I've attempted to use this guide for my Sager NP5791, which has the same SATA chipset as this guide uses. It worked, sort of. Upon rebooting after the initial install it said it couldn't detect the hard drive again, stating "Hardware failure...etc". I did some more poking around and found this site:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

It appears there are newer SATA drivers then the ones you include in your package. I haven't tried them to see if they work for me, but it's good FYI.

if its the same chipset and SATA as our notebooks, then it should have worked no problem, regardless of whether there is a newer version or not.

    try this link:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

but youll have to install that after you install Windows XP.

it doesnt make sense to keep reburning a Windows XP CD when new SATA drivers come out. thats why the older drivers are slipstreamed (and they work just fine) and later updated simultaneously while the chipset is being installed.

did you select the correct driver during the slipstream process?

When I install XP on my dv9500t, I'm thinking I don't want to install the QuickLaunch/QuickPlay software (as I posted previously -- I think the QuickLaunch/QuickPlay button is too sensitive to the touch). But if I don't install that, can I still get my volume control and volume mute buttons to work? Or are they all part of the same thing?

Also, are *all* the steps (and updates/alterations to them) discussed in this thread now a part of Post #1 with all the instructions? If not, is there any easy way to find those updated instructions without reading the entire thread? :)

    Thanks!

Not all buttons work.. Maybe they can somehow be programmed to be used in other programs like Media Portal...

Thanks for the guide, I just downgraded to XP and DAM its way faster and more stable than vista. It also runs wayyyyy cooler (less hotter), runs much quieter (fans don't go crazy anymore) and the battery life increased by about 2-5% so I'm very happy with my downgrade.

No, the Quicklaunch buttons have their own driver, which is necessary to get any of the buttons working (including volume and mute). I actually found the driver for mine off the HP website, its one of the few they make for XP. At the moment you dont have the choice to install QuickPlay anyway because it doesn't work under XP.

The quick play buttons driver will give you play/stop, next, previous, mute and volume in XP. Those on the left (quickplay, dvd) is for quickplay and do not work in XP.

quickplay and quicklaunch are two different things. with quicklaunch, you can get your play/pause, forward, volume, etc. buttons to work.

the first post is updated with major findings.

    correction: you mean upgrade ;)

Just a small doubt... will this guide work for a compaq lappy bought recently (not sure of the model no.. its a friend's). My friend has requested me to help him make a downgrade from vista to xp in the new compaq he bought a week ago.. So is it possible..?? I'll be making it a dual boot machine.

I just checked it and didn't see any change. Is it possible to call out the changes with a different color? (Or list what the changes are here?)

    Thanks!

First of all I want to thank the topic starter for this great guide.
But I could use some more help atm :(
I installed XP a few weeks ago but I seem to have random Blue Screens of death followed by a reboot. No way for me to see the exact error because my PC reboots way to fast. What could this be ?

i dont know if i can solve your problem. this thread is primarily about installing XP, not solving BSoD's as a result of installing XP on your computer.

im going to bet that it is a driver issue, thats why you posted here.

boot into safe mode (hold F8 key before the Windows XP boot screen comes up, select Safe Mode), and go into your "system properties". click on the "advanced" tab, then click on "settings" under "start up and recovery". uncheck "restart automatically"

    ----

as for updates, they are included in the OP, i didnt colorize them or anything.
i have finals for the next two weeks

oh about the BSoD's note down the error numbers you get and please post them here.

also please install Everest and list your hardware name and model #s if you can.
also post where u got the drivers from (whether you got them from here or else where)

the drivers from here and from Robvia's site are known to work with these laptops.

i just remembered something. you can go into your System Events and find out the error code too, but you have to search and have to know where to look ;)

I tried to integrate the driver in nlite but it display a message which contains

    Error!

Incorrect parameter. However this driver may still work.

and successfully burns the data in the CD.

when i tried to boot the computer using the cd it says iastor.sys is corrupted. setup cannot continue.

what should i do ?

