cool, i found it. thanks!

Does the 9600gt vid card in this have its own fan? How many fans are in the dv7? looks like only one to me? Is there any settings to play with to turn on fans earlier to cool system quicker?
-
I just can hear one fan only, i dont know if there is another fan dedicated for the gpu.
I see that is hard to find a program where u could manage the fan settings, you could mess your laptop trying with that.
I just used the hp health care program and i found some updates that is reflecting that may i need. An update of WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS – Microsoft Windows Vista-Based and an help and support updates.
Someone have any troubles downloading these updates? It's seems to be for the dv7 series and dv5
when i try to update always shows that i need to upgrade the bios and dont seek for a new one, only the same. I entered to the hp support website and downloaded the latest one, and now works better and the startup time decreased like 15 seconds..
Nevertheless i take time until the last icon appears and it took to me 1:40min to get the machine ready for work. -
What on Earth are you trying to ask!
No comprendeh! -
Asus has wimax/wifi link 5150 and hp has wifi link5100 as I looked on the hp site. now understand? -
i connected my HDMI to my plasma and didnt get any video. i couldnt find any mention of the HDMI interface in the nvidia control panel. what settings do i need to look at? also is the HDMI port supposed to show up in device manager?
-
Try opening teh nvidia control panel and select under display>set up multiple displays and select clone or whatever yor need.
Also remember to conect all before boot the laptop and your tv turned on while booting in order to detect your monitor. -
So no "hot swapping" via hdmi. Good to know.

i am also outputting to a plasma tv. but what i found is that the picture quality is better when i output through vga as opposed to hdmi. i am not sure why. the hdmi picture seems dark and grainy and when i connect via vga, w/o changing settings on my tv, the picture is bright and crisp...
another thing - i have a surround sound system. when i output via vga, whatever i am playing (movie, music, etc) plays on my surround sound setup. when i output via hdmi, the sound comes out of my tv speakers because hdmi is both a video + audio cable......
fwiw. i didnt have any difficulty outputting the picture to my plasma tv. it's a 42" vizio, fwiw. -
huy guys, whats the exact specs for the DV7T's Ram so i can get Kingston Branded ones?

go to crucial.com , select HP, then pavilion dv7, then dv7t (CTO) and it'll show you all info about the ram for a dv7t, including what fits, etc.

is it possible to remove a DV7T's T9400 Intel Dual Core processor and put in stronger one, say, Core 2 Extreme?

Are there any alternatives to the HP 90W Auto/Truck Combo Adapter (ER691AA#ABA) for use in the car that anyone is aware of?

Just got my dv7t and im very happy with it. Only thing that may be wrong is that the quick play volume lights always stay lit on full. It still works though so its no big deal. Would updating my drivers fix that? Link please?
And where can I find updated drivers for my 9600GT? Any suggestions? Thanks -
www.laptopvideo2go.com for drivers. Just be aware that you need to use the modified .inf file. The drivers won't be signed but I am pretty sure that only affects blu-ray playback. -
So I do I use the .inf? I tried the normal driver download the other day and it did not work.

I just bought a Pavillion dv71025nr at Bestbuy on clearance for $794.99. P8400, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, DVD multi, 9600M GT, 1680x1050. No tv tuner or Blue Ray. It seemed like a good buy, what do you think? It's not going to be used for gaming.

