umm im sorry to say but the 33% off coupon expired. I would recommend when it comes around again, 30-33% usually comes every month- 1.5 months

I'm a last-gen (Sandy Bridge) Envy 15 owner, and just curious if the reports here about HP using a different panel are true. Anyone that has received theirs, you can check the panel ID in the Device Manager (right-click "Computer," choose "Properties," and select "Device Manager"). In the Device Manager, find "Monitors," and under that "Generic PnP Monitor" (at least on my computer that's what it's called). Right-click that, select "Properties," and then in the "Details" tab, select "Hardware ID" as the property to inspect. The previous-gen Envy 15 uses an LGD0323 display.

Do all the new ENVY 15 have the windows 7 and intel sticker on them now, the unboxings of the old ones I saw didn't have them, how hard are they to remove?
Not really a big deal but just kinda annoys me -
-
-
I was one of the people who reported it pretty much fixed, as in only noticeable if you are looking for it and have a very recent comparison.
It's different! I guess HP did get their act together!
EDIT: Oops, sorry for the double post. I probably should have just multiquoted stuff as I went through the several pages of unread posts. -
Hmm I dont see a way to set it to "Fixed Graphics" in the bios in the new ENVY 15... Is there a way to set it so that when you're on battery, use the integrated gfx and when you're plugged in, use the discrete?
-
Can anyone with the new envy comment on its battery life? I am assuming that with ivy bridge it is higher than before but seriously doubt it is 10.25 hours as hp claims even with wireless functionality turned off
-
So we can pretty much confirm that the screen's been fixed then ? That's great news ! Now can we get a release outside the US
?
-
coul somebody please run EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | Monitor Asset Manager and post the results here, I want to know what screen is in there.
-
LONG time lurker here. I was lucky and received mine yesterday. I don't do video, so here's my quick review...
- Overall it's a 9 out of 10.
- The outer box was soaking wet on the bottom and had a large crush mark on the side. I panicked a little, but the inner packaging protected everything nicely.
- I was startled by how glossy the screen was. I've only owned matte displays, so it will take some getting used to.
- The screen is also very flexible. It distorts quite a bit with just a light touch. In fact, it is permanently distorted a little bit around the webcam (very slight fishbowl effect that you can only notice when using the screen like a mirror). Very delicate. Perhaps this is normal, but it's not like my Elitebook 8540w or my old nx9420 business machines.
- The screen is gorgeous. I'm typing this in on my 1920x1080 EliteBook and the Envy display (out of the box) blows it away. Text looks much crisper/clearer. Reds look OK to me. I'll be doing a Spyder calibration at some point.
- No build issues. All joints are tight and even. Nothing rattles or wiggles. No dents or scratches.
- Runs very quiet and cool.
- I got the 256GB SSD. Boot time is awesome as expected.
- Sound quality is much better than expected. I got an Envy 14 last year and sent it back due to many reasons, one of which was the pathetic "Beats Audio" sound. This Envy actually sounds very good. Haven't tried headphones yet.
- It doesn't prompt you to burn recovery disks. I did it manually and then did a minimal recovery. I'm loading updates now.
Thanks to everyone for making this forum awesome. I hope all the "delayed" people get theirs soon. -

If it is a 2011 manufacture date, makes me wonder if this is just a part number change.

Just ordered mine. Been lurking the past few days after discovering the E15 update. Threatened one a few months ago but wasn't sold on the graphics card and knew the 3rd gen i7 was coming. Will be a decent upgrade for my 2 yr old E14 that is finding a home with the girlfriend.
I jumped on the 450 off coupon (technically 200 of course). Wish I had known in time to get the 33% off deal but ah well
As always, much thanks to the people that keeps everyone else and myself updated when their machines arrive. Cheers to ya.
Here's my config:

I don't mean to rain on your parade, from what I have heard and seen they are great machines... now we just need HP to actually send them to us... -
Could someone that has the first Envy 15 refresh run this as well?
looking forward to your calibration test as i won't have access to a reliable monitor to compare it for a while.

