Hi everyone,
I really am having a hard time getting nlite to work. I have xpsp2 that was downloaded from microsoft in both ISO and EXE forms and can not get either one working in nLite. It keeps saying it needs i386 for AMD directory and proper window installations files. I don't understand and I am have about enought. It is a full download for XP Professional with service pack 2. What is wrong!!!
Please if someone can offer any help, I need to get rid of my vista nightmare.
Also should I be doing this from the HP laptop or from my Home computer with nLite?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! -

Will this be able to get the job done?? -
I dont think XP has the capability to control CPU speed. You should be able to control your graphics speed to some degree if you have a NVIDIA card (in their control panel are power saver settings). Not sure about ATI. Some AMD systems have 'Cool and Quiet' technology which i think works by manipulating CPU speed but im not sure.
You could try making a partition copy (I did to keep vista stashed on a portable hard disk using 'Gnome partition editor').
You should be able to just uninstall and reinstall the drivers but I'd say the font distortion is caused by using the wrong smooth edge method. Go to Display Properties -> Appearance tab-> Effects. Look for 'Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts'. Its set to standard by default but i think some LCDs look better with 'Clear Type'. Have a look and decide which one works for you

alright i figured out most of the drivers except sound....i cannot seem to get uaa to install...it would load then it would just disappeard....i cant install conexant cuz it says media is missing...im not sure what to do can someone help...

Hey, I used this link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224049&lang=en and installed some of the drivers here and some of these worked for my issues. You might want to uninstall devices with issues and reinstall with different drivers from this link. I have a hp dv9620us and most of these worked for me. I would say give it a shot. Hope this helps. -
Thanks for the reply.....I got the sound to work...apparently i had to manually update it myself by going to system devices...then i could install hd audio and fax modem...now i have the main components set..i am psyched now.....the guide was awesome!!!!! everything works!!!
Now I have an Acer Aspire 5672 and HP Pavilion dv9320us running XP SP2.... -
I originally own a LG W1 notebook and it runs XP (the HP is not mine) and has the battery miser which gives you the choice whether the CPU works full at battery mode or AC mode, as well as gives you the choice to save power when it works in silent mode (the fan). Is there anything similar to the battery miser.
I will try that, thanks.
As for the "detail" I said, nothing changed either on standard or clear mode. I think that the problem was that I was comparing my screen (1680x1050) with my friend's one (1280x768)...sorry... -
I saw this new apple commercial today and it made me smile and think of this thread.
-
hahahahaha
i love it.
thanks for sharing... if i have more money, i will go MAC -
ROFL that apple commercial is hilarious. i didnt realize that so many people were actually upgrading to Windows XP from Vista that Mac made a commercial about it. lol. the funny thing is, the Mac guy didnt even say anything other than "hello im a mac...... why so professional..... oh downgrading..." or something. the thing is, they made their point..... esp when PC said "i switched to XP a few weeks ago. so much happier"
but macs are cool machines as well.
anyway
you need a valid, legal, working, Windows XP CD first, and you need to copy the contents of the CD to the computer first, then attempt to slipstream SP2.
if you have a dv9320us (dv9000) you could have found all the drivers from the hp website. they are all known to work with no problems. glad the guide worked for you though. also, you could have skipped the SATA driver part (you need a different SATA driver, ICH7M, which can be found via hp website.) -
yeah macs are awesome, esp the BIG screen desktops.... those are too expensive though
-
I just got my dv9610us couple of days ago. i was messing around with it and ended up losing my wireless device. after trying to reinstall it using the restore cds/HD partition, (which didnt work out too great because for some reason Vista installation just gives me an error at 97%)
so i install XP, and soon as i have it running, i try to install the drivers from the HP website. Has anyone have anyluck doing this? because i couldnt get my wireless internet working, and i wasnt sure if the latest forceware drivers for nvidia 7 series would work for my laptops geforce go 7150 (didnt find any xp version inthe hp website) -
You didn't specify which wireless device it was. You may find it in the handy and excellent driver collection referenced in Message #1 of this thread.
Eventually, you can run Everest or an equivalent software to have a detail list of the devices in your laptop. -
I have an HP dv9620us notebook and I downloaded all drivers and followed all instructions on this thread. Many of the drivers did work but the most important one, the ethernet controller did not. I do not know what chipset the dv9620us uses. It is and AMD X2 system board rather than the intel based system board which the dv9500t has. Has anyone found the correct driver for this ethernet controller chipset? Also need the audio drivers since apparently they are different also.
-
It would be preferable for you to open a new thread since this one is more oriented towards Intel. You may come across people who used your model notebook.
-
it seems as if AMD notebooks are having trouble with their chipsets.. i know that it is a nVidia chipset, but the driver isnt supported yet.... as far as i know.
-
I was able to get my new dv6645us pretty much 100% working (ethernet, nVidia chipset, etc). I had to manually edit/modify some inf files for it to work, but it did just fine. Thread over here:

