Has anyone updated to the new BIOS?
-
downloaded it but iam too waiting for the guinea pig to tell me how it went...
-
when ahead and did it so far so good going to check whether there are any goodies hiding in the bios menu
-
no new goodies ;(
-
Does anybody who knows why DV7t Quad still not offer white customize?i have already wait color for several months, HP offical cancel the white in Quad merchandise???
-
Just updated to the new BIOS. No problems so far.
-
Just updated my bios too. So far so good, reboot no problems.
Thanks for being guinea pigs guys.
It is supposed to improve fan performance, has anyone noticed a change or improvement? -
Doesn't do a darn thing for me. my fan is running 100% and my i7 820qm is downclocked to 1.5ghz with cpu temp of 65c idle...
-
BIOS F.1A seems to run much stable with improved fan control. HP responded fast regarding to BIOS fan issue on F.13.
-
just tested F.1A with intel burn test, max CPU/GPU temps are 80C/68C in a room temp of 23C. much lower than previous 96C with F.13. CPU/GPU idle at 47C/48C. HP engineers did a nice job.
as a comparison, two of asus N61JQ-A1 in my systems CPU/GPU idle at 59C(CPU)/65C(GPU) and 59C(CPU)/58C(GPU) in same room. the lower idle GPU temp machine is the RMA replacement. -
hey guys,
any idea how well i7 720QM + GT 320M, can play games like GTA4?
how stable is the GPU?
thanks! -
Hello all.... my dv7t quad can't wake up from sleep... the power comes on, but nothing on the screen, no disk activity.
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks,
R -
Alright, this is what you do.
Remove any and all sources of power, this includes AC Adapter and battery. Open the notebook and press the power button for ten seconds, release for five seconds, then press the power button down for ten seconds. Do this about five times. This will do a "soft reset" on the motherboard.
Now, put the battery back in then the AC Adapter. Try to power it on as normal. -
It hasn't happened again.
This used to be an issue like 3-4 years ago with Microsoft's sleep driver. -
HP Battery Check?????
Has anyone run into this?
I run the HP Battery Check from the "Dock" and it says
"battery needs to be calibrated"
it then says to completely drain the battery and recharge it.
Well, I have done that and it still says the same thing - needs to be calibrated......
whats up with all that?????? -
Silly question, but how do I go about upgrading my bios?
-
HP provides BIOS downloads that you simply run and it will update the BIOS for you. Make sure you have a stable power source before updating the BIOS. Also, don't touch the machine while it is updating it unless it tells you to do so.
-
Unfortunately I uninstalled the majority of the HP bloatware, including the auto update utility. Where/how can I get it back?
-
Make sure your unit is plugged in -
which brings me back to my original question...where/how do I get the update?
-
HP Support & Drivers -
Alright so I'm at the HP update page and NONE of the download's are actually initiating. It might be the router that my campus is behind, but could someone check for me to see if it's just me?
For example:
HP Support Assistant Download
When I click download, it just sits there...nothing downloads :-/ -

How do I start Media Center in my HP running Win 7 Home Premium? It suppose to be part of the program, but I can't find how to start it. What am I missing?
Update: A senior moment. Found it in the Music Program folder, also in a Gadget. -
those with the "intel wireless N card', can you please tell me the exact card name and details.
Thanks! -
I got it to wake from sleep once, and I thought I fixed it by changing whether or not it would require a logon upon waking up under the power settings.
I have the latest BIOS and drivers, and I can't imagine what is going on right now.
So no one else has any problems waking from sleep, eh?

I think it has something to do with the BIOS. I used the powercfg /energy command and saw some warnings.
A few of these;Platform Power Management Capabilities:ACPI _PSD Object Failed Validation
There is a problem with the definition of the ACPI _PSD object on this computer. Installing the latest system firmware (BIOS) may resolve this issue.
(probably not a problem on a laptop
Platform Power Management CapabilitiesCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer.
Platform Power Management Capabilities:Supported Sleep States
Sleep states allow the computer to enter low-power modes after a period of inactivity. The S3 sleep state is the default sleep state for Windows platforms. The S3 sleep state consumes only enough power to preserve memory contents and allow the computer to resume working quickly. Very few platforms support the S1 or S2 Sleep states.
S1 Sleep Supported false
S2 Sleep Supported false
S3 Sleep Supported true
S4 Sleep Supported true
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Does anyone have a link to the older F13 BIOS. Maybe the F1.A BIOS screwed things up.
Thanks,
R -

Simply go to HP.com, click on Support & Drivers, type your model in, select "Download drivers and software (and firmware)", and then click "Go." Once you it you will be referred to a page with a series of supported OSs for that computer, click the most recent that is supported and the type of OS (32 vs. 64 bit). You will then find the BIOS update as one of the listed downloads.

