It doesn't say it will detect the mobile GPU in the Envys correctly, the only 7000 series it says that it is updated to detect specifically is 7970 and 7350. Until they update it with proper support, I would regard its results with a large grain of salt.
-
I'm fairly convinces the current version is reporting properly anyway. GPU-z usually gets at least the info about the core right, as it is coded into the chip itself. Updates might fix a couple things like the ROPs and the standard clock speeds, but the core, and actual running chip speeds are probably right already.
-
Looks like my Envy 17 that shipped today was received after the Fedex cutoff so the new EDD is 12/23. This is probably the case for all 17 and 17 3D Envys that shipped today.
-
Mine delayed also
-
FWIW, notebookcheck put up a page for the 7690m. They have no page for the 7690m XT.
AMD Radeon HD 7690M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
Ironically, the codename is and always has been "Thames XT." I am seriously gonna laugh so hard if they're the same thing. I'm not even pissed any more, this is just pure comedy. -
Mine shipped today also. Fedex tracking says they were picked up at December 20th at 10:23PM in Shanghai, China after the Fedex cutoff time. Estimated delivery to here (Texas) is supposed to be by 10:30am Friday the 23rd. The original HP order has always said they wouldn't even ship until the 23rd, so I consider this excellent news since I wasn't expecting them to arrive until after Christmas
-
You can't really fault HP for this. They have no control over how fast Fedex is with the standard 5-7 day business class shipping. Getting a package delivered from halfway around the planet in just 3 days is an amazing bonus -- the proverbial icing on the cake. None of us who opted for the free, base-level shipping even really had a reasonable expectation of getting such faster delivery, especially during the Holidays.
Sometimes Fedex is smoking fast and can deliver way ahead of normal expected schedule, and sometimes not. That's a gamble that you take with the cheaper shipping option.
When you pay the premium for 2-day expedited shipping, (unless something goes bad wrong) you pretty much are guaranteed to get that. -
mine's in transit
-
So what rebranded model is the 7670m in the 15 envy.
-
It's not the 7670m, it's the 7690m (non-XT). Whatever that is, we really have no idea, this crap is all over the place. All info including notebookcheck lists the 7690m as the same specs as the 7690m XT that Stefan posted.
-
We are going to have to take a wait-and-see approach to this. The 15's come in on Thursday and the 17's on Friday here in the US. I think we will have a solid idea by Saturday the difference
-
This I got from HP partsfinder this morning.
15 envy 668847-001 SYSTEM BOARD HM65 7670M/1G - DSC
17 envy 665934-001 SYSTEM BOARD HM67 HD6770M/1G 3D -DSC
If the 7690M XT is a rebranded HD6770M and the envy 15 is slower this would make sense. -
Initially it was called the 7670m in the 15 and the 7690m in the 17. Those names were later changed to 7690m and 7690m XT. It's just wait and see what is actually in them, since HP continually refuses to disclose it, and the HP rep on these boards is somehow incapable of getting an answer from the company that he earns a living marketing for.
Pretty hilarious that the partsfinder lists the 17 as 6770m though, they couldn't even bother to rebrand the name on there lol. -
Do you need to take a breather again?
We get you're annoyed - you don't need to come to this thread and spread all of this negativeness around. We'll learn about it when we learn about it.
Your fault for buying it before you knew what was inside.
-
Lol I haven't bought it yet. Why would I do that?
Also, edvb was critical of my comments yesterday, but it's apparent now that he didn't even know 90% of the info that's gone back and forth so far. I'm just trying to make sure people know what the deal is, 100%, with no sugar coating. -
Wow, so you haven't even bought the machine, yet you are the one here constantly complaining about HP.
If you have not bought it, and do not plan on buying it, please leave. I'm not even trying to be rude, you have no reason to be in a thread discussing the computers which you have no plan of getting.
Many of us will be satisfied with the massive discounts and great computers we got. Some of us will be disappointed and return them. It's all up to them, not what you think should happen.
-
I do plan on buying it, if the specs match up to what we should get int he product. That doesn't mean I can't be critical of what is going on here.
-
I can understand, it is very poorly handled - but that doesn't mean they will be horrible.
You just have to be patient and wait until we can check the difference properly, which from the look of it, will only be on this coming Saturday. -
Guuuys will there be IPS screen on 17inch version?
-
Note to Poll Creator - add #3. I bought one of each!
-
Current info says no, only in the 15.
-
It doesn't seem like it will be an IPS panel on the 17 or 17 3D. They seem to only be Radiance panels, which isn't half bad either. The better of the two would be the 17 3D, because of the higher brightness and the 120Hz refresh rate.
-
They should also refund the exhorbitant $40 shipping charge for the separately shipped warranties. I'll be calling about that once my hardware arrives!
-
I think HP only ever alluded to IPS on the 15.
-
Bull
I have read every post here and on other forums so I do know what is going on!
It still is not clear with the latest info so that is why I brought it up.
My two envy's are coming on 12-22 and 12-23 .
I just teased you a little yesterday but going through all your posts in this forum shows the majority are critial and negative about the product and members here.