I have problems with getting my webcam up and running after doing the xp-downgrading thing (which worked like a charm btw). I run SP2, so the usb camera appeared in my computer without me doing something. However, running programs like skype the webcam won't start. So I tried the drivers included in the big driver-batch included in this thread - no help. So, any ideas on how to proceed in this matter?
-
if i have OS and Recovery Media do i need Burn the Recovery Disks ? or can skip that part
-
my bet is that you can safely skip it.
-
Followed the instructions provided by TheDave and everything is working fine on my laptop now (dv6535ep). Turns out I had installed the wrong chipset drivers
.
Many thanks to mujjuman, hackez, TheDave and everyone who contributed for this great thread. -
no prob man. yeah AMD users, dont install the intel chipset. i may have to add that to my guide, i thought i already said it though
-
you did, amd users are slower than intel users. punt intended.
-
Hey, dont knock AMD. Just remember who kicking intel's butt for years up till recently. AMD will rise again!
GrandAdmiral
DOWN WITH INTEL! (I know I'm using one of their processors/chipsets/wireless but that wasn't my preferred option! See my desktop specs) -
The batter miser may be LG specific. My boss has a toshiba notebook which has a whole heap of network and performance enhancing tools. You'll have to ask around.
Grand Admiral -
Dude, get a life!
And btw, I didn't install the intel chipset drivers, just the wrong AMD drivers. The CPU-Z utility pointed me in the right direction. -
The problem with slipstreaming the drivers in nLite usually happens at the Nero step. They don't select ISO or use another program to make the CD and it doesn't work. If you are having problem making your slipstreamed CD, make sure to use Nero and click ISO on the left side of the screen.
Agree, an AMD guide is needed because I'm getting e-mails from people asking if I can help them with that. The principles or concepts in this thread and my guide will work for any laptop if you get the correct drivers. But people still e-mail me asking if I can hold their hand through the entire process. I tell them they have to find the drivers on their own and that I don't have time to walk them through it.
The other thing people are still e-mailing me about all the time is the knock off versions of the DV6500T. There's a lower end model with an Intel Centrino Dual core processor which isn't Santa Rosa. Some drivers will work, some won't, again, I can't walk people through each step. In other words, even with these guides, you still have to figure it out for yourself. -
Great thread!
I had a couple newbie questions...
What is nLite and why do you need to use it? What is slipstreaming the drivers mean? Is this something that is necessary no matter what? And, if so, why?
Is that in place of using a USB floppy drive for the initial installation of the SATA controller drivers? Or do you still need to do that as well?
Also, are people experiencing the high-pitch noise at all on the dv9500t? If so, even after installing XP on it?
Thank you for the help.
Ps. mujjuman -- I sent you a PM, hope you don't mind... -
Slipstreaming is the integration of updates, patches or service packs into the installation files of their original software, so that the resulting files will allow a direct installation of the updated software. For example, you would use an XP-SP2 installation cd as a basis and create a new XP-SP2 cd containing all the drivers you need to install xp on your new laptop, which were not on the original cd.
It's a matter of comfort for you. If you don't slipstream, you'll have to implement your drivers one by one every time you install xp on that laptop or equivalent. So, it's not compulsory per se.
nLite is a free program which assists you in carrying out this slipstreaming process.
If you have a USB diskette reader, a slipstreamed cd is not absolutely required. But you could use one where you included all drivers besides the SATA controller driver.
If you have no diskette reader, there is no other choice than integrating your SATA controller driver onto a cd. -
This is how I proceeded to install XP on a laptop with pre-installed Vista. This is just a complement to the excellent Guide mentioned above.

Thanks for the posts. So I'm wondering... if my dv9500t is going to have the 240GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120GB x 2) -- can't I just leave Vista on whichever of the two hard drives it's installed on and then install XP on the other? Or is it not that simple?
Or would I be better off just getting rid of Vista all together and installing XP? Is that easier and less problematic?
(I don't plan to use Vista really, but if it's easier to leave it on there, then that's fine... and you never know when it would prove useful...)
What do you think? -
Hi everyone, i'm from Peru and i was reading this forum because i want to change the OS of my laptop a hp dv9620us, the problem is that i want to be sure if all the drivers you put in the first post is also for AMD boards, i think all of them are not. Also i found this thread in the HP forum, hope this can help to jcasper and me, anyone can tell us if what is said in that forum is right?

