The site you show from microsoft also explain a registry tweak. did you do that?
    Fro microsoft page:
How to disable the new performance state policy behavior
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

After you install the hotfix that is described in this article, you may use registry settings to disable the new performance state policy behavior. To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, point to New, and then click Key.
    3. Type Throttle for the new key name.
    4. Right-click Throttle, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    5. Type PerfEnablePackageIdle for the value name.
    6. Right-click PerfEnablePackageIdle, and then click Modify.
    7. In the Value data box, type 0. Make sure that Hexadecimal is selected in the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, and then click OK.

Note You can type 1 in the Value data box to enable the new performance state policy behavior.
    8. Quit Registry Editor

The hotfix automatically applies that registry tweak.

All you have to do is run the hotfix and after it completes wait for your computer to restart.

Edit: I have recieved PM's inquiring as to whether all users need this hotfix or just those who play games on the PC. It is a necessary hotfix for everyone and there is zero chance of risk/issues upon installation from this hotfix as long as you are running a dual core processor.

    Regards Johan

Edit: when i try install the Microsoft UAA driver it jus stops. do i have to go in the device manager and do some advanced stuff? and the swsetup folder some guys are talking about? the one that had fingerprint drivers and modem drivers. where is that?

When you first recieve your laptop from HP there is a folder named swsetup.

You can access it by opening up windows explorer and going to

    (Drive Name) > SWSETUP

If you reformatted you lost it though and there is no way to recover it...

Oh okey i formatted it so im screwed then i guess :( but i think the headphone sound issue has to to with that i havent installed UAA Bus Driver forHigh Definition Audio. When i try to install it it just stops in the middle. i guess i have to intsall it manually under advanced but how do i do that? there is no *inf file?

Edit: I talked to HP support and they gave me a install file for UAA Bus Driver. But the same thing happend.. it just stops when it comes to the .cab files. Its like they are corrupt or something.. Very wierd.
Im am at the verge of throwing my laptop out the window now :p There must be a way to fix this so i can use headphones on the laptop.. I refuse to use Vista :)

Would be awesome if someone could help.

Well I'm using the 163.71 driver included in Driver pack 1.02 and since i installed the patch and rebooted a few times I haven't had a failed hibernation. I am having a serious issue with those NVIDIA drivers though (my resolutions dont detect properly) so people could try them if they wanted but no guarantees. Im not using the old driver because some of my games dont work. The hibernation patch is at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909095.

So which driver is better to use? The old 101.34 one or the newer 163.71 one with the patch? (I don't have Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and I don't play games.) It sounds like you're saying the newer drivers still don't work right?

    Thanks!

The only problem for me with the 163.71 drivers is the display resolutions dont detect properly (And the s-video out is dodgy but i can *barely* live without that). However the resolution thing is an intermittent problem, one time i got the drivers working properly for about three months. At the moment I'm investigating a theory. The other day i checked the NVIDIA control panel and the resolutions were detecting properly. I then went to the powermizer settings and checked 'use less power for the display'. Went back to the resolutions panel and everything had gone mental again. Usually when i first install the drivers the resolutions are fine but after a reboot they go screwy. Because usually i install the drivers, activate powermizer, then reboot! this could be the cause of the problem, going to uninstall and reinstall the drivers now and let everyone know how it goes.

Also, mujjuman, if you have a suggestion for a driver you would like to be tested then by all means send me the address. I have permanent internet now so i'm happy to help.

To answer your question XPsmashVista! the patch doesn't care which driver you use (its a windows XP issue relating to computers with or more than 2GB of RAM, not a display issue) so if your not playing games i recommend sticking with the older driver. For the short time i used it it seemed perfectly fine except when i wanted to play games. I'll let you know if i find a higher stable driver.

IT WORKED! Looks like the the problem i've been having with my display drivers is caused by the 'Extend my battery charge by using less power for the display' option in the NVIDIA Control panel's powermizer settings. Reinstalled the drivers, left the option off and rebooted a few times. My resolutions havent gone screwy! 163.71 seems to work.

