I followed this thread to install XP on my dv6500t, however, I have installed the Audio and HP QuickPlay drivers on XP but my machine is not responding to these installed drivers (i.e. The laptop speakers and quick play buttons aren't working). I know the drivers are there because XP recognizes they are installed in the 'Add/Remove Programs'. Are there any tests or other diagnostics I could preform to get these drivers to operate?

Has anyone who installed XP had any video card issues? Mine died and I had to send it into HP. I have been running vista since but I am not that happy with it and would like to go back to XP.

Is there any chance the video driver for xp could have contributed to the GPU failure?

quickplay doesnt work in XP for the dv9500 and the dv6500 series
make sure you installed the realtek HD audio drivers AFTER installing the UAA drivers

not at all. bad hardware quality.

What's the best link to download the Lightscribe drivers from?

Also, if I never use Lightscribe, is there *any* reason I'd need these drivers for my dvd-drive? Do they have any effect on anything at all other than the ability to use the Lightscribe labeling feature?

    Thanks!

hp dv 2625 eo. im editing video and was shocced when i disciver that the graphic card geforce 8400gs didnt support overlay. its essential for me to get the video out on extern display and have the editing suite or program on the other. i had another hp of the dv 9xx series wit a geforrce 7600 onboard and it workd pretty well.(media sentr edtion os)
then i put in the SATA driver on a XPpro as deskribed and downloaded package for "downgrad" from vista on dv 6xxx? from this site.i . it worked well.BUT I MUST ASK YOU OUT THERE: IS THERE ANY POSSEBILIETIES TO GET OVERLAY or mirroring hot key as they said, for getting the player on one desk and full screen video on other.on this geforce m8400gs
without moving the player and then hit full screen
I will be wery pleased if someone could help me. regards from drfilm norway

Thank you for this post, it's been of great help to me and my new DV9618ca laptop.

However I can't seem to get the wireless to work properly. When I try running the Intel Pro driver set up it tells me I have an incompatible card.

    So I'm stuck. Any thoughts?

not unless you have the 64-bit edition of XP Pro

iif you bought your laptop outside of the US, you have a different card.... youre going to have to find the drivers for it on your own.

Gotta say excellent resource for going from Vista to XP. Much better support that the HP site!

Ok, now for my problem. I've downloaded the drivers and installed XP.

However, very few of the drivers work, specifially the ethernet driver says it has installed, but when I check device manager, it still shows an exclamation mark next to it.

Other devices also show an exclaimation, but at least if I get the ethernet working, then I can sort the others out.

Now what I am thinking is my model is the DV9565ea, which has an AMD Turion 64 x2 chip.

In the downloaded drivers, one of the first drivers to install is the intel chipset, surely I should be installing some kind of AMD chipset?

Could this also be why the ethernet is not installing properly.

Any speedy help will be really helpful.

    Thanks. In. Advance :)

Ok, now I've run Everest and the Network cards installed are the following:

    Broadcom BCM4312 (Wireless network adapter)

    and,

    nVidia MCP65 - LAN controller

I can't find drivers for either one of these on Google, can anyone post any links to the drivers for these?

    Thanks,

    [UPDATE]

added to the OP that this isnt for AMD laptops.... added a link to AMD-Based guide

Thanks for the AWESOME guide. Found this site after 2 days of unsuccessfully trying to slipstream the right SATA drivers for my DV6614TX (dv6500). Am currently formatting a drive that previously "did not exist."

I have a Windows XP SP2 CD with me(Bootable). I understand completely the logic behind the SATA issue.

My cousin recently purchased a Desktop and I assembled it for him. It is an Intel Core 2 Duo. The HD was a SATA. Now I didn't know about this issue then but when I put in the CD it did Boot from it and it is running well. Would I still need to go ahead with all the fuss even though I have the same CD? The drivers thing is clear to me.

I primarily tried Dawn of War, since i just bought the complete three pack so my friend and I can play full multiplayer. I came up with some weird message referring to a particular component which could not be found and recommended reinstalling direct x. So i went back to the 163.71 drivers from driver pack 1.02 i think. The play the game, but resolutions are back to crazy land. Also, I just purchased a 7 pin S-Video to composite video adapter for linking the laptop to my TV and its not working properly. I managed to get it displaying correctly, however the actual screen area was outside the boundary of my TV. The weird thing is, when i selected dualview (independently configured) displays and altered my laptops resolution it was affecting the size of the background on the TV. I'm thinking its the display drivers so any suggestions for alternatives would be extremely appreciated since as soon as i'm online i'll be ready to download a few to try.

