well i m ready to install vista but the thing is that last time i tried installing vista with my recovery disk it wiped off everything of my HDD. i had to make partitions with alot of pain specially in reducing C below 50% capacity.. though m still willing. can do anything to get xp back. i will report back one vista is installed.

Hey, I am going to search through this thread to see if you already answered elsewhere, but I do not see HP integrated module, and the sound is the last remaining issue I have in this whole process (everything else worked beautifully <3)
-
should take a few hours.
-
did you order Bluetooth with your laptop? if you didnt, then you wont see the HP Integrated Module.
for the sound, i need to know if you have a dv2*** laptop or a dv6*** or dv9*** laptop
dv2*** laptops use a Conexant sound driver
the other two use Realtek sound drivers
both of those require UAA to be installed first -
my cd/dvd writer went bad :\ got hp shipping me a new one. that should be fun getting it in afghanistan. also on Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2815 still hasnt been fixed and i tried the quick launch install but it hasnt fixed it. anyone with a dv9700t fix this problem? im thinking about just doing another reformat and install.
-
whoa dude ur in afgh? how do you find time to mess around with laptops
jk. but did you install quicklaunch buttons from the SWSETUP folder?
and would hp really ship something out there? haha -
I've been using windows Xp since september without any problem wit anythin.Of course thx to mujjuman and hackez.
Despite the fact,i 've got real issue now..I m not able to find the cause of my problem.Im owner of Hp pav dv6500 SE wit Intel 3945ABG.
I've been disconnected from my Access Point.Speed jumps all the time till it's 0Mbps and then i'm disconnected..When i used Asus laptop, there were no problems.i found out there is no problem wit my AP but unfortunetly wit my HP
What should have been corrupted?Ive been strugglin wit this whole day... -
Thanks to mujjuman to opening this kind of thread.
i bought a hp pavillion 6607TX recently, it came with Vista. i want to install Xp to it. coz Vista giving me headach. it's eating my 1GB of memory.
so i want to know is these drivers are competible to my laptop? (the drivers u guys have uploaded)
thanks. -

I think it's finally gone..I spent whole day in front of my desk by dealing with the problem.I reinstalled whole system and the problem were there somewhere so far.I tried to disable Wireless zero configuration and then Enable it ( I need it if i want to connect at my school ) .
It's restarted my connection every second almost... I'm watchin wireless event now..Will see if i can beat this thing up
I was in kind of thinking something wrong wit Intel Wireless .I found sth cool during my searching on net..It's Intel PROSet/Wireless which is sth like I used to have in Vista - wireless assistant..
There are good features and it's working perfectly.
What i miss really much it's power management..To adjust Cpu speed .
It's the only one reason why i'm thinking about getting Vista back.. -
Greetings.... just want to thank you all for posting this information. I'm getting ready to order a 9700t and absolutely don't want Vista for all the good reasons you know. You've made the daunting task of installing xp on this so much more managable - I'm sure I'll have a few questions as I go along... thanks again - Tod

i have installed xp using ur guide ,but i m getting this message "Event Monitor User Notification Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close" at login
And my fingerprint reader is not working , the driver is installed successfully though . please help -