Thanks
PD: sorry if my english is bad jejeje i just have 6 months studying it

Nice Walkthrough, and I had a nearly flawless install of WinXP on my dv9500t, except for the network part of it, it says to "start with RTL8169" drivers and I did, then install "RTL8168" drivers? where are the RTL8168 drivers? I did get the LAN icon in my system tray when I installed the RTL8169 Drivers and when I finished installing all the other divers, my LAN would not connect. I see the Ethernet card under "Local Area Connection" but it says "A network cable is unplugged" and it will not connect. I just get a little red X over that connection.
What's weird though, I have a 1394 Connection option next to my Realtek connection that does connect to my wireless router and I can use that to get online.
Any tips or advice to get my Realtek connection work would be sweet.. Thanks
-
haha AMD used to be my first preference, but i still got an intel laptop since the intel chips were way more advanced (atleast at the time of my purchase). i have an AMD powered desktop that i love very much, as i do this intel laptop
oh thats great! what chipset/drivers did you install? can you please point me in the right direction?
wow, i never knew they made a dv6500 with a non-Santa Rosa CPU. i thought all the x500 series were S. R.
its less problematic to delete Vista and install XP on a clean harddrive... but plenty of people have done dual boot with Vista and XP. i just dont know how to do it though. there probably are guides in this forum.
thanks. actually, this is sorta outdated. i wrote that part way back when i first installed XP... i wasnt sure which ethernet card i had, the 8169 or the 8168. later on i figured out that its 8168/8111 PCI-E card and thats the only driver thats included in the driver pack.... so it should have worked for you.
six months? youre doing MUCH MUCH better than i did with my 2 years of spanish/french study
the link you gave us is not working at this time. but to answer your question, most of the drivers in the guide will work for you, but do not install the intel chipset driver. -
have u found any solutions for your hibernate problem? im having the same problem and its driving me crazy waiting for windows to load from a complete shut down all the time!
-
thanks man
i don't know what happen with hp forum it is only available in the day and the afternoon, anyhow, the link shows that some of the drivers for
HP Pavilion dv9000z CTO could work in the dv9620us (that's what one user said here and what is said in the hp forum), i'm not sure of that because i haven't downgrade my laptop yet, but in few hours i'll do it.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224049&lang=en
I almost forgot to say it, thanks mujjuman for this guide, i was looking in the internet how to downgrade from vista to xp for almost 1 month then i read this forum, now i'm ready to start the job and then i'll post if the drivers of the link work or not. -
I have a Windows XP Pro bootable iso image (w sp2).
Is there a way to slipstream the Sata drivers onto that image using nlite, without having to expand the iso image into separte folders and files and then reburn all that bacj to a bootable CD?
Also the Sata drivers included in Hackers driver pack d/l from the mega site are packaged as a zip file. Do those drivers inside the zip file need to be slipstreamed and NOT the zip file?
apologies if any of my questions are a little green!
chris -
hmm, im not sure about AMD laptops, but the dv9000 drivers no dot work for the intel version of dv9500. just so everyone knows, dv9500 refers to any laptop with a model number higher than 9500. dv9000 refers to any laptop with a model number lower than 9500.
you will need to expand the iso first.
you need to extract the zip file first, then select file mentioned in the guide when you are in nLite. -
hi mujjuman, i need the drivers audio and LAN for DV6550ee, the RTL8169 and RTL8168 did not work, kindly advice
thanks -
Some questions about this:
When you say, "If you ever plan to install QuickPlay DirectPlay, do not touch the quickplay button on the quicklaunch keyboard." -- do you mean right at that moment, or don't touch it ever? (Okay, that's probably a dumb questions... but I just want to make sure.
) I'm guessing you mean just don't touch it right then... If so, why is that?)
You say "QuickPlay DirectPlay" -- but isn't DirectPlay something completely different? We're talking about the button on HP notebooks that lets you load/run dvds/music/etc. without booting the whole OS, right?
When I finally get XP on my dv9500t, I actually would prefer *not* to have QuickPlay and for the QuickPlay button to be dead/inactive (I never use it and I found it way too sensitive on a previous/different model laptop). What do I need to do to ensure this? Just don't install the QuickPlay software/drivers?
I also never use the QuickLaunch buttons for anything -- so should I just not bother to install the drivers for those either? Or is that a part of something else that you do need?
Is the QuickPlay dvd player part of the QuickPlay software that includes the button? Meaning, can you install the player but not have the button active?
If I need to just go without that player all together, what is suggested to use to watch dvds on the laptop? Can you just use Windows Media Player? Or is there some other program?
Thanks! -
Mujjuman said:

