I don't think the motherboard handles any raid configuration. Although I never really checked, I know the bios settings are pretty sparse.
I hope putting in the second HDD can be done, because I ordered the regular 750GB instead of a hybrid because I plan to make an SSD my main. Looking at the service manual it looks like it can be done in the same way, and hopefully even the same caddy.

I guess the only differences here are the graphics card: 7750m vs.650m (maybe the ENVY will list 7770m as an option?) dunno which is better, dv6t has a mSSD cache for faster boosting, but ENVY has a better battery and screen, maybe faster RAM at 1600Mhz? and the price difference is 109 isn't THAT much, so i'm pretty stuck here. what do you think? -
650m will be slightly faster, but frankly I'd go Envy just because of the better aesthetics/cooling. I've got an old dv7 from maybe 2 or 3 years back and the gpu has already burned up to nothing because of the crappy cooling system-- hoping the envy fixes this problem.
-
Anyone know what kind of SSD the 256GB is? I know in my old Envy15, the Intel drives they shipped with at the time were very good for the price. How does this one look?
-
Just pulled the trigger on this bad boy

I figured why pay more for ram, 6gb is plenty and I can just upgrade it myself later if it becomes bothersome. Same goes for the HDD, although after seeing someone mention a HDD caddy instead of the disk drive I might look into getting an SSD eventually
Going to be a nice present, I'm arriving in America on the 14th of June, coming from Australia so that will be a nice welcome gift from myself to myself
I'm hoping the i7 and 7750m will be as good as I'm hoping, fingers crossed -
I've been lurking this thread for a while and finally joined because I was so excited to see the new Envy15 release.
I pulled the trigger last night on my new Envy because the price was just too good to pass up with the 33% off coupon. I start grad school in the Fall and needed a new laptop to replace my 4+ year old dying HP.
My config:
• Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3720QM Processor (2.6 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
• 8GB 1600DDR3MHz System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 750G 7200 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive
• SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
• 720p HD video streaming webcam supports Skype
• Intel 2x2 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN + Bluetooth(R)
• 15.6-inch diagonal Radiance Full HD Infinity LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
• 1GB Radeon(TM) HD 7750M GDDR5 Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• Microsoft(R) Office Starter: reduced-functionality Word/Excel(R) only, No PowerPoint(R)/Outlook(R)
• 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery - Up to 10.25 hours of battery life +++
• FREE 2-year Norton Internet Security subscription (a $99 value). Pre-installed.
• Full-size Radiance backlit keyboard
• System Recovery DVD with Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 10 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 10
• 2 year limited warranty included
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
I also wanted to point out two things. First, the coupon code "nbg5247" for 33% is limited to the first 900 uses or June 13, whichever is first, so if you are on the fence I'd say order now while it is still valid and before more people realize the new Envy is out. Second, someone mentioned that starting June 4 anyone buying a Windows 7 eligible computer would be valid for a Windows 8 upgrade at $15, but the actual start date was June 2 and beyond according to Microsoft's FAQ about the upgrade promotion, so if you bought this yesterday, June 3, don't worry you are still within the eligible dates for an upgrade if you so choose in the future. -
the RAM on the dv6t is also 1600MHz
-
I found 16 gb of 1600 RAM (Corsair Vengeance) for $107 from NewEgg. HP charges ridiculous prices for RAM. It's so simple to upgrade yourself.
-
Is the HDD User replaceable? Will it void any warranty if I replace the HDD?
-
Yup its user replaceable and will NOT void your warranty. HOWEVER, if you improperly install the HD and it screws something up, then HP will NOT honor their warranty.
-
Well that just makes me feel even more better about my purchase
thanks for clearing that up. Also good the HDD can be changed.
I read somewhere the 7750M is on par with a 650M.....that seems way too good to be true... -
This seems rather hard to improperly install the HDD on this particular laptop, no?
Also, any word with what type of 256gb SSD this would ship with? Comes out to $262 for this upgrade (after 33% coupon). If it's even slightly above average brand/model, this seems to be worth it rather than getting one on your own from newegg? -
I think the 650m is just slightly faster.
