Another Success Story!!! <---That's me giddy with joy.

I have successfully installed XP on my dv9700t. No problems with any hardware. One thing I did that wasn't mentioned in the post was to create restore points. Once I got a driver installed and working I created a restore point before I installed the next just incase there were any problems with the new one. I'm not a computer expert so I don't if this would have even helped me in the event of a mayor error but at least it gave me piece of mind.

I thank every single one of you that posted a thread here, I strongly believe through our shared experiences I was able to complete this task, and trust me I am no computer wiz. (But I can follow instructions.) Personally I will never buy an HP product again because of their lack of support on this issue and there blatant lies telling me it could not be done.

Special thanks to Mujjuman, Hackez, and TheRuleBookMan for all your guidance! :notworthy:

I agree actually, but it appears we have pretty good confirmation now with 2 more 9700 owners using this. I'm glad though that you put a slight warning in the OP.

I'm very curious as to which drivers out of your pack will work for (6/9)7xx and which wont. I tend to think that all of them are fine except the quick launch buttons. I used a few drivers out of your pack, but I d/led the others directly from realtek/intel/laptopvid2go. And I got the quick launch drivers out of the swsetup folder while still under vista (after trying the drivers in your pack, and they didn't work). I also want to know about (6/9)7xx with GMA x3100. It uses the GM965 chipset, and I think my driver is specifically for the PM965 chipset.

Can someone with a dv67xxT or dv97xxT that has the GMA X3100 try the graphics drivers in mujjuman's pack and confirm them working? I can't see why they wouldn't. Then I can add them to my pack to make it complete.

Also, do either of you two 97xx owners who just completed install have bluetooth or fingerprint reader? if so, do these work?

I have not tried the fingerprint reader yet, I will try it on Tuesday when I get back to work. The bluetooth seems to be working fine, well I guess I should say I have not connected to any bluetooth devices yet but it see's my printer about 10 feet away. I will try to connect to it on Tuesday too and keep you posted of my status.

    Thanks!

    Hi everyone

Just checking in with my dv6519tx which has now been running for at least a month with no problems! Mujjuman, Forceware 156.83 most definitely works (except for the smart dimmer feature, but who cares!). Great to see so many other people having their installations go off without a hitch.

Has anyone tried installing Windows XP 64-bit on a dv9700t?

    Thanks.

The fingerprint driver seemed to install fine, no errors or anything funny, no problems shown in the device manager either. I just don't get the prompt when I log in the swipe my finger. Any clues anyone? It's not a deal breaker for me because I'm so happy just to have my main drivers working fine with XP, but it is a nice time saving feature if someone can tell me how to make it work.

    Thanks,

Sorry PoohCow, just the 32-Bit for me.

riverraider - You mentioned no problems in your device manager with XP - but did you have any problems with ACPI during the XP install? H-P messed with the BIOS on the dv2700t and I couldn't get XP to shut-down the system. It would come to a shutdown screen and say something like its now safe to turn off your computer. Thanks

I did not have any ACPI problems at all. I am no computer expert by any means, I don't even know the purpose of ACPI but I did not have any issues with it. I know Mujjuman thought that I might have an issue but my install went smooth.

I don't know if you follwed this guide for your install or not but I think Mujjuman said it won't work for the DV2700. Here's the quote:

Sorry I can't be of much more help other than to tell you my install on the dv9700t went smooth.

    Thanks.

Hmm... I guess I shouldn't have started a separate thread... I didn't realize this one was still going strong!

My DV9500's hard drive died last week, and I was forced to reinstall XP. Last time around, I followed Hackez & Mujjuman's amazing instructions and got everything up and running. I remember sound being a problem; I just don't remember what it was, or what the solution was.

This time, I was irritated at the thought of having to do an extra three or four hours of driver installs and updates after the installation, so I slipstreamed the final service pack 3 RC into the XP DVD, as well as all of the drivers that weren't .exe files or sound drivers. After install, I followed the order given in the 1.10 version of the driver pack for installing everything else.