This probably the best place to post this info and it may prove useful to someone.
Got my dv7t last week after taking advantage of the 30% off promo code (no longer available). Aside from some of the comments in the thread, I am really pleased with it.
This post deals with the accessories I got for it rather than to laptop itself. Since I will be traveling a bit with it and doing some online sales business as well, I wanted to make sure I could take everything I needed. I researched the stuff to death and even made several "field trips" with a tape measure.
First - a mouse. Wanted wireless with small form factor and excellent quality/performance/USB range. I ended up with a Logitech VX Nano. Top notch for performance, 6 buttons and a tiny USB receiver to plug in and leave in the laptop. Excellent range. I found a range of prices from $50-$72 in stores and on the web. Surprisingly, I ended up getting it for $44.95 at a BJ's Club store.
Second - a cooler. Everything led to the Zalman ZM-NC2000. Excellent reviews across the board for performance and build quality. Includes 2 USB ports, on/off switch and fan control. Ergonomics are good as well. I chose the 2000 because it is big enough to handle the laptop and the comments indicated the 1000 was a bit small. Very pleased with it.
Finally, the big challenge = a case. I wanted something that handled 1) the laptop and it's power brick (I also just ordered a cigarette power adapter), 2) the Zalman 2000, 3) somewhere for my iPod Touch/accys/cables and 4) some folders/magazines and extra pockets for other "stuff". Everything had to be reasonably accessible and the case had to be long-term dependable/robust.
Finding a case for a 17" is problematic enough, but adding the Zalman really limits the field. I did NOT want to simply order something and hope everything fit. Got my tape measure, wrote down the dimensions of the laptop & the Zalman and hit Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Circuit City, a couple of luggage stores and a few other places.
Net result = Targus Clamshell Platinum case, Model CPT401DUS (lifetime guarantee).
Received the case & cooler 1.5 hours ago. Inspected everything and went to work. Laptop and power brick fits nicely in adjustable the main compartment. Had to put the power cord in a separate pocket. Main compartment zips open and folds open for easy airport security review.
The case has a zippered, two gusset rear compartment. The Zalman fits nicely in there and there is room to spare for folders/magazines.
The other stuff I wanted to include also fits and I have more pockets if I need them. There is also a mesh compartment on the entire (outside) back of the case to stick a newspaper or magazine. Along with that, there is a strap that allows you to attach it to a rolling suitcase handle.
Ordered the case ($55) and the Zalman ($70) through Amazon to take advantage of the free shipping.
While the whole rig is a bit heavy, I am really pleased with the end result. -
I should get a cooler. You should post temps with the zalman.
-
Got mine last week, have been setting it up and switching my old PC to a server. I have to say it is a pure fingerprint magnet, and the cooling for the video card has a huge flaw. Flat on my desk the video card when runnign Second Life can run up to 75-79c, yet if I prop it up to expose the inlet on the bottom some more by even a centimetre or two it drops to 65c, raising it more can bring it down to 59c
Anyway, I'm happy with it, haven't had a chance to sit down with maya on it, using my G5 mouse with it and getting used to a US keyboard, whoever came up with this layout needs to be murdered *straight face* -
Did any of you get the Bestbuy model?
-
err i need some help. i just bought a WD Model: WD5000BEVT 500 gig internal HD. its sata 3 instead of 1.5. do our laptop support sata 3 hard drives? if so why is mine not showing up.
theres no options in the bios. windows didnt auto find and doesnt show up when searching for new hardware. -
here was the issue. the hardware sata adapter that plugs on the hard drive sata interface that pins out, is to short. if you slide it all the way on the HD it is to short to make pin to pin connectivity to the motherboard connectors. you have to pull it off about half way and make sure the pins slide into each other tightly. i hope this will help someone else. -
lol, i got the 5-7 day shipping and my laptop still came in 2 days
its in a dellivery truck right now in my city
-
-
Does anybody know how to remove the hard drive?

I already ordered dv7T, becouse cannot wait more, and it is unclear if hp was going to make any more change of this model. I am not going to buy another notebook for more than 2 years, so I dont want to have old fashioned notebook after several months. If " HP believes it is premature to offer WiMax due to limited availability, questions about interoperability, roaming and service quality. At least at this time HP believes 3G is the better option.", so there should appear 3G or 4G support ? ( http://www.notebooks.com/2008/10/08/acer-launches-first-4g-wimax-notebooks/ Acer Launches First 4G WiMax Notebooks) . 3g , or 4g is much better and expensive but its covers all country and is the same connection sourse for notebooks and cell phones.
does dv7t support 3g/4g or when it will be available?

and 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS . I ordered last one, can it be connected to desktop lcd monitor?
3. Is it possible to order 1-year HP Accidental Damage Protection with Pick Up and Return after laptop arrives? ------------------------
4. Which component of the laptop is upgradable? Can I later change 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS with

