No, not a silly question, because I didn't know to do that :)

But I just tried it, and no difference :(

    Another silly question.
You closed the program before editing the values?

Seriously the Envy 17 is not pragmatic for college use, if you live at a real campus and have to walk around with it everyday.
And if you plan to upgrade to ssd, the best way to go is just default hdd...

I spent a chunk of this morning trying to figure out why Afterburner wouldn't let me do anything w/ my clock speeds except decrease them, and after having given up, I find the answer HERE while I was looking for a completely different answer regarding the Ivy Bridge Envy 15 displays... :D

Thanks so much for this info!! This was exactly what I needed to push my clocks back to (and even above) what I had before the latest Catalyst update on my Envy 15.

did you do something to get that credit? or they just gave it to you?....

Does anyone know if 1600 MHz is supported for greater than 8 GB of RAM? The manual states:

Supports up to 16384-GB of system RAM @ 1333-MHz, supports up to 8192-GB of system RAM
    @ 1600-MHz

    Supports the following configurations:
    ● 16384-MB total system memory (8192 × 2 @ 1600- and 1333-MHz)
    ● 12288-MB total system memory (8192 + 4096 @ 1600- and 1333-MHz)
    ● 8192-MB total system memory (8192×1 @ 1600- and 1333-MHz)
    ● 8192-MB total system memory (4096×2 @ 1600- and 1333-MHz)
    ● 6144-MB total system memory (4096 + 2048 @ 1600-MHz)
    ● 4096-MB total system memory (4096×1 @ 1600- and 1333-MHz)

The information seems to contradict each other. Also is the $10 dollar WiFi upgrade for wireless display a different card or simply extra software?

Great question here. In all honesty, it wasn't a hard decision for me ot leave out. Any wireless display technology I have toyed with has been somewhat laggy/choppy. If this is hardware based, we can expect it to suck SOME battery, which is enough for me not to want it. I also don't have any WiDi capable devices and would need a $40+ device in order to run it.

This is what the Custom Shipment Delay Page says for me:
    Order Number: *****
    CE Number: *****
    Delay Reason: "Product Constraints"
    Current Build By Date: "6/18/12"
    Delay Shipment Status: "Open"
    Original Build By Date: "6/12/12"

Now what could product constraints be? Hmm... I wonder if it has anything to do with that 160gb SSD I ordered which isn't supported in the laptop. It would seem that the Customer Service Rep I talked to yesterday either lied to me or my laptop is shipping this morning, which I doubt it is, as my laptop still hasn't shipped despite its being "all packaged up and ready for FedEX."

i would say it would be slightly hotter cause its more powerful but the difference would be minimal cause they both 45w. the diff b/w the i5 and i7s is greater cause of different wattage 35 vs 45. even then its not that much difference

My Estimated shipping was tomorrow (6/15) and I just checked the tracking#, it says: Jun 14, 2012 7:48 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery.
I won't be home until evening. Will keep you posted on my observations. Can't wait to install 480 gb Sandisk Extreme SSD I got the other day.

Hey guys, here's another data point. I ordered 6/5, estimated shipping 6/14. It actually shipped June 11 and is on the FedEx vehicle for delivery right now...and I'm on the east coast. It looks like even the free shipping is ridiculously fast.

I got the HD screen, 8GB 1600 Mhz RAM, 3610QM, and 256GB SSD.

So you guys are receiving ivy bridge configured units before any models are even announced for germany and europe?

i will probably make do with the sandy equipped 3010eg, but would rather order it after a product announcement if it would mean a drop in price.

long time lurker, first time poster...

just wanted to let you know guys know my new Ivy Envy 15 just arrived this morning (live in NJ), ordered on June 4th with the following specs below with the 33% off coupon, not sure if this is helpful with you guys determining your build/shipping batch or not, I originally had a 6/15 shipment date (free shipping), but looks like it came a day early (kinda surprised by it actually):

    Envy15
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • 3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM Processor (2.3 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
    • 1GB Radeon(TM) HD 7750M GDDR5 Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • 8GB 1600DDR3MHz System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 750GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
    • Microsoft(R) Office Starter: reduced-functionality Word/Excel(R) only, No PowerPoint(R)/Outlook(R)
    • FREE 2-year Norton Internet Security subscription (a $99 value). Pre-installed.
    • 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery - Up to 10.25 hours of battery life +++
    • 15.6-inch diagonal Radiance Full HD Infinity LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
    • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • 720p HD video streaming webcam supports Skype
    • Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
    • Full-size Radiance backlit keyboard
    • Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 10 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 10
    • 2 year limited warranty included
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

my girl signed for the package so I won't be able to get my hands on it until i get home from work later this evening, and i have to stay a few hours late today too (damn it).

once i un-box it i'll try to put together a general overview and address some of the concerns some of you have as far as my build is concerned (heat, red/orange issue still prevalent?, and general build quality).

Gave HP another call. Told the CSO my order # and asked if he could check on the status of the order. After being put on hold for about five minutes, he came back and told me that he could see the same delay notice that I saw, but that he would talk to a specialist about what was going on with the laptop and give me a call back by 4pm today with more information. Hopefully this will shed some light as to what's going on with the orders placed on the first day.

    Mine just arrived!!!
Everything seems in order, with the exception of a tiny bend in the metal beneath one of the USB ports. The port is unaffected, and it is barely noticeable unless you are looking for it or running your hand along the side, so I'll leave it.

Now I just need to go through all the optimization and get rid of the bloatware!

Also, on the Red/Orange issue. I just looked at cnn.com, and honestly, if I wasn't looking for the color issue, I wouldn't have noticed. But then again, I also probably don't have the best monitor for my desktop, and I have no idea what its gamut is, so I may simply be used to imperfect color replication.

I am running the envy 15 30xx with the ATI 7690M card overclocked for past 4 months stable at 750/950

    my 3dmark11 scores are 1650 and 3dmark06 11500

looks like the new card is between 10%-20% quicker than overclocked older card
