Yahooooooooo
I have my desktop finally. It was easy to setup and is working good.
Overall a good machine.
Thanks guys for the support during delay. -

My (daughter's) dv2000t arrived this afternoon. Nobody was home, but I taped an envelope to the door with a signed note allowing the delivery person to leave the package, and he/she did. So now I'm going to fire it up, and get rid of some bloatware, and install a few security programs. Then I can play around with it for a day or two before she comes home and takes it back to school. I'm trying to decide if I really want a notebook for myself, the reason I came to these forums in the first place.
-
But there are numerous pre-installed programs by HP...I don't know if I should get rid of them or leave them. They are eating memory though.. -
I just run them for a week or so first. Eletronics usually fail early on if at all and I don't want to do all the work only to have it go back.
I usually do not install programs or email settings and info until I have ran it for 2 weeks. Day and night with a few over noght shut downs here and there and lots of restarts.
But if you got to have it to online banking bill pay becaiuse you already took the old one down you gotta do what you gotta do. -
Well mine finally shipped! I got an email today from costco. Supposedely it shipped yesterday morning yet the only details it lists is:
Mar 12, 2007 11:42 AM
Left origin
SHANGHAI CN
10:33 AM
Picked up
SHANGHAI CN
Package received after FedEx cutoff
Doh. I would have hoped if it shipped yesterday morning it would be further than that. Maybe they just didn't update yet. -
Hey Divine,
Congrats on finally getting it!
I ran with the Vista on mine for about 3 hours and totally gave up on it. I trully hated the fact that it came preinstalled with Yahoo toolbar (I perfer Google's toolbar). I could not for the life of me find Add/Remove Programs under control panel. Then I had problems creating a WinXP SATA Driver floppy disk since by default Vista denies access to the FDD.
I'm not bashing the machine...just Vista. My partner (who is a Machead) jokes about how Vista is trying to mimic Mac's OS. Well after actually playing with Vista...I now agree with him. But if I wanted a Mac OS, then I would have bought a Mac!
Anyways...Have fun with your shiny new Mac (err..PC) Divine! -
its stupid, but in Vista, the "Uninstall Program" option is in the "nice" categorized view rather than the older style Control Panel view.
-
Hey dfinctec!!
Yeah it was a long long delay. But anyways..
I was able to uninstall yahoo toolbar (i like google toolbar too) and other things that I didnt like. Also I removed programs from "startup programs" which included lot of stuffs from HP.
If I remember correctly this is the way:
Go to my computer > on top you will see add remove programs > click it > give it some time to populate all programs > just right click at yahoo toolbar and uninstall.
If it doesnt work give me some time as I am at office and my desktop is at home. I will give more details once I am on my vista machine.
Also, for removing program from startup:
go to windows defender > click tools > software explorer > in category choose startup programs > then click all users next to "refresh" if you have more than one user like I have > then chose programs like google talk and "remove" them
But I would suggest let it run for a week and then go ahead change settings. ..till then you/me will get used to the interface...and can play with personalized settings more easily without messing the machine.
As far as comparison with Mac..this is a long battle and depends on individual perspective..it is like PS3 vs. XBOX 360. I have used Mac but find myself more productive on PC and I have to use lots of softwares and windows updates always come faster for them.
And man what about PC games?? I love'em. -
Also I will put a pic of my setup soon in this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=86278 -
ok I just checked on my machine.
In place of "add or remove program" it is "uninstall or change a program".
The 4th option horizontally when you open my computer..just below the address bar. -
I custom-ordered mine on March 4th and it arrived at my dad's house today, March 13th.
-
-
You guys made out lucky! I ordered mine on the 4th, and it shipped yesterday but is not estimated to arrive until the 15th. The wait's killing me! Last update is that it left Anchorage. It's not even at customs yet.

Less than a week from China to my door. DV6000t
-
I think Homeland Secuirty is playing with mine in Indy.. or it left its papers back in china.. sigh - right now my Dv6000z is an undocumented alien.. but it gets better care than I do!

Estimated ship date is 3/23/2007. Does that mean I will get it by then or it will have just left the factory then? -
It took 9 days form my DV2000T from ordering 3/3 to it being in my front door 3/12
-
Are you sure about the 512MB RAM? I suspect you are not going to be pleased with the performance. I would think the sales rep would try and talk you into at least 1GB. It clearly states 1GB RAM minimum is recomended to run Vista Premium.
Please report your findings. -
-
Where do you get 2 1GB sticks for $100? Share with us! The cheapest I've seen was around $139.99.
-
I'm just buying from a friend. Sorry.

