The rumours surrounding the HP staff leave me in doubt :(

Sirs, I'm almost set up. But my audio does not work on XP. I've already downloaded a lot of drivers to try to fix it but still not working.

Besides that my quick buttons does not work as well...

    Any idea? mine is a dv6700 T9300.

    Hi,

For anyone who have problems with installing XP SP2 or SP3 with the audio and modem drivers in dv9700t , please follow the guide and install the UAA -> reboot -> audio -> reboot -> modem -> reboot.

at this step i got all the drivers installed but nothing works so I managed my way through by doing the following.

1 - open your device manager.
    2 - view -> show hidden devices
    3 - you will notice a yellow mark in a PCI-device
4 - right click on it and choose update driver.
5 - it will update it with the UAA driver and you will see the hardware checker is notifying you about installing the drivers for audio and modem.

Please give it a try as I'm enjoynig now my 9700t running XP SP3 with 3GB RAM without any virtual memory ;)

Sirs, I don't know if it can be helpful or not, but I solved the problem with the following steps:
    1) go to Device Manager
    2) "update driver" option for a PCI Device that was with a "!" sign
    3) Installing the audio software from the driver pack distributed here for dv6775. Actually it works with a lot of sound software that I've got from HP site.

I almost successfully downgraded my new dv2700. Please see details at:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=214395&page=3

The only thing that does not work after downgrade is MICROPHONE. Neither internal nor external. I am wondering if anybody has/had problems with microphone?
In control panel/sounds I can see the microphone as Conexant, it has volume all the way up, Mute box is disabled but set to true, Advanced button is disabled.
I tried both internal and external mics and none of them detects any sound. They are completely dead. Is that possible that Quicklaunch buttons interfere? I would appreciate any solution/hint.

I am using my laptop for all my telephone calls and will need to return it to HP, if mic does not work :=(

Thanks for the thread...wish I'da found this BEFORE I went through and figured it all out on my own (well with help from my Uncle of course)...woulda saved me some time! Thanks though.

Has anyone figured out what the hell that last Unknown Device is "located: on ICH8 blahbity blah" ??? This is with the dv9700t. I've seen tons of posts about it but no answers. I know it's ACPI, but that's about it.

    Also...

"Here is a driver pack for those that want to downgrade a dv67xxt. It does not include the dual core fix"

What is "the dual core fix"? I don't recall that from the process that I completed. Do I need that for the dv9700t?

Hmmmm...I just checked the driver pack to see if I was missing anything and I noticed an "HP Battery Check". I didn't install this driver. Since ACPI has to do with power management, I'm wondering if maybe this would get rid of the yellow bang on that last annoying "Unknown Device". Please let me know.

The only other difference (and I checked both the main pack and the dvx700 specific one) was the Dual Core hotfix. Again, I have not heard of this. Before installing I would like to know what this is about. Thanks.

Also...I used the same webcam drivers as what's in the pack, but my webcam looks like crap (the same as it did before installing the driver/software). Picture is very fuzzy. Does anybody elses look like this? Is it supposed to?

the battery check program is optional. the only purpose it serves is to tell us how much our battery decayed over time.... its good for the long run (like 4 years later). i noticed my old compaq's battery (from 2001 or so) had an ok battery, now its just plain bad. haha

the dual core fix is a registry entry that lets Windows XP handle 2 cores more efficiently.... there is a post here by Hackez (he included it in the pack when he first started it) including a link to microsoft's website which explains it....

    maybe this was it:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256

i hope that fix your issue.... if not, then try installing the SATA drivers from the pack, not the ones from the SATA folder... install the ones from the executable.

do you get some sort of ACPI error before you boot Windows? i hope not...

OK, first I want to thank all that put the time and effort into helping everyone! Great Job!

Now for my contribution. I tried for several days to downgrade to XP on a dv9035nr. Went through the guide and did all the steps correctly, the only issue was the sound problem that everyone seems to get.

My solution? Use a standard XP CD. I was using XP PRO STUDENT EDITION. This CD for some reason was NOT installing the necessary components for the PCI HD Bridge devices (modem and audio). I completely ran out of options and tried an XP PRO (not student edition) CD and everything installed without a problem. I don't know if this is an issue with all the student editions, or I just have a weird one, but it just wouldn't work. Armed with this knowledge, I used the student edition to install on a desktop with built-in audio as well. Low and behold, the same issue was on the desktop (unkown PCI device and no sound).

