Yeah, i was gonna keep a pretty close eye on temp readings, but i guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Don't go to too much trouble. I'm talking to the store and they're happy for me to swap it for a similarly specced machine running XP natively.

I think the sample issue was only with memory which is now solved. I have a feeling that an inadequate bios and the hardware not being fully compliant mean it's just not up to the task.

    hi all,

First of all i apologize if my question has already been answered somewhere on this 116-page long thread. I have managed to downgrade from vista to xp on myHP Dv6663. I'm still lacking a few drivers i couldn't find anywhere.

Does anyone owns this model and have successfully downgraded to XP? If so, can you help me getting this install finished?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello ALL,

Do not you think that a HP laptop running on XP is little hotter than running on Vista? Waht are yours observations?

I agree. I installed XP on my Pavilion dv9312tx notebook. In XP, my Go7600 dles at 70-73C while in Vista Ultimate, it idles at 66-70C. However the CPU temps. are same.

    Hi!

I have followed the instructions posted in the first page but in my device manager I don't have HP Integrated module, even though I have bluetooth. Also the PCI Device icon keeps appearing as a yellow question mark with the yellow exclamation mark even when I have already installed the UAA and realtek driver and when I click on update driver windows says it can't update. What should I do?

My notebook is a dv9700t with bluetooth, fingerprint reader and webcam.\

    Thank you.

I'm running XP on a dv2600 w/ 8400M and the Nvidia drivers from the 1.02 pack.

I've observed the chip's speed with GPU-Z and found it runs at low clock speed (just above 100MHz) at the Windows desktop, switches to full speed when I start a game, then gradually steps down when I close the game. Just like it should.

However, it sometimes seems to get "stuck" at the highest clock speed which leads to annoying, unnecessarily high fan speed. This morning is a case in point - system was on overnight, no gaming or anything - I've just checked the GPU speed and it's running at the full 400MHz and a toasty 93 degrees C.

Is there any utility for manually controlling PowerMizer?

EDIT: after looking into it some more, turns out the stupid feature doesn't function at all when I connect an external display, even in single-display mode.

Thanks very much for the guide and driver pack, its been a great help with downgrading my HP Pavilion 9267ea to XP.
One additional bit of info that may help others is that if you have installed XP with SP3 as I did, then you should know that SP3 breaks the UAA HDAudio bus driver install from Microsoft (this took me almost a week of tearing my hair out to discover, as I couldnt get the HD audio device to work at all).
Visit this page for more info and an update patch to fix the problem:
    http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=490
When you get the update, just point your audio device to that folder (in device manager) and once its updated you can then install your drivers as normal.
Hope this helps others who migh have the same problem I had.

hmm, interesting how you found that issue out.

    -------

im having a problem with my graphics card. i think it may have malfunctioned. im getting a 0xEA error and i currently uninstalled my graphics drivers and so far no error. im really sad because when i got this laptop i payed $2200 or something and i cannot buy another lap. and guess what, my warranty expired. w00t

oh yeah, using this computer without a graphics driver is sooo slow :)

thats good sundar. im glad to hear that you found this guide helpful and that you had no probs.
    what are ur specs btw?

    ---------
    update on my situation:
i called hp support, and for 322.22USD they are going to "replace all the hardware" in my laptop. not bad for $322 but when i checked the confirmation page online, my problem was listed as a "bios: software" problem when the person on the phone agreed that it is listed as a hardware problem. so im just a bit worried.

Ok I ve got xp running . Under vista it said it's a dv9500 i dv9000 on frount. specs are 1.5 gig dual core , twin 120 drives, 8 dvd burner, Nvidia 86000 256 meg, 17 inch creen , cam with 2 gigs ram. I ve got everything working but the network. It say real tec and intel pro wireless is working but they aren't. Also says 56k modem can't find inf files. I tried to reinstall drivers but doesn't work. Under other devices IEEE 1394 isn't working and I ve spent hours looking for drivers. Also some other devices there under unknown pci. The sound driver is a real tec hd.

Anyone run into the same thing? Thanks for the help so far by the way.

try to right click the unknown PCI device and click "update driver" and see if it goes away.

make sure the wifi switch is on at the front of the laptop.

Thats gotta suck, a BIOS downgrade should fix it though correct?

