Im trying to get windows xp installed on my dv6500t and it goes through the whole install until it tries to restart and run windows xp off the hard drive. When
it gets loading windows it blue screens and i get a 7B error code (something to do with driver or hard drive) Ive tested the hard drive from the bios and it checks out ok. Im not really sure how everyone else is managing to do this and im not. Also on a side note ive put ubuntu on it at one point but since then have deleted that partition and windows xp still will not install. Any advice would be very appreciated as ive been working on this for days.
Also just a heads up to anyone that owns one of these hp's. I actually purchased my vista recovery disk (it was like 19 bucks and saved me the time of making it myself) throughout all the problems ive had..ive tried putting vista back on it. The first disk didn't work on my computer even though in the documentation it says its for my model. It install the OS and all the Supplemental stuff then at the end it gets an error and says its the wrong disk set. I called HP and was very angry towards them and they next day'ed a new cd with a different part number on the cd. Well this one went through the whole install too but this time instead of telling me its the wrong cd, it installs it all and then just keeps restarting about every 5 minutes after windows finishes loading. So just a heads up to let you guys know that your vista cd's (in the rare case you might decide to use them very likely wont work)

I emailed HP 'tech support', and here is a summary of what they suggested:
1.) Go to BIOS and disable Native SATA support.
Good call. I would love to do that.. Oh wait, you screwed with the BIOS so I can't do that....
2.) After logging on, go to my computer and disable auto restart after system failure.
First of all: huh? It is the crashing that is the problem, not the restarting. Secondly, I can't log in! That's the whole point!
Sorry, just had to vent a little. Still open to any suggestions. -
Thanks. -
K I just read every post in this thread.. I have a 2500t and I cant find the "modem device on high definition audio bus" You guys keep saying its in the "swsetup" folder but I dont see any folder with the name "modem " in it.. can someone just email or send a link to the driver? I would be willing to host it even.. and also "conexant setup APT" and one other glitch.. the sound works ok but when ever I click the master volume meter and move it anywhere.. when I release the click it makes a loud and annoying beep.
any help would be awesome..
love the guide.. you guys rock.. vista is the worst thing ive ever used! -
-
So is this something that should have been done in vista before the reformat? If so.. Im sorta screwed.

As far as Easy BCD goes, here are the steps I took after downloading all the driver packs for both XP and Vista and setup my partitions, and used the cd key extractor Orev posted in his thread.
Insert Vista anywhere cd and boot up from cd, format C drive and do a clean install of Vista home premium. Reboot and install all drivers via windows update, followed by another reboot to ensure its all good. Install Easy BCD and shutdown.
Insert XP cd that I slipstreamed SP2, sata drivers, and motherboard drivers and boot up from dvd drive. I installed XP on another hard drive in a 20gb partition I created just for XP. Let XP install and once XP is installed I shutdown the pc and put in the vista dvd and rebooted (I didnt bother with all the xp drivers at this point, I wanted to get the dual boot going). When vista comes up I told it to repair my current vista install to fix the boot loader and then Vista loaded so I ran EasyBCD to add XP to the boot record. I then shutdown and tested both boot options (and they both worked, as windows starts up you can choose which you want to boot to).
At this point I booted back into XP and started to reinstall all the drivers. Since I had downloaded most of them it went fairly smoothly but I couldnt get the wireless driver to work. So as I said before I ran a cat5 lan cable from my hub to the laptop and plugged in manually. After setting up the static IP I was able to run windows update and install firewall/av etc. I've tinkered with the settings some to try and sort it out but nothing seems to let me connect to my AP. I think its an issue of not supporting the format my access point is broadcasting. To check it I'd have to reconfigure my AP and try again but just havent had time to do so. I'm sure I can sort it out but I think I'm going to roll back the wireless driver to HP's and try again.

anyone have any idea what my problem may be..i havent really seen anyone with the problem im having..where after xp is installed on my dv6500t it just keeps rebooting on first reboot
-
-
mujjuman, i'd already tried reinstalling but i thought what the hell and did it again as you suggested. I think my laptop likes you more than it likes me cos this time it worked. Thanx!

