Please do a video review and also include pictures. A lot of people seem to be receiving them, but there are only text reviews.

Thanks guys! Ill do videos in a bit I just finished setup. I don't have much time right now i got somewhere to be in an hr so ima just make the recovery disks... i might have to do minimal install... there is so much stuff installed already haha. This is what I have for u guys so far:

The build quality is really good there are like 3 very very tiny nicks on the top not noticeable straight on but if u put it in under the glare and u look near level with it 10 degrees angle, then u can see them. even then they look like dust specs. as for the body as someone said b4, the bottom panel juts out ever so slightly (1/16 of an in I would say) so that its not flush. u can see it but its not overly noticible. THere is another little nick next to the usb but it also looks like a dust spec at first glance.

As far as keyboards go I like it. It seems to pick up all the keys. Its my first chicklet keyboard so its gonna take me alittle while to get used to it. as for flex. there is some around the wasd keys. I will post the video of it but to be honest. I could care less haha.

Screen is gourgeous. THere was some dust on it but I think i got rid of it. when i turn off screen/laptop ill inspect it more then. The reds are definately reds. As for blues, some of the blues look a bit washed out but alot seem like regular blues. Greens do seem a bit washed out.. lemme c if i can fix that.

Touchpad is better than I have on my crappy toshiba (obviously) but not like a macbook pro trackpad. I think thats cause tehre is no glass on the trackpad :p. The speakers are definately full and clear. I blasted some rap and dubstep haha. The bass is a little bit dissappointing but then again its a laptop.

back to the glass on the screen. There is alittle warp in the reflections on the corners of the glass. The screen isnt affected but idk. Ill keep u guys
updated as i go. Going to make recovery disks now and run some qucik benchmarks

Videos will come in a bit

running 3dmark11 now. As for the heat. This is my 2nd time running it within 10 mins. the speaker bar gets warm and the right side has gotten alittle warm. Not like handwarmer warm more like not cold metal. The palmrest+ keyboard remain cool.

im sorry to hear that man =\ Well if u do decide u gotta return it, then use it for that 21 days :p.

a question to others. How do i go about this minimal install  I don't want all this hp crap on here haha. Im burning the recovery disks now.
I dont need a 5 page guide, just a quick lsit so i dont forget anything. I just dunno where to start.

ALso update on my review so far:
    - the trackpad buttons are annoying as f***. they hard to press so i gotta use my other hand :|. also if i hover with my other hand it spazzes haha. I guess ill have to tweak those settings. and since its not covered in glas my fingers dont really glide on it.

    - as far as general observations... when i cold turn on/ sleep turn on laptop the dvd drive makes noise as the laptop resumes... idk if this is normal or not anyone else have this happen?
-So far the laptop remains cool. The fan are constantly running on idle but the slightest background noise drowns them out. for example, the dvd drive burning my recovery disk right now is drowning them out. but something as little as the wind coming through my open window was enough. When I was running the benchmark, it did speed up but not like jet engine fast. It did remain on for a few mins after that but then it stopped. while the disks are burning lemme try dling OC tools just for the heck of it.

    - The backlighting is really nice. Even in full lighting I can clearly see the backlighting. I havent had the chance to try it in a dark room yet but I dont think i will see much bleeding.

    - I watched some movie trailers and the audio is very very nice. The bass like I said b4 is lacking but then again which laptop doesnt. The only superior one I have heard so far (for the bass anyway) is the current dell xps 15. but then again its a big fat tank with less performance haha

-THe screen is amazing!!! I love it. much better than almost all that I have encountered. Text and everything is crisp. THe colors really pop. Even if it does have the fading blue/green thing, I cant tell. The red/orange thing is definately gone because I have seen it on my friends envy and the reds are definately there in mine.

    - Only slight problem I have with the keyboard is the spacebar. Idk why but it doesnt seem to go down as much as the other keys. Its working fine when I type but yeah.. eh

Just hit F11 at boot and it should take you to recovery. Should be a step by step at that point. I'd suggest backing up the swsetup folder first which contains drivers as I don't remember if this is restored.

Mine did this, the felt/foam piece at the bottom of the drive was not glued properly and was blocking the disk from coming out. I tried to glue it down and it ended up looking like crap so I returned it. New one should be here in a few weeks :(

yeha i think the foam was blocking it... i pushed it down and what not. It doesnt seem to be "unglued" it just seems like its too thick haha. but with me pushing it down, i think it created enough space for the disk to pop out

I posted this on the Envy 17 thread, but I'll repost it here just to get more feedback from everyone here. Help!

