u can just do a minimal recovery install (possibel in dv6 idk if envy) or just clean install and get the programs/drivers u want from cd+online
-
My question is different. I just don't want to pay for thing I'm not going to use. During customization it's impossible to uncheck these options.
-
It costs nothing. Why would you not want them?
-
I don't think HP installs them for free and the real price of this software is ~$160. Also I use Linux that's why I don't want to spend money on unnecessary things.
-
It's complementary as far as I'm aware... just like the 24 month Norton subscription.
-
That's true. But anyway there is no way not to choose them while customizing a laptop.
-
Probably because it's complementary.
-
I find it hard to believe that they would be complimentary. HP probably has a contract with Adobe and whatnot to provide that software. They say it's free to us, but I'm sure HP has paid something for it and are passing along the costs to us somehow. As far as your question, no. There is no way to order it from HP without that software.
-
yeah i get what u guys are saying because the cost of those are prolly already factored in. but yeah like others asid no way to factor that out cause to us it shows "free"
----
still waiting to ship =\ -
HP buys a mass license for these products so they get a massive discount over buying individual copies. But yes, you do still pay for it in a way. Might as well make use of it if you can.
Mine hasn't shipped either. I'm still steaming over that Customer Service Rep. I should have asked for a manager after she told me "I have no further information for you at this time." -
lemme knwo if u get anywhere with the manager
-----
well atleast good thing about this is the first thing i get to see is the season premiere of falling skies on my new envys !
-
Any idea how one would find out what make/model of the SSD and RAM they received from HP once I get the laptop (Friday hopefully)?
Does it just have generically branded as HP on it and no longer have the original manufacturer information? -
Sorry for double-post but also fellas remember this:
Shanghai is 12 hours ahead of time (if on US East Coast), while Anchorage Alaska is 4 hours BEHIND relative to US East Coast.
In terms of shipping, this means you are actually "gaining" nearly a full day of time in the shipping process depending on where you are located. For example: Shanghai Fedex received my laptop at 11:40 PM SHANGHAI TIME on June 11th. It arrived in Alaska at 1PM ANCHORAGE TIME on June 12th. It only took 13 hours to go from being RECEIVED in Shanghai to being RECEIVED in Alaska and yet the total ACTUAL time elapsed for me was almost two days (ballparking).
Note that "In Transit" Locations do not update until the package is received and scanned in at each FedEx location. So between Shanghai and Alaska it will still say "Shanghai" even though your laptop is flying somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. -
uhhh u could prolly open it up and look at it or there are some programs that tell u
-
Device Manager would work for the SSD? You can look up the code for an HDD (eg ST93240421ASG is a Seagate Momentus 7200) though I've never had an SSD before so hopefully it lists it similarly.
Hands down SSD was a better choice than a 7200 RPM HDD? I don't think I will need more than 256 GB as I will perform regular housekeeping and delete old/unused files but I have heard that torrenting will end an SSD's life rather rapidly, is this true? -
I have a question, will the windows 7 disc come with the laptop? It used to be an optional addition during the 3xxx models... Did they just cut that out completely?
Was thinking they may just add it and add the cost without making it optional -
no clue but I would have recommended replacing ur hdd with an aftermarket ssd but if u got it through hp then w.e u dont gotta go through that hassle... but yeah ssd gives a great speed boost... idk about the torrenting thing. if its true then im screwed

In transit, but to where?
Sorry PaKii, but you will get yours too, I hope we are all pleasantly surprised by this laptop. -
I spoke with a sales rep regarding this when the page first went live. From what I was told (if you want to take HPs sales agents seriously) is that they no longer offer the disc when customizing a laptop. You have to order it separately over the phone.
-
Patience is a virtue ... I don't have.
-
Actually, it is free (trial). The chance is that Norton is contracted with HP to install it on the computers. The reason for this is that people purchase the units, and then use the software. If the software expires after the trial period, the customer may or may not purchase it. If the customer purchases it, then Norton makes money.
The trial is free to download on the website. The trial is installed on the computer because it is free. HP is giving you nothing other than a pre-loaded trial software you could get regardless.
However HP and Norton work out their contract around this, I am unsure. But I bet Norton actually pays HP to perform this task. -
Mine just left Alaska.