I've run into yet another snag thats starting to become a pester. Every now and then, my computer freezes at startup right when it hits the desktop, and I have to hard-restart. I checked the event viewer and I see no issues or errors popping up, so I'm baffled. Anyone have any idea how I can resolve this?
Also, when I go into Task Manager>Performance, under the Physical Memory I see my 8 gigs of ram listed under Total memory, but only 5.3gigs AVAILABLE and 3.7 free...is this correct? -
You should consider using an earlier restore point - perhaps you installed something that is now causing problems? New drivers, etc?
Once in safe mode you should also check your hard drive.
Don't worry about the RAM for now...Windows manages the RAM by filling it up with things it thinks you are going to need, and the numbers don't always make sense.

R -
Apparently my system restore wont go back farther than a week...somehow it magically was disabled. Is there any way i can get a log from bootup? And this doesnt happen when I boot into Safe Mode, only normally booting up.
-
Did you try that restore point?
If you did and it did not work, I would start uninstalling recent items. It sounds like software or a driver that is misbehaving.
Are you able to go to the task manager to look for hung up processes (say pegged at 100% or not responding)?
R -
When it boots frozen, I'm not able to do a single thing--its just frozen entirely.
-
I'd consider doing hardware diagnostics right about now.
-
How do I go about doing that?
-
Have you guys loaded up everything that the HP Support Assistant has suggested?
I am especially interested to find out if the Intel IMSM stuff UEFI diagnostics apps loaded ok.
Will the CJ2X chipset stuff have any implications if I allow the update?
R -
Heres a screen cap of the issue I mentioned having with the memory; any insight as to why Im yielding such low performance?

Hi,
With this new $500 off coupon I'm thinking of getting a brand new dv7 quad.
i have a few questions though. To people who have been using it for a few months now: how are the temperatures? is the dust buildup causing greater temps/performance reduction, because these vents do not look too solid.
The other question is: which cooling pad would you recommend - which one is best for dv7?
Regards,
m -
Ive been using the DV7T for about a month and a half now and while I had a brief period of some heating issues, I managed to solve them with updated drivers. My temps run at a high average of 54c when under stress(lightroom/ps CS5/Illustrator CS5/multiple instances of FF running simultaneously), and a normal average of low to mid 40's when just browsing. I recommend you download CPUID hardware monitor if/when you get your comp, helps keep a detailed eye.

hey guys
i recently had this very laptop stolen from me and after i reported it to the police i realized i do not have any record of its serial number at home.
could someone please give me the generic format/template SN for the dv7t quads? i guess it's the best i can do and could still be of some help to me
it's the white version with no blu-ray if that makes any difference... -

temps ???
are these too hot ??
surfing the web for 2 hours

Hey guys,
Just received the dv7t quad edition. Already, had two random reboots the first day, the first one, wasn't near the computer, came back to it and it was at the login screen when it should've been on the desktop and after logging in got a message stating windows unexpectedly shutdown and see if you can find a solution...(windows 7). The 2nd time was sitting in front of it, wasn't doing anything on the comp, just on desktop, and bam...BSOD, and then countdown and auto rebooted. same message once logging in.
So far, I've updated Bios, graphics, and audio drivers after I noticed the first reboot. any ideas on what could be causing this? Looks like there was a member named Felix who had the same issue on a dv7 much earlier in this thread. Thanks again.
***edit: model # is dv7t-3300, its 12:42pm CST here and the two reboots have occured this morning. Also, using HWMonitor, CPU is idling at 48, and GPU idling at 43.
***update, left machine running all day yesterday, no reboots. installed adobe flash successfully, shut it down around 1am. booted up to the diags now, and running the Run-In Test, passed all so far, but just letting it run.
Thanks again to anyone who has any ideas, I appreciate it. -
I havent been in this thread for a while. For those who want to run linux, the latest version of Ubuntu (10.04 Lucid Lynx , & Linux Mint which is wat i'm running now), run very smoothly.
Just a heads up.
Sorry if this was mentioned b4.
Cheers. -
I'm looking for a way to extend the power on this. I'm planning a 6 hour car trip and want to listen to some videos off my laptop. (I'd rather use my phone, but DRM won't let me.)
I have a 100 watt power inverter that I used with my old laptop. That wasn't a problem since it was only a 90 watt charger. The dv7t is 120 watt. So I either need to find a higher powered inverter, or an extended battery. Any ideas?
Thanks