    Original Post:

So I received my Envy 17 Ivy Bridge today just like everyone else. Build quality in this unit is perfect all way round. However, the biggest problem with it is the screen. I compared the screen with my Envy 15 Sandy Bridge, and noticed that the color reproduction is way off. I'm aware that the Envy 15 SB has the red/orange issue, but aside from that, everything else on the Envy 17 IB looks more blueish/violetish. Not sure if those of you who received the latest Envy 17 have this issue, but here are some pictures of the default desktop wallpaper to compare:

    Envy 15 SB
    [IMG]

    Envy 17 IB
    [IMG]

Left: Envy 17 IB; Right: Envy 15 SB
    [IMG]

Personally, I feel that the Envy 15 has better and more accurate color reproduction than the Envy 17 that I received (other than the red/orange issue). Should I call HP for a replacement unit for my Envy 17, or is it the same across all Envy 17s?

you need to calibrate the envy 17 screen.
it's a tn panel so even tho the color gamut may be better then the 15, it´s color accuracy is not.

To me the envy 17 produced better colors. I think you should try to compare it to something other than the envy 15 because of the problems that the screen has. If anything I would think that it is a good thing that your screen doesn't match the 15

EDIT: or it could just be because I am viewing this on my work computer that has really washed out colors....

Thanks for the feedback. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Envy 17 has an IPS panel, not a TN panel? Also, I may be wrong, but I believe other than the red on the Envy 15, the color it's reproducing now seems much better than the Envy 17. I'm saying this based on actual photos I took with my camera, and it seems that the colors on the photos on the Envy 15 is much closer to what I see in real life, as compared to what's reproduced on the Envy 17. Hence that led me to believe that the screen on my Envy 17 has issues that other Envy 17 owners don't.

You need to modify the registry. I followed this guide, although there are other guides that tell you to copy over dll files from older drivers - I'm not sure which is the appropriate way to do it.

    Thanks for the rep =)

I believe it's a tn panel, last model was, you can test it yoursef, just push the screen back, then fowerd, and if the image darkner and then brighter we would know for sure.
you can try use an icc profile, like this.(use Chrome for the link)

"How do I use this icc file? Do I need the Spyder software to use it? If not, where do I drag the file I just downloaded?
Double click on the downloaded profile/ Right click and click Install Profile. Then, go Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Screen Resolution>Advanced Settings> Color Management. Click on Color Management, then check the box that says Use my settings for this device, then click add profile. From there, you can add the custom icc profile, or even calibrate one through windows."

if that icc profile is´t good for your scren you may have to find another more suitable.

I don't have the 17 to compare it with, but since you have a 15 and what looks to be a good camera, could I request that you do some shots comparing colors with a reliable monitor if you have one?

My 15 has a faded blue and slight greenish tint - it's slight and I didn't really catch it until comparing it with another screen - it seems like not everyone is affected and I want to determine how common it is and if a return would be wise.

Here's the thread I started with more details and a test you can do.

Sorry everyone for continually bringing this up! It bugs the hell out of me.

These are the only 2 screens that I have at the moment. In my opinion, the colors on the Envy 15 are more accurate (other than the red/orange issue) based on the colors reproduced for photos I took with my camera in comparison with what I see with my eyes in real life. It seems like the Envy 17 throws a very slight shade of violet into everything, so the images appear more cloudy. Check out the Envy 17 thread, I have more photos posted there comparing the 15 and 17.

Don't worry, I understand how you feel. The difference in colors are bugging me as well. What do you think is the most accurate screen I should compare it with? Would the latest Apple iMac computers be good?

Also I've tried pressing the screen, and the Envy 17 gets slightly darker when pressed. I guess that confirms that it is a TN panel. How foolish of me to think that by Radiance they mean IPS. :( I want my IPS screen!

Macs typically have well calibrated screens, although I'm not as familiar with the iMac it's probably decent. Otherwise you'd want to compare it well regarded desktop panel, or to a desktop IPS if possible.