Hey everyone!
Everything is still going smooth with XP but there is one small oddity that makes me a little worried.
I sometimes get an error message saying that windows needs to shutdown due to some error with the "Remote Procedure Call". I have 60 seconds to save all my work before windows restarts...
I've googled this one and some websites suggest that I've been infected with the blaster worm but the removal tool can't find anything...
Has anyone else encountered this? -
yeah dude.... its because of that worm. youll have to reinstall XP and BEFORE you even connect to the internet, arm yourself with a good firewall.
i never saw that error in SP1 and SP2, only in the original "Gold" edition of XP (years ago)
so get either SP1 or SP2 (or SP3? but i never tried it besides VMWare) -
Shouldn't my current firewall (Kaspersky Internet Security) disinfect the blaster worm? I think the virus is pretty old..
I can't get SP3 RTM yet 'cause I use a swedish edition of XP, so I'll have to wait -
Does anyone know if there are versions of the HP QuickPlay, DirectPlay, and QuickTouch software that are compatible with 32-bit WindowsXP Home Edition?
-
honestly man, quickplay and directplay isnt worth it, and you can use better players.
directplay is not compatible with our chipset anyway. -
-
Any idea if these programs are available on WinXP and where?
Also, how do I get the DVD and QuickPlay media touch buttons on my dv6500t to work? Can I slave those two hot keys so they do something else, like open a different application? If so, how? Do I need a driver or? -
using those buttons havent been figured out yet. i think they dont even work when XP is installed.
-
I'm guessing that you can get the OS to pick them up, but you'd need software of some sort to do something with them. Google for apps made for this purpose and you should be able to find something that can configure multimedia key functions more so than the default software.
-
So my 9700t is coming soon - when I upgrade to XP, am I better off using the driver package from mujjuman or therulebookman ? Thanks - Tod
-
I've compiled a torrent of the driver pack, i'm going to get my boss to try and download it to test and then it'll be available to download.
Grand Admiral -
Thanks a lot mujjuman for this guide, I was able to follow this guide easily and installed XP on my dv2500t.
I finished installation last night, most of the things went fine but I am having problems with display. When I start my computer and log in to any user (2 user account are set up on the computer, currently both are admin), the screen goes completely blank and I don't see anything, then there is small popup of the HP wireless assistant that shows up. After waiting for a while I switched the user using Ctrl+Alt+Del and going to task manager. The second user loaded without any problem.
This problem occurs no matter which user I log in first.
Does any one have any idea what could be done here ?
Thanks,
Mohit -
Nice info, but I have one problem! I Downgraded my Laptop one in the DV6000 series (dv6599eo) and I´ve got everything right accept one unit in device manager called Unknown device. I have installed Intel Chipset, nVidia GFX Driver, UAA, Audio (only Realtec, worked for me if I took WDL-R190), CardReader, Touchpad, Webcam, WLAN, Reltec NIC Driver, Bluetooth & Fingerprint. What can I have missed?
Thanks! -

Got my display problem fixed by uninstalling HP wireless assistant.
Please help me with my final problem:
I have 160GB HD, of which C: is 120 GB, while installing xp I created a D: partition of around 8 GB and left the rest of the space unpartitioned for quickplay.
Is there a way to created a 1GB space for quickplay and how do i do that ?
Thanks -
Thank you mujjuman for your very helpful information for the way to downgrade to XP. I have the hp dv 9710 ev laptop and i`m going to use the guide at next week to downgrade to XP. Do you think it works for me? Once again thank you!!!

im being 100% honest and sincere... but i dont think dv2700 users should install XP on their laptops. this is because you will have to downgrade your BIOS and by doing so, you will lose alot of functionality
-
Thanks so much for all the instruction! All is working well that I've tried so far (audio, video, etc) except I have 1 unknown device, looks like this:
location: on intel ICHM LPC Interface Controller - 2815
Device Instance Id: ACPI\HPQ0007\4&2FFE84EA&0
Hardware Id: ACPI\HPQ0007
I tried to update/reinstall the driver with no luck. Can anyone help with this? THANK YOU AGAIN! - Tod -
Never mind.... fixed it with a reinstall of quick launch buttons from Vista version - can't thank you guys enough, this was pretty painless - Tod

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for giving information to make the Vista to XP possible. I absolutely love XP, but I have one problem. Whenever I'm playing my iTunes or watching a movie in .avi, mpg, mpeg, etc format, my screen will freeze up for about 20 seconds - 1 minute or so, and when it "unfreezes" the movie/song will begin playing again, but it isn't where it was when the notebook 'froze'. I was watching Cloverfield earlier today and noticed that it froze at 58:04, but when it started playing again it was at 59:02, so it's like everything stops, but it's still going, only I can't hear or see it. I don't know if that makes sense. I installed all the drivers in order, except for the fingerprint reader and the battery check. I don't care for my fingerprint reader anymore, and the battery check give me a "Please install the Microsoft .NET framework before installing the Battery Check." Any ideas as to how to get my videos and songs to stop periodically freezing?
Also, I'd like to note that my friend was the one that installed XP SP2 on to my notebook. He did that and installed the chipset driver, then I did all the driver installations after the chipset in the order that they were supposed to be installed. -

Just out of interest does anyone know why the heat is concentrated over the HDD? On my last laptop it was the RAM cover that had the most heat.

Thanks for this great guide!
However, I have reinstalled several times and my SD card reader won't work. When I insert a card and try to read it, I get an I/O error. This problem exisits with the internal card reader as well as an external USB card reader.
The Device Manager Secure Digital host controllers listing has one entry:
SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller (Microsoft 6.0.4069.1)
Is this the source of the problems?
Thanks,
Jim
P.S. I used driver pack 1.10 -
Do any missing devices show up in device manager? The card reader is made of four drivers (in my case anyway) two of these are marked SD so the other driver may be missing. If missing they will appear as 'Base System Device' on the same bus as the SD controller.

