Okay, just to verify... If I don't want to use the HP QPDP feature ever, I can just not worry about trying to ever install the software for that, correct? And then it doesn't matter if I ever touch the QuickPlay button or not (if it actually has any effect), because I'll never be using it for anything. (And the same goes for the play/pause/rewind/fast-forward buttons on the keyboard -- I don't ever use those.) And I can just use Windows Media Player to watch DVDs on it after I get it up and running with XP. Is that all correct?

    Thanks again!

no you do not have to install QPDP if you dont plan to use it. and you dont have to worry about touching the QUickplay button. and it wont have any effect. i just touched mine alot of times right now. lol. anyways, the play/pause, etc. buttons can be used in WMP and i love using those. same with the remote. and WMP is an excellent program to use for watching DVDs. the newer version that i got from Windows Updates... i dont know if its version 11 or 10 though. its the latest one and sorta looks like Vista. :)

the remote will work in Windows Media Player.... or Media Player Classic. or VeohTV...

I get these e-mails all the time now. They send me a model number that's from a different part of the world, like the DV6560EL which is for Italy. They ask me if I can get them all the drivers, and if I can help them, meaning walk them through each step. At first I would google the term such as "HP DV6560EL specs" and the page comes up in Spanish. I paste the link into a reply e-mail and say this is your specs. But now I don't even have time to do that because I get one of these e-mails every day.

I suggest to people trying to find your specs, to google the term "HP model specs" where model is yours like DV6560EL. If it still seems too complicated, find a friend who has experience formatting computers.

To find the correct chipset drivers it's easier to run the CPU-Z application http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php (it's free) and download them from the manufacturers site.
For my laptop (dv6535ep) it's the Nvidia nForce 520 chipset drivers. This installed the ethernet drivers as well.

yeah so do i. maybe i should add in my guide to use everest or cpuid or both in Vista and note down all the hardware details, incase the drivers dont work. the american laptops are pretty much the same.... with MINOR differences as far as i know. but the laptops overseas with the same label are so much more different.

The only "trouble" i have had was to make (8) backup cds it took a long long time! I dont know why but i couldnt burn dvds maybe it was my dvd disks.

It is difficult to find so simple and focussed info via internet!
    Keep on the good work!

So what is the "Quicklaunch driver" then? (It's kind of confusing because there are so many different names for what appears to be all the same thing...)

Is the Quicklaunch driver for the Quickplay button that lets you play dvds/music/etc. without booting the OS? And, if so, then that's what we're calling QPDP, is that right? (Sorry if some of this is repetitive -- I just want to make sure and I'm understanding correctly...)

The Quicklaunch driver is for QPDP, right? If I'm not going to ever use QPDP, do I still need to install this driver? If not, then would I just restart after installing the synaptics driver?

I'm not going to have bluetooth on my dv9500t. So can I just skip this step?

I don't ever plan to use the HP wireless assistant (I've always just done it by going to Network Connections and right-clicking the Wireless Network connection listing and choosing "View Available Wireless Networks" -- then pressing the wi-fi button on my laptop then clicking on "Refresh Network List"). I don't think that is actually using the HP wireless assistant in any way (right?), so can I skip this step also? (And, again, I won't have bluetooth either, which this step mentions...)

Again, if I don't have bluetooth, then do I need to do this step? What is the HP Integrated Module? And will it have anything to do with my sound if I don't have bluetooth?

I don't believe I am getting the webcam on my dv9500t, so can I skip this step as well?

What are these drivers for? What is Ricoh Reader?

ALSO, if I'm getting rid of Vista all together, and installing XP (and not having any partitions on the hard drive), do I need to use some program to wipe the hard drive before installing XP? I saw mention of that step on that other guide where it was telling how to do dual-boot or triple-boot OS's, but it's not mentioned here. Does the XP disc itself wipe out Vista? Or do you need to wipe the hard drive somehow at some point?

    Thanks for the info!

You can probably leave out the drivers in question and see if they appear in the device manager with a yellow question mark. If not then it's ok if you leave out the wireless assistant, bluetooth, and the web cam.

Ricoh drivers are for the 5 in 1 card reader on the side. You need that to work if you want to plug in memory sticks. The Ricoh drivers are

    Richo 5 in 1 card reader (sp33604.exe)

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224055&os=228&lang=en

You can format the machine without using Killdisk if you want. Be sure to back off your \SWSETUP folder first, best idea is to copy it to another computer on your network. Otherwise use Nero to burn it off. The XP CD will come up and ask if you want to format the existing partition. You can do this but then you'll still have the recovery partition, which is a waste of 11 gigs. That's why I tell people to wipe the drive clean and start over.

