Thanks for the quick reply mujjuman. Going to try and put XP on my dv2500t.

    edit: 7:44pm

Does it matter which driver pack I use? I noticed that the updated pack says "Driver_Pack_1.02_DV95XX_Series.zip". Is it only for DV95XX series only? I have a dv2500t. Should I use the older pack which says "DriverPack_1.01_DVX500Series.zip"?

Thank you for giving me your time to answer my question. I changed my standard harddrive to a 2,5 inch Seagate 7200rpm with great success.

I have 100% successfully completed the even-more-easy-then-i-thought jump from Vista to XP on my dv9550. And all that thanks to your ingenious guide and Hackez drivers!

Thank you so much guys! Me and my dv9550 love you and appreciates the time and work you have put into this guide-project!

    Cheers!

    Greetings from Norway!

hey man! glad the guide and the drivers worked!

you have to install all the other drivers first, before you can see the hp integrated module (bluetooth)

hmm..... the x500 series was actually meant for the 6500/9500 series. the 2500 has a significantly different hardware configuration.... which requires different drivers. it seems as if alot of 2500 owners are having problems with the drivers, that is why the drivers were renamed to strictly show that it is supported by the 9500 only. however, they can work on the 6500 as well. but not entirely for the 2500.

there is a "dv2500 owners" section of my guide, in the beginning, thanks to Typo. i can refer you to that :)

Ohh the hp integrated module is for bluetooth. I don't have that hardware, guess thats why I can't see it.

Is the intergrated module important part for me to get sound? I still have no audio at this step. I don't have sound. I have finished up to step 22. Everything else seems to be ok, other than the sound. I follow Typo's advice about installin audio for a DV2500.

no the integrated module is not needed for sound.

dont install the audio drivers from the driver pack. instead, download the audio drivers from the link Typo provided.

if someone with Vista on a dv2500 can tell me the model name of their sound card.... that would be really helpful

IT WORKS!!! Some how the sound works now! I was trying to install Realtek audio drivers, but that didn't work. Then I thought just for fun I'd uninstall the audio drivers from the device manager. I rebooted the notebook, then I installed the Conexon audio drivers again. During the installation process I heard a faint noise that came from the notebook. I thought it might have worked, but not to get my hopes up I still assumed it won't work. After it said installation successful I to check the volume controller and it actually opened! I adjusted the volume and the "BING BING" sound played!

Thank god! I was on the verge on reinstalling Vista with the backup discs. THANK YOU mujjuman for this wonderful guide!! So happy to get rid of Vista. My notebook boots up much faster! The webcam also records audio!

One last thing is there a way to make sure that all the important drivers are working fine? Like the chipset driver?

hmm, im glad it finally worked!

to check if the chipset is working, i think you have to plug in a USB device...... but i think since your sound works, it is an indicator your chipset is working im just guessing.

what drivers did you use for the sound? the link i gave you, or the link that Typo gave?

Question on the hard drive for the dv9500t laptop computer:

After seeing a previous post from someone who wanted to upgrade their hard drive, a question popped into my mind which I couldn't find on the hp website.
Is the Sata hard drive used 1.5Gigs/sec or 3.0Gigs/sec?
If my computers uses the 1.5Gig/sec xfer rate and I bought and installed a 3.0Gig/sec hard drive, would it still work?

    Thanks,
    B.

    Hi,

I recently installed Windows XP onto my new dv2600. Everything seems to be working great, even the fingerprint scanner which I thought would be a problem! I didn't try installing QuickPlay so can't comment on that, but so far the only non working function I've found is using my notebook as a Bluetooth sound device from my phone (worked in Vista). My QuickLaunch buttons work, but the quickplay and dvd button don't do anything.

This thread helped me a lot. Thanks mujjuman and others!

it should work at a slower speed

im glad the thread helped you! what driver did you use for the fingerprint reader? did you install the modem driver, and if you did, what driver did you use?

the quickplay and the DVD buttons dont work because quickplay isnt installed.

about the bluetooth, try the driver that Hackez provided. we'll troubleshoot that together.

