After pushing down the felt a lot the discseems to be ejecting a little better but it'll still only eject like 1/10 times and i need to grab on to the very tiny part of the discc that comes out and pull it out :/

I feel like down the road, it'll get worse not better... I want one that works properly because i can see myself using it a bit, installing games, music CDs...

best of lucks with yours man!

Edit- i think i manage to fixed my eject cover too... working properly now that i push down the foam mnore... hopefully it won't create problems to come... not sure to return cuz my screen the blue is faded

I couldn't figure it out either, anyone have any help?

And does swapping the hard drive for something else really void the warranty?

Well that's some great news (on the optical drive that is)! Sorry about the screen :( The colors seems like a huge issue with these screens, fortunately I lucked out with a perfect screen. Especially since my job requires it haha (Graphic designer)

Best of luck to you and all of you out there

    and DEMAND that discount! :)

Those of you that have begun, or contacted HP about returns, where do I start? I want to get in touch with them and if they can guarantee me a good screen without ruining my otherwise perfect laptop I will go through with it.

ill have to dl it haha but ima reinstall windows and stuff first.. there is wayyy too much bloatware to continue on. I just wanted to c how far I could push it :p. I could prolly go up alittle more on the memory and with better drivers that should go up alittle more also.

there is no fixed option. if the comp isnt running the card when u game, just leave the game and go to switchable graphics and choose high performance.

my damn stupid envy would be perfect if it wasnt for that stupid foam and stupid slight bulge on the bottom of the screen glass :(

If someone would be brave enough to disassemble the laptop and show how to remove heatsink for repasting, that would be greatly appreciated.

Check the service manual I linked you a few posts up. To remove the heatsink you pretty much have to disassemble the entire computer. I've done it on the old Envy 14 - I imagine it'd be fairly similar. But really repasting won't make a huge difference. Maybe 1-2c.

Yeah did anybody figure out how to manually switch graphics in Windows or under the bios? It would be nice to able to switch back and forth without having to reboot.

no the bulge is only the glass covering thats bulginng out. It was happening on the side but i snapped it back in but i was scared to do the bottom cause i wasnt getting leverage. I manned up and stuck a fork in there and popped it in. now its fine. Only problem i have now is that stupid felt :(

oh another update on envy status:

the notebook runs surprisingly cool. Yesterday night while i was running 3dmark11 (I ran this like 20 times) the left side of the laptop was cold metal. (btw my house temp was at like 67F at that time :p) the right side wasnt "cold" but it wasnt "warm" either. it was neutral. the only warm spot was near the top right, on the left of the screen hinge. conincidentally right above where the fan is :p. but yeah im very pleased with the cooling. Kinda dissappointed i couldnt OC it mroe :(

do u guys still want videos? :p

well at least one thing is fixed now...I feel like there is something we as users can do with the felt instead of sending it back to get a new one. I just don't know what that is...

Mine hasn't acted up again since that first time...it seems that other time, the inserting and ejecting (when it does eject) (also there's a "that's what she said joke" in there haha) of the disk it would mat down the foam. But that's my theory, which could be completely wrong.

Just wondering for you Envy 15 owners, can you feel any vibration at all when you rest your hand on the laptop? My Envy 15 has quite a bit of vibration, whereas I feel nothing at all for my Envy 17.

I want to see as 7750m is hard to get a lot of scores and gaming performance for. Also if you have a power consumption reader when playing games at high settings please let me know. All I cuurently know is 7970m accoording to notebookcheck is very power efficient. If your 7870m is fully stressed in game and in 3dmark11 or vantage or 06 and takes 80-90w I will be wanting the 7870m. I reckon the 7870m is virtually as powerful as a 580m but the 7970m should run better at games then that.

The vibration that I'm getting from the Envy 15 is constant - doesn't get any faster or slower whatsoever. Could be from the hard drive or the fan. I've had two Envy 15 units so far; the first doesn't have any vibration AT ALL, just like my Envy 17 currently. The second Envy 15 I received had constant vibration (minor, not audible, but can still be felt) throughout the laptop. I was thinking that either the fan or the hard drive wasn't fastened properly onto the laptop chassis. I believe if it was constructed perfectly, you'll totally zero vibration, just like my first Envy 15 and current Envy 17. Just wondering if anyone else with the latest Envy 15 have the same issue.

