oh god, you know ur laptop is complete crap when it cant play 720p bluray movies at 25 fps....
    -------
on another note (while i let my laptop cool down from its endeavor of playing hd material) how much of a performance boost will this updated envy be to my desktop (i7 3720qm+7750m vs. phenom 9500 locked at 2.2 ghz, and hd 6770 @ pci 2.1 and 6 gb ddr2 vs 8-12 ddr3 and ssd vs 5200 rpm hdd, and 1050p vs 1080p :D :D)

Why won't my browser go past page 44 when it shows page 46 has been started? When I made this post it jumped me to current page 46 but browser won't allow viewing of page 45? When I click on page 45 it just jumps back to page 44. Wierd.

The only thing I'm afraid of about the new Envy 15 is the lack of driver support for the 7750m, especially if HP employs its own proprietary GPU switching again. I had nightmares with my 7690m on my dv6 (which I have since returned) because the driver support from HP was awful. That's why I just went for the new dv6 with the GT650m + Optimus since I know only NVidia is responsible for the drivers and not HP. Besides, the Intel+NVidia combo is just more reliable than Intel+AMD.

I liked amd graphics switching more becuase it offered a fixed mode for manual swithcing. Sometimes the automatic switching does not recognize certain programs. Also i never had any driver issues with my dv6t with the 6770m.

Yeah the 6770m was no problem, but the 7690m barely had any support. Maybe it's just because HP meant to put the 7750m in the Late 2011 Envys but since they got delayed they just needed a stopgap solution which was the 7690m, just a rebranded 6750m but with almost no drivers. The 7750m is most likely gonna be better in terms of support.

Why have they decided to go with the 7750m instead of the much faster 650m? Seems like the Envy 15 is always taking the back seat to the dv6t in the graphics department...

Much faster ? If it is indeed faster the difference shouldn't be higher than 10-15%. I'd gladly trade that performance against reasonable temps. The new dv6 is frightening in that regard imho.

I agree, i am not sure how much this applies to the newer dv6 but my dv6-6000 gets very hot and is extremely loud when gaming. The better cooling system on the envy is a trade off worth makin

Well the 650M is an approximate 11% increase from the 560M, and the 7770m is listed as about 5% below the 560m. Since the 7750m is has the same number of cores (512) as the 7770m, but they are clocked 100 MHz lower (575MHz vs. 675MHz), I imagine the difference should be around 20-30% in favor of the 650m, which is enough to be quite noticeable.

If the Envy had a better cooling system couldn't it afford to house faster components?

i think the 7750m will be a base card if its not as fast as the 650m (to compete with 630). there will prolly be an upgrade. also, the base line is envy on cooling and dv6 is considered "hot" so why would u want to go from "cool" to "hot"?

I dunno how likely it is that they would add more options for a gpu in the envy but this is kinda just like how they gave the dv6 the 3820QM i7 while only giving the envy a 3610QM i7 which also has a pretty significant performance difference but i guess we can only really compare the two once we know the final specs options on the envy
But even if the dv6 is better in these two aspects I would still go with the envy just because its runs cooler

again, we dont know wether its base model specs we are seeing, or the highest specs or quick ship specs, i highly doubt they are only gonna offer 1 cpu option for the envy. last configs with sandy bridge, dv6 and envy tied. its just envy is a premium line with metal and better cooling and better display. also even if its the only cpu/gpu offered i will still get it cause its a beastin lookin laptop with nice screen, decent specs, nice speakers, nice metal build. only thing i regret is no keypad but i can lvie without that.
    ----
also if thats base/quickship specs, thats amazing considering they are putting an ssd in there for the lower end, i wonder what is the higher end :D :D

I am basing my assumption that the i7 3610qm is the best processor that they will be offering on the maintenance and service (There is more than one in it) guide that hp released for envy 15-3200 but i agree that we still do not know if there will be other processors but so far the guide has been correct on everything so i kinda gave up hope for somethin better :(

Woah. Can i see a source for those numbers? The only benchmarks i can find for the 7770m a from notbookcheck and it does just about the same as the GDDR5 GT 650m.

given that the 560m is based on the gts 450, and that the 7750 is the base of the 7750m, going for the benchies that are available, the AMD has quite a lead in that.

Being downclocked by 225mhz by from the 7750, its still going to pack a hell of a punch, I dont for a moment believe that its going to be anywhere as slow as you claim to be.

you downclock 100mhz and take away 20-30% of performance? if that is how overclock works, I really dont know why you bother to buy any new gpu at all, since this aint what we usually get the in terms of performance improvement from one gen to the other. Basically far off.