For the Fingerprint reader I used the driver that was in the SwSetup folder. It was in a subfolder called "Misc1". My reader is the AuthenTec AES2501A. For XP authentication integration I used the Verisoft software that was in the SwSetup folder too. Zero problems.

Modem driver is installed and the device is recognised, but I haven't tested it to make sure it works. I used the driver that was in the SwSetup folder, subfolder "modem". I installed the Conexant sound driver referenced in your first post and the Microsoft UAA High Def library in Hackez's driver pack before installing the modem driver.

Yeh :) Do you happen to know if it's possible to map those two keys to other apps? There is a service called "hpqwmiex" running that I'm almost sure is what monitors the QuickLaunch button presses...

    Will try that sometime. :)

I found alot of the software and drivers that were in the dv2600 SwSetup folder worked in XP. The only things that I got elsewhere were:

    * Microsoft UAA High Def lib from Hackez
    * nVidia Forceware from Hackez
    * ALPS touchpad driver from Typo's link
    * Conexant Audio from Typo's link
    * SATA driver from Intel (or Hackez for an older version)
    * INF update from Intel. They don't publish one in the 965 chipset section, but the INF update in the 945 chipset section definately has 965 specific INFs.
    * Wireless 4965AGN driver from Intel
    * Marvell LAN driver from Marvell
    * HP Webcam driver from Hackez
    * (Recommend slipstreaming RyanVM's Post SP2 pack too)

    Software from SwSetup that worked:

    * AuthenTec finger print scanner ("Misc1" subfolder)
    * BlueTooth drivers ("BTOOTH" subfolder, Hackez version might work better)
    * HP QuickLaunch button driver ("QLB" subfolder)
    * HP Wireless Assistant ("WLASST" subfolder)
    * Modem driver ("modem" subfolder)
    * Ricoh Flash card reader driver ("MISC2" subfolder)
    * Verisoft authentication software for fingerprint reader ("Verisoft" subfolder)

I have the graphics drivers from one of Hackez's driver packs (163.71). Its pretty variable wether it will hibernate successfully or not. I had hibernation problems on my last HP but it would hibernate successfully, just not resume. In this laptop it comes up with the 'preparing to hibernate' screen but nothing happens, no hard disk activity.

Another thing, sometimes my laptop and my desktop are very slow to load in windows and you cant access the taskbar until they're ready. My desktop didnt do this before so im wondering if its one of my taskbar applications thats common between both machines. I'm gonna test it with selective startup but any ideas of what it might be would be good.

One last thing, my SCSI/RAID controller shows as working properly but with unknown drivers. I've tried updating the drivers but it says 'the specified device does not exist as an installed service'. Is this normal and if not can i fix it?

    Thanks again!

    Just wanted to say Thanks!
Thanks to this guide I was able to take my dv9500T back to XP.
    Couple of notes to add:

    A. If you're machine has 4GB of ram (like mine) you'll only be able to see 3.2GB. Of course thats a small price to pay when Vista Ultimate required 1.2 GB of ram out of the box and XP only used 120MB. So technically you loose a gig of Ram in Vista anyway. (Mostly for pretty windows as far as I could tell).

    B. You will need to download the LightScribe Host if you have the lightscribe dvd. No big deal it's available from HP.

    A small note for developers:

Vista runs IIS7 which does not include an SMTP server--weird that they left it out, but on par with a bunch of stuff that seems to be missing.
Vista will not run SQL 2000 - I'm close to upgrading my production servers to 2005, but I haven't made the jump yet. Vista is NOT the reason to move forward faster.
In Vista explorer crashed OFTEN -- explorer blows up and then seems to eat memory
SQL 2005 gives you all kind of warnings on Install--sp2 might fix the problem but it wasn't clear. Never seemed to detect IIS7 as the installed web server.
    VS 2005 gives compatibility warnings.
I gues the question is if Microsoft has problems with compatibility why would we expect other software vendors to be compatible.
UAC security is a joke, a very bad joke. Everyone who knows how will turn it off and users who don't will simply click OK on everything (and be in the same boat as before).