ly712ig, the swsetup folder contains the installers for all of the drivers and included software for your computer. If you intend to use any of these on your XP installation you need to copy the folder otherwise when you install XP you'll delete it. And if you do that the only way to get those installers back is to use the quick restore disks which will wipe out the XP installation. Just go to your C:\, select the swsetup folder and copy it. If you can't move it in one go you can open it and move a couple of folders each time. Provided you haven't installed XP yet.
garitd, im sorry to say it but yes, you did need to do that before reformatting with XP. Don't worry though, you should be able to download the driver off the net somewhere. As for the beep when you change the volume i think thats part of xp, don't know how to turn it off though. Sorry! -
Heres a question for everyone. My dv6519tx said it came with TurboCache which could boost my total graphics memory up to 1 gig if necessary (at a cost to my RAM). Is this an automatic system or is there a way to control and monitor TurboCache?
-
And another question. Is there a control panel for the quicklaunch buttons? I've installed the driver pack from this thread and been looking in control panel and the quicklaunch installation folder but i can't find a way to configure alternate actions.

Hi everyone.
I recently acquired a dv6535 (AMD) and managed to install everything except the ethernet controller. Installing the chipset drivers should have taken care of this but I still get a question mark next to the device in device manager.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks -
New Driver Pack coming soon. With a vast amounts of updates...
Please note this will be my last Driver Pack and am doing this solely as a favor to the NBR Community. Perhaps someone can pick this project up and take it over for me since Mujjuman seems to be quite busy. -

Ok I finally got a chance this morning to look into my wireless problem and sure enough XP did not support the AP's broadcasting (WPA-2) so I had to download an update WindowsXP-KB893357-v2-x86-ENU.exe to logon. Once I installed the patch XP connected via wireless in seconds. So if you are having problems connecting to your wireless router/access points try this update. Here is M$ link to this patch:

woohoo, I didnt lose my geek membership! lol -
hello peeps, an advice from a HP rep. was to install and run Everest. The program tells you the name of all relevant components, sound, ethernet and so on. I had alot of problems getting my 9655eo up and running on xp, until I installed Everest.
as of now, I have 99% of my drivers installed
all features on my notebook works
If u need the SATA drivers, you still have to slipstream them ofcourse.
cheers and good luck -
-
apart from the Intel drivers, the ethernet driver from the pack didn't work for me ... I used Everest to find the correct one. I don't have the computer with me here, or I'd list all my components etc. to help out making possible additions to the driver pack
cheers -
oh ok. i didnt know the AMD versions had a different ethernet.
can you post a screenshot of all your hardware? or just list them here -
Does this process also work with dv9500ez as opposed to t as far as you know? I'm not aware of the meaning of this HP suffix.
Would you recommend a software such as TrueImage to burn the Recovery partition onto DVDs which you recommend at the beginning of the process? -
it seems as if all of the drivers will work. just DONT install the intel chipset drivers, and the ethernet driver.
as for usualy TrueImage, i think its better to use the Windows Vista recovery program that comes with the computer.... it makes a image of the C:drive and the Recovery Partition is created automatically when you use the Recovery DVD(s) -
as of now, the driver pack will be updated biweekly
-
thank you all for putting this together.
i've downgraded about a week ago per your instructions and driver pack but i've never got around to write a "thank you" letter... well, here it is.
you guys have done an awesome job!
i've got a dv9653cl and everything has been smooth on xp.
thanks
****** I installed driver pack 1.02... except for the video driver. I've been using 169.01 from laptop2go - http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15710 -
Thanks and congratulations to all who provided this info and drivers to make it easier to install for the rest of us.
Would you please let me know where I can get a driver for the Fingerprint sensor? I have a 9580ez. -
tell me the model name and number etc of your fingerprint reader and ill attempt to find it for you......
-
I used EVEREST v4.20.1170 (which is the latest version since it recognizes the PM965 chipset) on the dv9580ez and it only displays "Fingerprint sensor". Would all HP notebooks have the same model as this is a relatively new feature on the pc's?
-
why can't i see the pictures of the screenshots that were attached to the part of installing the drivers?
what should i do so that i will be able to see the pictures. -
-

FOR THE FINGERPRINT READER:
try this link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...9063&swEnvOid=1098&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=3
if it works, it will be included in the next driver update (next week)
someone please let me know if this works. i dont have a fingerprint reader so i cant test it myself -

