldMan ---

    "cant get drivers 9600m gt"

Nivida.com DOES NOT have the driver for the 9600m gt, it is hp specific (as usual) and you NEED thiers.... I ALWAS do the "vista 64bit clean installs" for every "new" notebook I service, and the biggest issue is finding hp video card and base system device drivers...
"support.hp.com" under the "dv7t" page DOES NOT HAVE ANY DRIVER DOWNLOAD YET for the 9600m gt, but the trick I use is to browse to the dv5t or 3 models support page to find the FULL list of drivers/devices we have in the big bro dv7t system... download accordingly... Anyone who can do it, I ALWAYS suggest a FULL CLEAN, 0's to drive, formatted Vista or xp or linux install , omitting/deleting all existing hp or vendor software installs of the os. No recovery drive, no this and that, you know.... 1 partition all space, no b/s

i have the windows 6.0 kb on my usb key, so after chipset/driver installs, 1st thing to do next is SP1 vista or SP3 xp.

I am going to carefully cut discreet slits on the cover plate over the HDD's and anyone else who is concerned can do this too. (i have 2 wd black 320gb 7200rpm hdds)

That's an awesome deal. I would have gone with 64 bit edition just to future proof it but there's nothing wrong with 32 bit.

Anyways when's your expected ship date?

I'm still waiting for them to ship it to me.

To be honest it varies from where I'm standing with it leaning towards 2 to 3 days.

My first dv7t (which I returned so I could reorder it using a coupon) arrived at my house like 2 days after they said they had shipped it.

However I think others have mentioned it taking a longer time.

It's really just hit or miss. Sometimes they're really fast when it comes to building and shipping. Other times not so fast.

However if are even slightly considering changing one spec on laptop and you want to cancel your order do it as soon as possible otherwise HP will make you go thru this long and VERY annoying process.

I actually purchased a Dell Studio 1735 but was a little disappointed with the screen and how hot it got. The Dell Studio 1735 had an Intel T8100 with ATI Radeon 3650 and it got too hot for my lap. I was installing Windows and all of my apps with the laptop on my lap all day yesterday and I felt it was really cool. My HP DV7T is much cooler and can actually use it on my lap without a laptop cooler. I ordered it with an Intel P8400 and Geforce 9600GT. I am pretty surprised how cool my HP DV7T is and am happy to finally have a laptop once again that I can actually use it on my lap.

when i found out about the coupon, i spec'd a new machine and calculated the estimated savings. i would be saving almost $700 with the 30% coupon (as opposed to the $400 off coupon), so i called to return my current dv7 that had arrived a couple days later, and ordered the new beast within 20 minutes-half hour. the time on my order is 8:58 pacific time. l0l

on the new machine, i got vista ultimate, fingerprint reader + webcam and the highest cpu, the t9600. the total came out to about $2279 and with the 30% off, it came out to $1595 ;-D

pdx - re: your audio question from a couple days back ---

i have no clue what you were talking about :)

i am going to be using my z-5500 surround sound speakers with my dv7t but i simply connect the 2 together via a stero cable. one end goes from the speakers to the headphone jack on my laptop - that's it.

as for anything higher-quality/digital/etc, i don't have the slighest clue.

roflmao at the "have more fun on your pc" as a feature of windows.... i guess, since the home basic version does not have this feature checked off, people running home basic edition are just going to be having a minimal amount of fun.

those of us with home premium or ultimate editions of windows are going to be having a blast.

Yeah I dunno. I'm sorta hoping that they'll ship it out by the end of today cuz if not then I'm afraid they will definitely stick to the Sept 4th date.

Which sucks since I've got a lab report that I want to work on just not on the shared computer.

I have a question regarding the battery. I usually keep my laptop plugged in all the time, unless I take it to class (which is not everyday) or into another room, which isn't that often either. I guess about 90% of the time, it's on my desk plugged into the wall. I usually unplug it before I go to sleep after I shut it down.

So, my questoin is does having the computer plugged in to a power source almost all of the time affect the life of the battery? Should I drain it and charge it regularly? Or does it even matter? I just don't want to mess up the memory of the battery life.

    Thanks

it does kill it. i too will have my dv7t plugged in most of the time. someone on here suggested that i charge the battery to 100% then throw it in the freezer to extend it's life.

then just use it when needed. when done using it, charge it to 100% again( assuming u used it a lot) and throw it back in the freezer until the next time you need it.

I would suggest not leaving it plugged in all the time. If anything, maybe plug it into a surge protector which you can turn off with a flip of a switch. It is not good for the battery in the long term.

vista home premium and ultimate are pretty much the same,
both have graphics support aero interface and performance to close to notice a diference.

except ultimate has globla languages support.
home basic doesnt have aero interface.

lol. I've heard lots of great things about those speakers, you should at least use the digital connector on your QuickDock for surround-sound movies :)

I think what I was looking at was the IDT control panel or something, it's the audio card vendor's control stuff. I'm not really worried about it at this point; I think I might just use my firewire device for the surround connection and it looks like those speakers can twiddle with the sound field.

haha, yeah, those options are a little wonky. I think the item that reads "Most secure Windows ever" needs to be edited!

So, I just woke up from a nice little hangover nap and I had a dream that my dv7 shipped. I was so happy... until I checked my order status

im going to make+sell a new car and one of the options will be:

"Roundest car tires ever offered!" :D :D :D

o snap - i didnt even realize the quickdock had the digital audio port! sweet! now i just need to find the cable for it. one end would be the one that goes into the quick dock - what does the other end look like that connects to my speakers? any idea?

    thanks pdx.

If I made a car, the options would reflect those of HP:

    "No car keys w/remote control"

"3 Year Extended Service Plan with Intoxicated Driver Damage Protection"