I made a sincere effort to make Vista work, but after a mere three days it was clear that Vista is half baked. Maybe Microsoft will get around to finishing it soon? I like Microsoft and I depend on them to earn a living, but it is beyond me to figure out how they think any part of this is good. The simple fact that it requires enourmus resources is a sign of problems. Especially when those resources don't seem to yeild any real benefit.

I have the same specifications on my dv9550. And I can confirm both the A and the B point by "ericallenpaul".

I have also a new note to add for new and old readers of this great topic:

To get the fingerprintreader working, in some cases the folder names are different from thoes that are nemptioned above:

    1. Open subfolder in Swsetup folder called "Misc5". Install the file "ATMinInstall.exe".

    2. Open subfolder in Swsetup folder called "VSAM". Install the file "SilentSetup.exe"

    3. Reboot your pc and everything should now work.

On the dv9580ez under XP-SP2, I successfully installed the AuthenTec driver HP provide for the nc6320 for Vista Home Basic - 32 bits (sp36237), dated 28 June 2007, at the following location :

I just want to add to the list of satisfied customers.

    I have an HP dv6626.

I slipstreamed SP2 and added all the drivers that could be unzipped to the install. Included the rest of the executable driver files in the nlite source dir in a folder called drivers and burned to DVD.

Once XP was up, I installed all the drivers that were included in the drivers folder and rebooted. Everything on my laptop was working but sound.

Checked the device manager, removed all the hardware with ! marks (sound devices were it) and on re-install (after prompting a scan for new hardware) everything came up fine.

Ran to windows update and got the needed hot fixes and I think there was a Intel wireless card update, which was the only driver update.

That was it! Took me about 2 hours from start to finish. It will take me an hour next time with the freshly minted unattended install DVD. :D

P.s. My laptop runs about 250% faster with XP then Vista. I feel like it is a different machine. This was the best possible thing I could have done for productively. Thanks!

It is listed as a Slimtype DVD A DS8A1H in the device manager and it seems to work fine.

When you say DVD not working, do you mean specific functionality or just not plain working?

Edit: I see the issues you are talking about (on the forum.) I had not tried burning yet. Actually I hardly ever burn anything these days. Isn't that what 2 Gig memory sticks and alcohol 120% are for? I use my Sony External burner anyway and never thought to check if the internal one worked.

Guess I'll waste a DVD+R for the sake of science.

First off I want to say Thank You to Mujjuman and Hackez for all your information and efforts. I tried this for my machine however most of the drivers DID not work but I knew this going forward that this could be the case? I have a Dv9620 with AMD X2 64, 2x120gb SATA, 2gb ram, 5-n-1 reader, 1.3mp web cam, etc.

I was able to track down the appropriate drivers. However my sound is not working and someone mentioned a few posts ago that uninstalling and reinstalling the audio works. Also my quick buttons or quick play option does not work. Is it possible under XP this functionality does not exist? The device manager console shows an exclamation mark next to a PCI device. Also when I try to play an MP3 file I get an Audio conficguration not properly setup error message? This could be due to the lack of sound drivers, etc. I will check it out again.

I agree that the machine is 300% faster and all my old apps works!! I tried to give Vista a chance but it is almost impossible to work with. Again thanks for everyone who contributed their time and efforts to help so many people. The one thing I will say about techies and that is when we are faced with an obstacle we will work together to get it resolved. Most groups hardly come together this way to get problems solved. Thanks everyone for all that you do!