-
My guess is that it will be shipping with an Intel branded 256gb SSD. I decided to purchase a Samsung 830 series 256GB SSD for 235$tx included. Performance is slightly better and it has really good reliability from the reviews I've been digging into.
-
wait what if we ordered the 1333 ram in hopes of upgrading to more and better later? do i still get 1600? :S
i configed mine the same except for the ram difference and its about $20 more... so i think its the ram differnce -
Yeah. I have the same question. I ordered the 1333 but now that isn't even available. But I tried reconfiguring everything like I had it yesterday and today's comes out a bit more expensive, not sure what RAM we'll be getting.
-
You can get a Crucial M4 256gb SSD for $200 shipped right now. Reliability and speed are very good. The Samsung 830 is slightly faster so you can decide to spend a little extra if you want, but in everyday use, it won't be noticeable.

Here is the link. Do you think this is worth saving $62 over the intel drive? -
I hate HP sales agents.
Me: I was looking at the HP ENVY 15t-3200 Notebook PC and had a couple questions. What brand and model is the 300GB (Solid State Drive Flash Module)? Also, I did not see an option to order a Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit recovery disk. This option was available with the previous editions of the Envy 15 series. Will this option become available or does the notebook ship with a disk?
HP: For your first question, I’m very sorry, but this is not information that HP discloses. We do ensure that HP uses product qualification and certification to ensure that our standards and customer expectations are met. All specifications are built to HP standards and conform to standards across the industry.
HP: Here at the HP Home & Home Office Store, our PCs are not actually shipped with recovery CDs due to the fact that the recovery and back-up files are pre-loaded on a separate area of the hard drive. Recovery CDs can be created by the customer by following through with a set of simple steps.
Me: Yes, but it was a option when selecting the components to order a recovery disk with the notebook purchase for $19.00. But, that option has seemed to disappear over the last day
HP: If you are interested in purchasing a Recovery CD, you may do so at 1.888.473.4757. -
Don't contact the sales dept... they're horrible. My Stock HDD that came with my Envy got corrupt a few days after I installed my SSD so i called HP and they sent me recovery disks (1day business day delivery and it was free of charge)
As for SSD i would try to not get it off of HP if you can, i mean if you purchase one yourself you have the luxury of choosing your brand and most likely its cheaper. Also most SSD manufacturers have pretty decent warranty (Crucial and Intel both have 5 years iirc) -
Yeah, but I don't know much about installing a SSD. I was very into computers five years ago, but, since then, things have changed. Plus, I've never upgraded a laptop so I wouldn't know where to start. I was always a desktop man.
-
I would have considered giving my money to HP, but it seems they didn't bother adressing the display issue even if they have acknowledged it. I don't understand how any global company operating in a competitive sector and aiming for the top can honestly think they can get away with such a farce in 2012
I do hope they get burnt badly for their carelessness.
-
Its very easy!
I mean take off battery cover.
Lift up the windows key paper thingy.
Remove the 4 screws holding it in place.
Lift up the HDD gently using the black tab given.
Remove the Sata cable from the HDD.
Un-mount the HDD from the HDD Caddy (remove the screws).
Mount the SSD into the bracket and screw it back together.
Attach the Sata cable.
Mount it back into place.
Screw the HDD Back into place.
Start the computer up and press ESC.
Then choose the option to boot from DVD and you should be good. -
There will always be deals even more with time passing as the tech ages- if it was Haswell with a jump of %50 performance-yah maybe jump on it.
-
LG is the sole producer of 15" 1080p IPS laptop scrrens. HP can't do anything about it unless they want to stop using IPS screens in the Envy 15 and dv6. That is the same reason why Sony's Vaio S15 has the orange/red issue, in both its sandy bridge and new ivy bridge models. They both can only get the screen from LG, who has obviously made no effort to fix the problem with the displays and release an updated version.
-
Ah man this is really depressing I really want to to get the envy 15 its an excellent detail with the 33% coupon but the red issue has not been resolved and if your spending over $1100-1200 on a laptop imo thats just too much to live with. Hopefully when has well comes out they will redesign it .
