It is NOT possible to downgrade the bios on the new Penryn dv2700t. Forcing a bios update will brick your notebook. The hardware is not compatible.
To install Windows XP on the new dv2700t (my bios is F.28) you must slipstream the drivers for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. For this to work you must choose the textmode driver that is compatible with the SATA controller on your system. The exact chipset may vary depending on your cpu and notebook model.
For the new 45nm Penryn dv2700t notebooks (Core 2 Duo T9300) this is the correct textmode driver:
Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)
You will still need to use F7 to bypass the bluescreen at windows setup.
You can get the drivers here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!
For some reason after I reformatted and reinstalled Vista and then tried to boot the Windows XP cd-rom (to install for dual-boot) the Windows XP setup locked after attempting to detect my hardware. Booting into the Vista setup and deleting the partitions solved this problem. Suffice to say that you'll have to install XP first if you plan to dual-boot.
A really easy way to figure out which textmode drivers to use is to look at what IDE/SATA controller came pre-installed with Vista.
Without ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) Windows XP can't throttle the CPU. In my professional opinion I believe that the temperature that this notebook reaches in this state is very unsafe and I cannot recommend doing this to your system.
-
install UAA first!
then install realtek HD audio
go to "system properties", then go to the "device manager"
under "system devices" look for "! PCI Device" (it will have an exclamation mark on it - !)
right-click that and click update driver
and you should be set
i agree that the laptop would get pretty hot if the CPU is always on full power mode. not to mention the fan will be always on and will also deplete the battery quicker. -
Hi all
Still going fine with the 156.83 NVIDIA drivers. Dinnerbell, I had the same IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error occur on my desktop. Dreaded is definitely the right word for it, took me 12 hours to save off my data and format.
The reason serial shows up with an exclamation mark is simply the fact that no computers in the dv series have a serial port, so the driver can't start. Same with the parport driver. My system doesn't show up the keyboard filter either, don't know what that could be.
If you suspect the HP Integrate module, I would say run a repair of XP (restoring all original drivers) and then try installing all the latest drivers (Intel chipset, realtek audio, try the 156.83 NVIDIA drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, wifi, get others from the driver pack) except the HP Module. See if it works.
Good Luck

To those people requesting a torrent
I would be happy to set up a torrent of the driver pack. I'm always way under on my download budget anyway. I would need as many people as possible to help out by downloading the torrent and keeping it running on their computer so others can download it as I have a low upload speed.
Before anyone jumps forward to volunteer I would like to clear this with mujjuman first.

yeah no prob man
that would be very helpful!

YES... that's it!!
If i restart the system after the BSOD (without touching the switch again), it boots up fine! But EVERYTIME i toggle the bluetooth switch (from OFF->ON) while the system is OFF causes a BSOD on the next startup! and then will work fine. so the lesson of this story is... don't toggle your hardware bt/wifi switch when the system is off!
I wonder if another driver version will fix this, or do i have to just live with it?
Can anybody else with a dv9706tx/dv97xx verify this?
I'm installing XP from an integrated Driverpack XP DVD (quite tricky), and i didn't have to install drivers for most of the devices! (only the five i mentioned earlier), so i don't think it's necessary, and the driverpacks are a great way to avoid a lot of the hassles!!! the best would be if somebody could integrate all the drivers mentioned here on an XP disk and upload that! You'd of course have to use your own serial then.
On a tangent, i had an interesting panic attack yesterday, when suddenly the laptop would make loud beeping noise during startup and nothing would open after OS was booted up (i.e. before i could do anything the menu was closed everytime i clicked on it, or right clicked, or pressed ctrl+alt+del).
After several ear splitting restarts, despair, and anger, i figured out the problem. Can you guess what it was? I first thought it was a virus or something...
anyway the answer is:
Code:The escape key was stuck!
-
^ lol that happened to me on my desktop a couple times... the SHIFT key was stuck. the first time i heard it, i freaked out too.
are you sure you have Bluetooth hardware on your computer? i didnt slipstream any extra drivers on my WinXP CD and it works fine.
just as a test, try to install XP using a disk with only SATA drivers. i know it sucks big time to go through the long process of installing the drivers, but IN MY OPINION this is one of the better ways to troubleshoot the problem. -
pls some one tell me how to install xp on dv2750. i m really sick of this vista. want to install xp. there must be some way of doing it. pls pls pls some one help me out with it.
I shall be really glad -
im just messin with u bro. just read the first page.
but before you do, post up your specs so we know if u have an AMD or an intel -
I have
2.2Gz Intel Core2duo processor T7500
128mb nvidia 8400m GS
160 gb HDD
2gb ram
what i concluded after read is i have to make the cd of xp whic should have all the drivers but the thing is from where should i get the SATA driver. Other option that i got is to downgrade bios to F13 where as I have F25. Now suggest me what should i do. -
the SATA drivers are in the Driver Pack to begin with. they are in a folder called "SATA Drivers"
all the drivers are already here in the Driver Pack.
copy the contents of the XP CD to a folder on your hard drive
now you need to download is a program called "nLite" from www.nLiteOS.com and also the Driver Pack from this thread
then follow the steps to slipstream (or include) the SATA driver onto the XP CD
then finally burn the CD -
well fellas ive read up quite a bit on this awesome topic. i recently purchased a dv9700t
t9300 2.5ghz
2 gig ram
250 sata
8600 gs
bluetooth + wireless N + fingerprint reader
i checked with everest and my bios is version f51. so if you guys dont see me post back in a hour or so... its because im reinstalling vista. man i hope this works, cause vista sucks. -
back on with windows XP PRO SP2 INSTALLED!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOOOO!!!
mujj awesome instructions. i do have 1 unknown device could it be the hp battery install cause thats only thing i havent installed due to having to have netframework.
also my function + f6/f7 doesnt work to dim and brighten my display.
*****NOTE***** make sure you have your bluetooth enabled when installing the driver for it or it wont install. i will post some more later as i am tired now. -
thats cool!!
about your unknown device....
did you install quicklaunch buttons from Vista's SWSETUP folder?
touchpad driver?
does your sound work?
try right-clicking the unknown device and click update driver and see if that fixes it
but first, try installing the quicklaunch buttons from Vista's SWSETUP folder (QLB)
that should fix the dimmer buttons too -
Sigh, it's terrible of MS/HP to cause so many users, so much stress! But still i know better now, and will purchase XP loaded laptops. Don't know if i want to sell off this laptop now, or what.
Anyway KingTut I'm glad things worked out for you! even in just 2 hours! I've spent way more time on all of this!. Oh well... enjoy.

