hey guys. Its been a few days since my last post where i said i would attempt to roll back to windows xp from vista.

I decided to go xp 64 instead of xp 32 bit.

Finally today i got the time to install xp (64 bit) and when i open nlite to begin the slipstreaming i get an error (see attachment) which is regarding the version of the sata drivers, in this case them beign 32 bit instead of 64 bit.

Does this mean the driverpack i downloaded from this thread will not work if i want to install windows xp 64 bit? where could i get drivers for that installation?

Has anyone managed to install windows xp 64 on a dv9500 successfully before?

    thanks

    Alex

I decided to get something off of www.finallyfast.com that advertised that one of their programs could stop your computer from freezing, so I bought it. After doing a scan of my computer, it said that I had over 30 errors, 13 of which were registry errors, so I clicked "Fix it Now" on the program, and it said that the errors were fixed. I'm now waiting to see if it did indeed fix my problem.

If it didn't work, could I just reinstall XP Service Pack 2 without doing all the Sata stuff since XP is already installed on my laptop, or would I have to go through all the crap again? If I could just pop in the XP SP2 disc and have it install it without having to go through the Sata stuff again, that's what I'll do.

If the SATA drivers were slipstreamed as in the guide then you should be good able to reinstall xp from the disc you made without having to do anything extra. You will still have to install the rest of the drivers after the xp install is complete though.

    Hi all

Its dead. My notebook is dead. So now I'm without a computer of my own. And so is the torrent unfortunately. I'll have to rebuild it when either of my computers get fixed. Looks like I overstrained the hard drive running defrag and a game at once and something snapped. Not happy

thanks for the link mujjuman! I guess it was the right sata driver since xp64 installed with no problems. :)

Im having a couple issues though...

The file you included with the driver pack which explains the order in which driver should be installed says the following:

Order Which Drivers Should Be Installed:

    Intel Chipset Drivers
    Intel Matrix Storage Manager Drivers
Nvidia Forceware Graphic Drivers (Or Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Drivers)
    Realtek Ethernet Drivers
    UAA Audio Drivers
Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers WDM
    Motorola Modem Drivers
    Synaptics Touchpad Drivers
    hp Quick Launch Drivers
    Intel Pro Wireless Drivers
hp Bluetooth Drivers (Simply skip if your Laptop does not have Bluetooth)
hp Wireless Assistant (Optional, some enjoy using it)
    Ricoh 5-1 Card Reader Drivers
    Webcam Drivers
    Fingerprint Reader
    TV Tuner
    hp Battery Check

I followed it in the order stated above but i ran into some problems with two of them. "Nvidia Forceware Graphic Drivers" (nv_gfgo_101.34-2kxp32) and "Synaptics Touchpad Drivers" (synaptics-touchpad---sp35444). I took a screenshot of each error message which i have attached in this post. When i got the error for each of these i just moved ahead to the next driver in the list. When i installed them all i went to laptopvideo2go and downloaded the latest driver for xp64 with a modded inf and the installation worked with no problems, i believe my video drivers are working fine. But im still missing the synaptics one. All other installations worked perfectly even though the driver pack by mujjuman was mostly for 32 bit version of xp right? Is it terrible i went ahead and installed those drivers? will i have problems down the road? I still havent figured everything out yet since i have 3 exclamation marks in the device manager (im guessing the synaptics one is one of them).

how can i figure out what im missing?

Thanks for your help, sorry for the long post!

    yup its normal.

as for installing 32bit drivers for a 64bit OS... i dont know if it is the best of ideas. you got those errors because they were meant for the 32bit XP. but if they work without problems, then i guess its ok. but im not giving any guarantees. the driver pack drivers were only tested working for 32bit XP (not even 32bit Win2003)

if it works right now, then it should work in the future as well. atleast you are running an OS that you like.

man its really sad to hear that. will check the thread out

there was a new post here about Vista wims.... but its gone now?

    Dear mujjuman,

freestylegreek has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to
entitled - Installing Windows XP on the Intel based dvx500t Series - in the
HP & Compaq forum of Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion.

    This thread is located at:

Here is the message that has just been posted:
    ***************
K im going to be getting a HP laptop soon and wanted to get some
questions answered. I asked Orev privately but he suggested i post my
    questions here.

So what i wanted to know is how does one make a update vista dvd? Like
how many dvd discs do i really need? On top of the
drivers/applications, restore discs and what else am i missing?

