How do you check to see what temperatures the computer is running at?

I use HWMonitor to check my temps.
Post your temps once you have it. I want to compare with you how hot the computer get when playing crysis. I get an average of about 70 degree's C for the GPU and 55-60 for CPU. Of course I have the back of the notebook elevated by about half an inch.

Isn't nice to know that all our very expensive and much wanted laptops are out globe trotting and living it up while keeping each other company? I feel like I am chasing the Travelocity Gnome (or is that Expedia?). O the stories they will have to tell.

    charonill,

I just downloaded HWMonitor from CPUID.com. I downloaded version 1.0.1.4 (don't know if it makes a differance).

Question: Do I have to have the program open and running while playing a game for it to monitor the temps, or just have it installed?

^ you dont install it. you run the program whenever you want (after you turn your computer on and get to the desktop, or an hour after you're playing a game, etc) -- and it'll tell you the temps of most of your hardware components at that time. it updates every second or 2 so you have an up-to-date read out of tempratures.

download is on the upper left-hand corner. pick 32 or 64 bit based on your OS.

I wish mine could join the party, I wonder if she will get any friends to play with.

Order in production (Estimated to ship on September 9, 2008) :(

Also I'm sure most of you already know, but if not HP has a bunch of notebook accessories on sale. I just ordered an extra AC Adapter to leave at the office.

Intel's first two quad-core processors for notebooks will be the Core 2 Quad Q9100 and Core 2 Extreme QX9300. The 9100's four cores will run at 2.26 GHz, while the Extreme Edition will be clocked at 2.53 GHz. Both CPUs integrate FSB1066, but only the QX9300 has an unlocked multiplier.

didnt no mobile quad already out?

I just got the dv7-1020us, and i really love it. It's battery last like 2:30 to 3 hours with the battery saver option.

Also i could play some pc games at high resolutions without problem or laggy :D. Also the blue ray is a good very option.

But i notice that the black color is a little brighter and i couln't find anything to solve this.. someone knows how?

Also i'm trying to pick ups some hd channels by the antenna but i cant get any... do i need to download some driver?

    Thanks,

From earlier discussion on this in other forums threads I believe the ACPI is the heatsink temperature (I could likely be wrong). So have you tried playing Crysis with HWMonitor working?

Thanks for the quick response, but seeing as I'm a computer Doofus, what is the heatsink temperature?

    charonill,

Just got done playing some Crysis and the max temps reached during play are as follows:

    ACPI: 66 C (150 F)

    Processor: - Core 1: 66 C (150 F)
    - Core 2: 65 C (149 F)

    GPU - nVIDIA 512mb 9600M GT: 72 C (161 F)

    HDD 1: 42 C (107 F)

    HDD 2: 41 C (105 F)

I am using a Zalman NC2000 cooler on the highest setting while playing. How do these compare to your temps? Do you have a cooler, or just elevate the machine?

Just went back and read one of your previous posts again and saw your numbers. Yours are actually a good bit cooler on the processors with just having it elevated. Maybe I should compare using the cooler and just elevating the machine.

Anohter question: what graphics setting are you playing it on? I have been playing all settings on medium, except for a coulple of spots where I had to turn them down to low (when defending the aircraft carrier, I think this is towards the end of the game; not sure. Haven't beaten it yet).

I also have it on full screen with a resolution of ~1200 - ~700 (can't remember the exact resolution numbers).

Yea, those look pretty similar to what I get on mine. Although since I have the 250GB harddrive, which doesn't have a temperature sensor, I have no idea what my HD temp is like, but it gets warm.

I usually play on medium at max res (1440x900 for me), with the shadow's on low since it is one of the most intensive functions in Crysis (makes the game look amazing, but drops frame rate like a mofo). On most levels it gives me anywhere between 20-35 fps. However I found that once you hit the snow levels the frame rates drop considerably, so I suggest you turn your setting on low after. I turned everything on low and lower res for the carrier mission since any higher and the game becomes very difficult to play, I don't know how many times I've died on that level because of laggy frame rates affecting my aim. Besides, there's so many things going on that mission that you don't really have time to stop and admire the scenery. Oh and also, it's the end of the game, so we're gona have to wait until Sept. 16th for Crysis Warhead. Well my laptop also runs cooler now since my dorm room is like like 65 degrees and my laptop is really near the AC.

I also disagree with that guy. This laptop is great for multimedia or gaming. I have been playing the Orange Box games on high settings at a decent resolution and have not noticed any problems. I have the TV tuner and it works great.

My max temps after ~2 hours of Half Life 2:
    ACPI: 72 deg C
    Core1: 74 deg C
    Core2: 68 deg C
    GPU: 86 deg C
    HDD: 43 deg C

That is with the NC2000 cooler. The laptop itself does not feel hot at all except for the HDD palm rest area. I have the P8600 processor.

Opinions are like A$$holes, We all have them, some stink, And some are right on cue, IMHO this guys name is NOMOREDELL, yet he's hyping up their machines, hrm, smells awfully stinky to me, I have a Dell XPS, as well as a Alienware Aurora, and IMHO even though they both have dual video cards, and will run games at high to max settings in most cases, My DV7t is by far the better, cooler running of the 3, Dunno what he means about colors, I like my colors just fine, and at least with this machine I can sit it on my lap and play games without getting a serious case of leg burn.