I added Everest and CPU-Z to the end of my guide, thanks Mujjuman for the idea.

Yeah, it should. The drivers are pretty similar for the most part. They all use the same Intel chipset and nvidia/intel GPU's. You might have to use a couple of different drivers but by and lrge the process to install should be similar to this guide.

I've been following this thread for a while and I was wondering if someone could compile a perfect driver pack just like this specifically for the DV2500 series? DV2535EA to be exact. :) ;)

When sound doesn't work, you have to make sure to install the UAA driver first. Then install the latest sound drivers from the Realtek site. There are 3 Realtek drivers to install. There is a main audio, high definition audio, and ethernet driver. When I tell people to install the UAA driver, they usually go back, install the UAA driver, the sound drivers, and everything works. If it doesn't work, then check to see if you have the Conexant sound hardware instead. Try running Everest 2.20 or right click the yellow icon in the device manager listing and see if you can figure out what hardware you have.

As for making a perfect guide for the DV2535EA, that's impossible because the hardware is different. The DV2500T already had slight differences from the DV6500T. That's why the best advice is to install Everest 2.20 to identify your exact hardware before beginning.

There are slight variations for the laptops made all over the world. There's no way for myself or the people in this forum to know the differences because when I look up the specs, it doesn't say the exact hardware manufacturer and the part number. It says audio, or video. That doesn't tell me much, which is why you have to run Everest. Try this, bring up Google and type into the search box "HP DV2535EA Specs" and see what comes up. You'll get a few sales links, and then one that might show the specs. But it won't show the exact hardware. That's the problem, I have no way of knowing if you have Realtek sound hardware, or the Conexant. Plus all the other hardware which could be one thing or another. There's no way for me to know what drivers go with your laptop. You have to figure it out. And I don't have the time to walk each people through each step to solve each driver, it would take too long. Yes, HP should have all this info on their web site for each model, but they don't. When people call HP support and complain they want XP, HP gives up and sends them to my guide.

mujjuman, your work is just great! I can't express the gratitude for going through all the trouble of collecting the drivers.
As a more experienced user, I had no trouble overcoming the lack of SATA drivers in the XP CD, but your guide helped me a lot afterwards.

I had to install XP on a DV6515ej and collected my drivers. I offer them now to this great community in here:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FDLZ63G8

the drivers are based on mujjuman work with few small updates. I've updated the realtek drivers (both Ethernet and audio), wireless drivers (from Intel), added the drivers for fingerprint reader and the software to login, added the hpupdate and lightscribe update directly from HP.

This is HP page for the drivers for XP for this model: (it's ofcourse recommended to install from them first)

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3545181&lang=en

Here are my computer specifications if it helps someone in identifying the drivers he needs:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...16&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3545181&lang=en

The package of course comes with NO WARRANTY AT ALL!. It has been tested on this model ONLY! Use on your OWN RISK!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your kind answer.

So what if I did just that? If I run Everest and write down all the hardware details in my laptop, would someone be able to help me collect and compile all the drivers I need for XP? I don't really need a guide for the install itself - I could just follow this one, but with the drivers I require. I just need help finding and compiling the drivers.

    Thanks in advance.

the driver pack from this thread is known to only work with the dv6500/dv9500..... it is also known that there are some differences between the dv2500 and the dv2600 models. make sure you read the entire guide (the dv2500 sections)

    yes.

I did, i created the xp iso using alcohol, then i extracted everything to the desktop. Anyway, i managed to solve it. Unfortunately i had to create again the iso using a pirate copy of xp, it's working great (at this moment is finishing the install). Thanks a lot for your help, otherwise it would have been impossible.

I will also try to install in another partition vista business. I'll post how it went.

Well, i just finished installing windows vista ultimate, you just don't have to do anything else but install it on a different partition, that's it (and of course have the drivers at hand).

    My laptop is a dv2600.

I have used the excellent guide to install XP and I have gotten everything to work reliably...EXCEPT USB!

USB works most of the time, but I have had the following problems:

    1. iTunes has trouble connecting to my iPods, both of which sync fine with my other computers.

    2. BSOD a couple of times while performing tasks that require heavy read-write to an external USB drive.

I reinstalled XP after the guide was perfected, but the problems persist.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

On a related note with USB, I'm guessing I'll have to slip in the USB/chipset drivers in order to use a USB stick?

I'm on a dv6600 series laptop, and I want to save some time by just grabbing the drivers through a USB stick.

I've switched from Vista to XP and I'm loving it, but I just found out about something today. When I watch a video file there seems to be choppy video playback, kind of like frame skipping. Is it because of the video drivers? The video file isn't too intensive.

    I have a DV2500t C2D 2.0ghz with the 8400 nvidia graphics card.