GrandAdmiral -- some questions for you... Hope you don't mind! :) (I suppose this is all *slightly* off-top from the thread, but it's all related to the Driver Pack and the nVidia drivers...)

1a. So should I still stick with the older nVidia Graphics Driver (101.34), considering your new findings?

1b. If I should update, what's the best way to do that? Do I just uninstall the old driver under device manager and then install the new driver?

1c. What is the link to the new driver?

1d. I have 2gb of RAM, but I have no issues with standby with the old driver. Why is that? And will I need that patch if I install the new driver?

    2. First, here are some stats:

I have a dv9500t notebook that I removed Vista from and installed XP Home SP2 on (obviously! heh)...

    Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset.
    Memory: 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Graphics Card: 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    Hard Drive: 240GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120GB x 2)

I currently have the nVidia Graphics Driver (101.34) installed.

When I check my driver info in Device Manager, this is the info it gives me:

    Driver Version: 6.14.11.134
    Driver Date: 5/22/2007

(Please note: I don't play any video games of any kind. I just mostly browse with Firefox, use MS Word, notepad, and Outlook Express. I have ZA 6.5 Free and AVG A/V Free and Antispyware Free running. My system is pretty darn bare bones.)

2a. I'm wondering if there are some Nvidia things that are loading at startup or are turned on automatically that don't need to be that may be having an effect? These are the Nvidia-related items (and an Intel one) I have that are in misconfig/startup:

    NvCpll.dll (rundll32.exe NvCpl.dll, NvStartup)
    F rom SysInfo
Intializes the clock and memory settings on nVidia based graphics cards. Enable if you overclock your card.

(Note: I don't overclock my card, as far as I know...)

    nwiz.exe (command is "nwiz /install")
    From SysInfo
Nvidia nView Wizard - present with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to immensely improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations. If you use any of the special nView features available in the control panel leave this alone - otherwise you can disable it.

(Note: I don't use any of the nView features that I know of...)

    Iaanotif.exe
    From SysInfo
IAA Event Monitor User Notification Tool - part of Intel® Application Accelerator - "a performance software package for desktop PCs using select Intel® chipsets" that "replaces the ATA drivers that come with Windows with drivers optimized for desktop and mobile PCs." If you use the RAID version it's required to notify you if a RAID 1 disk has failed.

(Note: I don't have a RAID hard drive (though I've read that this is also installed with some non-RAID drivers). I installed New Intel Chipset Driver (8.3.1.1009) and New Intel Matrix Storage SATA (7.8.0.1012) -- and this was part of it for some reason...)

    NVIDIA Display Driver Service (NVSvc)

    ( Started > Automatic)
Provides system and desktop level support to the NVIDIA display driver
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe

(Note: I have already changed this service from AUTOMATIC to MANUAL -- and it never starts up on its own. Is this okay?)

If I can/should turn any of that off, I'd prefer to do it within Nvidia options than disabling the startup item itself. Any thoughts on any of that?

    3. I am also noticing that, well, it's hard to describe, but most of the time everything on my screen looks smooth/good -- but every 10 or 20 seconds, to my eye, it looks like the "smoothness" of things kind of "breaks apart" slightly and you can kind of see the dots or cross-hatch pattern that it's made up of. I don't know if that makes sense, but it's minor, although noticeable to my eye. Any thoughts on this? Note: I do have cleartype turned on (although when I go to the MS Cleartype site to "tune" it, it won't recognize that I have it turned on). Any thoughts?

    4. When I open the Nvidia Control Panel by double-clicking in Windows Control Panel, something called Spooler Subsystem App tries to connect to the internet (spoolsv.exe is the program) and it is added to the Zone Alarm Program Control. I've blocked it every time, but I'm wondering what the deal is... I've been told it has something to do with a printer, but I don't see the connection between Nvidia control panel and a printer...?