I just called HP and spoke to someone about the exact same thing:

    Ship date: Sep 1, 2008

Estimated delivery: Sep 5, 2008 by 12:00 PM

That's to Florida with 2-Day shipping.

I called HP to ask why I paid $40 for 4 day shipping :) If I understood the CS rep correctly, the 2-Day is transit in the US - the day or two before that doesn't factor in to the shipping duration (I thought she might have also said the 1st was like the 2nd since it was China).

At first she was telling me it was scheduled to ship on the 4th so it was coming early, hahaha - I said, it ships when it ships and that starts the timer, not some phantom expected ship date :D

I guess seeing the shipping from the factory is a little different since they're built overseas. If they first shipped them to some HP distribution center before they sent the shipped message, it would actually appear to be 2 days.

She also said that with regular ground it would be the 3rd + 5-7 days, vs. the 3rd + 2 days, so it's still a bit quicker. It would be nice to get the machine with a week lead to prep it for my trip, so this would workout I suppose.

Side note: With the über coupon I'm not sure basic shipping would have still been free anyway - I seem to recall something about it being removed and the popup explanation was something about "currently applied discount offer" overriding that freebie [?]

Yes that is correct a sub on the bottom, 2 regular speakers on top NOMOREDELL is obviously one of those clowns that collects a check for hyping up their models for sale, I use my dell for a coaster for my morning coffee while checking my email, and at night while gaming, It keeps a beer up quite nicely, I enjoy my HP DV7T, And think NOMOREDELL Boy should take a hike, And as far as screen quality, Hrm looking at my DV7T and my XPS Side by Side the Screen quality on the Dell is quite shoddy, reds seem almost pink compared to the DV7, So mabe it's your eyes

The real "powerusers" and highly experienced professionals such as myself will likely be just fine with this machine. If I wanted a machine specifically for gaming I would've spent more on a "boutique" brand - however, this machine is a business tool [and moderate personal use] and in that capacity it should be outstanding.

Wow, nice commentary on your perspective of Asians. I find some of my Asian derived products - Sony XBR/2 Nikon DSLR, Lexus GS to name a few - to be best of class.

If you're unhappy with the machine then I wouldn't waste any time with all this negative vibe - as a consumer you can simply decide not to purchase another. Easy, no?

Amen, And return it, he just recieved it today, correct? But then again, maybe he never ordered 1 or recieved 1, like I said, Dell, And a few others actually issue checks to people who make postings like his, it's an underhanded business practice, but widely known as to it's existence, And this will be my last commentary on the issue, seems 99.9% of the people posting here are happy with their purchase, why let 1 bad apple ruin the wonderful experience we are having, I'm sure he's some basement troll on a dell d610 in a hidden darkened corner, waiting on another $15 check from dell.

I'm normally very tolerant of snide comments, but from the way you've been speaking I can tell you're being serious about this and I take great offense at it (I'm chinese fyi). If you have so much problems with technology touch by Asian hands, or minds, you should pretty much stop using technology in general.

Good, it's your choice for what's best for you, but I would like to ask you to stop posting in this thread once you have accomplished said actions since this thread is for Dv7t "owners," and most everyone here would probably agree with me. *just a thought* From what you've said, it almost seems you got a completely different computer from the rest of us.

i wouldnt say that, while i dont agree with his opinion of "asians", and its verging on racism, i do find my screen on the DV7 to be washed out, and lacking in colour, and in general jsut of very bad qaulity, sometimes the sound comes through the sub first, and sometimes through the speakers.

while i dont want to resort to childish insults, i do find that HP have massively dropped the ball on this one, the screen on my old DV9700 was far superior

I did find the color's a bit off in the beginning, but I went to the Nvidia control panel and fiddled around with the settings for the screen (vista's screen selections isn't as good), so now it's probably the best screen in terms of brightness and color compared to several other laptop's I've used so far. So it might just be the problem with the default screen setting, but I'm pretty happy with what I've got right now.

Turn on "Digital Vibrance" in the Nvidia control panel. I have it at 50% and it looks great.

Be careful - it makes colors bleed by oversaturating them. You won't notice it because it's not bright enough to bring out the dynamic range (or lack thereof) of the monitor, but turn it up on any Ultra BrightView screen and you'll see what I mean.

If you don't do any photography or graphics work, the only problem I can think of will be printing color mismatches. Even though it looks nice, be wary of it.

Speaking of which, has anyone looked at any colorspace representations on this monitor yet?

Hi everyone, It's been fun and a learning experience reading everyone's post. Feel's like I'm ready to just start using and tuning my new DV7 from everything I read on this board.

I too had a build date of Sept 4 and was surprised to get a early shipping date. I was sent a email showing machine shipped on the same date and time as some of the other people here. I was lucky enough to see the 30% off coupon and get a great custom machine for 1210.99 before taxes and 2 day shipping.

I'm in the exact same boat as you Bad-Dog. I'm in LA as well and was hoping it was coming direct from Alaska to LA and I'd have it wednesday morning. not sure if that is gonna happen though.

in the best case scenario it is on its way via plane and it will arrive in LA very early wednesday and might make it onto a truck for delivery....doubt we'll be that lucky but we can hope :)

Here I thought it would be a slow boat from China.
I noticed no change on delivery date.
Won't know till morning what's next on the agenda for FedEx.
Today the 3rd might be considered the day before shipping date of 2 delivery which makes Thursday the start of 2 days. funny how that works.