I loved this guide, thank you very much.

So to my big issue: I can't get any USB-mouse to work on my dv9575...

Especially my Razer Copphead is giving me a headache. It recognizes the mouse, and installs some XP-integrated drivers for it, giving it the correct name etc, and it lights up, but it just won't respond to any movement or clicking. I have tried installing the drivers found on razerzone.com, both the new and the older ones, and I've tried to remove all "Razer" entries in the Registry, but installing the original drivers just doesnt work.

I tried a Dell USB-mouse as well just now, but it doesn't recognize it, other than it being an "Unknown" HID-device. Windows Update isn't much help either!

    Regards,

    Hello everyone!

I have a HP Pavilion DV6515eo which I have installed XP on with integrated SP2. It worked great for a while until my harddrive started making clicking noises followed by eventlog error messages (bad blocks etc), blue screens and a damaged Boot Sector as well as a "Missing Operating System-error".

I then returned my laptop for repair which took about three weeks. I got my computer back with a new harddrive about a week ago and I immediately installed XP on it again. It seems the same things happen all over again, even with a new harddrive. This time I only hear the same clicking sounds, but none of the other errors have shown up yet...

Now, my question is this; Has anyone else experienced this?? Is there a possible solution or do I have to wait until Windows XP SP3 comes out with built-in SATA support?

    Thanks! Great thread! :D

    Hello everyone,

I have been lead here about my DV2000 series laptop. The onyl trouble i have is installing the Network card's drivers. Everything else seems to work fine.

Unfortunately, hp's website doesn't give the proper drivers for my model (DV2202CA)

All the specs say is that it's an Intel PRO 10/100 card.

First of all, thanks for all the drivers and an excellent guide that worked perfectly!

When finished, the only thing I was "missing" was the Authentec fingerprint sensor driver. So I searched around abit and found some drivers for XP and installed those. The reader worked perfectly, just like in Vista - HOWEVER:

The Authentec Fingerprint drivers make Standby mode very unstable I figured out. After installing the fingerprint reader it would freeze when trying to stand by, and never recover from it. Uninstalled the software/disabled the hardware and stand by/hibernation is silky smooth again.

    Anyone else can confirm this?

    Just a heads up

Not sure if its fingerprint related but i have been having a problem with hibernation. Sometimes it gets to the "Preparing to hibernate" screen but no further, or gets to the screen, the display goes black for a moment and then the desktop returns with an "Insufficient resources to complete the operation". Occurs quite randomly but i havent yet found a cause. Is there a driver fix or anything to prevent this?

Also, I noticed on the HP website there appears to be a new Vista fingerprint driver for the AES2501. Does anyone know of an XP equivalent somewhere?

    Worked great on my dv6623cl. I have 3 questions\problems:
    1. I installed quick launch as described but my buttons do not make any "click" sound.
    2. Did someone find a way of using all buttons of the remote control, meaning programming its buttons? Maybe Girder can help?
    3. Did someone try the SPDIF audio output? Does it work with the WinXP version of the audio driver?

    Thanks.

I just attempted to "downgrade" to XP home with SP2 from Vista home premium 32-bit on my DV2500t.

The OS installed fine, thanks to all the info in this thread, however I'm having a bit of trouble with a few drivers.

First off, I can't get any sound. I tried the Conexant driver but it said no media device was found. Can anyone help me out here?

Also, for whatever reason, my quickplay buttons don't seem to have installed correctly, even after I installed the drivers. For example, touching them does nothing, and my mute button which used to glow orange on Vista now glows blue. I remember someone else mentioning this, perhaps in this thread even, but I don't know what the solution was.

Lastly, no matter what I do I can't seem to get my Ethernet Controller to work properly. Perhaps I have the wrong drivers? I used the Realtek ones from the following guide:

    http://www.nogodforme.com/HPDV6500T.htm

(Edit, I realized I had forgotten to install the Yukon Drivers. That seems to have fixed that, except now under the "System Devices" tree in the device manager I have a yellow exclaimation point next to the "PCI Device" What's that?)

I've never really had to deal with OS reinstallations or mucking around with drivers like this, so I'm pretty much sailing blind here, even with the help of threads like these and the above site. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

(Edit again, let this be a lesson for posting before trying: I right clicked on the PCI Device and tried to update the driver, that installed and then allowed me to get my Conexant audio working. Now my Quickplay buttons work as well. Nothing has an exclamation point. Huzzah!)

At any rate, disregard this post. Thanks to this thread, I have everything working on my DV2500t with XP :D

Many thanks to Mujjuman and Hakez!! The "Driverpak_1.01_dvX500.zip" package in the thread starter works perfectly for my dv6626us. No question marks or exclamation points are left in my Device Manager.