My other question is what are these wim files and what do i do with
them? It says make a bootable disc but do i have to like click the exe
    file and it does something?

Just very confused by all this clean install process. I might just buy
an oem and format and back up the drivers and contact microsoft and ask
them to activate it cause at least its less stressful and less
confusing and i dont need to go through at least 5 or 6 discs to get a clean
    install happening.

But if anyone can help me out let me know.

    Finally, good news!

After being jerked around for almost a month about my desktop I was completely blown away when, less than 24hrs after reporting my hard disk failure to HP, a courier didn't show up. Instead I got a tech from the next town at my door with a brand new hard drive which HP had shipped in overnight. He had my old hard drive swapped out and the new one installed and tested before I got home for lunch. Now thats what I call service!

I did it on my DV9700T, with the same result, no mic. If anybody has some wisdom about how to get the mic working, that would be great.

However, I also did the clean Vista install on a second partition and, Viola!, a dual booting DV9700! :D

I'm looking to install XP on my dv2700t CTO system, and I'm wondering if anyone has done this using a slipstreamed XP SP3 installation? Do I still need the SATA drivers with this? Are all of the system devices (including the mic) found via Windows Update?

I recently did a clean install of Vista, and I was pleasantly surprsied to discover that Windows Update found ALL of my hardware and installed the drivers automatically.

Thanks for any information from people who've given an SP3 clean install a go. I just don't think I'm ready for Vista yet. ;)

    I have one question.

What is the "Quickplay Directplay"?! My notebook only has 2 partitions: C: (With 226408 MB) and D: (With 12064 MB)

    D: is HP recovery.

I have to delete all and create how many!? 2?! 3?!

If you have dvx5xx series or newer notebook, then forget about directplay. It was valid only for older dvx0xx series. Directplay was inlcuded at a time when HP was still selling Windows XP. They dropped this feature when Vista was introduced and so has not been updated to support any of the newer models. It was essentially a media player you could boot directly into and play music/DVD's etc. It was installed on a separate partition.

As long as you have burnt a copy of the recovery discs, you dont necessarily need the restore partition since the DVD's are capable of restoring the system back to factory state.

hi all! I have hp dv6599ew (white edition - what is funny-> on the deskop there is "HP Pavilion 6500" written, in BIOS it is like dv 6590 and on the serial number sticker it's 6599ew) notebook, I've downloaded drivers from the firs post but I don't see any graphic card driver for xp. Thi is my computer specification: intel core 2 duo t7300 @ 2 GHz, 2 GB ram, nVidia GeForce 8400m GS, built in camera, built in memory cards reader, realtek HD audio, HDMI port,IRDA remote control etc. rest is the same in most of HPs I think. I also know it isn't possible to disable SATA in BIOS. Any ideas about graphic card driver? maybe some additional advices about installation? thanx for replies in advance :)

Install the XP drivers from laptopvideo2go. As long as you have the modded inf and replace the original inf with the modded verison, you should be good to go with installing them on your system.

I use the NVIDIA 156.83 driver from laptopvideo2go. I haven't had any problems with it.

A question for everyone, has anyone upgraded to SP3 and have they had any problems with compatibility with Verisoft Access Manager? My fingerprint sensor keeps refusing to initialise, the icon is greyed out on the log on screen. I also have a long startup time between log on and explorer initialising and I cannot get my computer to hibernate. I'm going to reinstall Verisoft and look for another fingerprint reader driver (I'm using the one Verisoft installs which I think is actually for Vista). Any other ideas?

could you link it for me? I really can't get how to search drivers on laptopvideo2go :/ hope it will work well with my gf 8400m gs ;)

btw in the first post there is a note about sata driver which says that it isn't compatible with every laptop.... so my question is: will it work on my dv6599ew?

If you're currently running Vista check the name of the SATA controller. I'm fairly sure the one in the driver pack is the Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller so if you have the same one it'll work. Best way to check would be slipstream it in using nlite, burn a new XP CD from the slipstreamed copy and boot from it. Go to setup Windows XP and see if it detects your hard disk. If it does, the driver is ok, you can exit the setup and use it later when you're fully prepared.

The 156.83 driver is on the front page www.laptopvideo2go.com on the right labeled as recommended for xp 32-bit. I know what you mean about that place, its fairly confusing! Download the driver first, decompress to a new folder then download the modded inf and replace the existing file in the driver directory. When in XP of course. I have it for my dv6519tx which has the same card as you and it works like a dream.