No, as far as I can see lightscribe software only affects lightscribe labelling. Google lightscribe and go to the official site for the latest software

I wasn't able to get the sound to work after uninstalling the HD audio drivers, so I went ahead and did a complete reinstall over XP to try to reinstall drivers. I made sure the UAA driver was installed before the Realtek HD audio drivers, but I still have no audio device detected. Strange... my Vista audio work perfectly. Any advice?

    Thanks

Ok me again and this time i am posting from within my browser in windows XP!!! yes guys the guide did work and it worked flawlessly, pretty much all the drivers worked and the ones that didnt were easy to find. So remember my model number and if yours is the same i promise this guide will work for you DV6614tx.

Ok just a few little things i think should be improved with the guide. alot of the first page where the guide resides is clunked up and very hard to navigate around, how about starting a new thread with one written up very clearly and with only the latest driver packs there. also some more pictures and some could be alot clearer, I personally got stuck on step 10 for ages cause the pictures were just to small and i couldnt tell what was going on. but all in all a great guide and i am just so releived to have xp running, my system is now blisteringly quick and ALL programs are compatible.

should anyone need advice or help installing xp ill do my best to help just pm me.

Hello, and thanks for this great guide!
    I have two questions:

    1. I'm connecting my PC to my HDTV with a HDMI-cable. When I used Windows Vista, I switched something in my sound-controllpanel to get sound on my television, but with XP I can't find this option.

    2. My friend have a HP-PC with AMD. This guide is for AMD only, is there any chance that he can get Windows XP on his HP?

    Thanks!

i think it makes sure that xp makes the most use out of dual core processor considering there wernt any when xp first came out it probably needs some optimazing and the hotfix does that. its completely safe i installed it and both my cores are working in xp

I've successfully installed XP Pro on my dv2530ea, and everything works hardware wise.
Unfortunately I dont have quick play or media center in order to use the included DVB-T EC300 tuner card, is there a stand alone version of quick play for XP that doesnt use that damn stupid partition setup or can anyone recommend a piece of software to watch TV with this card under XP?

    I have HP dv9580eg laptop,
confirming that downgrade to XP succeed just like instructed.

My only problem is with bluetooth. Bluetooth works (as it did found my mobile phone and send him password), but I can't open "My bluetooth Places" !
What happens is that it opens notepad, containing text:

    L Ŕ F‡ P‰äĆRČP‰äĆRČP‰äĆRČ y PŕOĐ ę:i˘Ř +00ť /C:\ J 1 )8sn PROGRA~1 2 ďľ'8öľ;)8sn P r o g r a m F i l e s < 1 )8sn WIDCOMM & ďľ;)8sn)8sn W I D C O M M T 1 )8un BLUETO~1 < ďľ;)8sn)8vn B l u e t o o t h S o f t w a r e p ± )8“n MYBLUE~1 > ďľ;)8“n)8“n M y B l u e t o o t h P l a c e s ďľÉžđj)´Ôˇű –Ë n - m íµđh C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\My Bluetooth Places m C o n f i g u r e t h i s c o m p u t e r ' s B l u e t o o t h c a p a b i l i t i e s . I don't have a clue what could this mean.. I installed autopatcher (avgust core), vista inspirat 2.1 and nod32 2.7 before I tried using bluetooth, otherwise clean system.
I tried uninstalling, deleting and reinstalling drivers, also with diffrent settings when wizards asks me, which services do I want. I also uninstalled vista inspirat theme and nod32, and still no diffrence.

    Has anybody encountered that problem?
And finally, is it possible to use bluetooth without "My bluetooth places"?
can you recommend any other software for using bluetooth. I necessarily need just file transfering

Thank you very much for any helpful information

    http://www.hardforum.com/archive/index.php/t-762073.html

try some of those out and see which one you like :)

i have an ATI tuner on my desktop, and i use the Multimedia Center included with my card, and i love it.

i honestly dont know how to use bluetooth.... i dont even have other bluetooth devices

Excellent guide Mujjuman and Hackez. Just upgraded a new dv9500t to XP for my dad using this guide - since I have to play IT guy for my folks long distance, this was a lifesaver to give them another few years of XP. Thanks for taking the time to collect the drivers in one spot - so far it all looks good.

i wont downgrade to Vista unless i really really have to. i dont like the new OS, and i dont like the learning curve.

my cousin just a Dell XPS.... he installed XP on it before even booting Vista. lol.

You need "My bluetooth places" in order to transfer files from a Bluetooth devices. My brother and I tested Bluetooth file transfers once, and it is slow.

If you open "My bluetooth places", you'll see all Bluetooth devices that can be access. Bluetooth devices needs security as well, so you really can't use it without the software/drivers. HP's drivers/software works fine.

If you are using a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard, the keyboard will require a passcode, but you can use the mouse without passcode. Bluetooth devices just works, and you can have up to 7 devices running at the same time.