Now, seeing as at least one person with 2-day shipping had their laptop sitting in a depot in Alaska for most of today, there may just be chance of mine coming the same day as their's...
Or, Fedex could suddenly start caring about delivering stuff before the estimated date, and I'll get it on Thursday. Which will be completely fine. (which, in my recollection, only occurs for 2 day shipping. Why the hell could you not deliver something shipping from 30 miles away the next day? It just sat in the local Fedex depot for 24 hours! /rant)
It just means I won't be as pressured to get my impressions up sooner.
-
Uhh still in production. I ordered it on the very first day it was available. Expected to ship today but it hasn't.
-
Myself, Pakii, and several others also ordered on the first day it was available. It would seem that HP uses a batch system, so if there are any inaccuracies in one batch (like unsupported components, for instance) the entire batch is delayed. As a result almost everyone who ordered on the first day is having their laptops delayed, where as people who ordered later are not (because the order page was fixed by the time they ordered so they are in a batch with no inaccuracies). This is very frustrating, but hopefully HP will have the issue resolved soon.
-
Though, mine was ordered on the first day as well, long before the page was fixed, and mine is in Alaska (or in the air on its way elsewhere) now. Admittedly, I did order a couple of hours after PaKii posted abouted his, so I may have been over the border into the next batch.
-
That seems plausible. Good thing you ordered all supported components, otherwise you might have "corrupted" that next batch. At this point I'm just hoping they actually sort this out in a reasonable timeframe. Your guy's laptops shipped out two days ago, which means that they're already two days (or more, given that must of you guys ordered a few days after the page went live) behind schedule. I'm going to be really irritated if there's some ridiculous delay like an extra week or two. Hopefully our batch will ship by tomorrow...
-
hp effed us
I was hoping it would ship early (like it did for others) so I could have it by the end of the week (like others will recieve) guess not
-
What issues did you have with yours that they were willing to send you a new laptop? Also did you buy extra warranty?
-
if u just bought it how u getting it replaced????
-
Hmmm I can see why they would cut away the disc but then again if they money from charging for the why would they cut it:/ I doubt it'll be in the box when we get our 32xx...
Still sure hope the rep is wrong though and see it there
gotta make recover disc first thing I suppose.
-
Here's a good link for everyone: Drivers!
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=5259184&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4063
That might come in handy later on. God knows the ENVY has lots of crazy hardware functions that need drivers. -
I bought it on May 22nd - recieved it by the 30th - Then i started to notice both of my usb ports on the left side would randomly die aswell as some sound/video studdering when pretty much doing nothing
.. So I called hp with the intention of getting a full refund but the lady offered me the new refreshed model and I jumped on it.
No I didnt buy any extra warranty I was still in my 21 day return period -
wait are u talking about the 1xxx model or the 3xxx model? im thinking 3xxx cause i dont think they are selling the original envy 15 on the hp store for a while now
-
Sorry shouldve been more specific yes I am talking about the 15t-3000
-
oh alright but niceee when are u going to get it? (watch u get it b4 us
)
-
I still have to ship my old one out (which i will be doing tomorrow) so im not really sure yet the rep told me estimated ship date was june 2nd but it "depended on how fast i sent it in" so hopefully way sooner!
-
bought the new envy 15 last sat and having used the new envy 15 for a few days already, i gotta say i love it. read the hassle about the reds being orange on the screen but i personally don't see much difference or mind so much. sleek looks, sturdy build quality, gorgeous screen, blistering speeds, sweet sounding speakers...the new envy ticks all the boxes for what i want.
thumbs up and you'll love it whether your waiting for yours to ship or considering buying it -
wait u got the one with ivy+gcn?? benchmarks now! (please
)
-
yep ivy bridge i7-3610qm
8gb ram HD screen 7750
i'm from HK btw and it was released last weekend -
How much of a difference is the 1366 vs 1920?
-
Damn got yours already? Niceee, one of the first?
Haha Pakii you're really excited for it arnt yah?
@nave the 1366 is really not worth getting, if you're getting the envy, spend the extra 150$ and get the 1080p... quite a bit different.
Hard to make a reference bu itd be like buying a nice brand new car but it doesn't come with stereo or something if you don't go he >.< -
if u could please please please run some benchmarks with the 7750m i would be eternally grateful. (just a teeny tiny 3dmark11 please
) and if u have seen the previous envy 15 with the color problemed screen, would u say its the same one?
-

Ok ill call and upgrade its only +90 for me -
i ain't no comp wiz but i'll be glad to do it when i get home tonight...but you gotta teach me how.
yea i had previously wanted to get the previous-gen envy before holding out for the ivy one...this is just from memory but i do think the older screens the reds were off and orangie. For this one i compared it with my old dell and for all i can tell the reds are just a bit lighter...nevertheless this doesn't bother me but might ward off more demanding users -
Evilmonk: could you pretty please do a battery test on the laptop. Basically I'm looking for how long the battery would last while just surfing the web on integrated graphics card and like ok brightness or something.
Also, how does the new Envy handle heat when gaming? I'll probably only rlly play Assassin's Creed and Guild Wars 2 when it comes out, so these shouldn't be too demanding for the 7750 on 1080p
NOW AVAILABLE: ENVY 15-32XX Intel Ivy Bridge (AMD 7750M)