Also, is there any difference at all between these two downloads?

    i think you slipstreamed wrong.
go back into nlite, and make sure you choose "multiple driver folder" and choose the folder in which iastor.sys is located. then choose the mobile ich8m driver.

    hey thanks man.

there is no difference between the two files. they are located on two different locations because some people could not access the megaupload site (due to national restrictions in their country, or work restrictions at their place of employment)

Fantastic directions. Here's what I did, maybe it'll give some people a bit more help. I forgot to save a digital copy of my Everest report originally, so I typed out what I thought to be important. Some of the steps originally outlined in mujjuman's directions either didn't apply, didn't even exist as an option, or I just opted to skip. Also, I installed a few extra things (the AMD Processor update and BIOS update). So far everything is working perfectly (device manager is completely clean, no exclamations), I'll post if any changes occur. One thing interesting however...apparently I gained an additional 128 MB of video memory for my GeForce 6150 after XP was installed...any ideas why this happened?

Again, much thanks to mujjuman's and Hackez.

EDIT: I originally had a picture of my filetree where I kept my drivers...but it was too big and I'm too lazy to resize. Here is the url: http://image.bayimg.com/hainiaaba.jpg

    hello, i have a problem with mi dv2500 (dv2621la)
    it's a pentium dual core 1.46ghz, 2gb ram,120gb hd

I've followed the guides and succesfully installed winxp, but there's an exclamation sign next to "conexant setup api" in the device manager. sound works (some stuttering) and a couple of times I got BSOD at the "welcome screen".

    I don't know what i'm doing wrong.

    hope you can help me

My CD already had SP2, and I didn't need to slipstream anything else into it.

Most of my steps differed simply because I had completely different drivers. I'll outline them anyways:

-Didn't have to install Intel Matrix Storage Manager Drivers (probably because of AMD, I don't even know what this does).

-I had no Realtek drivers, and had no need to install any extra ethernet drivers (they were installed with the chipset drivers).

    -Had no WDM drivers.

-Skipped modem drives altogether (had no use for them).

-Accidentally rebooted after installing Synaptics, though no problems arose.

-Did not have to update HP Integrated Module.

-Did not have to update PCI Device under System (didn't even have this device listed, though my webcam works perfectly).

-In the end I had 3 unknown hardware exclamation points but after a reboot they disappeared.

I can upload the same file directory I had in my original post somewhere if anyone needs.

Did you get any kind of hardware printout of your components? I noticed some of the drivers differed greatly between models, even if they are in the same series (especially true for my older notebook). It might just be a bad driver install.

you are not following the directions completely. you have to go here:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3195733&os=228&lang=en
and install the driver for your laptop. i hope you did not install any not-applicable drivers. make sure you uninstall all drivers that do not apply to the dv2500 model

thats because you have a dv2000 not a dv2500. the process is much easier for you

rofl. because most of the answers are right there, if im not mistaken. i know the guide is really long though, but if you follow it step by step then its worth it.

anyway, if i could, i would make the disk for them and install it for them too, they just have to be in the same area as me :p

sometimes i feel as if thats the only answer.

anyway, i live in Albany, NY, USA. so if anyone is nearby, feel free to contact me anytime and come on over with your disks, laptop, and power cord :)

i see a ton of students at my college with the dv6000 and dv9000 series laptops and i wonder if they installed XP on it, and if they saw this guide. i actually counted..... about 1/3 are dvx000 series laptops, about 1/3 are macs, and 1/3 are dells. and a small number of thinkpads (like a couple)

hp and mac seem to be selling alot of laptops in my area. years ago i only saw dells

    Hello again !

Windows XP working fine on HP DV9580EG since September. :D

I wonder if there is a way to slipstream the SATA Driver onto a Windows XP 64-bit platform. I have tried with the x64 edition of the drivers provided by HP from C:\Swsetup, but they don´t actually work.

If there is no solution to this, maybe someone could give me a link to a 64-bit SATA driver for me to slipstream.

I appreciate all your work ! Getting the 1.02 version of drivers right now, I hope there will be some improovements.

Thank you and happy holidays !

Hello everyone, thank you for such a great forum! I finally went ahead and ordered a DV9500T since A) they had a 30 percent off coupon and B) this forum has shown that it is possible to get XP working on it! It should arrive in about a month.