Problem is, i can't open "My bluetooth places", because of unknown issue. Drivers seem to work fine, as bluetooth actually works (it did find my mobile and send him a request - but that was done with wizard), there must be issue with windows, but i don't now why.. as system is clean as it can be..

When I had a bluetooth dongle on my PC, i used bluesoleil software or "my bluetooth places" to work with bluetooth.. i guess bluesoleil was only for certain types of bluetooth dongles.. or is it universal?

Does anybody else have a dv9580eg with windows XP and bluetooth working?

Have you tried uninstalling the HP drivers/software and reinstalling? I've used bluetooth transfers before and to echo Thaoster, it is incredibly pathetically slow. Im talking downloading on dial up speeds!

It think that this is normal and bluetooth should not be fast enough for serious file transfering.
I just want to download some pictures time to time from mobile, or send some on it, for which I don't need a fast connection. And remote "mouse" option, so I can use it with presentations (changing slides).

I tried reinstalling several times. One thing I will try is again installing it's default vista to make shure that bluetooth works there. Then again installing XP, and first thing will be bluetooth drivers. If that would not work, there must be some strange series based issue with my notebook and XP.. it is true that newest series were never ment for XP..

for "windows", is Core 2 duo 2 actuals processors ?

Also, what I listed above are the standard modes (when pressing F5 when it says "Press F6 if u have a 3rd party scsi or RAID drivers", when Installing Xp).
In my particular case, only the option Standard PC with C-Step i486appeared. Why?
    Ideas? Suggestions.
I will have 2 XPs.1) daily use. 2) ultra maximum performance, 4 music recording, etc.

Again, thanxs, it is not easy to find people like here who know, and help willingly ;)

thats on the first page :)

choose the multiprocessor option.... core 2 duo has 2 cores on 1 die... not sure exactly what that means but im betting it means there are 2 processors on 1 chip.

After numberless reboots, several disc formats and windows installation..
i have found what caused my "My bluetooth places" error.

    it was autopatcher's setting:
Registry Tweaks --> Appearance --> Remove Shortcut Arrow on all Shortcuts

Removing it fixed a problem and "My Bluetooth Places" opens normally.
    Strange bug though..

    Hi Everyone

I finally discovered why I was getting the occasional hibernation failure. I rather stupidly forgot to google the error and when I did just now I discovered its a Windows XP bug which requires the installation of a quickfix patch from Microsoft. I'm still waiting for a permanent internet connection, once I get it I'll be able to help out here more often so I'll keep you posted.

I don't believe I installed this "intel Core Duo Hotfix" when I did it. I only installed the drivers actually listed in the "readme" file:

Intel Chipset Drivers - New Chipset Driver (8.3.1.1009)
Intel Matrix Storage Manager Drivers - New Intel Matrix Storage SATA (7.8.0.1012)
Nvidia Forceware Graphic Drivers - Old nVidia Graphics Driver (101.34)
Realtek Ethernet Drivers - New Ethernet Driver (Ver. 5.680)
UAA Audio Drivers - UAA Driver (1.00 A)
Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers WDM - New Realtek HD Audio Driver (183)
Motorola Modem Drivers - New Motorola Modem Driver (6.12.07)
Synaptics Touchpad Drivers - New Synaptics Touchpad (9.1.11 REV Q2)
hp Quick Launch Drivers - Quicklaunch Buttons Driver (6.20 Rev. B)
Intel Pro Wireless Drivers - Intel Wireless Drivers (11.5.0)
Ricoh 5-1 Card Reader Drivers - New 5-in-1 Card Reader Driver (1.01.10 Rev. A)

My laptop seems to be working fine... but how can I tell if I need that "intel Core Duo Hotfix" or not? (I believe my computer is recognizing both processors... but I'm not positive...) Are there settings I can check?

mujjuman -- Do you know? Did you install this? (It wasn't mentioned in the guide...)

Also, looking at the list of drivers I installed above, is there anything I should have installed that I didn't?

Did this have to do with the newer nVidia drivers causing an issue with standby/hibernation and that's why we're all installing the old one?

If so, does that mean there's a newer/better nVidia driver we should install that doesn't cause the standby/hibernation failure?

    Or is this something different?

    Thanks!

i never really installed the dual core fix. my laptop is working fine, and when i open the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and go into the "performance" tab, i see two graphs for processor, and each one is getting a different load.

but then again, maybe i installed it through Windows Updates or Autopatcher.

The Windows XP Dual Core Fix is a necessary update to resolve several flaws in how Windows XP handles C2D processors.

It is a simple hotfix that takes less than a minute to install, then reboot and your done!

It is currently not included on Windows Update or Autopatcher, Microsoft has stated they will release it/add it to Windows Update with the release of Service Pack 3.

See here for more information on the dual core fix:
