Does this notebook have a sub-woofer on the bottom of it?

I've got a dv7t quad coming this week. It has two drive bays. Would it be possible to put an SSD in one of the drive bays? Is there any kind of configuration that needs to be done or anything to be aware of when doing this? I want to order an SSD and get to work by the time my computer arrives.

    thanks

Yes, it is possible to put an SSD in one of the bays.
Although you are going to have to buy a hard drive caddy to secure it into the hard drive bay. I recommend a hardy drive caddy from NewModesUS.
I've personally bought one from them and it came really quick and was actually a quality product. The prices may seem to be high but remember it is a quality product and it costs less than the OEM one from HP, which costs $~60US.
By the way, there is no configuration required when you put the SSD in. It's pretty much like installing another HDD in your desktop.

Have had my dv7t for about a week now :) 8 gigs ram, i7 820 quad, 500 SSD (put this one in myself...SCREAMS fast), and that ugly fugly nvidia 320m.

    Things I LOVE:
Graphic designer/photographer. CS5 (yeah, I already have CS5 :D) programs load in less than 5 seconds.
Editing 1080p video from my canon 5dmk2 can be done in REAL TIME (LOVE THIS!)

    Things I hate:
The nvidia 320m. Honestly, putting this card in the computer is like taking the transmission of a ford fiesta and putting it in a ferrari.
The fact that when I use the volume slider, it minimizes whatever screen Im in (cant lower/raise volume while in games or in full screen video)

So...does anyone have any idea how I can disable the minimizing effect when I use the volume slider?

During sleep it runs around 90

Light use (web surfing, et. al.) about 120

    Playing a video file 135

Running WinTV (Live HDTV via Windows Media Center) 145

Those are Fahrenheit numbers NOT Centigrade (I'm American!).

    Im American as well...

    but in Fahrenheit,

browsing the web Im getting 158, 145, 149 and 147 using "HP Recommended" for power options (if that even matters)...

so yeah, Im definitely running high.

There is a way to remove the onscreen image of the volume bar while using the touch keys. doing this will prevent the screen from minimizing or pausing gameplay.

    GO TO START TYPE: MSCONFIG

    GO TO 'STARTUP'

SCROLL DOWN TO 'HP MediaSmart SmartMenu' make sure to remove the check mark hit apply then ok then restart computer and you should be good to go.

    enjoy!!

Your laptop is doing some tasks in the background as updating windows or virus scanning, a restart after it finishes updating will decrease the temperature.

Perhaps more than just the volume display on the screen?

Funny, I interned for Leibovitz for three months. Im what some call an open-minded conservative, and I loved working with her. But that's beside the point--Im sure all of us would appreciate you NOT hijacking this thread.

nothing that i have noticed. everything else seems to be working the same.
and if doing what i mentioned previouslydoes cause any issues, then you could always put the check mark back in place.
    so no harm no foul.

    Hi Guys,

When my dv7t is sleeping, it sometimes wakes up in a weird mode. I will have the cover closed, but I see the HP insignia light on.

I try to get the system respond, but it does not. I have to do a hard shut down by holding the power button down.

I checked in the BIOS and I don't see anything there about waking up on a LAN signal, etc.

I have other PCs on the network, but I assigned an IP address to make sure that there would be no conflicts. The router is occasionally turned off and then on again.

Why would my laptop wake up from sleep?

    Thanks,
    R

    i have a problem too fellers! :)

the laptop will crash randomly when i'm playing flash videos in firefox on full screen. out of the blue. the screen will go blank, the speakers will loop the last millisecond of sound, and nothing will respond except the mousepad on/off button. only option is a hard shutdown using the button.

i have reinstalled flash and firefox... this doesn't happen in vlc or wmp either.

it might be your video card's software. do a search for your video card and check if others are having the same problem with that card as well.
    good luck

I just received my new notebook. I have two words for the performance of this system with the i7... Stupid Fast! This thing is so freakin' fast it's stupid.

I've got file transfers going on in the background (over the eSATA link), music playing, Google Chrome open, and several different background applications open and this thing isn't even showing any signs of slowing down. It's like the system is telling me "Bring It". On my old Core 2 Duo notebook I'd have the system already slowing down but the i7 isn't even showing signs of slowing down.

this will stress your system (if setting 32 threads and maximum/very high stress level) and test its stability and thermal efficiency. if you get BSOD or throttled, it might not be a good sign.

those temps seem to be idle status rather than full load or stress tests. it's ok for those temps in idle status. if you could show CPU/GPU highest temps in stress tests, it would be more informative.

    Hey guys,
Anyone have a single hard drive dv7t? And if so, does it have a slot for a second hard drive? Or do I need to get a dual hard drive dv7t for that extra slot?

Have you installed the latest drivers for your GPU from HP, which is version 188.17?

As well, since you report that you have issues with youtube videos I would say to install the latest version of flash. Try Adobe Flash 10.1 Beta, which helps with hardware acceleration.

I have read through alot of this thread and noone seemed to mention anything about the battery life on the dv7t quad? The laptop I have now is a Toshiba and I have to say it has horrible battery life, however, after reading other discussions, it said this will happen if you live the laptop plugged in all the time. However, I purchased my dv7t about a week ago and it is expected to ship out this Monday, so I want to get all the information on it as I can before I open it so I know what to look for. Would you guys say that the dv7t has a good battery life? And would you give me any advice on how to make sure it lasts a long time (Like should I not keep it plugged in all the time)? I customized it to about $1500 and after all my rebates I still spent about $1200 the dv7t quad, so I want to make sure that I can get maximum life out of it!

I've found the battery life quite acceptable for as powerful of a machine as i have. If Im on Power Saver mode, I can get a good 2.5 hours if Im just doing basic stuff like browsing. I was able to play Modern Warfare 2 on battery on Performance mode for about an hour, too!

I also purchased a second battery, so I have realistically probably close to 6 hours of battery time!

after using the dv7t for a couple of days i started running into this problem that some of u are having while watching flash videos online, my screen would go blank and i would hear a buzzing sound and the only way to get out of this was to reboot by holding down the power batten or removing the battery, after this happening 4 or 5 times called HP but they were no help, the system came with Adobe Flash player 10 but after upgrading to the 10.1.51.95 (from labs.adobe.com) i stopped having this problem, which leads me to conclude that there is a problem with some of the versions of flash player, let me know if this helps...

I searched the thread but couldn't find this info...

I am looking to get a second power adapter for my dv7t quad. I thought I read that HP makes a 90 watt travel model that works fine with this model?

Any other options as well or places to get one cheap?

I will be ordering HP dv7t i7 from Ebay soon, it's been while since last time getting new pc. What should I use to run benchmark test on CPU and memory??

I like to run benchmark test for few days and make sure CPU and Memory are working before reimage with fresh Window 7 & new drivers.

    Thanks,

alright so I've run into a bit of a snag. The Brightness Fn (Fn+f7/f8) seems to have stopped functioning. The rest of the Fn's are all working, but it looks like when I try to change the brightness either manually with the slider or through the Fn button, its not doing diddly. Anyone have similiar issues?