EDIT:
I also figured I should give some of the specs for my notebook, just in case it was a question.
dv9500t
Intel Duo Core Processor: 2.2Ghz
Hard Drive: 160GB
Graphics Card: nVidia Geforce 8600M
Audio: Realtek HD Audio
Here's a picture:
Under 'Computer' it has:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
T7500 @2.20GHz
2.19GHz, 2.00GB of RAM
Physical Address extension
Why does it say 2.19GHz?
. I transferred the video files from an external HD that I put the videos on before switching to XP. When I try to play the video in a different video player, like Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime, Media Player Classic, etc, they will play, but it freezes up like I stated above. DivX and VLC are really the only players that will play them, but they have a green line in both DivX and VLC, BUT they play perfectly fine. Should I delete the video files and try transferring them to my notebook again? I'm guessing a few of the videos got damaged while putting them on the External HD, or putting them back on my notebook.
Also, a quick question about Codecs. Is it best to have only ONE codec? I had multiple ones installed, and the videos didn't play in VLC Player, but once I uninstalled all but K-Lite they worked fine on VLC, except for the ones with the green line. I had multiple codecs installed prior to switching from Vista to XP, and I didn't have that problem. If it's best to have only one, which is the best one?
Sorry for the problems! I'm a Kinesiology major, so you can see that I don't work with computers other than for entertainment/classes. I'm not the smartest when it comes to computers, so sorry if these problems and questions are obvious to you guys. Thanks again.

prob one of the most mind-boggling problems....
yeah its better to have only one codec pack installed. i suggest uninstalling all codecs and only reinstalling one. as for which codec pack is the best... thats up to you. everyone has their preferences.
try using the one that has support for the most popular formats. then check to see if the videos will play better.
about your freezing problem, i really dont know. i was going to blame it on your video card but that should not be the case.
your CPU shows 2.19GHz which is fine.
about the noise..... is it a buzzing noise? if you have funny noises coming from your computer (and not from the speakers) then there could be a hardware malfunction -
I have K-Lite installed, and the videos are working properly.
The noise is a really loud beep type of noise. It comes from the computer when it freezes to the point where it doesn't unfreeze and I hit a button. If you hit a button reapetidly while the computer is loading up you will sometimes get the noise I'm talking about. If you go in to your system specs when you have the option of doing that, restoring by F11, or the other ones, and you hit the right key when it can't go over any more it'll give you that noise. It's not a buzzing noise.
I have 5 out of date drivers, would that make it have that problem? The out of date drivers I have are:
1) IEE 1394 Bus host controllers
- OHCI Compliant IEE 1394 Host Controller
2) Network adapters
- Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
3) Sound, video and game controllers
- Realtek High Definition Audio
4) System Devices
- Intel(R) 82801BAM/CAM PCI Bridge - 2448
- Intel(R) ICH8 Family SmBus Controller - 283E -
i doubt it, but it wont hurt to update....

Okay, first off, I have got to give mad props out to mujjuman for putting together a terrific guide along with the applicable driver pack that is found in DriverPack v1.10.
I had purchased an HP dv6500t about six months ago that came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium, and quite frankly, I hated it. So, I went through mujjs' guide and followed it exactly. Within a short time, I became the happy (and quite exuberant!) new owner of an HP dv6500t with Windows XP Home Edition installed on it.
THANK YOU mujjuman! You have really given my laptop a new life!
Quick question for anyone that cares to field it. I am using the nVidia driver 101.34 that came in the driver pack v1.10. My question is if anyone has tried using an updated version that works as well as the 101.34?
I am mainly concerned about hibernation and standby issues that plague a lot of the nVidia laptop drivers, so I wanted to know if anyone else had luck with an updated driver for an 8400M GS 128MB videocard in an dv6500t.
Thanks! =)Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
hey man, im glad that my guide and the Driver Pack (started by Hackez) helped you installed XP on your laptop!
GrandAdmiral uses the 156.83 driver from laptopvideo2go.com and he said that it works fine. i havent used it myself, but he has confirmed its compatibility -
Everything works great on my hp dv9710ev after the downgrade to XP except quickplay and dvd buttons ( that was only to be expected ) but i have already create a small partition just like you, in case if you ever fix this problem i`ll be ready to install them.Thank you very much mujjuman for this great guide!!!