Mine has no vibration whatsoever. I imagine it'd have to be the HDD or fan. You can always open up the panel and put your finger on the HDD to see if it's actually coming from that.

BTW, could someone point me to HP customer support to inquire about an exchange/return? I'd love it if there's a shortcut rather than going through their webpage and just looking up contact info and going through their loops.

    Here: | HP® Official Store

You can call 1-800-407-4005 to reach their returns and exchanges customer service department.

Btw, I believe the vibration I'm getting is coming from the hard disk, since it doesn't get more severe when the fans are running at full blast during intense gaming sessions. Oh well, I'm returning that unit anyway.

i just used the afterburner temp monitorying

I have the 7750m :p my previous post is basically it pushed to its limit... i havent maxed the memory yet but its close so the scores wont be much off. I hope supported drivers will boost its performance. Im dling bf3 right now ill let u know how it goes.

on the sides and top u gotta exert alittle bit of pressure and it should pop right in. for the bottom portion which is harder to get to cause of the body of the laptop, i just put a fork inbetween the two and applied force.

I really think you got the short end of the stick and got a faulty unit. Most reviews of the envy's have talked about how it stays really cool for the most part, and the fan is audible but really only speeds up for games. Your best bet is to send it back for a replacement. Ya the wait sucks but that's what i did with my Dv6, except i got an envy instead.

Getting a laptop with no flaws is like gambling. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you do pretty good, and very few times you'll do great. I mean they make it in china with people who dont know that much about computers, just how to follow orders, so if there's a small issue with there build process they wont know how to fix it let alone recognize it. And i guess that's alright because thats what we pay for. HP has got some decent prices for a reason. And not to say anyone like dell or apple has more educated people building their machines because they cost more, that price is just because they built a name.

With that said i finally order my envy 15

Hopefully im a lucky one =)

fan spun up near the end of my hr long session but the metal remains cool... even chilly since my house is cold atm... the only heatup would be on the left side of the right screen hinge
and that is like not regular cold metal. it just feels warm nothing that would cause a sweat... i would say like body skin temp haha..... :D and by ultra, i mean the ultra preset

idle fan is drowned out by any background noise, right now my central ac is running and its drowning out the fans. the palm rests are chilly but the one on the right is a bit warmer than other cause of hdd. I didnt check out internal temps but when i was ocing yesterday they remained cool in benchmarks. right now i was using speakers but i hadda put it on low volume cause its 2 in the morning and everyone is asleep but yeah if u have it at like medium (50) volume, it should drown itout. ill let u know about that tmrw when i play with higher volume :p.

in my opinoin the fans were loud but comparing it to my old laptop, which got that loud and even louder when i just stream 720p video, they are good.

also another thing i noticed, my space bar is slow in coming back up.. or sticky key... anyone else having that issue?

finally something u guys can try out (especially for the guy wondering about the fan being on all the time, there is an option in bios for the fan setting u cna turn off the always on option. my fans dont run now on idle

I'm going crazy trying to get the discrete graphics to work. I upgraded to an SSD drive. Did a clean install of Windows 7 and installed all the drivers from the SWSetup dir. My graphics seems to be stuck on the Intel HD4000 card. I have tried every options, etc and I can't get it to use the 7750 Radeon card. It appears in my devices but can't get it to kick in. Anybody have this problem?

You need to use a color calibrator to measure and calibrate your Envy 17 screen. I have a feeling your Envy 17 is showing much more accurate colors than the Envy 15, because I have a Sony SE and it shows a very yellow tint. After calibration with the Spyder4, the gamma and temperature calibration removed a bit of the yellow, but not completely. Here is my monitor profile:

As you can see, it's shifted to yellow. I can't see red or violet, and deep green is not there either.