you need to extract the zip file first, then select file mentioned in the guide when you are in nLite.
in steps 4,9,10, it does not mention any of the files listed below in the satadrivers.zip file.
iaahci.cat
iastor.cat
iaStor.sys
iaahci.inf
iastor.inf
TXTSETUP.OEM
4. Extract the drivers from the file you downloaded. Take note of the SATA folder
9. Now on to slipstreaming the SATA driver. Click on insert, and then select multiple driver folder.
10. Choose the folder again, click OK. Choose the (Mobile ICH8M-E/M) driver, click Next.
The (Mobile ICH8M-E/M) driver IS the Sata driver? I would assume that all of the files listed above from the Satadrivers.zip file, will be needed for the XP install disk to address the hard drive, correct?
Anyway, I haven't actually tried this procedure yet I thought I would dry run it. Maybe things will become clear while going through it. -
Well i finally installed windows xp on my Hp dv9620us i installed everything but now i have 2 problems, first one is the audio, i don't have audio and i have tryed to install it in many ways with many drivers, but it still with no audio
the second problem is about the quickplay buttons, they seem not to be working.
If anyone has fixed those problems please let me know and also that would be helpful for other people with AMD notebooks. thanks. -
sorry for the double post, i have already installed the sound in my notebook, this is the way i did, please keep in mind that my OS is in spanish and i have to translate into english, so maybe what i write differs a little from what you have, let's start:
first i installed the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA), i downloaded from here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224049&os=228&lang=en
then i installed the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224049&os=228&lang=en
after that windows shows me a message: "Driver installation failed ,and could not find the media device for this computer" (or something like that) so i forced the sound drivers:
1.- Go to Device Manager
2.- Look for HD Audio, click on it.
3.- Look for updates.
4.- Choose "no, not at this time" for connecting to Windows Update.
5.- Install from a specific location.
6.- Do not search I will choose the driver to install.
7.- Click on "have a disk".
8.- Finally browse C:\Swsetup\sp34200 and choose the only file.
After that you will have audio on the computer, well at least this works for me. I hope i can help someone with the same problem.
-
hmm, i am not familiar with the "ee" model. do you have an AMD laptop or an intel laptop? if you have AMD, download and install the dv6000z driver.
is it possible for you to tell me what model LAN card you have?
np dude.
its part of my screenshots. yes, all of the files are needed so that the harddrive is accessable. these will be slipstreamed to the CD. click on iastor.inf in nLite, and choose the Mobile ICH8M-E/M driver. yes thats the driver.
hey man thanks for this procedure! it seems as if the AMD laptops use the older 6000/9000 version of the drivers....... -
At last! Someone with my problem! I mean... Sorry to hear that, its a pain isn't it? Lol. I did some experiments with selective startup and thought i had it tracked down to the Intel Wireless Monitor. It was tricky to pin down though, the hibernation problems only happened when i turned on the wireless and turned it off again then tried to hibernate. If i left wireless off it was fine, if i left wireless on it was fine. So i uninstalled everything except for the driver component and it seemed to have fixed it. Unfortunately the problem has returned although its fairly manageable for me. Haven't had it fail for a while (And now i've said that I'm sure it will now). Dunno what causes it, seems to happen randomly. If you work out anything let me know.
ADDITIONAL: I am having a different issue to my previous stated problem thought. Occasionally when i select hibernate, windows comes up with the preparing to hibernate screen, goes to a black screen for a moment, then returns to the windows desktop with a yellow and black exclamation symbol in the taskbar and pop-up bubble saying 'Insufficient system resources to complete the operation'. Anyone got any ideas? I am running with no pagefile (soon to be reactivated) but i have 2GB of RAM.

Same. I like the desktop for games but the laptop is also a good all-rounder now that i have it working *almost* perfectly.

No problem mujjuman, you gave me a lot of help with this tutorial, what i posted was only a little help. Thank you so much, i will continue reading the posts trying to help a little bit.

I have a dv6541ev laptop and I installed XP just fine, using this fabulous guide. The only problem I have is that the remote isn't working. Which one is its driver?
Thanks in advance.