YMTCW -
No, they confirmed IPS on the 15, but have rejected IPS on the 17" models due to "unavailability of IPS Panels". Either way, it has been confirmed.
-
Nope. The 17 inchers are LED-backlit TN panels. Both the 3D and the non-3D are TN.
-
Mine shipped, but has exception... Probably going to be after the Christmas.
-
The HP partsfinder also showed the Radiance screen to be anti-glare.
The seems to confirm what was posted earlier and is made by LG.
The Envy 15 has a glossy protective cover over the screen.
That also make sense now. -
"Raidance" is just a marketing term, and has no real technical meaning. They could be any number of different panel technologies and would fall under the HP "Radiance" category.
Hell, HP is calling their backlit keyboard a "Radiance kayboard".
I agree that the 120 Hz refresh is worth getting the 3D even if you're not really gonna use it for 3D. -
My 17 3d is still showing in production. I ordered on the 7th before my 15 so my news isn't as good as the others. Was hoping I'd get both before Christmas, but that doesn't look so likley now.
-
I believe everyone's has an exception. They used to be the 22nd, but changed to the 23rd. Either way, hopefully we get it then!
-
There is no evidence that the 17" will be an IPS and no-one has claimed that it will be AFIAK.
-
Thanks for the photos (Great Quality) and update Stefan. I hope you enjoy it.. She sure is a beauty and I must say, I like the way they did the bottom of the 17's this time. Much easier to get to things than removing screws....
-
I think the black top and bottom is really cool styling, and differentiates it a bit from the MBP.
-
Agreed, I really love the black and gray with red accents. The bag I ordered for my 17 3D is also Gray with Black and Red Accents - so it works! I can't wait.
-
I think the exception you see is due to this in the details column: "Package received after FedEx cutoff"
I still think some will get the 17 on Thursday, most will get it on Friday. -
My 1st one still shows delivery on 12-22.
The second one changed from 12-22 to 12-23 just a little while ago.
Both had an exception on them. -
So it seems some people might get it on the 22nd, lucky b*stards..
-

I should be getting it Thursday. Friggin excited. I want the GPU to be decent. My friend has a DV6t and he can run Skyrim on at least high no problem. If I can't do that bye bye Envy until they refresh again. -
Even if it's the same as what we saw in the 17, Skyrim on high at 1080p seems pushing it. Maybe high at a lower res or medium at 1080p will probably be more realistic.
-
Just to let you guys know that HP return policy is AWESOME!
I just returned my dv6z & I replaced it with the Envy 17 that I ordered on Dec. 15.
No questions asked/no fees out of my pocket/account will be credit in 3 to 5 business days.
If for some reason you need to return an order, don't even worry about it.
There is a 21-day return policy.
HP chat session logs with a woman agent:
"Ah, okay. That's a better choice!"
"You have an excellent choice of computer, Michael! We received a great deal of positive feedback on its powerful performance and captivating entertainment features."
"Also, you'll never be interested to look for a new girlfriend with that awesome laptop."
"I'll keep my mouth shut now and process a returns request right away." -
Lol, did you get her number?
-
I've been quoted multiple times as being able to play Skyrim @ 1080p on high settings. I really don't like how you're bending the incomplete findings of this GPU to your pessimistic conclusion you seem to have there.
It's not helping anyone. Once again, I ask that you wait until Saturday, when we will know for sure. Hell, it might even be today, because Stefan will be installing Skyrim on his ENVY 17 and checking.
Just be patient before you spout things like they're true. -
I'll be excited when I see FedEx stop at my house and not before then. These are the only deliveries I have coming from FedEx.
BTW, Apple stuff comes from the same area and the transit times are pretty accurate. Know someone who worked in FedEx logistics. Most shipping issues out of that location are customs and security clearances. -
SoulMisaki
That Chrome Buran Messenger Bag look prety nice.
I would like to find a nice custom one, color cordinated for the 15 myself. -
AMD Radeon HD 6770M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
The new chip should be slightly faster than the 6770m. Notebookcheck has this to say about the 6770m, this is what I was basing it on:
This isn't really bad, it's basically fine for me, I'm just hoping it's not less than this in the 15. -
Well, she' got my email.
She probably thinks I'm some sort of pervert, saying I won't need a girlfriend with my new purchase. -
I got it while they had their 12-hour 50% off sale. The next one you could get would be a timbuk2 bag, but they cost upwards of +100.
Thing is, it's more than just slightly faster. We still do not know how much more powerful than a 6770M it is, and you can't use a 6770M as a reference point if we don't know the difference in power. -
Ok, if you still don't want to make a single inference from the fact that we found out it's the same 480 SP Whistler core, running at the same 725 MHz, confirmed by an end user's GPU-z, notebookcheck page, and all information that was available before release that's fine. Not really the most rational position to have, but whatever.
10-20% is not "more than just slightly faster", FYI.
If a 6770m gets 30 fps at a given game and settings, 10% more is 33 fps, 20% more is 36 fps. Adds almost no headroom to turn up settings. I am making reasonable approximations of performance based on available information, that's all. If you don't like it, put me on ignore or something I guess.