    Thanks for the help!

1a. In my opinion it never hurts to be up to date on the drivers you use, not only do they improve system stability you never know when you'll have a use for them.

1b. See this thread, the second post is a guide I made on how to properly uninstall nvidia drivers. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=209796

    1c. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16682

1d. I have never experienced issues with the driver linked above, so I wouldn't assume you need the patch before you try them.

2a. Everything can be turned off except for iaanotif.exe

    3. Try upgrading your drivers to see if that resolves your issue

    4. Zone Alarm is just overprotective, its nothing

    Thanks for guide and drivers.

I tried to install Windows XP on HP Pavillion dv6690, but I cannot install audio driver. Everything else works fine.

Pavillion using classic Realtek High Definition. I tried to install Intel INF utility and the newest realtek drivers for XP, but in control panel -> sound I can see No Audio hardware (or something similiar, I have czech version of XP :) ). In device manager looks everything ok and installed

    //Edit:
Fixed, I installed UAA XP driver/fix and sound works great :)

    Hi Phlip 555

Had the same thing happen to my desktop. According to a tech i talked to its got to do with your hardware being configured incorrectly (which windows is supposed to take care of). It doesn't appear to have any specific cause (mine crashed for no reason whatsoever, i hadn't updated drivers or anything. You can see what others have to say but for me, since the computer would still run for a time, i offloaded everything and just formatted. Worked like a charm.

    Hi XPsmashVista!

1a You said in your post that you dont play games, in which case i recommend you stick with the old drivers. I should note i only tried one game (Dawn of War) before dumping it (cos I'd just paid $100 bucks for the Anthology pack and if that didn't work...). I dont think there's anything new you'd need and it should also still have the temperature monitor included (if you care about that), now they've moved it to ntune in the newer drivers

1b I just uninstall (using the NVIDIA setup through Add/Remove programs), reboot, Install, reboot, configure everything and then reboot again for good measure (that was when things usually went screwy). But i'd go with Hackez's guide (*bows to Hackez's experience* lol)

1c I got mine from Driver Pack... 1.02? One of them anyway

1d The issue only affects hibernate, not standby. Its to do with windows being unable to handle copying the RAM contents to hard disk. If you're fine now, dont fix what isn't broken!

2 *bows to Hackez's experience* Lol

3 I wasn't using the 101.34 drivers long enough to check for this but i dont notice any kind of distortion on 163.71. I use ClearType as well

4 x2 to Hackez's comment, i use Zone Alarm as well

I might have another candidate for a new driver. Its the 156.83 driver from laptopvideo2go.com. I'm gonna test it for a while before i put forward my recommendation (after the earlier let down) but I'm feeling confident because unlike the 163.71 driver when i plug my laptop into the TV using my 7-pin s-video to composite adaptor it actually fits to the screen properly, instead of being too big for the TV to display.

    I'll keep you all posted

Hi all. Believe it or not, I've actually read through this entire thread, and I apologize now if I'm going to repeat something answered already--I don't think these have been. And sorry for LONG POST!

I'm just about to embark back to the beautiful world of XP on my DV9500t CTO but want to clarify a few things first...

    1) nVidia 8600M GS: My current driver in Vista is v7.15.11.0129 (according to Everest).

HP site has an nVidia Graphics driver for Vista. Link. It's version 7.15.11.5665 A.

Anyone know if this can and should be used instead of the one in Mujjuman's pack, or not? Should I be concerned about versions--what is the v of Mujjuman's? (read about having to tweak some other settings if use other nVidia drivers, so I hesitate but curious)

    2) Chipset: CPUZ claims I have GM965 (Everest shows unknown for some reason). I ought to have PM965 with my nVidia--think HP screwed me a bit on this to "standardize." This switcharoo was raised in another posting but not wholly explained. Is the chipset driver in Mujjuman's pack particular to either GM or PM?

