Up until yesterday, whenever I touched the sound adjustment bar (above the keyboard), a little blue slider would appear on the monitor showing my adjustment. Now whenever I boot up my computer, it's on full blast and when i go to adjust the sound level back down using that bar, the slider no longer appears. I know I can click on the speakers/headphones icon in the taskbar to adjust sound level, but it was so nice before to see the slider right on the monitor.
Just today I updated the IDT sound driver, but that didn't solve the problem.
Any ideas what might have happened to that little blue slider bar on screen?

I'm a long time "lurker" first time "poster" so if I'm not posting this correctly, please advise...
I have a Dv8t and when I went to order mine, HP was no longer offering the BD-RE drive. I elected NOT to buy the BD-Rom and just use my external. However, I am wondering if I can find one of the internal burners and add it myself. I have swapped internal optical drives in laptops in the past.
Can anyone tell me the model of their internal burner?
Thanks guys! -
-
Am I missing something?
I cannot find the drive on the website, and I've been unable to get any help from HP on the subject.
I'm hoping to find out what model was available, so I can try and track one down.
Thanks! -

So yesterday my computer yelled at me to upgrade my tv tuner driver, and now it doesn't work, yet there is nothing to roll back to. w t f happened?

So new update on the issue, computer continues to BSOD regardless of fan setting. Appears whenever video is played used, BSOD's, so I will be RMA'ing it as it is within 21 days of the ship date.

Alright the nvidia 320 is clearly not anything nearly fast enough to run games at a decent frame rate, even with the i7 820 and 8 gigs ram...so what are my options?
-
Otherwise you'd have to get a gaming notebook with an enthusiast level GPU. -
So you're telling me theres not a GPU that will fit?
-
-
Upgraded to the 197.something but had some freezing issues on startup so I cleaned house and went to the official "updated" HP drivers(188.17)
-
Just wanted to add that I can hardly run GTA4 on this computer at any setting, where I could at run it on medium on my old Alienware Aurora m9700 with 2 gigs ram, and 256mb 7800 and a MUCH slower processor. Whuthefuh's up?
-
Not to insult you, but what do you have for the power setting? Especially Processor power management... passive cooling will do strange things when you least expect it.
-
The only way to upgrade you GPU is to upgrade to the motherboard that has the better GPU. But since you already have the best GPU offered for the DV7, you're stuck. -
-
I think your setup should play it.

Hi guys I just got a:
"HP Pavilion dv7t-3300 CTO | Quad Edition Intel Core i7-720QM 1.6GHz| 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM | 500GB 7200 rpm HDD | 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 320M | Win7 Home Premium x64 | "
The thing is this notebook runs very hotto me, with msn messenger, winamp, word and Internet Explorer (HP Recomended Settings), HWMonitor shows the Core temperatures around 65C - 70C (150F) and when using some rare heavy program it reached 90C, I havent gamed with it yet and have the latest Bios (F.1B A) and updates.
The fan runs very quiet but I suppose it's capable of more I wouldnt mind listening to it working harder to cool down the computer...
Are this temperatures normal? I mean what are your experiencies with the DV7t-3300 Quad? I dont really know if I got a defective unit or it is normal with this model. -
What was your ambient temperature?
-
Around 30 C, Im looking for a way to make the fan spin faster or something, I believe the dv7t-3300 is the newest model an maybe thats why the heating issue has not been solved yet?
Someone at this forum said he had heating issues as well but solve them with updates, it worked for his 3000 model but it hasnt worked for mine (3300) unfortunately -

A little off-topic.
Does anyone own a truck/auto laptop mount?
This DV7t might be a little large for a mount, and too expensive to be stolen, so I am looking to get a DV3 or 4.
Some of these mounts look questionable. The RAM corp is looking good, but the tray is a rather large thickness profile. Direct me to a different forum if this is just plain wrong! -
Great news! nVidia is officially releasing video card drivers for the 320M graphics card.

So im a happy owner
of a Dv7t 4gb 500gb 1gb 320m blueray (worthless) tv tuner. Best laptop ive owned hands down. For the gamers out there that have asked a lot of questions and never get a answer (ive read hundreds of pages) It does great. Ive been able to play Dirt 2 med. high graphics which it auto configs flawless looking, better then my console 360 and Flight Sim x almost maxed out with no problems. Props to hp. Ill also report no keyboard pop, dead pixels, ect. Feels solid. My only complaint, didnt get the white
but at 850$, who can ? Thanks for the reviews guys, you steered me in the right direction clearly.