-
I've always wondered about purchasing a different 1080p RGB 95% Gamut Display and installing it... But are the connectors the same and so on?
-
Hey guys i have till tomorrow to return my Dv6, and was wondering if i should get this envy instead. My main issue was with the heat on the palm rest (internals good, maxed at 80 for cpu 75 gpu). ive heard both good and bad about the envy heat and was wondering what you guys say about it?
-
Depending on what you do, envy can get quite hot as well...
-
This is an issue for me too and I plan to return it if it ends up being horrendous. Otherwise I plan to use an external monitor for when I'm doing graphical work, otherwise I can live with "off-red" colors on a day-to-day if it isn't glaringly bad.
-
Man this is nerve racking. This laptop purchase will have to serve me for the next 4 years and the fact that HP is not resolving the color issue on the Envy 15 is worrisome.
It is an all around great laptop otherwise, but this just leaves me nervous. -
Gaming, that will probable cause the most heat, but cad work for school also.
-
So I ordered with the 160gb SSD that was available yesterday when the page was glitchy but isn't available today.... everything else still is available today. Any idea what they're gonna do? I just got off the phone with one of their representatives, and they said it would be fine and they would just ship it to me with the 160gb SSD... which is kind of an issue down the line for tech support/warranty. I sure as hell am not gonna submit a "cancellation request" and reorder again today...
-
How much was the 160gb SSD? You're probably better off doing the upgrade yourself. You can get at 256gb SSD for $200 right now. That's a lot cheaper than what HP would want for it.
-
Yeah I guess you're right. I'm less concerned about the actual storage space than I am about support/warranty issues, but I guess people swap out their hardrives all the time so it won't be an issue. Don't remember how much the 160gb SSD was. I don't use that much storage anyway, so I guess I'll just save the money.
-
Quick question. How long does your order take to move into another stage. Right now I'm stuck at : "Order being verified"
-
Not sure, but I jsut got a call from the Bill Me Later people to "verify" the order. Hopefully that means my status will change soon.
-
True, but I wanted an Envy15 and I need a laptop before school starts so waiting for better "future" deals isn't an option for me. I was just giving some info about the coupon code for those in this thread interested in purchasing the new Envy.
-
Just placed my order.

I just want to say that HP customer reps are horrid.
I was on the phone for nearly 2 hours today being transferred from one agent to another and having to listen to the on hold "music" for literally 15 minutes at a time. Each representative said something different and when I finally ended up ordering, they got my order wrong but still charged my card...
I called again and cancelled which took another round of waiting, being transferred, etc.
So frustrated. -
why not online ordering
?
-
I was trying to do the coupon code of 33% off with the free Xbox 360. One of the HP reps said this was possible and gave me a price that made sense. I pulled the trigger because it was a great deal.
Then when I got the order confirmation e-mail, there was a different price than the one I was quoted on the phone.
Sneaky HP. -
ahh well let us know if the xbox thing works ill try getting it too.. i could use the money i would get from selling it for a ssd
-
can't believe everyone is eating up these crappy screens.
-
Personally, my vision is lousy, so I went with the 1366x768 (I know, I know I'm the tiny minority on this here LOL, but my eyes need low res)
N -
lol they are still better than most screens out there besides the current fhd screen in xps and the 95% screen in sager. and still, the viewing angles are better in the envy. The color problem isnt that bad. I was looking at my friend's screen, its obvious but not that bad....
-
Sounds like my typical experience with HP. I can actually humm the "on hold" music now
.
-
anyone know if this is available in Canada yet?
-
i guess each to their own. the overall machine is great, just not the screen. the other burn i had with it was the super gloss they layer on top. Its the most reflective screen ive come across and made indoor use a pita.
Im cutting back to the sony-z now that it has quadcore. Not a perfect machine either but it has the essentials. -
i just got an email saying my envy just shipped! yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
anyone else?? ill write a review as soon as it gets here. im excited