Hi all
Disaster has struck! My desktop has cooked its graphics card cos of a fan failure. So I'm stuck on my laptop until get repairs under my extended warranty. Ok, for the torrent. Anyone interested in helping should send me a PM and I'll workout a day to keep my system online for people to download the torrent to get it spread. I'll probably select a few people only for a start but will get back to anyone who volunteers eventually.

thats a good way to start

Thanx for that. My mistake. It should've read DV9700. Here is an update for the briliant installation instructions.
1. Got SATA driver direct from HP online chat support team. Unpacked into a folder for slipstream CD. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...softwareitem=ob-51521-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
2. I followed your guide step by step. Absolutly no problem. Win XP Home (IN Spanish mind you) installed well & all is ok on that part, all validated & registered with MS.
Ensured prior to it, that the XP CD was copied to a folder on the C.
3. Got NIC driver from HP & installed OK. I did this first to be able to download & browse the net: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33645.exe
4. Got Chipset drivers from Intel & instal OK. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101
5. I am now trying to install the VGA for the 8400m GS. All the various versions of theforceware that I have tried display a message that the relevant device could not be found. I also tried to install via the device manager. No go. I tried forceware for the 8400 but no go. NVIDIA download select list does not even list the card! The various forcewares that I tried are: 163.75 & 156.55 & 169.21, HP's own SP34044, Dell's R158222 & R165714. I don't know what else to do.
Can someone help please?
Many thanx
---------------
Thanx again GrandAdmiral for the VGA solution furthe down. Here is how I continued...
1. Downloaded the nVidia Forceware 156.83 from www.laptopvideo2go.com's 1st page for Win xp 32. Also (as a just in case), downloaded & placed in the same extracted folder the moded INF; INF-NVLT, which is the tab next to the download.
2. Via Hp's download centre I searched for say: "RTL8186B Drivers". This showes a search list of which the first few should match. I selected the correct one & in the following panel it shows the file name. Download & instal. Repeat it for "intel 3945 Wifi"; SP33404, "HP webcam": SP33544, "Motorola SM56"; SP34733, "Ricoh Cardreader"; SP37809. Either use the search keywords given or the SP number direct from the FTP.
Google "realtek HDI-WDM_R190" for the sound driver. I know about the misspelling... it is "realtec" that worked for me. Don't forget to install the modem AFTER the sound. Any PCI devices not recognised (as detailed in the ist thread), just update the driver from its screens.
The only driver outstanding for me is the Bluetooth which, I will defer.
Good luck -
-
Hi Madnad
To my knowledge no major graphics card manufacturer support laptop cards directly from their site. You're exactly right in observing the card isn't even listed because the NVIDIA support for it is non existent. You need to go to laptopvideo2go.com or use the drivers included in the driver pack which are modded drivers (modified to skip the hardware check and tweaked for laptop chips). I've been using the 156.83 driver from laptopvideo2go.com (it should be listed on the very first page) and had no problems.
Everyone else, I'll be preparing the torrent within the next few days. So volunteer before then please!
Good Luck