    Good Luck

    to GrandAdmiral:
thanx a lot mate! I checked my sata driver version in device manager and it's the same you mentioned (Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller)! :) I also downloaded video driver and replaced inf file without any problems. Now I'm getting prepared to bury Vista forever };->

My last question (I hope so :p) is: do I have to worry about data on the separate partition that I created? It's NTFS and as far as I know XP also supports it so I hope it won't be necessary to format any other partition than C.. am I right? Thanx again for all the support and advices!

    Question:

Now that Service Pack 3 has finally been released, will XP be able to detect sata drives or do I still have to slipstream those nasty drivers by myself?

nice to hear the good news!!

dont expect the drivers to be found for XP in Windows Updates. If that was teh case then this guide would be useless :p

i think people will eventually have to get back to Vista.... just not now! haha
nope, it wont be necessary to reformat the other partition. you can do it if you want to.

ive tried SP3 in VMWare (and i liked it!!) but i never installed it on my harddrive, and i never did a clean install using it.

I doubt the SATA drivers are included, Microsoft wouldn't make life easier for people who want to downgrade when they're trying to bury XP in favour of Vista.

On Service Pack 3, I'm using it and it seems fine. But you may need to reinstall Verisoft Access Manager, it caused some problems for me (long startup time, Verisoft failing to start, impossible to hibernate). Nothing serious and a reinstall fixed everything without any inconvenience.

villu666, no problem. Let me know if you need any other help.

I'm not going to rebuild the driver pack torrent at the moment. But if anyone needs a specific driver I'm happy to make a torrent of just that driver. The whole pack is too much to upload.

HP needs to check their facts. It works like a charm in XP and is well worth installing! Its actually designed as a large business security management system (The only place I could find selling it sold it in a starter pack worth $10,000!) so its a quality piece of software.

Alternatively there are plenty of free programs with similar features.

    Just for the record.

This tutorial worked with the dv6830us, with only 2 diferences:

1 - The driver of the video card is not the one that is on the pack. The right driver can be found here.

2 - The wireless card driver that is on the pack and hp site won't work with the notebook.

This driver i was unable to find. The picture bellow shows, from Everest, the name of the adapter before the formating. The language is portuguese but the name is the same:

If anyone knows where i can find this exact driver for Windows XP, i tested with many with no success, please let me know. Thanks.

Btw. The driver agent site has found the driver but i don't have access to it.

UPDATE: HP site gives to me the info bellow about the wireless card. Which one is the right!?

I must have a different version of Verisoft Access Manager because mine works fine. If you want to check my version is 2.1.2.880.15. You can tell your version by looking for a .cva file in the swsetup/VSAM folder (eg mine is Verisoft21288015_A5.cva). If your version is the same the you should be able to install VSAM.

I couldn't find any free software but this page http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloads/fingerprint_reader_software/ lists some shareware software for only US$30-40.

Have you tried this pack? I see what you mean about it being difficult to find a compatible driver for XP.

I have an 8400m GS on my dv6700t notebook with Windows XP Pro x86 SP3 installed. The drivers on this site provided from the d/l link as well as those in the laptop2go site seem to have a hard time running 1080p video sources from QuickTime. The ones from the Yahoo Movie website. I was wondering, does anyone know where to get good drivers that play those 1080p movies smoothly? Thanks!

The best driver I've found is the 156.83 driver from laptopvideo2go which I assume you've already tried. I do know QuickTime consumes quite alot of system resources, you may want to check for a bottleneck in your system thats causing the bad performance other than the drivers because finding better ones is a matter of trial and error.

    Hi,

I recently applied the latest bios update, F.53, since the HP information part said it was for Both Vista and XP-based machines. But! This version caused that awful "no harddrive found"-message to appear upon booting from the XP disc.

Is there a good way to rollback to a previous, XP-friendly version of the bios?
I think I'll stick with VistaUltimate for a while, I just want to have the option of going back to XP, If I should ever feel the need to do so..

Hey, no as far as I can think of, the videocard is the bottle neck. I have 4gb of ram which XP only sees 3gb, but that's still very high. My processor is a T7500 2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo. So it would have to be the drivers. Say, 156.83, does that run the QuickTime trailers @ 1080p smoothly? Could you possibly check for me? Does it play smoothly? It plays well on Vista super smoothly. Heck, I can play 5 total at the same time without a hiccup. But my XP parition can't even play 1 smoothly.