Random Side Note: Its been a while since I was here cos I've been getting my new desktop organized. Check the specs, total cost $1500. Parts should get here tomorrow, already got graphics card and PSU.

but sweet desktop specs!!! i didnt know AMD was at the 6000+ mark lol. and fast RAM too @ 1066MHz

my desktop needs an overhaul too, specs-wise, but things are holding up so i might put it off another year. my laptop is my main computer right now and its essential that its always working like it should

I have dv9535nr, and I experimented with installing xp on it. All little foresight told me that I'd need to find SATA drivers, and that I needed to slipstream it into an xp sp2 disc (didn't know about sp3's issues). I also went to Intel's site and grabbed their drivers for wifi. I went over to Realtek and grabbed the sound drivers. I can't find xp whql drivers for my graphics chip (8600m GS), but I figured that shouldn't be too hard. Also, would my Ethernet drivers be on Realtek's site as well?

The reason why I'm hunting for the drivers INDIVIDUALLY is because I want to know where to go to for possible future driver updates. That way I'd have the latest drivers.

If I had this guide before hand I probably would've already been running xp long ago. Great guide, thanx!

PS: it has me pegged as newbie on the left, but I'm pretty well versed in PCs.

if i still had XP on my laptop i would have told you. its all in my image that i made of my laptop before installing Vista so i can send my laptop to hp for hardware repair. but i do believe the ethernet drivers are here:

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...d=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

if the link doesnt wrk, just let me know. what other drivrs do you need?

im not positive there are "certified" laptop drivers for 8400M/8600M but try the one from laptopvideo2go.com
i cant say the newest version worked for me (or any version) because my laptop is totally screwed up when it comes to video... the graphics card failed. it seems like a common enough problem to be documented on the internet.

    no problem at all man.

haha its ok man. same here.
youre alot smarter than me because i didnt know that i needed SATA drivers in the beginning. i think someone on this forum told me :p (thanks) and it was another forum regarding the dv5000 (thank you also, Scirwode).

    [edit]

oh yeah, you need to download "UAA" from microsoft before you install the HD Audio drivers for them to work.

the SATA slipstream method will work for the dv5. you need to do use the SATA method here. otherwise, all the drivers are different (including SATA drivers.... ICH9M vs ICH8M). there is a "windows xp for dv5" thread or something along those lines that is confirmed working... although im not sure everything works 100%. i think they have the links listed somehwere in the thread. i suggested that they create a new thread with all the steps+drivers as the first post but i havent seen anything like that yet. best of luck and we are all here to help :)

Hi everyone, a Canadian HP laptop owner here and I'm glad to report that I've followed the guide and was able to get XP on my DV6974CA, which is the DV6700 series.
I've one slight problem though. Ever since I've downgraded, my HDD doesn't stop spinning when the laptop's powered on. I'm suspecting it has something to do with the drivers since otherwise my OS is clean. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks again for the guide!

I'll try uninstalling the whole thing, I've never gotten used to the new search interface anyways. But so far, disabling it doesn't solve the problem.

There seems to be less noise now. Oh wait, did I say HDD doesn't stop spinning? I meant to say the fan for it is constantly spinning. I remember on my old HP, the last 17" single core, the fan would be off for long periods of time, well maybe 10-15 minutes, before it started to have to spin to cool things down. Are the new HPs set so that the fan will spin at a lower hard drive temperature? Is there some way I can change the BIOS or whatever is applicable so that the fan will only spin at some higher temperature?

Just downgraded my dv6599eo laptop to Windows XP (with the driver pack 1.10). Everything is working great but I cannot get sound over HDMI to work.

Anyone who can tell me how to "enable" this?

Hello all!!! I REALLY need help, im getting desperate!
I have a dv9500t. I installed XP without any problem 8 months ago by following this guide. Now I need to reinstall, and and using a different original XP (more updated). I use nlite, bal bal....sliptream SATA. I know it.

When I try to install, during the blue screen i get an error:"the iastor.sys file is corrupted". FYI, the file is not corrupted. I tried downloading the pack again. The same. I googled that and no concrete answer. I do not know what to do! Is that an nlite error?why it worked before and not now?
I'd appreciate any thought on this.

    Thank you very much.
