Really the gpu benchmarks made it seem so much different. Still anyone knoww if changing or making custom rez for the radeon gpu is possible? I know my dv6 didn't have any other 16:9 rezs by default, but you could make a custom one with the Intel control panel, and it would transfer to the Nvidia one.
-
i dunno why its not letting me search this thread but i remember stock clock to stock clock, the 7750m was right under the 650m (but thats with the 650m turbo boosted) and the 7850m was right under the 660m (again with turbo). However, we havent had any OC results for the 7750m i think but it should be easy to get 660m+ levels. the 7850m is right under the 670m when oced (3dmark11 anyway... gaming performance should be about the same if not better considering the new tech favors directx11 games)
-
Well thats good news, Although i dont plan on overclocking. I know how and have done it with both of my desktops, but i dont think i wanna do it on a laptop. Idk maybe ill change that.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
If by "custom" resolution you mean non-native resolution, of course it is. The majority of games are limited to certain resolutions that you can select in the graphics options, and those include multiple aspect ratios and overall screen sizes. Note that many people find playing at non-native resolution to be the single worst settings tweak for image quality in games, though, so you might consider changing other settings before dropping the resolution. -
Haven't heard anyhting since the delay, althought mine did get delayed til the 26th...

Taking quite a long time to leave China. Last activity was:

SHANGHAI CNPackage received after FedEx cutoff -
My order status page now shows that it has shipped. It gives me a tracking # but it is not in Fed Ex's system yet. I ordered late in the day on the 6th.
BTW... I had an estimated ship date of the 15th. -
Mine says the exact same thing. I guess our laptops have been sitting in Shanghai all weekend.
-
Jesus, it's just one thing after another with this. Let's get the thing moving already!