I went back and updated my site here.
http://www.nogodforme.com/HPDV6500T.htm
If found that the finger print reader file (aec1610) is no longer on the HP site. The only one I could find is the newer aes2501B. I have the older file available for download from my web space if anyone needs it.
I have also received a few e-mails from people saying they can't get sound to work. I have told them to visit the Realtek site and download newer versions of the sound drivers. I have updated those links on my web site.
What this means is new versions of hardware is coming out for the DV6500T model. The drivers listed in this guide and mine become outdated. I provide links to the web sites in my guide. It's a tedious job going back and finding links to new drivers. I spent two hours updating my site. Always get your drivers from the web site links when possible.
For example, the audio driver I installed on my laptop was version 1.67. If you visit the Realtek site, you'll see they have version 1.80 available. -
wow that was unexpected by me... i didnt think they would change the hardware and still slap the old badge (dv6500) on it.

Hi guys. Quick question for people with the HP 9500t computer. My computer has dual drives and the 256MB Nvidia Geforce 8600S graphics card.
Under the Drivers section of Muji manual, it says that if you have integrated graphics, you have a GM965 Chipset or something like that.
But, if you have Nvidia graphics, you have a PM965 chipset
There is a driver that corresponds to each choice.
Now, I used intel's chiputil application to read what the chispset is on my computer. It says I have integrated graphics GM965 chipset.
But, I don't see how this can be since I don't have integrated graphics-> its dedicated.
Thanks for your input.
B. -
as far as i know, it detects your chipset and installs the correct drivers...
-
-
I have a quick ? for you guys.
My laptop is a dv9410us, and I used some of the information in this thread to install XP on it. My buddy has the dv9610us which seems to only have a different video card GeForce Go 7150 compared to my 6150, and for some reason he can't get the nForce chipset drivers to install on his.
It's running a AMD 64 x 2 processor. Any particular reason the nForce drivers from the Nvidia sight wouldn't find the correct components?
Thanks for any help. -
Hi Everyone
Heres a quick summary of my current issues/questions.
1. Hibernate is still malfunctioning. It gets to preparing to hibernate then freezes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and i think its something to do with my wireless adapter. Anyone else having a similar issue?
2. Has anyone had success with HP Quickplay? My unused remote is killing me.
3. My laptop came with TurboCache. My understanding is it taps into your RAM when you run out of graphics memory. Is this correct, and if so is it totally automatic or is there a way to configure it?
4. Is there a control panel for the Quicklaunch buttons? My old HP had one and i've looked around in the Quicklaunch folder but none of the applications seem to work.
Any help appreciated, especially on the hibernate problem

anything below the 9500 series has a different chipset than anything above the 9500 series. they just look the same, but the hardware is different. i dont know what chipset the AMD laptops have, i have an intel.
can you please ask him to post his chipset model # here? he should be able to find it in his "system devices" in "device manager" in Vista. actually, a better option would be to post a screenshot -
What a great work mujjuman and Hackez have done here! Marvelous! Thank you!
A quick question:
If I want to change one of my two 160GB harddrives to this harddrive:
Seagate Momentus 7200.2 120GB 7200RPM SATA 2,5"
Must I do something else in this part of your guide:
"Now some things to do before we begin: Step 10" -

How do you create the backup disc? Do you first boot up the computer then press F11 and create the backup through there? Or do you boot up windows and create a backup through windows?
When you create a backup disc through the F11 option, does it also create a backup of the backup drive? It seemed like it only creates a backup of all the program files or something like that? -
There have been reports that the backup discs don't work. There is a choice on the menu to create them. Make sure you save your SWSETUP folder using Nero. Best idea is to copy the folder to another computer through your network.
I get a few e-mails every day from people who read my web site. Today I got one that made me laugh. It started out like this.
"First of all, thank you very much for the info on your site. I've been trying, literally, for 16 hours now, to uninstall Vista and HP tech support has been of NO help so far, until the last guy referred me to your article."
That's great to know the people in HP support like my web site. I can just imagine all the calls streaming into HP from people wanting to put XP on their laptops. -
By menu do you mean start menu?
-
be sure that you have several DVDs at hand, and dont forget to label them. this takes a long time btw, just a heads up.
i saved the swsetup folder on a flash drive. i tested my recovery DVDs out twice, and they work fine. i didnt use the computer at all until they were done being created.