Anyone else using the student edition?

What's the difference between these drivers?

Can you give me a link, please? :)

What happens if one does? :S

I can only find some of the drivers (quick launch, network, hp update), chipset drivers, sata drivers etc, are not provided...

those statements were for users of dv6000 and dv9000... if i remember correctly, you have a dv6500.

the SATA drivers from the folder vs. the executable is that the folder ones are an older version and just enough to get your laptop to boot into Windows.

if you install the ICH8M drivers on a dv6000 or dv9000, its just not going to work... the dv6000 and dv9000 have ICH7M chipset, so they need drivers for ICH7M.

you have a dv6500 (according to my memory) so you will have to use the Driver Pack from this guide. dv6000 users and dv9000 users can simply visit the hp site to download the drivers.

link to Robvia's guide is on the bottom of my guide......

    http://www.nogodforme.com/HPDV6500T.htm

Robvia's guide is great because he tells dv6000/dv9000 users when they need specific drivers for their model.

    Hi!

Sorry if I'm reposting a previously asked question (as I probably am) but anyway.
I have a dv9685eo and I'm desperate to relieve it of Vista. Will this method, and all the drivers and whatnot, work with my laptop?

Thanks a lot, and sorry again.

Thanks for the reply. I'll read up on the hotfix. About the SATA drivers, The F6 ones I used when installing XP are the same as the ones in the pack and so is the intel matrix storage manager I installed later (I just happened to find them elsewhere) so that's definitely not it.

OK, I read up a little on the hotfix and it mentioned ACPI, so maybe it'll do the trick. Before installing though, I'd like to know if it's possible that this hotfix was already applied through Windows Update and how to check and see. (I have installed all priority AND optional updates from WinUpdate)

Also, if anybody can reply about the quality of the webcam, I would appreciate. When I say fuzzy, I mean lots of speckles/noise.

    Thanks again.

    Regarding MY HP Pavilion DV6580ee,
Just to report that I have now successfully installed XP on my C:\ (30GB)and WIN2003 sERVER ON d:\ (40GB)with the drivers from Mujjuman's pack (Same drivers for both OS).
The Ricoh 5-IN-1 Card reader doesnt work in win2k3. Tried different drivers in WIN2K3 ,including the one from mujjuman's pack but doesnt work. It works fine in XP as it is detected by WINXP Itself. Neways, who needs a card reader in a Server OS !!!
I have left another 130GB for OraApps Installation as E:\ and another 30GB as F:\ for General Data.

 Regarding the funny error of CHKDISK Mode:mad: , I have taken some action and the problem is resolved. There was no logic behind my action  , but it somehow worked ;) . Instead of installing WIN2K3 on C:\ ,I selected "install win2k3 on D:\". It then forced me to format c:\ as well as d:\. I formatted d:\ as NTFS WHILE c:\ aS fat32. I installed WIN2K3 on d:\ and checked, found all OK. Then I installed XP on C:\ and found all ok. Now it gives me an option at start to select the OS as XP or WIN2K3 Server. Both OS work fine and no CHKDISK problems encountered, so far.

:p Thanks to you guys there, I have finally succeeded!!! :p
Pls keep up the good work :) :) .
    Kudos !!!

The strange and confusing thing is, in the upper right corner of my laptop screen, it reads 'dv6000', while in DXDIAG it reads 6500 and on the packaging which the computer arrived in, it says dv6515eo...

During my first attempt to get XP, I installed the ICH7-M, which didn't work and gave me a blue screen before booting into Windows.
Next, I tried the ICH8-M, which, according to the windows device manager (and HP drivers page), is used by my model.
I followed the link named "HP" that you posted in the guide and found out that after a comparison between that dv6xxx and my laptop, the hardware configuration was nearly identical. The only differences were graphics and OS -related. That dv6xxx used intel intergrated graphics instead of geforce and Windows XP (hence the drivers) instead of Vista Home...
Shouldn't these drivers be excactly what I'm looking for in that case?
That XP-based model also used an ICH8-Chipset configuration...

    yes it will work.

i heard that the hotfix isnt applied through Windows Update.
my camera isnt the clearest of things, but it doesnt have lots of noise and speckles....

hmm thats weird.... but glad it worked!
i think you just had to install the more recent OS first.

dv6500 is a sub-series of dv6000. i have a dv9500 CTO and it says dv9000 too. your specific model number (dv6515) just lets you know what different hardware you might have.

i dont know exactly what drivers ur talking about, but i'd suggest that you use the driver pack...