Now I'm in the situation that many people have reported. I've got no sound, and one unknown, driverless PCI device in my device manager. I've tried uninstalling it, installing the drivers in the given order, installing the drivers in the wrong order, manually telling it what drivers to use... everything I can think of. With the exception of sound, the computer seems up and running happily, and I'd really prefer not to have to burn it and reinstall the OS.

I'm also pretty sure the QuickPlay buttons aren't working properly, but I have no idea if they would even work without the sound drivers installed.

Neither the UAA drivers nor the Realtek sound drivers threw any errors; nothing else on my computer seems to have a problem. If someone's got an idea what I can do, I'd REALLY appreciate it. I'm already aware that "reinstall the OS under SP2 and follow the guide without messing around with it" is an option :)

I don't know if this will help or not. I did not have any errors when I installed by UAA driver but it did not work right away. I had to go device manager, find the UAA device and update drivers (right click properties - update driver). I let windows find the most recent driver, install it, then it worked. Mine has worked ever since.

    Hope that helps.

No, Windows refuses to update the driver, whether it's looking at Windows Update, the actual driver files, or anything else I can find. It's telling me there's no driver currently installed. Do you know someplace I can download the UAA drivers directly from MS, not as part of a patch and not as part of a package like the Realtek drivers?

Aha! I got the UAA drivers off of this page:
    http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service...47627+1203541038251+28353475&threadId=1199948

unpacked them, installed them manually like riveraider said, and poof! Everything's working. Now, of course, I've got a ton of unidentified devices that I have no clue about, what with all the screwing about I've done on this now... but that's half the fun, right?

New to the forum and I've been doing some reading on this topic. I just purchased a dv2700tse ( dv2700t special edition for forum search purposes) and like others, I want to install XP. I wanted to see if there was any progress on getting this done and still having ACPI work. If there is not, I wanted to see if anyone had tried to take an image, with Ghost or something, from a Windows XP dv6700t and trying to overlay it on a 2700t. I know some of the drivers won't work (sound, touchpad, or other some such non-sense), but the hard drive controllers are the same and that was Windows would have ACPI installed.

Please let me know if this has been tried, I've read through almost all of the 75+ pages of this thread and didnt see anyone trying that out.

    Hello all,
I just got an HP DV2700Tse with all sorts of goodies on it including the Penryn 2.5 and I of course, like most of the people on the planet, want to give the boot to Vista and I don't mean boot up.
So, imagine my dismay as I read these posts by the bazillions and have not yet found anything about succesfully installing XP on this machine. Does anyone in here know or has heard of a way to make this happen or will I just have to run a VM in linux to get XP to work?
I am heading to Papua New Guinea for work in 6 weeks and it would sure be nice if I could get XP running by then.
    thank you all very mucho.

Mujjuman -- Since we have the same laptop and basically the same hardware and drivers, can you tell me if your Expansion Port 3 works properly? I'm going to be getting a docking station and it connects via this port. But since I've got XP, I'm wondering if it'll work properly and/or at all...?

    Anybody else happen to know...?

    Thanks!

good question... i never tried it though, so i dont know. it should work though, not needing a driver.... hopefully..... *crosses fingers*

I've been running XP fine on my dv9500t for a while. Although some things have been a bit funky, overall it runs great. However, fairly recently my computer has been randomly switching to internal speakers for a second before switching back to my external speakers. When it gets really bad, it'll do this four or five times in a row, and once it stopped playing from the external speakers completely.

I tried updating the Realtek drivers and even uninstalling them and reinstalling...

I don't think anything is wrong with my speakers. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

is it not possible to install an older version of the bios to fix the ACPI problem?
i have a dv2699 and i used this guide to downgrade my notebook to xp, and was successful. however, i upgraded back to vista for a while, and during this time, i went to the hp site and installed the new bios version available there. (F.25). after updating the bios, i am no longer able to install XP. it gives the same non-ACPI compliant error.
i've tried looking everywhere but just cant seem to find the older version of the bios that originally came with the notebook (i'm not sure which version it was). would be really great if anyone here could help. thanks.

sorry man, i cant think of anything useful. what do you mean internal and external speakers though? try disabling the realtek start up.