Im thinking that it should be on par with what nvidia offers. Im hoping it will be better.

Until the 77x0M's ship, it's still speculation, since test rigs have been desktop systems using gimped versions of desktop gpus to simulate the mobile parts. All speculation is that the GDDR5 650m will be faster than the 7750m, but not by a very wide margin.

The issue with AMD drivers on HP machines is that we've historically had to install an HP driver to have switchable graphics, and instead of offering a package every time AMD updates their drivers, HP offers maybe three driver updates during the life of the machine, the last one typically 8-10 months into its lifespan, so we have to try to shoehorn new AMD drivers into the machine after that or in between updates.

The models we've seen have no real bearing on US models. On previous Envy releases, some non-US models have been shipped with entirely different GPUs, no upgraded screen, and some strange part combinations. Outside of the US and maybe one or two other markets, HP offers no Configure-to-Order (CTO) service, so everything is a "quickship" model, but not necessarily anything like the US quickship model will be.

I can't wait till it's released so I can finally get a new laptop. My junky Compaq Persario is so hot and loud, even performing simple tasks makes the thing go wild. It burns my legs too!

Although, it was nice in the winter to use that thing as a heater. I swear, just by using it, it cut my heating bill in half!

And do you guys think this will be any more expensive than the Envy's out right now?

What's the difference between hp envy 14 beats edition and the envy 15 other than screen size? Also is it worth buying the 15 now or is Ivy Bridge bound to be released soon? I need something other than this crappy dell studio 17" for school and diablo3/sc2. Recommendations?

Also I see that the HP Envy Spectre XT Ultrabook is to be released June 8th for $999 with Ivy Bridge

i would be looking at the xt but no gfx :(. also the difference b/w the two is better gpu, better screen, better speakers, same weight? (close to same anyway) better sexiness (my opinoin) in the 15. I would love it if they brought back the 14in with the same styling as the new envy 15 but not gonna happen :(. the card in the envy right now is more than enough i think for d3 and sc2 (on another forum just now a person said they could play d3 on almost max settings 1080p on a 540m, so the envy shouldnt have any problem with that.

yeah more than likely. remember you will only be able to get the quickship model on the older one when the new comes out. the quick ship is around 1.2-1.3k i think? check out the difference b/w the old quick ship dv6-6xxx vs dv6-7xxx to see how much the price will drop. I think the price has come close to 1k (1.1k i believe with 33% coupon, i7, 1080p)

any new info/ release date??? btw do the foreign sites still have the new envy listed? I am dieing of waiting :( parents wont let me order dv6 as a transitional laptop, they want a 1 and done sort of thing. I just hope it realeases soon with a good coupon 400off/30%off atleast :S

If the envy 15 32XX does come out on monday, im going to a very unsatisfied customer. I got my envy a month ago, and before i did, i did some research and found out the IVB Envy's aren't due till summer/fall and now if it does come out. I'm going to be very pleased, you guys think HP will let me exchange it for a IVB model?

Like most of you, I've been waiting for the Envy 15 refresh... but why in god's name would I buy a 15-inch laptop with a resolution of 1366x768? I hope there's an upgrade panel through the HP customizer (and preferably a better video card).

Ah yeah, the TBA is near the description at the top, but there's one toward the middle that has June 22.

And yeah, they're probably guessing too, but maybe they're making an educated guess. So maybe they were told they'd get the stock in June, and they're just picking random days in the month.

    Guys,

I tweeted to HPUK asking whether or not the ivy bridge envy 15 would make it to the UK after failing to with the last model. Their response..

Is it really worth the effort for the handful of you to buy an interim laptop and return it when the Ivy Bridge Envy comes out? If it's only a month or two I'd save myself the trouble of all the installation/personalization back and forth. I realize it's not too time consuming but two months goes by fast.

dont worry about low res screen. if ur in the US u will have an option for a gorgeous fhd screen (I hope, i would even take the problemed ips screen)

no u wont be able to the processors are soldered on =\ btw u might also wanna wait for a better screen that is to come in the refresh

lol it might be worth it if u need the laptop now. I have been waiting since october for a laptop, i guess i can wait another few weeks

well you did know that it was gonna come out around the summer time :p. but if u needed the laptop a month ago, then dont worry about it. you made the best choice. if it was just a random impulse decision .... ouch. I think if you really wanted to, you could probably sell it on ebay/craigslist for a discounted price and then buy ivy i highly doubt hp will let u exchange after a month.

...and be to honest, even though HP is big business, it's kind of messed up to purchase something with an intention just to return it.

That would be like buying a book, only to return it when you're done reading it.