hey guys, after a long day's of work yesterday i finally had some time to sit down and play around with my new Envy 15!!
Here a few quick bullet points with my initial observations:
-Super solid/premium feeling build, aside from one miniscule little nick on the side of the body near the headphone jack (almost completely unnoticeable btw) it's essentially pretty much perfect build quality. no dented USB ports or anything like previously reported in some of the earlier Envy refreshes.
-The screen, what a beauty, amazing viewing angles, clean crisp screen, and I am happy to report that REDS are RED! I compared it to my Dell laptop and the REDS not only did not look orange at all, it actually looked richer and brighter in comparison, very happy about this since it was the primary reason I avoided the original Envy refresh, glad HP came around and fixed this. I haven't checked the "blues" on Facebook yet, but I will when I get home from work today. The only thing I need to get used to is the glossy screen since all my other previous laptops have been matte, but so far I haven't had any issues, it really looks great actually and probably adds to the quality of the display.
-Keyboard, very happy to report NO keyboard flex in my build, no loose feeling, or clacky keys, or any missed keystrokes thus far. very solid feel to the keyboard, but still comfortable to type with. personally it took a little bit of getting used to the chiclet style of the keys (first time with a chiclet keyboard), but even by the end of the night I already pretty much fine with it. The backlighting is very nice, clean and crisp, and unlike the DV6/7 whose backlight leaks light on the keyboard like crazy, this does not leak light and it gives it a very overall clean and classy MBP look as far as the backlighting is concerned. I have the intensity set on "Medium" but you can change it to low, high, or off. High just seems a bit too bright and distracting however. as of right now I still do have the proximity sensor active, and I kind of like it, we'll see if it bugs me down the line, but if so its super easy to turn off if you want to, just right in the Control Panel.
-Touch pad, only played with it slightly since I usually always use an external mouse with my laptops, but from my initial experience it wasn't all that bad, pretty responsive and actually a lot better than my Dell Latitude touch pad. the left click button was a little bit tougher to click than the right, but I have a really good feeling that this loosens up over time, so shouldn't be a big deal.
-Temp/Fan - I do plan on installing Diablo 3 later tonight and finally get some gaming done on this so I'll have further remarks on this as that is concerned later on. But I gotta say, thing runs pretty cool & quiet with just installing programs, web browsing, youtube, itunes, etc..I have Core Temp running as a gadget at all times and never saw temps over pop over 113F at all using it yesterday, and on idle was averaging right around 98F-107F. so it looks to be quite cool and stable temp wise thus far, gaming on the other hand we'll have to wait and see but I'm pretty confident it will be fine. I do have CoolSense ON, under the Control Panel options all it lets you do it turn CoolSense on and off, no other options, kinda lame but whatever.
-Didn't bother with the minimal restore, there actually wasn't all that much bloatware that I expected believe it or not (I guess varies on personal preference to some degree), just ran PC Decrapifier and got rid a few things here and there.
-Performance, this thing is FAST, very snappy, very quick, even with the 750GB 7200 HD it still boots quite fast to my surprise, I was going to switch out for a SSD down the line once prices came down a bit, but I am not even sure it's totally necessary for my needs at this point, we'll see. definitely the fastest computer I've ever owned, all programs open in a jiffy (FireFox, iTunes, IE). Cant' wait to get Diablo 3 installed on here, that will be the real test for me in performance as far as FPS goes.
The one thing I didn't get to really test all that much was speaker sound quality, and headphones. I left all my 15,000+ mp3's transferring from my external HD overnight and haven't had a chance to play any of them yet, but I'll report back on that later.
Not sure if I missed anything else, but overall a VERY happy camper here. super glad the RED issue seems fixed. I must say after reading these forums I was dreading getting a bad quality build and having to deal with HP customer service with exchanges/returns etc, so I feel very lucky right now.
I'll keep you all posted with further follow-ups later on. -
Quick question: Anyone still have the issue where it says "Customize your Envy 15t-3000 series" even though you clicked the customize button from the 15t-3200 link?