Finally.....it's shipped. Took you long enough HP.
-
When's yours supposed to arrive? Mine is supposed to be here on the 21st by 4:30. I live in New Orleans though, which is pretty far from Alaska. If my laptop isn't in Alaska today I'll be very disappointed.
-
I'm over in Maryland, so I'm not sure how long it'll take to get from Alaska to here. Hopefully it'll arrive early-- I got the same estimated delivery as you. Do they work on Sundays? If not then I guess that explains why it's taking so long.
-
Yea I know how you feel, I ordered mine on 6/11 and it won't ship until 6/27. My DV4T CTO didn't take this long to build/ship. Why such long build times?
-
I ordered the day the refresh was posted which was 6/3 and it finally shipped today, but it was supposed to ship on 6/12. HP probably couldn't handle the large demand. The envy customization portion on the HP site has gone down a couple of times. Not to mention they're still trying to fulfill orders before yours. I wouldn't be surprised if it shipped a little earlier than 6/27 though.
-
I was under the impression that FedEx worked 24/7. They just don't deliver on Saturday or Sunday. But who knows, it is also China we're speaking about. Customs problems and whatnot.
-
I called an HP rep Saturday to ask about my laptop, and she apologized for the shipping confusion. She said that HP has gotten way more demand than they ever expected. Even more demand than the 3XXX series got. I think it just overwhelmed them.
-
I cannot believe I messed this up:
As mentioned earlier, I was planning to swap my hard-drive with SSD and in the process, was little confused and decided to try it later.
There are 6 screws on the back panel that need to be removed. Not a problem first time, trying to take it out and put them back in. Second time, when I wanted to install SSD, one screw would not un-screw at all. I followed the same procedure, used the same micro philips scew-driver but it would not unscrew. In the process, the screw is stripped and there are no threads but only a small hole which further complicated the matter.
I have tried new screw drivers, glue and rubber-band technique but nothing works. I definitely don't want to return this laptop. Thinking on calling HP technical support and let them know about the stripped screw (obviously I won't tell them the whole story other than that I was planning on swapping my hard drive with SSD and cannot get one screw out). They may ask me to send it to the repair center so that they can get that screw out and put a new one.
Just thought I would vent my frustation here (after trying for 3 days).
Folks, be careful, take it slow and use the correct screw driver. -
Ordered 6/3 too and got delayed til the 26th... Pretty sure I'm the one with the worst delay (for now at least) on this forum...
-
Jeez, it still hasn't left Shanghaii. Does two day shipping still take five days? The rep told me they would upgrade me when my laptop shipped since it got delayed, but I'm not really sure if that's the case. Either way it's this will be the 3rd day it's been sitting over there, so hopefully they'll ship it out sometime soon...
-
Hopefully. This is rather annoying. I suppose two-day shipping does take five days. That seems a bit misleading. Also, it's interesting that we have different shipping options (I got the normal shipping) yet our laptops will probably arrive at the same time. And yeah, hopefully it will leave soon.
-
Just got the an e-mail saying my laptop is ready to be shipped!
-
One of the reps I talked to told me that he would ask for 2 day shipping but when I asked him who he would ask and if that meant that I would get 2 day shipping he basically blew off the question. And sure enough my e-mail says my chosen method of shipping is the normal 5-7 days. I am just glad they are not delaying me again...
-
Well, no, see I didn't pay for two-day, although the HP rep I talked with told me that they upgrade all their delayed laptops to two day shipping. Hopefully that means we both got upgraded and this is just the time it takes. Or it means that the rep lied and they don't upgrade anyone. Either way FedEX needs to get their arses in gear and get the packages on a bloody plane to America-- I'm down to using my ipad for work and everything since my old laptop is no longer functional.
EDIT: Alright then, so I guess the rep did lie. Standard shipping it is then. -
how stripped is it? glue won't work unless it's an extremely strong bond, which probably isn't a good idea next to the chassis. one method i've used before is to take a flathead screwdriver, fit it in one of the notches and carefully hammer it down to create a grip/groove. once it's snug you can twist. if you decide to try it remember to use moderate strength and be reasonable!
-
I've done this (not on a computer) but on stripped screws before.
-
Its very small hole now, essentially no thread at all. I am afraid if I apply any more pressure to create a groove, it would damage the laptop.
-
yayyyyyyyy mine shipped!~~~~~
it says my shipping method is 5-7 days so ya reps lied about shipping but like the guy said abouve, im just happy it shipped. Estimated delivery Jun 22, 2012 by 4:30 PM
and last activityI think we are all gonna be on the same plane. Now its a race to c who gets it first
-
Congrats you lucky SOB!!
I think I'm the only early order still outstanding...
At least I hope it means they're taking extra care with it, like polishing it with microfiber cloths and the like... (one can dream!!)... -
ima guess u got one of the ssds? Sorry to hear that man I thought everyone was taken care of by now
-
Naw, got the 750GB Hybrid (though some of those have shipped too). Not really sure why mine got delayed, since I've seen the parts I ordered on other laptops that have shipped.
I am curious as to what happened with yours with the whole 1600vs1333 RAM issue, and other older parts you ordered. Let us know what you ended up getting.
And I'm used to stuff I order being later (always happens, just my luck) -
Mine shipped too...
D finally... :/
The supervisor told me upgrade to 2day shipping is impossible because she'd have to change the order and that can't be done. I think she may be right an you guys were lied to :/...
Patiently awaits from China to Ohio... -
congrats! still waiting on mine
-
I ordered on 6/4 and my delay e-mail said ship wouldn't be until 6/26. when did you order?
-
I got the 750gb hybrid drive too...maybe that is the reason both of ours are still not shipped?
-
I ordered on 6/3 and mines shipping on 6/26... I think I have it the worst out of anyone here haha.
-
yeah, it's total BS that we were some of the first orders and order placed after ours have already been shipped! the wait better be worth it!
-
ssd should not be the issue since I chose the 300G ssd and mine didn't get delayed.
-
I think it has something to do with the 1333mhz ram and the 750gb hybrid hard drive that I ordered... Still it's not very fair how I have to wait at least a month to get my laptop. HP is ridiculous. Not going to order from them again. They're lucky the Envy is such an appealing laptop.
-
it might be the hybrid drive that they are out of then... as soon as i get mine this is my agenda:
1) check for cosmetic flaws/build qc issues
2) go through initial setup
3) verify all ports/dvd are working
4) check up on the memory issue and lcd panel (check the orangegate situation)
5) Clean install windows + drivers etc.
6) Benchmarks
7) OC and then more benchmarks
8) enjoy my laptop
-
Interested to see how everyone's LCD turns out now that they're shipping en masse. Also interested to see how your overclocking goes. I downloaded Afterburner but didn't bother to learn how to set it up - I figured I would let the hardware burn-in a bit before I tried to o/c.
-
make backup disc before you clean install windows
haha same plan here
don't think i'll OC yet though.... will when the time is necessary
-
yeah ill keep u guys updated. I just alittle unsure about the clean install. I could prolly go back but there is too many posts in this thread. if there a minimal system recovery that the dv6ts have? What bloatware does the envy come with? I remember my hp desktop came with so much crap it took me a couple days to get rid of i tall
yeah i got the disks sitting on my desk collecting dust for my envy
. How are gaming benchmarks? If I can play my games fluidly enough I won't keep it OC'ed. I just wanna c how far I can push it
-
I doubt it is the hybrid hard drive, as mine wasn't delayed. It's probably just the 1333MHz RAM.
And what program do you plan on using for overclocking? Unfortunately the only one I know of, Afterburner, (Though I am sure there are a lot of overclock utilities I do not know about) has the max clock of the 7750m at the same level as its max clock, effectively only allowing you to uncerclock. -
HPs website does note that there is an additional 1 business day delay for hybrid drives.
-
im going to try sapphire trixx. thats what i use on my desktop. And I think its a mix of parts that are delaying the envys. somepeople in the 17 in thread are saying they only upgraded hybrid drive and they are delayed some ram etc. in my case it was the ram. Let's c how HP solved that issue.
trixx OC'ed my desktop card from 850/1200 to 1015/1300 and its pretty stable. I think after a couple dozen hours of gaming and benchmarks crysis 2 crashed once. -
Oh, I'm a 6/3 too. Guess we're the last 6/3-ers.
And I have the 1600Mhz RAM along with the hybrid, but other people here have had their hybrids shipped as well as the RAM. Just bad luck... -
soo unboxing video? or is that overly done
. I will take a screen comparision pic but anything else u guys wanna request (who are still waiting)
-
I request some drop tests
-
Will it blend?