yes its a possibilty... a great possibility. thanks for bringing that up. but is anyone willing to go through all that trouble just to install XP? i know i would, but i dont know about anyone else.

if anyone ever tries that, please post it in here, or the other thread

The XP installation on my dv2600 didn't react well either when I upgraded the BIOS to F.21/F.25:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2990670&postcount=742

I was curious whether a fresh installation would've solved the problem. From your report, I guess not. Doesn't look like hp is doing any XP compatibility testing with their latest BIOS versions.

hi guys, i really need your help ,

ive been at this for 3 days and still it doesnt work

    ok
its a Hp notebook dv9634ca. it had vista home, in which it said the audio card was a realtek on HD Bus .

i have succesfully downgraded it to xp via slipstreaming the sata in nlite. ive downloaded the driver pack and followed the tutorial at the beginning of this topic . the problem is i have no sound. in the device manager/audio../ theres audio device on hd audio bus with an exlclamtion mark on it. Now the only i was able to get it without the mark was with the updates KB835221 & KB888111XPSP2 , the mark comes off but theres still isnt any sound. ( i tought i burnt the sound card so i reinstalled vista and the sound ran...)

ive installed xp 3 times now and its always the same...no sound .

    did i miss anything?

ive been using the WDM from the pack and ive tried the 1.87 , 1.86 ,1.68
ive tried using the conexant , with still no avail , ive tried using the ones on HP website. ive tried calling them ( we all know how that went )

plz help me , i dont want the last 3 days of headbanging to be for nothing

you didnt mention that you installed UAA..... install that first, then install the Realtek HD Audio drivers

then go into your device manager, right-click "unknown device" and/or "PCI Device" and click "update driver" for each of those

OK, I'm at my wits end now (help me mujjuman, your my only hope). I've clean installed three times now and still cannot get sound to work. The problem is the UAA device will NOT update and find the correct drivers. I've installed the UAA drivers first, then the sound, then tried to update the UAA, but it never finds the correct drivers and stays as PCI DEVICE with the ! on it. It's an HP dv9035nr laptop, and i've tried the drivers from the driver pack and from the hp site both had the same results.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

dont use the drivers from the DriverPack, because you have a dv9000. you can use all of the drivers from the hp website, and just follow the order of this guide.

either uninstall all of the drivers, or reinstall Windows so you can start over fresh.

yes i did install the uua first , i tried with the one on the driverpackage, i tried the newer version on the uua on the hp website , still doesnt work

i reformatted the laptop, reinstalled xp, retried installing everything in the specific order, still doesnt work .

i called 2 local pc shops and they just told me to dl different drivers and the other told me he never had any kind of problems

ive tried uninstalling the devices ( uua bus and audio device ) via the device manager but xp tells me that he cant uninstall it because it is needed for the boot process . if i right click on the audio device on hd audio bus to update the driver , nothing happens....

there are no exclamation marks anywhere, but instead of being realtek on hd audio bus, ( like it was in vista ) it just says audio device on hd bus

ive tried the hp website drivers, . ive just finished getting a copy of the sp3 pack , il slipstream it with an xp and the sata drivers .

I want to report another successful installation of XP on the HP dv9700t. I didn’t run into any problems with hardware or sound.

Thanks to mujjuman and hackez for the guide and to therulebookman for the drivers!!!

A big thank you to riverraider for being the first one to try this on a 9700t!!!

wow man, im stumped.... did you install the other drivers after installing UAA?
    it should go like this:

UAA (reboot), sound (reboot), modem (ignore error), bluetooth (ignore error, reboot).
go to device manager, click "update driver" for hp integrated module, and then for PCI device.

thats great news! no ACPI errors? no BIOS downgrades?

can you post what BIOS version you have?

    im updating my guide

    [EDIT]
    updated.