    3) Fingerprint: I don't think this was firmly cleared up before, plus have extra Qs... I have AuthenTec AES2501. Mujjuman's driver pack includes Authentec driver sp36525. HP site has sp37812 (v7.9.0.4 A) FOR VISTA, not XP as listed. I also came across Authentec Fingerprint Driver sp32869, which I read does work in XP though HP says Vista only.

Any advice for best option--know which is most recent? Mujjuman himself does not have a fingerprint reader, so has anyone tested this? A google search leads me to think that 36525 is for x64 systems.

Further, I got Bioscrypt Verisoft Access Manager driver sp35640 though read about using Verisoft drivers from SWSETUP. Same?

BOTTOMLINE: What should I do in order to make my fingerprint reader work like it's supposed to in XP?

    4) Quicklaunch Buttons: There seems to be a newer driver on HP ( sp38171). Compare to sp34796 in Mujjuman driver pack. Which should be used?

    5) Lightscribe: Read that Lightscribe can be used/activated/whatnot through burning software. There is a "Lightscribe Host Software" on HP site. Should this be used if I will use Nero or Roxio in XP?

    6) Webcam: read on thread that HP changed webcam hardware mid-2007. I purchased mine in Dec '07. Hope sp35414 still the best option.

Finally, have y'all seen this? ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/

Pretty sweet HP drivers source it seems, if you know what number you're looking for.

    Oh yeah... 2 more thing:

The Hotfix for the proper management of the dual processors... It's included in the driver pack along with reg edits.

I actually downloaded the hotfix directly from M$ (WindowsXP-KB896256-v4-x86-ENU) before realizing it was there already.

    Questions:
Can I use the downloaded one, or do I really need the reg edits in the pack?

When should I apply this--after installing everything else? Or can I even slipstream it onto my XP cd effectively?

AND FINALLY: I have HD-DVD. Do I need some different drivers for this?

    Hi Cymple

    1) If you mean can you use that driver when you downgrade to XP, the answer is No. Definitely not. Use the one from the driver pack, its probably much older but unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it snce HP doesn't make XP drivers

    2) I'd advise on getting the latest chipset driver from intel. The PM driver is for machines with dedicated NVIDIA graphics (so this is what you'll need)

    3) Install Verisoft Access Manager (this provides the functionality and a driver too).

    4) I'd use the one from HP

    5) Yes you will need the host software to use lightscribe. Check the lightscribe website first for the latest version.

    6) There was a driver/software installer in the Driver Pack

    7) Not sure which you should use but I'd leave it till after installing XP. Keep it simple.

    8) I'm not sure, but if yes I'd assume there will be generic XP drivers from Microsoft

    Hope that answers your questions.

    Hi all!!

Guys, thanks for the guide!! :)

I just installed xp on my dv2500t. Everything went fine, except the audio and modem drivers didn't reinstall automatically after updating the PCI Device driver.
Had to update them by autosearch in internet. Also had to reinstall USB Root Hub drivers, now everything seems to be working fine.

Now I've got a couple of issues:
    1. nVidia drivers. I've got a NB8M-GS videocard (believing Everest report made before on Vista). This product is NOT in the list of products supported by nVidia ForceWare. As I can see here, most of people having dv2500t here have the GeForce 8400 GS videocard. This is not the same thing, right?
Anyway, I tried to install ForceWare, but it said my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements or smth like that.
So I'm still in search of nvidia drivers for xp, which is not so easy..

    2. Fingerprint sensor driver for xp? Does it exist?=)

    3. I've got no "Hibernate" tab in Power options  Can't set my laptop to sleep or hibernate, have to shut down every time. Is it the ACPI drivers that I have to update/reinstall/etc.?

P.S. Sorry i couldn't read all sixty-smth pages, suppose someone had similar problems. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks

Question about the Quick Launch Buttons driver/software - is it supposed to include a utility that allows you to configure these buttons? I couldn't find any start menu or control panel entries for it.

