Of course they're going to refresh it as soon as possible. No knowledgeable person would buy the current model because it's going to be outdated in literally one or two weeks. Unless HP is absolutely oblivious to the current market situation, they're going to get this thing out as soon as humanly possible so as to compete with the new line of Ivy Bridge laptops from Apple and all the other Manufacturers. All it is is a bloody incremental spec update-- they aren't redesigning the line or anything.

the new envy 15 is already up on hp korea, so isn't it just a matter of weeks before it comes out here?

Hoping the next one will reverse the trend. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I was hoping that they would get rid of the ODD again, and remake the beauty of the envy 15 gen 2 -
-
well the dual cores have been released early
hopefully we see the new envys released soon
thanks to xeofreestyle for finding it first

As much as I may have been inconvenienced a bit when I needed to burn DVDs over the past few years, if they can get the thickness back down around 1" (or less) it would be well worth it IMO. -
. this is just a minor refresh for upgrade cpu/gpu. all the asthetics/design is gonna remain the same. I would be looking out for no ODD in the 15-4xxx refresh tho
(by then hopefully I am able to sell the 15 32xx and buy the 4xxx)
but then again it doesnt hurt us to hope -
According the the HP website, the Memorial Day sale ends June 2. According to The Verge ( Microsoft confirms $14.99 Windows 8 upgrade promotion, starts June 2nd | The Verge), the upgrade to Windows 8 promotion starts on June 2.
Maybe HP wanted to wait til at least June 2 to make sure all future Envy's would be eligible for this upgrade? -
ugh i cant wait anylonger lol... just release them already
-
I wonder if this was also a factor:
Unreleased Intel Core i7-3740QM and i7-3840QM CPUs sighted
If they think these will replace the 3720 and 3820, maybe they're also delaying til they can have the option of the best chips in the Envy line.
Just theorizing. -
-
Another small update: I've been going to HP.com everyday and checking out the laptops on the off-chance something snuck in. I usually click laptops, then "brand" on the left hand side, then pick "Envy" from there. There, it shows how many options are available.
Yesterday there were 13 under Envy. Today there are 11. These include the customizable models and quick ship models. I'm not sure which are missing (I still see the basic customizable ones), but maybe this means they're finally getting rid of old inventory. -
Hp is really slacking on releasing this laptop. So now i'm stuck on what laptop to choose.
Sony Vaio S15- looks great, light weight, 1080P IPS screen
Samsung Series 7 15 inch (everything I want from a laptop) minus the crappy screen.
Macbook pro (if they release a retina display, they pretty much have me sold)
If any of these laptops release before the envy, I will be getting one of them.... -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
The reason HP is waiting on the IB Envy 15 is the lack of dual-core IB processors. When the IB i5's come, the IB Envy 15 will be soon to follow. -
-
I've basically narrowed it down to:
HP Envy 15"
Sony Vaio S 15"
Asus N56V
Or if I decide I want something even more portable/slimmer/sleek:
Samsung Series 9
Asus Zenbook Prime
Ahh, it would really help if one of these laptops were available. (I know the Asus N56V is on Amazon, but that has a low-res screen and it is my last choice between the Envy/Asus/Sony. -
. also the n56 is too thick. what card does the viao have? I would also pick up the mbp.. if its worth it
-
I think the Vaio has an Nvidia GT 640M, which is fine with me. I don't really play any new games (hardly play at all). When I do want to play it is usually Civ IV or Civ V, which this laptop can handle really well.
I am not considering a MBP at all. Not a fan of Apple laptops. IMO they are overpriced. Yes, you do get a solid build and quality machine, but Apple overcharges for RAM, usually uses a slower hard drive (or makes you pay unreasonable amounts to upgrade) and I'd rather have Windows 7 over OSX. The only thing that really entices me is the possibility of a "Retina" (hate that term, more Apple marketing...) display. -
. also if i was in ur situation, I would get the zenbook with gt 620m. I do want to play demanding games at decent detail so thats why im looking at envy... if i wasnt gonna game i would get the zenbook with its smexy design and display
-
Although I really shouldn't be gaming and focus on my work/studies. I feel by getting the Zenbook, I'm tying my hands and won't be able to play the latest games, which is both a blessing and a curse. -
-
It's June 2nd
-
I am more than likely going end up going with the Zendbook, FULL HD, GT 620 and HDD. I was going go with the ENVY but its too big and thick. I was thinking of the Samsung Series 7 14inch but the screen sucks and has a lot of problems that haven't been fully addressed like ASUS has done.
Zenbook is sexy and going be light. I don't really game and if I were to it would only be D3. -
-
I'm really starting to get pissed off. Just announce a release date at least...
-
-
-
-
apparently everyone is waiting for comps to be shown here and fully "official" release of the other dual core procesors -
-
my pockets are burning....
-
well while we are waiting what other laptops r u considering?
Possible options under consideration (ranked):
1) Envy 15
2) Dell xps 15/15z
3) MBP (nice screen prolly nice specs, early release? but pricey)
4) LG P535/A540-T/D/A540 (look nice but availablity?)
5) Gigabyte P2542G (powerful, might be bulky, might be plasticy, no backlit)
7) Toshiba Satellite P850/P855 (ehh)
8) Lenovo y580 (prolly last choice =\ too bulky)
Ruled out:
-asus N46/N56 (gt 650m is only ddr3)
-HP dv6tqe/dv6z (too many problems, plasticky, big)
-Sager NP8131 (too bulky, expensive, bland)
-samsung s9/s5/s7 (no gpus/fhd/get same thing in xps15)
-lenovo y480 (too bulky, not a good screen, bad gpu) -

