Thanks for the feedback. I used a MSDN version of Windows with SP2. I used the most recent driver pack provided in this thread (what ever was the most up-to date 1 month ago). I'll download whatever is current atm and go with that like you said.

By QP buttons, I meant media buttons (play, volume etc.) The QP button isnt working ofc ;-) Sorry for misleading you.

    Thx agian.

    Hello,

I have just bought an HP Pavilion dv6516tx Notebook with Vista Home Premium Edition.

I wanted to install Windows XP onto it and remove Vista (formatting HDD, partitioning it properly and then install XP).

I wanted to confirm if I download drivers for individual components, like video, audio, Webcam, Quickplay, modem, wireless, bluetooth etc from respective authors (nVidia, Realtek, Lightscribe DVD etc) and install them manually, will I be able to get the notebook working or do I need to get it done given in the tutorial at the beginning?

Sorry for my ignorance, but that seemed to be a very long process!!!

You wont be able to install XP on to the system without slipstreaming SATA drivers. This first step is absolutely necessary. After that you can find drivers from anywhere and install. Do note that nvidia does not support mobile graphics cards, so any driver you download from them wont install directly, you will have to modify the inf file first before installing the driver.

Yes and No. Some of the drivers like the HP webcam, touchpad, multimedia card reader, Nvidia graphics *might* be similar between the Intel and AMD versions but dont use the Intel chipset drivers. I am not quite sure if they use the same audio/modem chip but its a toss up. I would try some of them at the very worst you will have to reinstall XP to remove the bad drivers.

Since you have a Nvidia chipset based system, you can download the Nvidia nforce chipset drivers from nvidia. This should also take care of the ethernet. as for as wireless is concerned you should have a Broadcom card and depending on the model of the card HP might have Xp drivers for it.

    Hello,

I've followed the instructions on the post. Everything went smooth but in my device manager I see "Standard floppy disk controller (!)" This device cannot start (Code 10).

The problem is that I don't have a floppy drive.

    Also bluetooth is not working.

    My system is DV2550en

    I'll appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks

Hmm...looks like Nvidia hasnt yet released the mobile drivers for the 630M series. They have one for the older series Go430 series. You could try these or search for XP drivers from other OEMs(Acer/Asus for example) who might be using the same chipset and have the XP drivers available for download.

Just to let everyone know I just uploaded the Driver Pack to a second download link!

This one should be free of download limitations. Special thanks to Hansmsat!

Just to reiterate, I will be resigning my Driver Pack over to whomever is willing to keep it updated, I believe Mujjuman has decided to take it upon himself to update it until HP adds official XP support for this series. (If/when they do)

Even in XP (partition D:\), default location for driver files is C:\SWSetup. Is there a recommended destination folder for the driver files?

    Thanks,

    HACKEZ-

Your 10 repair story is quite discouraging/encouraging to hear (depending on one's perspective). It's the replacement notebook HP sent me that got me into this thread in the first place! The hardware is superior without question, but the fact that I was forced to "upgrade" to Vista is where I have the greatest problem. The software my company uses is not compatible with Vista and I need to have access through the VPN. Going on 3 months now without remote access...

there isnt an official recommended destination folder. the swsetup folder is just where the drivers are extracted. they are installed in other folders.

however, i recommend that the destination folder by in a swsetup folder that is in the XP partition (whether its C or D)

I just installed PowerDVD, and I want to launch if when I press the DVD button on the HP quickkey, but nothing happens. The play, stop buttons work though. How are you using the DVD button? And is there a way you can assign something else to the HP QuickPlay button (next to the DVD HP button) as well? I don't want those to go to a waste.

a dv8000? it will be similar to this method, but DO NOT use the drivers from this thread.

    here are the steps:

    • download the drivers from the hp website. burn a CD
      hp drivers for dv8000 CTO
    • disable SATA support in your BIOS
    • install XP using an XP CD
    • install SATA drivers, and all other drivers
    • you can also slipstream the SATA driver before install XP but i dont know which driver it is for the dv8000

The SATA integration steps should be similar, but since HP has from the looks of it all the necessary drivers for Win XP located here. Download and install them from there instead of the drivers pack.

I have the same laptop and I resolved the issue by installing the "Intel Chipset Drivers" from the Driver pack (the display properties were reseted, but that's not a big deal).

I've been greatly helped by this amazing thread, many thanks to all of you guys putting in time. By now, I just have little "?" in my device manager, and it's the ethernet manager (or similar, I'm running a swedish XP), and I suppose this is the network card. I've tried to use the drivers included in the pack in this thread (Realtek Ethernet Drivers), but after installation, nothing appears in the folders I install to.

Any ideas of what could be wrong or tips of alternate drivers?
    I'm running a HP dv6288ea btw...

You have a dv6000t not a dv6500 series notebook. thats why the network drivers wont work. Try the Intel 10/100 or 10/100/1000 ethernet drivers located here...

    hey everyone,
first off I want to say thanks to mujjuman and hackez for the awesome guide!
But I am having one issue. The wireless driver doesnt seem to be working for me. After I install the driver, it comes up and says I have a Broadcom Wireless LAN b/g card, but there is a yellow exclamation mark next to it meaning the driver is "corrupted or improperly installed"
I have uninstalled, then reinstalled the driver a couple of times just to be sure it wasnt "improperly installed" but that didnt seem to help... Heh. Any advice on what I can do to fix it? I would hate to have to go back to windows vista :(

    Thanks!! :)

ok, since my google-fu has failed me on this one, here's the question.
how to get ethernet working on win xp with pavilion 6580? :)
i've tried the xp chipset drivers from hp's and from nvidia's site, but they didn't work. 32-bit vista drivers didn't work either and i've also tried realtek drivers with no success, just in case.
does anyone know the solution for this?

Nevermind, it didn't work with the non-beta version, but seemed to have worked with new RC2 version. It's formatting the drive now, so didnt find the HDD problem is solved. Now the hard part after fresh installtion, Installing drivers. One more question guys, I am using XP Media Center SP2 provided by DELL. Will it give me trouble as i am installing it on HP's laptop.
Also, I don't like the Media Center anyways cuz of the Media Center Home as I dont watch TV on pc. Is there a way to delete all the crap and make it a professional xp?