Tried running some of the exes in C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Quick Launch Buttons\ to no effect.

I just removed the device in Device Manager, then after reboot the new found hardware wizard detected it as nVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS  After that installation of nVidia drivers was successful and hibernation appeared too.

Downloaded fingerpint sensor driver from here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35413.exe

After much help from this guide I got XP installed on my dv2632TX, which is a common model in Australia at the moment. Here are my notes after doing a couple of installs - might stick them up on a web page at a later stage where they'll be more easily accessible to people wanting to install XP on the same model. They basically show the order in which I installed drivers and any hiccups encountered.

    1. SATA drivers for Mobile ICH8M-E/M
    Source: Hackez' Driver Pack 1.02
Notes: must be slipstreamed to an XP CD (nLite recommended for doing this)

    2. Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
    Source: http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/index.htm

    3. Intel Matrix Storage Manager
    Source: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/

    4. NVidia ForceWare
    Source: Hackez' Driver Pack 1.02

    5. Marvell Yukon Installer
    Source: http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=175
Notes: No reboot necessary after install.

    6. UAA Audio Drivers
    Source: Hackez' Driver Pack 1.02

STOP: After the reboot, open Device Manager and right-click the unknown "PCI Device" under System devices and select Update Driver, select no when it asks to check Windows Update, and yes to install the software automatically. This may be followed by new hardware prompts for the audio and modem - just cancel both of these. If you don't complete this step, the following audio and modem drivers will spit out the error "Driver installation failed: could not find the MEDIA device for this driver".

    7. Conexant High Definition Audio Driver (for AMD)
    Source: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3195733&os=228&lang=en
Notes: As recommended by Typo in the notebookreview.com forum.

    8. Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
    Source: Preinstalled Vista under C:\SwSetup\modem\V32\
Notes: I first tried the "Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP" intended for the same system as Typo's link for the audio driver, but it didn't match the device. I then tried the driver from SwSetup as suggested by Aragon, and even though the driver is ostensibly for Vista only, it works fine.

    9. ALPS Touchpad Driver for Windows 2000/XP
    Source: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=ob-16536-1
Notes: Takes a minute for a restart prompt to appear after installation. This driver doesn't clear an unrecognised device or add any start menu programs, but adds extra tabs to mouse properties. Probably not necessary to install if you don't want to customise the touchpad.

    10. Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    Source: http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro3945abg/
Notes: There are two download options - one with the driver only and the other that also includes PROSet software. I used the PROSet one and it seems superior to XP's built-in functionality for establishing wireless connections (more configuration options and detailed connection information).

    11. HP Bluetooth Drivers
Source: Hackez' Driver Pack 1.02 or mujjuman's Driver Pack 1.10
Notes: Tried the driver from both packs on separate installations, and both worked. With the one from the 1.02 pack, as mentioned in the notebookforums.com thread, I received an error during installation - just clicked "cancel" as recommended and continued the installation. The one from the 1.10 pack didn't display an error during install.

    12. Wireless Assistant Drivers
Source: Hackez' Driver Pack 1.02 (mujjuman's Driver Pack 1.10 contains the same version)
Notes: When I used the Bluetooth Drivers from the 1.02 pack, then just as stated in the notebookforums.com thread, I needed to right-click on "HP Integrated Module" in device manager and do an "update driver" to get Bluetooth working (if no "HP Integrated Module" is in device manager, open HP Wireless Assistant, click the Properties button and enable "Independent controls", then turn on Bluetooth). When I used the Bluetooth Drivers from the 1.10 pack, however, Bluetooth was working immediately after installing that driver, and no additional steps were necessary when installing the Wireless Assistant Drivers.