OK, tried it again from a full format. This is on an HP dv9035nr laptop (Intel chip).
These are the steps I took:
    1) Install XPsp2
    2) Install Chipset drivers (SP32555) and restart
    3) Install Graphics drivers (SP34044) and restart
    4) Check device manager to verify graphics installed
    5) Install UAA drivers (SP32646) and restart
    6) Verify in device manager there is a PCI DEVICE with yellow !
    7) Install Audio drivers (SP34204). This gives the following error message:
Driver installation failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver.
    8) Restart
    9) Verify in device manager the audio drivers installed, which they did (at least there are audio devices now listed)
    10) Install modem drivers (SP33890). this gives the same error message as above.
    11) Restart
    12) Install touchpad drivers (SP35444) did NOT restart when asked
    13) Install quicklaunch drivers (SP34796) and restart when asked
    14) Install wireless drivers (From the driver pack)
    15) I setup my wireless connection at this point
    16) Install LAN drivers (SP33574)
    17) Restart
    18) Attempt to update the UAA drivers, which does not work. I try to force it to use drivers from the SP32646 directory as well, but nothing is found. I attempt all three methods, automatic, check the web, and try ot select drivers from the directory. None of these methods worked for me.
    19) Install the Ricoh 5-1 card drivers (SP33604)
    20) Restart
    21) Check device manager again. If i select view-show hidden devices I have two items with the yellow ! on them: the PCI DEVICE (which I assume is the UAA driver problem since I don't have sound) and a SERIAL under the non-plug and play devices. I don't know if they are related or not. If you don't view the hidden devices, the serial one does not show up.

So where did I go wrong? any ideas on how to fix the sound, I really really don't want to go back to VISTA. Everything except the sound works as far as i can tell.

    Thanks in advance!

Possible fix for dv2700t. Downgrade to F.13 BIOS (older) and then you can install XP with full ACPI support. Please confirm or deny if you think this will work.

I believe the BIOS version is F.45. I didn't downgrade or mess with the BIOS at all before I started. No ACPI errors either. I finished in about four hours.

    thats good, thanks.

someone needs to test this. WARNING: do this at your own risk! this WILL void your warranty, so if your laptop becomes a brick, then good luck getting a replacement. there is a big chance that your laptop will be unusable! im sorry if that happens to you! but please post your results here.... in order to warn and/or inform people. thanks.

every single thing you did is correct. the only thing i can think of now is to uninstall your UAA, audio, modem completely and install UAA from here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224055&os=228&lang=en
    then reinstall Audio and modem.

yes. unless you are not from america.... then you might run into problems. its worth a try.

I've got a dv6700 this month and I'm trying to install Windows XP. The problem is that when I try to install the setup can not recognize my hard drive. I saw same workarounds like disable SATA on the computer BIOS but mine simply doesn't have the option. My computer's conf is:
    BIOS: F.45
    Hard Drive: SATA 5400250GB (ICH8??)

Does anybody know how to install Windows XP on this machine?

    Thanks!
    Vitor

zameerbarot, I wonder if the CHKDSK thing and the weird sizing things are connected. Have you tried running a manual full CHKDSK instead of the quick automatic sweep? That may correct the issue. If you try to work out what that missing device is, try going through all the hardware that is installed in your computer and see what is missing. Keep in mind that some devices have multiple components, for example on my dv6519tx the quicklaunch buttons show up as two different components and the card reader shows up as four. Try viewing by connection in device manager and see if the missing devices are on the same bus as the card reader (if you have one) and quicklaunch buttons.

Thank u so much for yr tips GrandAdmiral.

I have done some research on the internet and found that The Harddisk is indeed 250GB though HP claims it to be 200gb. They have now started providing 250GB HDD but have not updated the SPECS.

Another point is,I have already tried the manual CHKDSK option. Also, I reinstalled WIN2K3, then again scratched it and Installed WINXP but the same problem persists. Thus,Finally, I ran the HP Vista Rescue disk to set it back to factory settings again but the same problem still persists. I had absolutely no problems before I started this Vista to WIN2K3 convert and this problm has cropped up during the change over. Once the CHKDSK runs successfully, it reboots and then everything is ok till the next time i reboot. The following is the exact CHKDSK message that I get(My C:\ is 130GB) :

The MS link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831374 says that next Service Pack should resolve this, but even after trying the latest SP2 -the issue is still as it is.