Anyone know how long laptops are usually in production? I'm anxious to get my new laptop!!!
-
The Chinese 14 day holiday essed up some of the earlier shipmemts you can read about here.
Fret not! -
-
So my order FINALLY shipped today (a week of agony I tell you) from China. How long do you think it will take to get to Texas using 5 - 7 day shipping? I remember that my previous laptop got here in only 2 days after shipping with the free 5-7 day shipping rate; does HP still have really fast shipping? Also, I've heard about some clearance delays in Indianapolis, have those been resolved?
Man, I can't WAIT! -
You will have it the day after it leaves Indianna. First Alaska, then Indianna customs, then your house. -
Still very anxious waiting for my new laptop. Scheduled to arrive Tuesday by 10:30AM but I'm hoping for Monday!

This is my first laptop purchase so I really do not know how long it normally takes for companies to make laptops but does it really take 2 weeks and 2 days to make a laptop (the built by date is 2 weeks and 2 days after order placed)?
edit - odd how when i checked the built by date for ordering today (the same model, I was curious) is 2 days earlier than an order last tuesday... -
-
Still, they should not be shipping (or planning to) ship notebooks built after yours before yours. Maybe there is a Chinese holiday going on to delay things? -
Mine was late and I got emails after I inquired indicating it would be no more than 10 days from the original stated delivery date.
Now, if it is late be sure and send an email in the day before or so asking about the status. Be sure and indicate softly how it is an inconvenience.
You should get a reply and a coupon for $50.00 good at their on line sales for your inconvenience.
I used mine to get a really nice light weight carry CASE for a few dollars. The case was better than expected and with a very nice no slip shoulder strap pad. -
Hmm...I ordered a printer with it because of the whole $80 rebate (and off a $80 printer = free) but you need information from both the printer and hp shipments and to send it in by April 7th. Hopefully either the computer ships soon or they let me send the printer back/don't charge us for it. C'mon HP, ship that laptop!
-
-
-
If your Estimated Delivery Date has passed and you have not received your rig, call HP and you might get lucky like some in here that got $50 or more credit on the HP shopping website.
-
I edited the original post above tweety's (noticed some grammar errors made it sound differently).
-
This thread helped me get through the wait for receiving my dv6000t - so many thanks for the people who contributed!
I ordered mine on F 3/23. The original ship date was for 4/3. It really shipped on Th 3/29, with a scheduled delivery of 4/3. I ended up receiving it M 4/2! The route it took was China - to Anchorage- to Oakland, CA - Denver (me!).
Was pleasantly surprised by how fast it took. -
. I still don't know why if the estimated built by date for me is the same as someone who were to order the laptop 1 week later. I think HP hates me.
-

My tale is slightly different; it's a tale of warranty service rather than the purchase of a new notebook.
I bought a (low end bare bones) Compaq V5105 last April for about $600. Near the end of 2006, it started acting up (not powering up, usb not working, etc.). After many irritating emails back and forth with tech support (now HP), I shipped my notebook back to them in January.
The expected ship date (to come back to me) came and went. After many non-helpful exchanges (with folks who had no idea of the status of my machine), they finally stated that whatever part they were waiting for (a motherboard, I suspect) might take until May to come in. At this point, they offered to replace my computer for my troubles.
My old v5105 came with no DVD, 512Mb RAM, 2 Ghz mobile Sempron 3300+ with 128k L2 cache, 2 usb ports, no firewire, etc.
The new computer (dv6000t) I negotiated is as follows:
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
200GB 4200RPM SATA Hard Drive
LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
HP Expresscard TV Tuner for Windows Vista Notebook
High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Better graphics, better cpu, more L2 cache, more usb ports, firewire, much bigger hard drive, much more RAM, dvd, built-in bluetooth, tv tuner with remote, high capacity battery, built-in mic and webcam, etc.
They submitted the build order April 10. I'm anxiously awaiting this thing.
The replacement computer is worth about $1000 more than the original computer. Score!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
They submitted the order April 2. Sorry about that. I can't wait to get home from work and look for a FedEx tag. -
Something went wrong with the USB ports and BIOS errors kept coming up. I sent in my laptop in January as well and I finally had to contact them regarding the status. They told me the motherboard was on backorder until May. Finally, they set me up with a case manager, who then asked if I would just like a new computer. ABOUT TIME!
They ordered the computer on the 28th, and it's in Anchorage, AK right now and is scheduled to arrive by 5:00pm tommorow. I'm so excited!
The new specs are:
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-60(2.0GHz/1MB)
15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
2GB DDR2 (2 Dimm)
FREE Upgrade from 80GB 5400RPM to 120GB 5400RPM !!
LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
802.11a/b/g WLAN and Bluetooth
HP Expresscard TV Tuner for Windows Vista Notebook
High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Mobile Stereo Earbud Headphones (1 pair)
- System Recovery DVD w/Windows Vista Home Premium
Good thing I had a desktop computer to get me through this semester of school!
I have to say, my experience with HP support has been terrible, but I can't complain with this deal!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
And the answer is:
* order placed April 2
* shipment received April 11
Nine days (seven business days) for my custom dv6000t!
I've only scratched the surface in checking it out but so far I love it. It has damned near everything you could ask for in the 6000 series.