    13. HP Webcam Drivers
Source: Hackez' Driver Pack 1.02 (mujjuman's Driver Pack 1.10 contains the same version)

    14. Ricoh Flash Media Reader Drivers
    Source: Hackez' Driver Pack 1.02
Note: The drivers in the 1.02 driver pack actually appear to be newer than the ones in the 1.10 pack. The files in the 1.02 pack have more recent last-modified dates (2007 instead of 2006) and the setup.ini gives a later version number (3.51.01 instead of 1.01.10).

    15. Authentec FingerPrint Sensor Minimal Install
Source: Preinstalled Vista under C:\SwSetup\Misc1\ or mujjuman's Driver Pack 1.10
Notes: The driver in the 1.10 pack appears to be newer (7.8.1.7 vs 7.7.0.84). However, I've only tested VeriSoft Access Manager with the driver from the preinstalled Vista. I won't be reinstalling VeriSoft Access Manager, so I can't confirm whether it works fine with the 1.10 pack's driver.

    16. HP Quick Launch Buttons
Source: Preinstalled Vista under C:\SwSetup\QLB\ (can confirm after extraction that the 1.02 and 1.10 driver packs contain the same driver)
Note: This popped up 3 new hardware wizard boxes during installation. Pick the front one, select no when it asks to check Windows Update, and yes to install the software automatically. It should install a HID device, and the other box(es) that popped up will disappear.

AT THIS STAGE, THERE SHOULD BE NO MORE UNRECOGNISED DEVICES IN DEVICE MANAGER!

    17. VeriSoft Access Manager
    Source: Preinstalled Vista under C:\SwSetup\Verisoft\
Notes: Run Ciam.msi (ATMinInst.msi just reinstalls the driver). This installs the gimmicky fingerprint verification software :)

NOTE: KB896256 v4 is included with the last release of AutoPatcher (August 2007) for Windows XP, so if you're an AutoPatcher user and include the "recommended updates", don't bother installing the optional dual-core processor fix from Hackez' pack.

    DEVICES TESTED AND CONFIRMED WORKING:
Sound, wireless network, modem, webcam, card reader, HDMI out, multimedia buttons.

    Hi there!! Everything ok??
I have a question to Mr Mujjan and Mr Hackez...
Now I have doual boot (vista and XP). The question is....if I decide to FORMAT my hard drives (including recovery partition), can I install Vista in the future with the recovery dvds? The fist thing I did when I got the laptop was to burn the recovery DVDs and but the c:\Swsetup folder. Is that enoguht fo put the laptop to defaul settings in the future?

I read somewhere that if i delete the recovery partition in not posible to recover the system, even having the discs.
I called Hp, but as expected, it was a waste of time!

Thaxs a lot 4 your help

yes, if you have burned the Recovery DVDs, you can reinstall Vista with the default settings, etc etc even if you reformat your harddrive and repartition, etc.

    what the Recovery DVD does;

rewrites all partitions (delete current partitions, create 2 partitions)
in 1 partition (C: ) it copies Vista, SWSETUP folder, and other junk.
in the other partition (D: ) it copies the Recovery Partition contents

just make sure the disks WORK.

i have tried it and i can confirm the Recovery DVDs work 100% when the drive is entirely reformatted.

    Hi again:

I just read something interesting. For those who had problems with audio when installing XP, have you tried the KB888111 hotfix?

This is a quote from an audio forum called Asio4all (a generic special driver for audio apps)

...You may want to take a look into the Microsoft KB888111 hotfix - which essentially is a generic HD Audio driver for Windows XP....

You can read the full thread here:

I have a new DV9521TX and am having trouble with windows hanging after loading the drivers and needing to start up during XP install.

Drivers are loading fine as far as I know and I have even tried loading the SATA drivers via the USB floppy by pressing F6. Both with the same result, hanging after loading the drivers with the installation just saying 'Setup is Starting Windows'

I have copied a second cd-rom at a lower speed in case it was the CDrom but same problem encountered.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Regards

    Paul.

assuming the disk was burned correctly and slipstreamed correctly, im going to guess and say that the original was bad. try to see if setup will load on another computer (boot up) but dont install