hi
i do have a problem with Ethernet controllers, I installed XP, computer is hp s3010.uk, everything works but not internet, what can i do or where can i find drivers, when i will use another NIC with drivers will be ok ? -
Hi All
Omer.rehan, sound problems are commonly because the driver has not installed properly. Check device manager and look for the UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio. If its not installed then go into Program Files->Realtek->Audio->Install shield and run KB888111 to install the Bus Driver and then re-run the audio driver install. For the PCI Express port, ensure you've installed the latest version of the Intel chipset drivers then uninstall the port driver through device manager and reinstall it. What does the wireless card say in device manager and check the status in the Intel Wireless software.
Infected, try the URL on the very first page of this thread (in the section for dv2500). No guarantees.
Mister TBD, ensure you've installed the latest version of the chipset drivers then reinstall the driver through device manager.
arkadio30, I also had problems with my ethernet drivers. Unfortunately I forgot to record which driver I eventually used. Does the ethernet connection work at all or is it completely dead? What model is the ethernet card?
Hope this helps.
Grand Admiral -
if not, then you can try and download the quicklaunch button software for Vista from th hp website and install those and see if that fixes the problems. -
Base System Device PCI bus 7 , device 9, function 2,3,4 -
Mister TBC
These are other components of your card reader. You need to install each driver manually by selecting each component and searching the driver folders for the card reader (eg, the MS, XD, SDMMC folders) until the correct driver for each device is found.
Grand Admiral -
yeah let us know if that worked

what to do now. also pls tell me why my notebook is not automattically turning off. y i have to shut it down manually. -
great guide mujjuman! i read at least 50 posts from this thread and all post from the earlier thread from a few months ago in preparation to transition vista to xp.
After reading hundreds of post in this forum i decided that i will first try dual booting and sort everything out with xp. The reason i want to keep vista is because i use media center quite often and also because i read that the ir remote control wont work on xp so i could still use it in vista.
The guide is great and crystal clear! thanks for taking the time to post the explanations and for all the pics included. I have one question though, i know your guide does not include the "steps" to dual boot, once i have the xp slipstreamed cd and i boot from cd can i install xp on a different partition and keep my current vista setup? my concern is that i dont want to loose any of the files in vista.. is there a risk i will loose those files? or will it install on the new partition i setup and not touch vista at all?
one more thing, i've been trying to download the driverpack for days and days and everytime it says all slots are taken or something... is there an alternate link?
grand admiral: did you ever get the torrent up and running?
Alex -
i dont know if you downgraded your BIOS or not, but there is an "installing XP on dv2700 thread" and they talk about which BIOS to downgrade to.
i will try to help you troubleshoot your system, but you have to be willing to wipe out your newly installed XP. hopefully you didnt customize it alot and didnt install any programs or anything.
reinstall Vista using the Recovery Disks.
see if the Shut down problem is gone. see if the wireless now works.
if they work correctly, youll have to downgrade your BIOS.
there is a "installing XP on dv2700" thread on here (there is a link in my guide, see the link which points to the thread where i say "confirmed not working for dv2700"
the people who posted in that thread will let you know which BIOS to downgrade to, and please be careful when you do so. it would suck waaaay more to have a dead laptop than to use Vista
once the BIOS downgrade is complete, reinstall XP and see if those problems persist.
remember, we cannot correctly troubleshoot and determine the cause of the problem if you do not reinstall Vista again
the IR Remote definitely works in XP. i use it in Windows Media Player and it works just fine. it works great in Media Player Classic too. i havent tried other players though. i love the remote haha
i have not tried dual boot, and i dont know if you should install XP first, or install XP last.... but i know that it has been successfully done before. there is an excellent guide done by a user here that will help you out more because of your specific plans.the link is at the bottom of my guide, his username is "Robvia".
just to warn you, XP will prevent Vista from booting. all of the files will be there, but the hard drive's boot table thing (sorry i dont know the actual term) will be rewritten to only boot XP. you will need to "fix" your Master Boot Record so that it boots Vista AND WinXP.
but other than that problem, the slipstreamed disk from this guide will work, and so will all the drivers (provided you have a dv6*** or dv9***)
so yes, you can install XP on another partition without damaging Vista's files.... except for the Master Boot Record, which will have to be modified to included Vista and XP.
about the Driver Pack, the torrent is being set up soon thanks to GrandAdmiral
let me check the Driver Pack link real quick...
it works for me.... no slots taken or anything (checked about 10PM Eastern Time)
sorry about teh popup though, they ddint have popups before.
there shouldnt be any "slots". just type the three-letter code and wait about 45 seconds before clicking "Download Now" -
ok, avillabon, i have another warning/tip/heads up for you.
once you create your partitions, and Vista is already installed on the first partition, just go ahead and install XP on the second partition.
from my previous post, we know that XP's boot record will prevent Vista from booting, although Vista's files etc will stay intact on the other partition.
the thing is, in order to get Vista to boot again AND get XP to as well (dual boot) you will need an original Vista DVD. you can borrow a friend's DVD for this... or you can download/burn the DVD from Microsoft (without a Product Key ofcourse, unless you want to pay for that). if you are gong to download the DVD, i suggest you do that before installing XP
anyway, boot using the Vista DVD (after installing XP) and click "Repair Vista Installation" or something along those lines and then click "Startup Repair"
that will delete XP's boot record and reinstate Vista's boot record.
Now you will be able to go back to Vista, but not XP (all of XP's files are intact though). since Vista's boot record is newer, it is more advanced. Vista's boot record can read XP, but not vice-versa, thats why we need to reinstate Vista's boot record.
in Vista, download and install "EasyBCD" which is an awesome program
Add a new entry and choose the partition in which XP is installed.
Reboot and hope for the best