My mom markets tech for Radioshack and I had her take my list of questions to the guy who buys computers for the company, and he said that the envy refresh will probably be announced in a week or 2 and will be on shelves around the beginning of July, or possibly earlier depending on where you get it. Sometimes I wish I didn't go nerd mode when it came to buying this or I'd be playing on my new 15 right now and not knowing what I'd be missing out on -.- this is going to be one helluva upgrade from a 17" Dell Studio riddled with viruses from the hub, and battery life of 1 min

-
if it was up to me, (and I had the money) i would be leapfrogging from one laptop to the other by selling the old one on ebay and getting a new one... unfortunately i dont have that type of money right now =\.
to be honest i could always game on desktop and it probably was beneficial i didn't have a laptop to game so i actually did schoolwork lol -
uhhh....

I wonder if theres any difference between the webcams...theyre the same price and looking at how HP listed the operating systems I wonder if its just an error (they list "windows 7" and then "genuine windows 7")
Also, whatre you guys doin for the hard drive? I was thinking of a 300GB SSD but ive had no experience with them...any suggestions? -
Looks tempting. Is the screen still the same ? Can you remove ODD and replace with a 2nd drive

This is insane with the hd display wth the coupon looking at £650, I believe the warrenty is worldwide also, just wondering how much it would be to ship it to the uk.

I was a click away from ordering but have decided to let others be first to bite. I got bitten badly on the first version with the awful screen display (no reds) and kept it for a weekend and shipped it back to HP. If this model has the same screen, I won't be interested. Could be fun to play with it for a week but it is a hassle to get it and then have to pack and ship back if it is a fail.
I use the 160 Gb SSD since I save nothing. Have the same in my Envy 14 and a 180 Gb in my desktop. That has always been plenty of storage and if I need extra it will go onto an external drive. Don't think I need the Wireless Display Support so just considered the default wireless. For me, an SSD is probably the single best thing I can do for an upgrade. Have used them for about three years and can't imagine ever using spinning drives again. Especially for mobile devices such as a laptop they are pretty indestructible and light-weight. If you can possibly afford one get it--you'll be fairly amazed.
Some of you good folks be quick to order up this puppy and let us know how the display looks--also the trackpad. Haven't cared for it on the Envy 14 or 15 to this point. This Envy could have gold-plated parts inside but if the display still sucks it is a no-go. -

Why is the 7690M default?
Why does 7750M come with VGA?
Totally smells of deception to the non-discerning average Joe! -
The descriptions in the "help me decide" are not clear or informative at all.
Also, for RAM, the 1333mhz cost more than the 1600mhz after the 8gb mark!
The two webcam listings and the multiple entries for the windows 7 are just two more things to add to the confusion.
Oh, and there isnt even a picture of the Envy! -
I think they're still trying to set it up properly for ordering. I can't even see the pictures of the "categories" and I used to be able to see them.
I do think we should wait a bit til they sort the page out. -