Like some of the guys here i finally got my envy delivered today, and everything seamed fine for a moment and i get the blue screen of death and then and error that it does not "see" a boot drive.
Now it does that every time so i call hp service, they try to restore windows unsuccessfully so my enny is no good and needs to be returned.
After my second hp laptop i swore i would never buy another hp computer again,i'd looked at dell before buying the envy but they could not match the price or the specs of the envy plus they offer a two year warranty,so now i have to wait almost another month for a new one from china, i got them to give me a small discount and two day shipping. :(

Hi. I'm one of those many lurkers out there and also one of the members of the delayed shipment group.

I did finally receive my Envy today with the unfortunate luck of a dead pixel in the center of the screen. Lucky me. I called HP and they are building me a replacement laptop (Estimated ship date July 13th, which happens to be Friday the 13th. I get to have all kinds of luck.)

Anyway, so what motivated me to post is that there is a price difference of $52.60 between the laptop I ordered and the replacement build (after all coupons and discounts applied). Turns out the configuration I ordered had the Radeon 7690M, but the Envy 15t-32xx's now only ship with the 7750M. Now, the laptop I received has the 7750M dispite the fact that I ordered the 7690M. Due to this, they had to charge me $52.60 for the replacement, which should be automatically refunded once the replacement laptop is shipped, thankfully.

So, I'm curious. Was the 7690M never actually available? I did order the first day during the order page malfuntions. Were the other delayed laptops also configured with the 7690M? And, did we all accidentally receive a free $52.60 graphics card upgrade?

It was available as an option when the pages were still unconfigured, but I doubt many people chose it - I even think there was no price difference on the page.

The 7690 is for the sandy bridge envy. Most of us knew that the ivy bridge envy was getting the 7750 so we chose that one. If you ordered unsupported components, HP usually changes your configuration to the supported ones.

TheOverture, when you get a chance could you do the white screen test on the 15 and just see if the whites look shifted toward green/yellow?

I usually use this webpage to test the colors for my laptop: LCD Dead Pixel Test Backgrounds

Comparing the Envy 15 and 17 side by side, the white on the 17 is is more violet-ish, whereas the 15 seems more yellow-ish (kinda like off white). If you ask me which is whiter, I'd say the 17. But the white on the 15 isn't that bad. It's still white, but only slightly towards the "old-screen" white. Not sure how severe you mean by green/yellow, but if I only had the 15, I wouldn't even notice any problems with the white.

I've mentioned this about a week ago, but I had the privilege of comparing two Envy 15 Sandy Bridge side by side for a couple of hours (been doing lots of exchanging and refunding, really tired of it). The white on my first Envy 15 is definitely much whiter than the one I have now, although both units are supposed to be EXACTLY the same (both are quick ship models, the 15-3040nr). So I guess there will be very slight differences between units of the exact same model.

If there's a particular white test you want me to do, let me know. I'll wait till it's nighttime to post photos because the sun is currently distorting the colors on my camera.

I had that issue with my previous Envy 15 Sandy Bridge. The foam isn't properly cut/placed, causing the disc to be reinserted into the optical disc drive whenever it's ejected. Had to use a stick to "expand" the opening of the foam to eject the disc.

Ended up getting a replacement unit and the optical disc drive works flawlessly on this one. If it really bothers you, get a replacement.

    Mine ejects flawlessly.

The only problem I've had with the envy is probably software related, I really don't know that yet, but it's been a problem and I want to ask if any of you guys know what it might be. But the problem I have been having is while I'm in game, whether it's League of Legends or World of Warcraft, my fps drops to 1-2 and the sounds starts to sound distorted and robotish if you know what I mean. I usually have skype running all the time, since I game with my friend.

The exact same thing happens to me! Glad to know someone else is having this issue. I was on the phone with HP tech support, and I updated my Bios, and my graphics drivers to Catalyst beta 12.6, but the problem is still there. I have no idea what the problem is, unfortunately, but at least our 7750m's aren't broken as I was beginning to worry (or at least, it would seem that they aren't since we both are experiencing the issue). Perhaps it is a switchable graphics issue? I need to investigate more before I can give a definitive answer.

Ok I've narrowed it down, I believe it's a process called audiodg.exe because when I got that weird issue I ended that process and the computer was fine, but with no audio, so I'm going to look this up and see if anybody has a fix for this kind of thing.

Hmmm. Was it at the top of the processes list or something? Either way:

A memory leak issue occurs in the Audiodg.exe process when you play audio on a computer that is running Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008

Should we perhaps try that? If you saw that the audiodg.exe process was eating up tons of RAM then that's exactly what the microsoft fix describes.