Crispy, for my machine the DV9620 pavilion my battery life has been improved only because I performed a BIOS firmware upgrade. The bios upgrade i found when I was looking for drivers. This firmware specifically addressed battery life. With vista I would be at 90% from a full charge in about 20 minutes or less? Maybe this is average. But after updating my firmware version I noticed that my battery percentage did not diminish as quickly? You might want to look at firmware upgrades for your model or series. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR CURRENT BIOS PRIOR TO UPGRADING FIRMWARE. Please DO NOT attempt to flash your BIOS if you are not sure how to do this as you might damage your machine or render it unusable. Just a suggestion. Good luck!

I am doing a battery run down right now and I am on pace to get about 170 minutes. I am only web surfing. That is on par with Vista running with Aero off, so no noticeable difference here.

Well, I created an XP DVD in nlite (in Vista) with all the provided drivers using my work Corp XP ISO and it came out fine.

You know...now that I think about it.....I remember a while back trying to burn that XP CD ISO to DVD with Nero and it would not let me so I opened it with Power ISO and recreated the ISO to burn as a Bootable DVD - that is the ISO source I used in nlite. Maybe that it why it worked? Do you know what issues other people were having?

Well...if anyone wants to know if it is possible to use a DVD for a dv6626 XP install in the future, I can can vouch for the method. You would have to assume user error / bad media with the previous issues. For the record I used a DVD+R.

Actually, I would not have been able to add all the extra goodies onto the disk had it not been for the extra space that a DVD provides! :D

Hi! Is there a later driver pack than 1.02 ? And something else. Can I use another pc to make the XP cd with nlite , or I have to do it ONLY at the HP Notebook?

I am not sure of later driver pack. You are however able to make the XP cd nlite from any machine. Hope this helps!

I just wanted to thank Mujjuman and all the others on this forum for this wonderful post. Everything is working great on my new dv9535. I was able to slipstream the SATA drivers onto the XP Pro SP2 disk with nlite with no problems. And followed everything to the letter. Having all the drivers in one place was a God send and made this so much easier.

Thanks again - you guys rule! Keep up the good work.

Since this appears to be the main thread for installing XP on newer HP's that come only with Vista.
I thought I would share that I was able to get XP pretty much 100% working on my new dv6600 (AMD & nForce based) laptop, and started a thread about it with some of the instructions & links in a new thread here:

Hi! I have done it with complete (almost) success! Two problems though. I think that the tutorial at the first page of this thread has been written for the 1.01 version of the driver pack, and is a bit different than the 1.02 I 've downloaded. Second. I have installed a very late version of Windows XP SP2, with many updates and patches "nlited" , and after intallation I haven't seen the exact thing at the device manager. Anyway. Some questions now. Is there a way to have a battery bar which also has the choice of whether the CPU should work at full speed or not? Is there a way to make a recovery disk of the current state of the notebook? And lastly I think I have a problem with the graphic card. May I install the drivers again? I think that the detail at every word written on desktop or anywhere else is not the expected one...Maybe it's all in my head. Thanks a lot for the great help!!! I wouldn't have made it without you!

I have a quick question.....My dv9320us's Recovery Partition and Recovery CD (SELFMADE) all went to hell. I am planning on waiting for the Recovery CD from HP. I am wondering will this method work on it. Also I cannot access Vista at all. Whenever it boots up I get BOOTMGR is missing...I am not sure what my options are. I have a back up laptop. Can I do the method from it and use it on the Pavilion. Thanks...

I've used this guide to install xp on a dv9618ca and have pretty much everything working with the exception of the graphics card.
After installing the drivers windows fails to restart and the log says that there is a failure loading Fips and Processor.

The processors are AMD so i used the AMD drivers instead of the Intel.

    The device mangler lists:
    Ethernet Controller
    HP integrated module
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
    SM Bus Controller
    Unknown Device
    Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

The Video Controller is only there because i have to roll back the driver to load windows.

I'm not familiar with all the changes i have to make due to having the AMD chipsets instead of the Intel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