Envy 15 32XX Impresions
Build Quality: 5/5
The laptop is solid. Materials feel sturdy with no flex or creaks. I had misgivings about the black front instead of the typical laser-etched pattern because of finger prints but there's a slight texture to it that should help it fend off oil. I do have a tiny bit of keyboard flex, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'm pretty sure all laptop keyboards will give if you put pressure on them. While in use there is no flex whatsoever. I believe I'm one of the lucky ones as my unit has no dented USB ports and looks to be immaculate all around.
update: I ended up noticing that the metal around the volume knob, where it indents into the circle, is not completely flush. Not a big deal, but worth reporting.
Display: 4/5
First off I'm comparing this to a first-gen Envy 14 with Radiance which could be overly vibrant. Reds do look red. Overall I feel there's a slight yellow hue and I've noticed that blues look a bit off (pastel-ish) but this might only be in comparison the the Radiance display. Text is sharp and crisp - definitely a must have upgrade. If you're coming from a Radiance it's also worth noting that the Radiance is MUCH brighter. When I get a good source to compare it to I'll update this section.
From another thread Byuunbi managed to find the part number for the previous panel: LP156WF4 (SL)(B2) and received a response from an HP engineer that they have been receiving new panels that correct the color issue: LP156WF SL-B6. There's the possibility that the 32XX models have shipped with the new panels but no way to check the part number without dismantling the laptop. Checking Device Manager for the hardware ID the panel is LGD037E on the 32XX and LGD0323 on the 30XX.
update: I've started a thread & poll to talk about the new screen. Unfortunately my camera is out on loan and I can't get any good photos up for people. Another member of the forum is having his Sandy Bridge Envy screen replaced by HP - most likely to the Ivy Bridge screen so it'll be interesting to see his results.
Graphics & Gaming: 4/5
I'll be testing this more with different games when I get the chance.
Diablo 3: with all settings on max nets me ~45fps and drops to ~25-30fps on large fights. I'm a bit disappointed as I was hoping to get a solid 50-60fps at max. I've since elected to turn off anti-aliasing and set shadow details and clutter to medium. Now I'm getting ~50-60fps and ~40-45fps on intense scenes.
The Witcher 2: this game is a monster to run, but looks gorgeous. It takes a lot more to run it than Crysis or Skyrim. I wanted to be able to play it at 1080p, which is possible if you turn down other settings and dont' mind 20fps. The game is playable at 1600x900, but I'd recommend going down to 1280x720. Resource heavy settings like ubersampling and SSAO have to be turned off and you'll want to turn down others like shadow and light detail. With these settings the game still looks good and is playable at a pretty consistent 30fps.
Keyboard: 4/5
As far as laptops goes this is one of the most pleasant keybaords I've used. Keys have a good amount of bounce and travel and the backlighting is sharp and bright. The only keyboard I've used that bests it are the Lenovo T series and the MacBook.
update: I discovered thet the backlight levels can be adjusted by holding the backlight key and the arrow keys. There are 3 levels and I currently have it set on low. The default is max and for my use there's no need for the keyboard to be that bright.
Trackpad: 3/5
Average. Not as bad as some have reported, but it's still far from the best. The buttons are stiff and I've suffered the occasional cursor jump. If you're coming from a shoddy laptop trackpad I'd say it's an improvement from what they've made in the past but not by much.
update: after using it for a week I've begun to like it more. The material is still rough and your finger doesn't glide which is probably my biggest complaint, but once its familiar it doesn't become as bothersome.
Sound: 5/5
Other than the Dell models that ship with the JBL 6 speaker setups this is the best I've heard. It can get quite loud and be heard all over an apartment clearly. The Beats audio dial is pleasant, although a little loose for my liking.
Battery: 3.5/5 - still testing
For the initial run I got abount 3 hours 38 min of constant use e.g. web browsing, installing software, playing Hulu. I'm impressed with it especially since my Envy 14 dies out around 2, but it's nowhere near the 10.5 hour mark on the spec sheet - maybe if you're just word processing. I'll update this section as the laptop gets more usage in heavy and light scenarios.
update: I haven't been recording the results but after about 2-3 drains the battery life seems to be around 4 hours depending on your usage. I typically have music or a video going on.
Temperature: 4/5
Runs cool at ~40-45c and tops out at ~80c running Diablo 3. Considering my Envy 14 runs at ~60c to 90c I'm quite happy. The fans are a relatively quiet white noise. You'll hear them but they aren't bothersome. -
Hopefully my order will ship before the next Intel chips are out... -
Ended up getting my two day shipping refunded for the delay. That's all I really cared about. I most likely won't do any more business with HP after this fiasco. It's really sad seeming how this is a premium line purchase.

Does the 32xx come with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements? If so, which version? I think 10 is the current version out, but the 3xxx models came with version 9. -
Hey when did you guys receive the delay notice?
I finally called them and i was acting quuite pissed but they say mine is not in the delay list so i should wait within 24hrs for the tracking number... i'm pissed.. mine was suppose to ship yesterday.
If i do find out mine is also delayed and that rep was an idiot im gonna call and give em hell... -

Hi. New to the forum. I too ordered mine on 6/5 with the 33% off coupon and 2-day shipping and it was supposed it to ship yesterday the 14th. According to HPs site my order still reads "Order in production, Estimated to ship on June 14, 2012." I haven't received any emails telling me of a delay. My build is very typical compared to everyone else so I guess I'll play the waiting game or give HP a call.

-
Mine is supposed to ship today, the 15th too. Still haven't heard word of a delay or a ship. To those who have it already or have it shipped: What time of the day did they send you the email saying it was shipped?
-
I ordered on June 5th :/ 6/5... was supposed to ship yesterday

btw I regret not upgrading to a better ram... will 6gb be bad? really worth the upgrade right? is it hard to do manually? I will plan to use it to do not only intense gaming but video coding and other demanding things...
plan to upgrade to ssd later on so i got basic hdd... -
-
-
EDIT: Just checked their website, you can customize also... Damn. -

-
Yeah I feel stupid -_- thought 8gb was lowest standard or something and didn't check? I don't what I was doing. Oh well... I've installed ram before on a different laptop... Not necessary envy but I'm sure it shouldn't be a big hassle to do... 6gb is sufficient for now I suppose.
Still no update or email on my laptop -