Okay :) I consider making a new slipstream. Since the sata drivers from the executable are newer than the ones in the folder, I presume they would be the best ones to use?

Also, is it safe to use XP CD's with any language other than English? Swedish, for instance?
I'll get my notebook back from repair soon, hopefully it'll be fixed. I'm just not sure wether the sata driver used in this pack could be corrupt or something, since I think it has thrashed two hard drives (or maybe the drives themselves were just bad).

no way... i doubt the drivers caused a hardware failure. the system would give a BSOD and halt before it did anything...

i hope your laptop gets fixed too. its safe to use other languages. but the drivers are from american sources (except 2, they are from taiwan)

OK...One last thing about the hotfix....I noticed that there is an EXE file and reg files with the hotfix included in the driver pack, but the one on MS's website is just the EXE file. Might I ask what the reg files are for and if it's better to use the one in the driver pack rather than the one off of MS's website?

I will also post a screenshot of my camera so you can better compare to yours and maybe we can figure out what's going on.

    *EDIT*
I've started another thread about the webcam with a screenshot. You can find it here. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=226230

    I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

I installed the hotfix (the one from the driver pack) and ran the "enable hotfix" reg file. This hotfix did not get rid of that last annoying yellow bang. I ran the reg file BEFORE restarting if that makes a difference, but I don't see why it would.

    the device is...

    Type: Unknown Device
Location: on Intel ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2815
    Hardware ID: ACPI\HPQ0007\4&2FFE84EA&0

If anybody knows what the heck this is...please let me know.

Also, If running the "enable hotfix" reg file BEFORE restarting the computer (after the install of the hotfix) made any difference please let me know.

    thanks.

Sorry for the tripple post here, but that hotfix seems to have decreased my performance. I started noticing very choppy playback of my HighRes h264 files (that wasn't there before) so i uninstalled the hotfix and the choppy playback got way worse.

I reinstalled the hotfix only this time I restarted the computer after the install and ran the "enable hotfix" reg file AFTER the restart. Choppy playback seems to have disappeared. Interesting. I don't see why that would make any difference.

    Hey Mujjaman!

I contacted the repair center today and according to the technician, they installed an all-new heatsink system in my laptop, so all the weird noises will finally be gone for good :D :D They didn't install a new hard drive though. They said that they couldn't find any errors with the one currently in use. I guess I'll have to trust them on that, perhaps those quiet clicks are nothing to be concerned about...
Anyway, I'll receive my laptop later next week :)

Is the Driverpack 1.10 compatible with the 65xx series even though its tagged "95xx"?

    How is this coming?

Which driver pack did you use? I think you should use my pack, but I think that the audio may be conexant and maybe the NIC is conexant as well? Did you use Everest before the downgrade to view hardware? It should have told you what NIC and Audio you have. Also, if I had to guess, the USB roots are the Ricoh card readers.

I'm glad someone had the courage to downgrade their bios and try XP on a 2700. Very risky, but I thought it would work.

Just installed XP on my dv6700t using the drivers. However, I still have one unkown device in there. I'm not sure if it's the chipset of what. I installed it and it seemed successful. Can anyone figure this out? Thanks. Here's a pic below.

    Thank you very much!

I was having problems getting the sound to work, but that was because of my win xp installation, it was slipstreamed with a bunch of audio drivers. in my case they were installed before the uaa drivers causing the annoyable yellow question mark "PCI Device" not to go away. With a clean win xp installation everything worked finbe.

    Thank you man!

I was just wondering, has anyone tried to slipstream the entire Driverpack onto their Windows XP CD? Would that work or make it corrupt (taking the special order of installation into consideration) ?

I tried with xp sp3 slipstreamed (which is supposed to have uaa built in) and it wouldn't work either.

    Hi all,

I have installed XP HE on hp9780 and everything works fine except one unknown device in device manager - on Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2815. A chipset drivers taken from Intel page and installed correctly. No idea what it can be? Does/did anyone of you have a similar problem? How to resolve it?