Anybody out there noticing scratchy noises coming out of their subwoofer? Seems to be constant and independent of any sound applications. Music and voice play just fine, but when nothing is playing and all is quiet, the scratchy noise is audible and seems to oscillate in volume. Don't know whether this additional quirk is related but when I arrow up and down through 200 Ebay listings on a long page, I can hear a similar but not identical noise that mimics the type of humming you get on the radio when trying to tune in a channel, NOT static but humming.

Nevermind, downloading now. Really hope to god they do some good.

Has anybody seen what has come up on Bestbuy's website?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pa...09269830&skuId=1016548#tabbed-customerreviews
This dv7 comes in an aluminum case with the same speaker placement as the envy17, looks like same mouse pad as the envy17, looks like same keyboard as the envy 17. How did BB get this system configured with a single 1TB hdd? For $1299 You can't get that on any HP CTO system? And it tallys to $1599 comparably configured at HP direct. -
Your link didn't work -
try this one:

There are new drivers for the 230M.

I just want to say how displeased I am with the gaming capabilities of this machine with the nvidia 320m. I cant run anything current, where as my 4 year old alienware rig with a geforce 7800 256mb card could run BFBC2 at least on minimal settings. This rig has more than double the power but half the performance on a gaming standpoint.

Hey all,
Question. In the past, I've always hooked my laptop up to my TV video S-Video to watch movies on the TV. As you know, the dv7t doesn't have s-video output. Can someone suggest how I can output video to my TV? Please don't say HDMI because I am currently using that for an external monitor. Do I have any other options?
Thanks -
i do not find gaming to be bad at all, i have the 230M card. I am running Mass Effect 2, silent hunter 5, total war empire, and crysis. frame are acceptable and all bells and whistles are on.
-
Just wanted to share a pleasant experience I had using this machine yesterday... working on converting all the old VHS home movies onto DVD.
Feeding home movies on the VCR into the Pinnacle Dazzle device hooked to a USB port... capturing the VHS feed in highest quality on the laptop WHILE watching the video output via HDMI on the LCD TV
Also had a question - can the BluRay ROM drive write dual layer DVDs? -
Some TV's have VGA inputs, you might be able to try that. I'm not sure if it will output the video on VGA and HDMI simultaneously, though... -
-
New question. Does the dv7 have TV-out capabilities? Meaning, will THIS Amazon.com: VGA to S-Video / RCA Adaptor: Electronics work? They say the computer needs TV-out or it won't work - even if it does have VGA out.

Like asus g73jh??? -
no but have been trying to find out how.... setfsb hasnt worked for me
-
I am new on this forum so pls guide me..any help
i`ll be buying an
hp pavilion dv7t 3300 cto , core i7 720 , 4gb ddr3 , 320gb HDD , gt 230m
i have a choice of two models tell me which one is best and don`t have overheating issues and runs cool DV7T 3300-CTO & DV7T 3157-CA which one is best ?
My concern is
1_will it get overheating problems..?
2_i will run it plugged 24/7 its good or bad..?
3_which intel MB chipset its has..?
I`ll be using this for maya and realflow so pls guide me ...pls coz i am purchasing it tomorrow so if any body knows than it`ll be great..! -
No problem running it plugged 24/7. I don't know the difference between those models so i can't comment. Core i7 seems to be reliable so i would say it will run well if you keep it clean and airflow can work well. Note that a CPU at 100% can go to 80-90ºC.
-
Thanks for the reply Bullit pls tell me how to set processor stay in clean condition also tell me how to monitor the cpu and hdd temps..also tell me that if i plug it 24/7 with battery in it does it harms its overall life...and if i play about 7 hrs of hardcore games does it get overheated or runs cool i am also planning to buy a cooling pad from TARGUS ...pls do reply ..!
-
It is the vents that should be clean. Use HWmonitor to know the temps, clean if you see it's getting hotter than normal.
-
thanks.......... also tell me the idle temps of cpu..which one are idle..i`ve just installed HWmonitor pls tell me which temps are cool for CPU..c or f ................c is less than f so which is to be considered..?
-
I've had this model for almost a year now. I've always detested the screen with it's washed out black levels and horrible viewing angles. Has anyone attempted replacing the LCD with some other after-market one? If so can you recommend a source and a model number?
I got my dv7t quad when they first came out. Did HP start using a better screen at some point or all they all pretty bad?
Thanks,
Scott