Palo Alto (CA) – If we look at the notebook manufacturers offering WiMax as an option, one important company is missing: The world’s largest computer builder, Hewlett-Packard (HP). Why? HP believes it is premature to offer WiMax due to limited availability, questions about interoperability, roaming and service quality. At least at this time HP believes 3G is the better option.
WiMax won’t be the runaway success Sprint and Xohm once hoped. Especially since availability issues will limit the number of customers interested in paying at least $30 per month for access to what is generally described as "4G" service. It seems that at least some computer vendors are taking a closer look at WiMax and its overall strategy. And so far, not all of them are convinced WiMax will reach a critical mass in the market anytime soon.
In a carefully worded statement, HP stated that "it's premature to integrate mobile WiMax into HP notebooks due to the limited scope of commercially available networks and uncertainties around interoperability, roaming, and quality of service."
They believe WiMax is an "emerging technology and may integrate it into notebooks as the technology matures."
For HP customers who want WiMax now, they are advised that they can purchase an "external solution" from a WiMax network operator. However, the company also indicated that it would much rather have its customers look at the 3G services available now: "Currently, HP is investing in 3G and other WWAN technologies and partnering worldwide with operators and technology providers to deliver the best mobile broadband experience to our customers. Today, 3G and WWAN network services are mature, with 860 networks covering 220 countries/areas around the world."
HP currently offers 3G options for CDMA and HSPA networks.
HP not interested in WiMax - for now

HP, Dell Quiet on WiMax for Laptop Computers
By Scott Ferguson
2008-10-08
Hewlett-Packard and Dell, the PC vendor giants, did not announce notebooks to support WiMax on Oct. 8, the day Sprint launched the WiMax network in Baltimore. Acer, Lenovo and other OEMs announced several laptops that support WiMax. HP says it is still testing WiMax, while Dell says its Latitude E line of laptops, launched in August, is already WiMax-enabled.
While Lenovo, Acer and a host of other PC vendors are offering up WiMax options with their laptops, the world's two largest suppliers of PCs—Hewlett-Packard and Dell—are taking a wait-and-see attitude for the time being.
On Oct. 8, the same day Sprint and Intel in Baltimore rolled out Xohm, the first commercially available U.S. WiMax network, Lenovo and Acer were two of several top OEMs that were ready to offer their users access to the new network through their laptops. While that proved a promising sign for Sprint and Intel, the two biggest backers of WiMax technology to date, HP and Dell were notably absent.
While HP, the world's top PC maker, and Dell, the world's second-largest PC vendor, each make a number of laptops that carry Intel's WiMax technology through the chip maker's Centrino 2 mobile platform, neither company is currently prepared to offer that wireless broadband option to its customers.
While HP did not make official public announcements, the company did issue a statement saying its notebook designers were testing WiMax technology with its laptops, but that HP has no plans to offer it as an option for either consumers or corporate users at this time.
Click here for a list of WiMax-enabled notebooks from Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo and Asustek Computer.
In the statement, HP said WiMax in its current incarnation does not meet the needs of HP's customers. If HP customers want to use WiMax, the company suggests buying a separate WiMax-enabled PC card, ExpressCard or USB dongle.
"HP views mobile WiMax as an emerging technology and may integrate it into notebooks as the technology matures and the commercial availability of mobile WiMax networks increases," according to HP's written statement. "However, at this time it is premature to integrate mobile WiMax into HP notebooks due to the limited scope of commercially available networks and uncertainties around interoperability, roaming and quality of service."
Dell offered a less expansive explanation. While Dell has several notebooks in its Latitude E line that are WiMax-enabled, a company spokesperson said there are no further plans to offer the technology as an option just yet. -
Very Excited, mine will ship on the 17th, cannot wait. I found a spare AC adaptor on Amazon for 34.99 plus S&H is reportedly is the KG298AA OEM, so we shall see. The HDD Caddy for the second bay is in the mail as well and the 5400 RPM Seagate 250 GB second drive is as well (79.99 NewEgg.com.)
I wish I could have gone higher on the CPU but my Case manager could not go to far above my dv9200 specs. I did get the bonus of Intel over AMD due to the fact I insisted on the nVidia video card. -
well i ve read countless pages of this thread, and since my vaio fried up i am mitigating to hp. This laptop seems pretty good, i just need to decide which one.
The dv7 1000 comes for £789 pounds (just 925 euros thanks to pound going down the drain) and dv7 1050 t0 £949 (1111 euros).
Since its late anyone caring to help out? -