Anyhoo, a couple of questions (and I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum). With the release of Service Pack 3, which I have heard is supposed to include sata drivers, will we still have to go through the process of slipstreaming?
My second question is, has anyone tried to take advantage of the Vista Ultimate to XP Pro downgrade program through HP? I keep getting the run around from them and I now am resigned to the possibility of borrowing my friend's XP cd and having to call MS themselves to get the proper activation code. Has anyone gone through this process? HP is clearly not living up to their obligations WRT supplying Vista Ultimate buyers with a Windows XP oem/restore CD.

no idea about SP3 since i never worked with SP3. no idea if MS plans on even releasing the final version. i heard alot of rumors that they might cancel it last minute in favor of Vista. so i dunno.

i dont know why you would even try to go through some "program" to get XP from hp...... they dont even support it for the Santa Rosa laptops as far as i know. they will just turn you down and say "its not possible" then say "it will void your warranty". its just easier to use your own disk and your own key, with your own drivers IMO. the drivers and the simple process is all mentioned here and on robvia's website.

I'm getting 2-3 e-mails a day from people with the knock off brands asking me if I can find drivers for them. Yes, it appears they don't even read the guide, because all over it I tell people to find their own drivers, have links to Everest at the bottom, and explain my guide is for the DV6500T. They'll have a DV6602AU (AMD version sold in India) or a DV6580EE (similar to a DV6500T).

So yeah, it appears these people scan the guide, see all the stuff involved, and fire off an e-mail asking if I can do it all for them. I reply back that I have a full time job. But it's getting to the point where I may take my e-mail address off the page because this is getting ridiculous.

The only other legit problems I'm hearing about are those with sound issues. They install the drivers and it doesn't work. I tell them to install the UAA driver and do it all again making sure they get the Realtek drivers from the site. Somehow this magically works and they eventually get it.

I do get one or two e-mails a week from people who say they got it, but the rest don't even try, even with all my disclaimers about the drivers.

same exact situation as you man.... i agree its getting ridiculous. after my finals, ill change the guide a bit.

its not that robvia and i dont want to answer questions, its just that if you have a non-USA model, you will have to find your own drivers using Everest's help. we cannot list the links for, nor provide packages of hundreds of different laptop versions from india, greece, israel, brazil, france, singapore, antarctica, etc. (the last one was a joke).

btw, im pretty sure both our guides state to install UAA first, and then the realtek driver. i guess when they see the simple XP desktop, they get excited and install any driver they can get their cursor on :). the thing is, 70% of the work is already done. the drivers are there, and the process is there. just follow it and there is a 99% chance that there will be no problem.

    ----

and for those who actually tried and followed the guide (or not) and got it, major props to you.
wow i sound like one of my teachers.

Mujjman - Hey good luck on your last final! Yes, I am now convinced that it is not worth it to go through HP for the MS downgrade program. I have been studying the guide in preparation for my DV9500T's arrival and I can't wait to follow the guide POINT-by-POINT!

Is anyone going to offer the new driver pack as separate components? I know someone did with the previous pack, and i havent go the access time or speed to download the full thing. What i really need at the moment is new display drivers. My current drivers have died again. Well, not exactly died but its no longer detecting the maximum resolution my screen is capable of again. Which gets reported to my games, which try doing things they shouldn't and it all gets ugly. Has anyone experienced this problem and can they recommend a particular driver to download?

And to mujjuman and robvia, its fair enough that you have to tell people to give you a break. Its not like you're paid to do this. THANK YOU!

hey do you have AOL Instant messenger or something? ill send it to you via AIM for now.

can you give me some details about ur graphics driver? where did u get it, what version, filename? just wondering because there are about 3 drivers out right now and i want to pick the good one. also, what problems are you having, just a failed standby and hibernation?

oh wait, you stated your problem. im so dumb lol. its snowing like crazy outside and while coming home my car got stuck and i was busy shoveling literally 1/4 of the road to get my car home. it was actually really fun, but my brain is still frozen.
anyway, do you get the standby/hibernate problem too?