XP is installed on the DV2700T. No BSOD's or ACPI errors at all. This is after a 12 hour burn in and multiple reboots.

Noted problems, the audio drivers do not seem to want to take, and yes I have installed the UAA stuff from HP. Also, I have about six devices that are USB Root Hubs and I dont know where to point them for the driver.

And I forgot to mention I dont know which RealTek NIC drivers to install. The ones in the guide do not work. Any help would be appreciated, but overall, it looks like the original concensus about the DV2700T not running XP is false as Dwight would say.

Win2K3 and WinXP are pretty similar, so 99% of the drivers out for XP work for 2K3.

about the harddrive, its cool that you have a bigger harddrive, but i dont know what could be causing the CHKDSK problem.......

did you try repartitioning your harddrive?

My next suggestion would be to get another system's opinion on your hard disk. Try gnome partition editor, free off the net. Download the ISO image and burn it to CD then choose boot from CD and follow the instructions to load it. The editor runs in a miniature copy of linux so its really easy to use. See what it says about your hard disk.

quasiinsomniac, I had a similar problem with my ethernet NIC. I'm afraid I can't tell you which driver I used because I honestly don't know (I should have written it down). Try the one from the realtek site and do a google for any other potential drivers. Thats what I did.

    Good Luck

I have downgraded my laptop Hp dv6735en from Vista to Xp. There are two unknown devices in device manager can you tell me what is missing actually. They are:
    1)
    ACPI\GENUINEINTEL_-X86_FAMILY_6_MODEL_15\_0
    2)
    ACPI\GENUINEINTEL_-X86_FAMILY_6_MODEL_15\_1

Can you tell me what are these things are and where I can get these drivers.

Also there is another problem once the notebook goes into standby it is unable to come back, I press keyboard button or use mouse pad it makes noise but monitor remains of and keyboard does not respond also I tried hiting caps lock but light does not change. I manually have to keep power button pressed untill it turns off and restart it.
I have latest BIOS, I tried WHQL latest video driver, driver pack driver and LaptoVideo2Go video driver but problem is still there it does not come out of standby. Reason I tried so many nividia drivers is if you uninstall video drivers standby option greys out and you cannot standby your computer.

Kindly can anyone help me to find drivers for these two missing drivers and also standby problem.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi all!

I'm just checking to see if anyone else has experienced weird noises or even had their harddrive destroyed after downgrading?

My dv6515eo is on its second trip to HP's Repair Facilities, hoping they'll fix the annoying chainsaw-like hum and annoying harddrive-clicking coming from within the machine...

Since I knew about these 'signs of death' beforehand this time around, I used my recovery dvd's to restore the laptop and shipped it away before the BSOD's, freezes, CHKDSK failures, Eventlog errors had any chance to occur..

I just don't get it. It seems to work for all of you without these issues.
I checked the Intel Chipset Drivers for P965 directly over at Intel's website and they were Vista/XP compatible, the same goes for the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers.

The Chipset, Storage drivers and SATA drivers (perhaps the latter will be fixed with Service Pack 3? Rumour has it that it'll include universal SATA-support instead of loading drivers manually by pressing F6) are the only ones I can think of to really mess up a system.
All the others (Audio/Video/Network/Bluetooth/FingerprintSensor/QuickLaunch etc etc) work fine and they shouldn't affect the system negatively in the same sense as the 'core' component drivers, right?

I'm really anxious to get XP to finally work trouble-free once and for all and I'll keep trying unless Vista SP1 manages to fix my problems...

Please, let me know if any of you experience the errors I've described above :)

I have deleted/repartitioned the HDD several times by now and but it still doesnt fix the problem. In fact, i have restored the Original Vista from HP rescue disk twice ,but of no use. I have bought the notebook just three months ago and my worry is that the HP support people here in bahrain do not seem to be very competitive.I have been asked to try a clean boot ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135) as suggested by HP Support thru email. The Bios too has been tried (upgrade/downgrade) and the Diagnostice tools from bios for HDD says all is well. Spent last two days and nights continiously without sleep (this has become a kinda challenge ) to find the source of the problem.
