Its actlly i5-430

Yhea.... that's what I meant -
-
Yeah I'm interested in how he was able to do that too, since I am days away from purchasing this laptop from them.
Also would you reccomend the express shipping with the RMA coverage?
I dont think its necessary. -
-
Pricematched at 1430, expresse shipping for like 8$ + 5%GST.
There's the link for pricematching ,
And yes ordering from Canada(would have customized it from HP site otherwise) -
Umm for those who have shipped it from the US, how did you get HP to accept your credit card? I read that you have to change something before. Is it the address? If so, do you use the address of the place you're shipping it to?
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I bought my laptop with a US credit card, and mailed it to a US address. I didn't do anything special except bring it across the border myself
-
is there a way to change your paypal into a US one or tell the credit card company to make it us or something? My dad's buying it with his so I don't really know details about credit cards
-
Anyways, congrats on your purchase, I'm sure you will love this laptop as much as I do -
Did your second one not have the fan issue? Mine definitely does and it's driving me nuts!
-
I just got confirmation that the laptop reached the ebay guy, computerupgradeking and got a note that they're shipping it, eta august 17, approximately 20 days after I ordered, definitely not too shabby considerring the price

I bought it at NCIX since I live in Vancouver, but they have a terrible return policy. I didn't even get it at 1430 like another user instead paying 1501+tax.
I installed the latest bios firmware and i think it is a bit better, but definitely not perfect. I find the fan very noisy relative to the laptop it was suppose to be replacing. Pre-latest firmware it also seemed to be running way too hot at idle.
Can you check what version of the bios yours is running? I wonder if later builds had a different version. I'm hoping this isn't a mechanical issue... -
I've attached cpu spike picture. I imagine this is what your original laptop faced. Does the replacement not suffer from these spikes?

Just a question for all owners of the 1050ca. What is the battery life like? Do they give you the slice battery with this model?
-
And also is it 100% confirmed that it is indeed a Radiance display that is being used in this model (aside from the box, is there any way of knowing?). Thanks!
-
is that a mistake? -
Yep it is, many users have reported this fact on the forum.
I'll confirm it when i receive mine( expected delivery 17/08... yeah that's today!). -
-
k um quick question. How did everyone here pay for their US shipped Envy? Assuming that the bulk of you are from Canada, what did you do as a work around for the fact that HP only takes US credit cards and paypal?
-
I have a family friend down in the States who agreed to pay for it using their credit card. They're coming up to visit, so they'll just bring it with them, and I'm paying them back when they get up here. Pretty fortunate...

Thanks! -

I'm guessing you're in your 2nd or 3rd year of UNI? I once was looking into Medschool Admissions myself, lol. Good luck with your journey! -
Ugh . My envy finally arrived today while I was at work(I still am) and according to my brother it came with the ty brightview screen, not the radiance. I'll try and get it sorted out once I get home but the fact that they charged me 1099 and gave me he screen they got for 999 pisses me off. Especially now when I found that the radiance display might be low on stock is killing me.
Edit: Problem solved, scroll down. -
official new owner of a brand spankin new envy 14 from futureshop.....and BOOM it a radiance display. says it right on the box. HP is SO stupid to not update this, but bah....im soo happy and excited right now.
i love how nice this thing is -
Congrats on the purchase. It's a beautiful machine isn't it? lol.
-
you think it needs a clean install? hmm -
Just got mine, isn't working and HP Canada is sending me a box to send it in for repair... Won't have my laptop for school.
I'm like so sad right now xD -

oh yeah so i didnt mention to you guys but i actually picked one up last night and it was damaged out of the box (even though it was fully sealed). It had huge gaps, like someone had taken a flatheat and tried to pry it open and had scratches on the paisely design as well.
the screen hinge has a small chip on the left corner and it looked like someone tried to paint the chipped part silver after wards. I took it back without even starting er up. When i got the exchanged unit this morning thats when i got a good unit and decided to let u all know. -
Hello everyone!
I just read from some of you in this thread that the HP Envy 14-1050ca does come with a Radiance display with a resolution of 1600x900.
Can you confirm me this?
All websites I found selling it including NCIX states that it comes with a 1366x768 display...
Thanks! -
-
Cheers! -
LOL GUYS....this has turned out to be phenomenal
the envy from futureshop dropped in price by 150 today and it comes with a BRAND NEW XBOX FOR FREEEE MUAHAHAHA
i went in, got back my difference and got a freeeee xbox 360, the NEW one too. -
Grats man! This offers at least some compensation to price they are charging.
And if you can get the Xbox to sell online for over $100 (presuming you can) this then beats any Canadian retailers pricematch atm! -
-
i know this may sound bad, but i do not believe in paying for software -
I just picked up the Envy 14 from my local futureshop and it does have the 1600x900 screen! The screen is awesome, and HD videos look AND sound great with the beats audio. Although the FS website is says it has the low res screen, it does actually have the high res screen as other posters have noted. I also got the Xbox which I will be selling since I'll be doing the gaming on this machine.
-
I also confirm the Radiance display in the envy 14-1050ca...BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Got mine from Future Shop as well and the free Xbox 360 (loving Assassin's Creed II). My only gripe, the french canadian keyboard takes a couple days to get used to. -
Yeah, I just got my Envy from Futureshop too
I too confirm the screen resolution
It would have been nice if it was an i5 450, but meh, this is good enough
-
Any of you guyes having the fan noise problem along with the CPU whine issue? Planning on buying from Best Buy
