    :( No change in design.

I have placed order on 3rd June for Samsung Series 7 17". I am not sure to wait for XPS for another month & it will come with same design but with Ivy & Kepler :(.

If Dell will make something good XPS, I will definitely buy that for some close one :)

Does anybody know when the 33% off coupon expires, and if a similar coupon will replace it? I am pretty set on this, but I feel safer buying when the issues with the product page are fixed.

its finally here and I can decide between the 15' and the 17'! Are they the same dimension (clearly not the screen size)?

They are certainly not the same dimensions. You can check the dimensions on the specs section of the hp website for both the Envy 15 and 17.

Well, I decided to pull the trigger tonight.

I went with the 16GB of RAM at the urging of my parents, who felt the the ~$80 saved by getting RAM separately was not worth me having to open up the laptop to replace it, and risk something going wrong.
I can't wait until I get it. I am completely with PaKii in hoping it ships early! :D

I just purchased the refresh with an i7-3720QM. The reasonable side of me tells me this will be enough, but side of me that reads this forum tells me to just get the i7-3820QM despite the cost difference. I believe the major difference is the extra 2MB in cache. Does anyone have some knowledge on noticeable performance differences? It would be mostly casual use but I plan to play some games (Diablo 3, Witcher 2) and I would use it for programming as well.

Also, has anyone heard of performance differences between the 7750m and 7850m. If it's significant I may cancel and go with the 17 despite the size.

Ah the stress of being a gadget-hound.

what web page are you ordering the Envy 15-32XX from?

    I can't find it on shopping.hp.com

The "High Performance" category of laptops only includes the dv6 and dv7 models.

The 7750m should be already more than enough to handle any recent game at 1080p. It's comparable to the 5870m, which used to be one of the fastest laptop graphics cards available. Hell, I can run most of them just fine with my old 5830m from three years ago.

The 7850m is even faster, of course, comparable to the 480m or the 6950m, but IMO it's overkill for most games. I suppose it depends on whether a somewhat less portable, larger form factor laptop like the 17" model works for your needs.

    Thanks!

I can open it with firefox, but there are no customization options at all.

With google chrome I can customize everything, but the little icon thumbnails for the customization options are not visible.

Anyhoo - why is the 1333 MHz RAM option more expensive than 1600MHz?

    =====
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    +$340.00

    16GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    +$460.00
    ======

EDIT: Arrgh no dual SSD option!

However, buying RAM on your own also costs money, and the 33% off coupon reduces the effective cost of the upgrade to around 226.67.

And seeing as my parents are the one's paying for it, if they want to make it a little more expensive, and reduce the effort I will have to put into the initial setup, I'm not going to argue. ;)

Ok which wireless antenna option is better?

    Intel 2x2 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN + Bluetooth(R)

    or

Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support

The second one is $10 more, but "2x2" sounds like it would be faster.

I think they both are 2x2, but the second adds exactly what it says it does, the ability to wirelessly connect to a screen instead of having to plug in a cable.

I didn't get it, as I imaging a wireless display will probably have a significant premium, and having to unplug an HDMI cable doesn't really seem like much of a hassle, when I would already have to unplug the power cord anyway...

And 2x2 is the number of antennas it has. It means it has 2 antennas for 2.4GHz and 2 for 5GHz, with a transfer speed of 150Mb/s per antenna in ideal conditions.

Wanting to get some expert tips. I ordered 4 days ago the ENVY 15 with a i7-2670 processor. Kinda disappointed to see the new one out today. I called HP to get my order cancelled and they will try their best to do so.

However I've had to go through 9 orders before they accepted it (I'm canadian but still shipping to US address -- Using a Kinek Point shipping).
    • Do you think it's worth the hassle to cancel my order for the i7-3610 processor? Overall I'd be paying about 50$ more.
    • Also, I'm getting to the US June 16th, but leaving the 25th. Based on your experience, is HP's ship dates reliable? I don't want to have it delayed to the point that I would have to leave without it.

    Thanks

10.25 means either the battery capacity is better or AMD Enduro + IB is battery saver.

if they said 7.5 and max useful battery life is lets say 4 hrs, then 10.25 hrs should be around 5.5 hrs. not bad improvement for stronger processors and stronger gfx

From the looks of things and my spec sheet of the previous generation, the battery is the same. So its the latter combination of AMD + IB

I have the same problem, I spec'd the 3720qm and I'm wondering why not just get the 3820qm although it is an extra $225 - while I have the cash, the performance boost doesn't seem worth it - but I still want it!

Has anyone removed the ODD to put in a second HDD on the Envy 15? I did so on my 14 and hope to do it to the 15 as well.

If I pick up the 32XX model, I will probably make the attempt.

Do you need a hardware RAID controller to configure two of them in Raid0, or does the mobo handle that?

Also, I already have a small drive caddy containing two 1.8" Intel SSDs in my envy 15-1100. This caddy should fit in a 2.5" enclosure, but would I be able to use it in the envy 15-3200 if I remove the existing primary drive?

Well, it looks like they fixed the ordering page. There is no longer an option to order the 7690, second gen i7, or the HP Truvision webcam. Also, all 1333mhz ram options are non-existent.

It also seems as though prices may have increased...not sure though...maybe its just the lack of options such as that for ram.

There is still the lack thereof the "Turbo Boost" for the processors though.

It also appears they removed the ability to order a recovery disk.

Prices seemed to have held for me. I re-ordered the same setup I bought yesterday and it came out to the same price (thankfully I chose stuff thats still available now). The only difference is I kept the HP HD camera and now the only option is the Skype one. I'll give them a call later to see what I do there.

    Can you elaborate on this?

You mean for some reason the Ivy Bridge quad cores in the Envy 15t are gimped so they can't make use of the turbo boost (3.7GHz instead of the non-turbo 2.7GHz)?

That would seem to be a horrible design decision.

No. Intel would be incredibly stupid to do this. He means that HP still hasn't included the turbo boost frequencies of the Ivy Bridge's in the customizing screen, so it's hard to tell what they will turbo boost up to.

If you check Intel's website, they can each turbo boost 1GHz above their base frequency.

    Compare Intel Processors

Note: I'm not sure if this will bring you directly to the page that displays for me showing the comparison of the three IVB processors on the Envy. However, it should get you to the page to select processors to compare.

Yes, aspernatio is correct. My comment was directed towards the lack of it in the description. The 3210 has "3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M Processor (2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz) " which may be misleading for those who are unaware that all have turbo boost technology.

I'm still very curious as to why they removed all 1333mhz and the option for recovery discs.