Hi,
I bought the HP Pavilion dv7-1153ca laptop (Canadian version of the dv7t; HP.ca has the specs) over the weekend. I was testing the digital audio over HDMI. The connection goes...
laptop to Samsung LCD TV over HDMI
Samsung LCD TV to Digital Receiver over Optical Cable
This setup only gives me stereo sound when I play a DVD with 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. This is my problem.
troubleshooting : I've updated all my drivers from the HP.ca site.
I've checked all the options for sound in the control panel and everything looks ok. NVIDIA HDMI Audio is the default.
I've made sure the DVD player software is configured to output 5.1 sound.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks.
Has anyone with the dv7t laptop been able to successfully connect via HDMI to a LCD TV and have the audio go through HDMI and still get surround sound (i.e. 5.1 Dolby Digital sound)? -

i just bought a WD 320GB hard drive from amazon and a hard drive caddy from newmode.us .
i'll have a total of 640gb of storage on my dv7t by the end of the week :-D
my original plans were to get dual 500gb's but im not spending over $300 on that setup. this dual 320gb setup saves me some money. -
I GOT IT!!!! My DV7T came yesterday and I was able to install a clean Vista Ultimate 64b using ABR just as the tutorial recommended, SWEET! Now, anyone else experiencing the high-pitched squeaky HDD? not during loaded use but when the OS is DL updates, etc?
Also, the audio is awesome! -
-
-
It seems to be a very light squeak, high pitched, random during non-activiy times. light the head is sliding in and out accessing things but not in a fast priority way, like, weent.......weeeeeeent.......weeeent.....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeent...weent...wint, wint, wint...
sorry, kinf of like a Midas ad, huh? light, faint metal on metal sound. The thing is two days old, bios diag tests fine., might be a little self conscious since it is so new. -
moose,
yea, mine does that to... has since i got it. Someone earlier on the forum said it might be the heads on the hard drive "parking". no idea what that means, but i haven't had any problems with it thus far. i've had it for about three months. still not sure what the sound actually is, though. -
I have a dv7t for almost a month now and im happy with it :-D
I have a little problem though...
Its a japanese release which came with japanese vista home premium preinstalled.
I have already managed to install an english vista home premium with the help of orev's Clean Vista install WITH NO ACTIVATION guide(Thanks!) and everything works fine except for one annoying thing: my IDT Audio control panel is still in japanese. I am using an english installer downloaded from HP-US support site but still no luck. Ive also tried looking up the registry values for IDT incase there might be a language key that i can tweak. It seems that the installer reverts to japanese when it detects that my hardware is of japanese release as with the case of most nVidia installers. with nvidia i just deleted the japanese library files and everything defaults toenglish but in IDT's case i cant find the japanese library files(if there's any).
any idea how i can force it to use english for the audio control panel interface?
Thanks! -
How could i know if i could upgrade the HDD, cpu or gpu from my hp laptop? I bought one preconfigurated one.
-
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
on laptops:
gpu's you can NOT upgrade. someone correct me if i am wrong but i dont think i've ever seen this done.
hard drives you can always upgrade. some models you can put 2 drives in. if you have a dv7t, you can put 2 drives in it. i actually got my drive mount yesterday and my 320gb wd hard drive should be arriving today. i'm bumping my storage up to 640gb between 2 hard drives.
cpu's can be upgraded as long as they are the same socket.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01550113.pdf - that's the manual on the dv7t's guts and hardware. it should come in handy if you ever plan on upgrading anything on it.
it covers changing/upgrading hard drives with nice visuals.
