Thanks for this thread! I didn't even notice it before. I just recently ordered a DV7t to go along with my 9700t, though boy I love the new HDX's too.....may have to return the DV7 and get an HDX16 or 18.

I have a HP HDX 18T( Windows Vista Ultimate ,Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Processor Q9000 (2.00Ghz), 500GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (250GB x 2), 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, Blu-Ray +/-R/RW with SuperMulti, 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - For 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics, Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid), Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth, HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner, 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery, System Recovery DVD, Microsoft(R) Office Professional 2007, 3-year HP Accidental Damage Protection with HP Pick Up and Return, MoGoX54 Bluetooth Mouse, HP xb4 Notebook Media Docking Station, HP 250GB Pocket Media Drive, HP 500GB Personal Media Drive, Belkin Vista Migration Cable, ...
I am Having the same issues with the tuner not working in vcm but works well in the smart media center I have contacted the Aver manfacture directly and found out that none of there software works with this tuner .
I have downloaded all the avalable software from them and tried it . The tech told me I should try the PCI-E versions first to see if I could use there software but to no aval nothing works.
I even back steped it back to vista 32bit using the original hp vista recovery dvd set from my other one the only difference between this one and the other machine is the processor and OS most everything else is the same and the recovery dvd set worked I was supprised but nothing at all and going to write a moduel for the hp smart media software to see if i can get the EPG added back in. I also contacted Tech support at HP and found out that the version they are using has a few more features than the one released in the production units theres have the EPG , renaming and a couple other minor choices that the realeased version doesnt have so am hoping erverything goes well with everyone trying to correct this or the VMC issue either or would be nice but think will have better luck with the HP SmatrMedia version.
If this helps anyone let me know will update if I can write the moduel and post it when its ready .

I figured I could help with the little things and I speak dumbed down becuase I am not a Ninja.. so maybe my simple explanation would work sometimes.. or I am happy to reffer to one of the nicer Ninja's here for the things I can not help with..

The logo's and everything the site and the people who are here offer is fantastic and very kool.. I know I sound like a Noob but the site and the people ROCK!

Sorry to be such a geek about it all, JW

Hi guys i need some help. I have a HP HDX16t. My GPU's (GeForce 9600M GT) temperature is in the high 50 C idle. Is this normal? I am afraid it will fry my MOBO. I don't game or do any intensive work on my latop, just internet brwosing. Will appreciate any help especially for those who have the same laptop i have.
N.B: My NVIDIA driver version is the official HP 179.32

I have a 130m... so I do not know all that much about your GPU..

Justin does have a list of the newest drivers on this http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404164
page.. maybe there is a newer(ish) update..

My GPU runs under use around 100+ F.... 37 C.. but I also use a laptop cooler which could be the difference as well I have a HDX18 which may give the GPU a little more cooling based on the air space available inside..

I dont know if that helped but I would also repost your question in the HDX16 user page.. or post area.. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=300646

or under the general HP page and maybe someone with your machine and matching spec can give you a real time temp.. http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3

Are you using a cooler?

Be well, JW

It's perfectly normal. Temps of up to 90C are acceptable in a laptop. I like to keep it under 80 though.

Thanks for the repy. When you say it's perfectly normal, do you mean under stress or at idle (barely some internet browsing)? My GPU temp is in the high 50s at idle. I am a bit worried especially given NVIDIA's recent history.

I mean 90C full load.

The 8400GS in my dv9700 runs in the 60s at idle, especially since i have disabled powermizer as it was making my sound crackle a lot. It runs perfectly and i have not seen any signs of failure even though the chip is overclocked and it is on the "bad" list. Also the fan in this thing is quiet as a whisper at idle, and hardly ramps up even when gaming. It's because it's a large notebook and can spread out the heat more effectively.

Ultimately it's load temps that matter, so if your load temps are under 90 you shouldn't worry about idle.

Stick the code form the first post into your sig.

For example go to "user CP" > "edit signature"

then paste this:
HTML:

and click "save signature".

And look what I had requested to be done just for you so you could stack other user bars.

But only userbars 350 x 20 are stackable, i.e., can have more than one pic in sig.

Can't mix a user bar with a pic, though.
