It is slower than the 6850M benchmark I pulled back in the spring.

Thanks a lot Stefan! That gives people some data points for assessing what they are going to get. For me personally, it doesn't matter much!
Quick question: Did you upgrade the drivers etc. to latest before running this test? -
Stefanp67
How is the track pad?
Does it work well or do you see some problems with it -
-
That make me feel better.
We will see for sure in a couple of days. -
-
Thanks for all the game tests Stefan! Seems like it will be fine for games. Around 1080p, it should be able to get around 30fps with some setting changes - that's fine for me.
If you could run any of the tests they do here, let us know how they compare. If they match up, it would mean that the 15 tests on the article also should match.
Either way, I can't wait to get my ENVY 17 3D. -
But. dustin.dk (and dustin.se) is shipping the base model. This is where stefan (the only dude in the world with one) got his. -
According to the Skyrim benchmarks posted here, the 6770m gets 43 fps on medium and 29 fps on high.
Both of these are on a MBP 15, with a SB quad, and similar screen res (1440x900 or 1680x1050 depending on the model) and runs the card slightly downclocked at 675 Core instead of 725.
Seems like an almost identical match to what we see here if you consider the 50 MHz downclock. This card matches up almost identically in Skyrim with the 6770m.
If the 15 is slower than this, I will be really disappointed. -

I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world. -
) about two days after the US started taking orders back on the 7th.
If you're like me, stuck in London with little to do except twiddle your thumbs and dream about the new power and style, you'd find a friend in the states and get them to order for you.
Mine's coming on the 6th btw!
And while I have time, smashing job Stefan. Your contributions are highly appreciated even down in Britain! Have yourself a cup of tea! -
Thanks again Stefan for all your input & hard work.
I'm so glad that I did not receive my laptop first!
Too much pressure for me to handle. -
-
Any thoughts on the trackpad Stefan? Also how is the screen?

I hope fedex doesn't do this to our computers: FedEx Guy Throwing My Computer Monitor - YouTube

For anyone who hasn't bought an Envy, there is another 30% off coupon on techbargains. It's good through December 31.

That's what he gets for living in mansion.
I wonder if the driver was fired........ -

Thanks Roseus -
Trying the trackpad now, the 2 finger zoom unzoom works fine, 2 finger scrolling also works fine. I don't know any more 2 finger gestures than this but in general the trackpad feels fine with a surface that gives feedback when moving. Buttons (or the the part of the pad below the line) are distinct and not to soft to press. Wow i greatly disliked my dv7 trackpad but this one can actually be used.

Here is one more Fedex video, pretty funny, but it's long:

I was waiting for a new coupon, since I wanted the 300gb SSD in mine -

.
I have been on battery now for 20 minutes and battery is showing 95% with an estimated 6 hours 36 minutes left. -
If you love it, keep it, obviously. But any speck of regret will only grow I presume.
Just my 2 cents, not that it matters
EDIT: Probably sounds like I'm trying to convince you to do it. I'm not. I don't have my hands on your machine so I can't say -
theoptimusdime, I know you have good intentions & you just want him to be happy with his purchase without any regrets.
The good thing is he has 21-day, if he decides to return it.
I hope HP honors that same return policy all over the world. -
Well keep in mind games will play faster a bit faster at that res.

How about Battlefield 3 fps?
-
Maybe this question was answered before, just don't feel like reading 219 pages.
Is the graphics card replaceable in the Envy 17 or is it soldered to the board?
Thx. -
There was an HP dissasembly document posted somewhere in this thread. It doesn't show any MXM gpu's, only shows a heatsink covering a chip that is mounted to the motherboard. -
A little summing up after having the Envy 17-3000eo for 2 days:
On the minus side:
- Dented usb port and scratch beside left ctrl key => probably an accident in the factory since all seals looked ok.
- Fan noise on the right side is a little annoying in a quiet room, coolsence off or on does nothing => need more fan settings like ultra quiet fan mode
- Now and then when i type i seem to loose a letter here and there and has to go back and correct => maybe i am not yet used to the chiclet keyboards or need a finger nail trimming
On the neutral side:
+/- The 7690m-xt is not a bad performer but it is not that far above the 6770m so lets say it is ok but by no way a grim reaper in the graphics business.
+/- Speakers are ok with good volume but don't expect them to sound as your home theater system. I think they do beat most if not all laptop speakers around today but they are still laptop speakers.
On the positive side:
+ I really like the trackpad.
+ Beats volume control is superb (i can't live without it now)
+ Backlit keyboard were you can dim or brighten the led's
+ Over all a high quality feeling
+ Fast harddive (7200rpm 750GB WD) and very snappy system overall
+ HP masterad the subject of switching graphics, very easy to use and very easy to understand
+ Been on battery for an hour and a half surfing and posting, battery down to 76% and an estimated 5 hours 10 minutes left. So 6-7 hours battery time does not sound impossible for the active surfer, maybe even 1-2 more hours for those not active 100% of the time which i have been (damn flash battery eating ads).
+ 2 year Norton Internet Security and Adobe Premiere and Photoshop Elements
+ Webcam is ok
+++++ No crapware => thank you HP
+ Having had and getting 3rd degree burns from the first gen envy 17 i can say that the third gen doesn't get warm even when running furmark and wprime for an extended period simultanously
Battery update: 2 hours 20 minutes on battery and 63% left so it looks like i can squeeze at least 6.5 hours out of the battery, i can't almost believe it's a quad core i7 and a upper midrange or lower high end graphics adapter under the hood. -
The ASUS would be 3 pounds heavier to carry around, it would be plastic construction, it would have traditionally keyboard audio controls, and it would be an additional $100 + Shipping.
For $100 less, I get a metal construction, best audio speakers on a laptop, a 3D screen, a bluray player, HDD protection, 4 year warranty (2 year accidental), and 5 hours more battery life. Only thing I had to sacrifice was the GPU, from a GTX 560M to a AMD 7690M-XT, which doesn't impact me much.
Thanks so much for your impressions - a final set of pictures would be great if you could, I can't get enough of the sleek look of this laptop! (And no, MBPs are too plain.) -
@SoulMisaki
Funny as I was considering the Asus G74SX before this as well. Glad I waited as this looks like a better overall laptop. -
-
Great job fielding all of the requests! Very much appreciated..... -
-
-
I'm sure it wont happen to anyone else though, so lol, don't worry. -
seems only HP can redirect the fedex package, and fedex wont hold it until it's already attempted to be delivered. total pain in the . hope this doesn't fk with my 3 week return option.

Question for you guys (I can't display the configuator properly in my iPhone. What is the cheapest SSD option and is it worth it? Do you think
Hp has other options coming up? Maybe i should just drop the dual HDDs and pick up a hybrid drive later on... -
