hmm, 7750m is between the gt 650m and 640m.
I hope notebookcheck get lots of reviews with these new gpus to see power consumption. I reckon yours should take around 90w full system load while gaming.
Do you have a power consumption reader where you just plug you adaptor in and it can read how myuch power it takes when doing different tasks.
-
-
ill benchmark bf3 today gotta dl first
its much closer to 650m than 640m i would say aroubd 5% less -
Why are there 2 different drivers for the video. Only thing I can tell different is the size of the files.
-
Just thought I'd post this for anyone looking for an SSD. This price is pretty much unbeatable anywhere else(512gb for $339.99)... One of the best brands (Crucial M4) you can trust...
Buy.com - Crucial M4 512GB 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive (SSD) -
Did you create your restore discs? Do a minimal restore from them if you did.
-
Would you be able to do a Spyder calibration for the Envy 15? I've color corrected it by eye, and while it helps, it's disconcerting to know that other people have panels without issues (although a lot of us have had some issue).
-
Yo does anyone else have uneven backlit keys? most of mine are great but a few particularly esc delete prt sc and insert enter are a little uneven.
-
yeah everyone's is like that i belive
did anyone notice that the laptop charges fast? or maye cause i havent experienced laptops recenly haha... i pluged it in at like 1pm and its 2 and its full :S -
umm how do you adjust the keyboard lighting?
-
backlight key + up/down
-
Thank you, lowest looks fine to.
-
Hi everyone. I just got my new envy and I love it. But I'm having an issue with the power supply. It's making a clicking/scratching-like noise. It's not too hot and it works fine but this concerns me. Can anyone else see if theirs does this or chime in on whether this is normal or not? Thanks.
-
Nope. I ended up wiping it. I may need to order the recovery discs from HP.
-
You're talkin about the power brick? That is very peculiar... No mine doesn't make any noise... I've never heard of any power brick making noise... Sounds bad...
-
interesting on the SSD front were looking at £130 for 256gb, makes sense to spend the extra £70 on the 512gb if you can get away with no import tax.
-
Yes sir the power brick. It almost sounds like an external hard drive. (Don't worry I can tell the difference.) Mine isn't extremely loud, when it was on the floor I couldn't hear it but once I put it on my desk I could hear it and that's when I noticed it. If I put my ear up to it there's no questioning that this thing is making noise. It works fine though and when the computer is sleeping or off the brick is silent. My concern is the safety aspect of it.
-
It shouldn't make noise but it's not uncommon. It's just the capacitors and such - I've had power bricks make noise before - it's more annoying than anything else, but definitely keep an eye out on temperature and see if your power ever cuts out.
-
Okay, thanks. I'll keep an eye on it.
-
Wow, after using this thing for a couple days now, I'm not seeing any of the problems you all have mentioned. The glass was popped out at first, but after popping it back in it's been perfect. I've tried putting in and ejecting a dvd a couple times and it's worked every time. And the 7750m has been perfect for the couple games I've tried. I've also haven't noticed a single color on the screen that makes me wonder if the colors are off, so it doesn't bother me. I wish the rest of you were having the same luck as I am with my Envy. I'm beyond satisfied.
-
Does anyone have any suggestions other than autokeyconfig to get my F10 key to eject my discs? I swapped the internal drive and the eject key doesn't seem to talk to it.
-
Lol its post like that that give me hope for a good model
-
If you shake the powerbrick (unplugged from A/C & laptop) does it rattle? The only thing that if working properly could make that noise is the auto switching portion or trickle charge. Mine is still lost in the HP factory so I can't check mine but it would be a concern if mine did it as I understand how powerbricks function (BMET, EET, degreed) and they don't switch mechanically any longer.
-
Thanks for all the info in this thread. I'm considering the Envy 15 vs the Vizio CN15-A2 and the Lenovo Ideapad Y580.
I'm a bit shocked there's no blu ray option in the Envy..... -
Same here, but it just wasn't a big deal to me. i have never seen anything I'm blue ray and with Netflix it's really not a big deal.

Hey guys, here's me and my friends situation. My friend got hp to send him the new ivy bridge 15t as a replacement for one of his older envys because he was having a lot of issues with it and they accidentally sent it to his older address (he lives in WV now but used to live near me). I went to his old address and picked up the laptop for him so it's currently in my possession now (sill unopened of course) but he's not sure if he should request an upgraded replacement or if he should ask hp to cover the shipping if i were to ship it to his current address (since shipping a laptop is super expensive)? any thoughts???
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
They accidentally sent it to the wrong address? Or he accidentally didn't give them the updated address? I think you should be able to forward it to the correct address - you could look it up with whatever shipping company they used. -
After much much waiting, my laptop its finallly shipping! Hasn't shown up in the FedEx system yet, but I finally got a number. The end is in sight!
Given all the defects most of you guys have seen with yours, I expect mine to be polished with Meg Whitman's own tears as an apology!
Hopefully the delay means I won't get some of these, but who knows. I would definetely not be looking forward to another 3 weeks of waiting if that isn't the case.... -
For a "premium" model, there are too many issues that are bundled with the purchase of this laptop. The screen, the poor quality control (e.g. dents, scratches, ODD sticking), and the switchable graphics ongoing issue.
I understand that HP is not completely at fault for the limited availability of 15.6" displays other than those provided by LG, and the switchable graphics issue is not completely at the fault of HP either, however, to allow for such poor quality control, it is just unfathomable on how HP can operate at this manner in regards to their "premium" product offerings.
The design is very nice. The features are desirable as well. However, HP's downfall is that they do not recognize the needs of their target market for premium laptops. With the introduction of USB 3.0, the elimination of an integrated ODD would be the obvious choice to reduce the size, weight, and in return, increase the potability and desirability of the notebook.
Take a note from Apple, they understand their target markets wants in its design and internal hardware offerings. HP is simply offering products and hoping they catch on. -
OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $40 after rebate.
Here is a great deal on a SSD. I know it is only 60GB but it's enough to do OS and have fun playing with with one. For $40 after rebate , being a name brand, I thought I'd post. This is a one day deal & I will predict they will be sold out by 3-5pm EST. Like I said I realize this is not an agility 4 & it's only 60GB but it's also only $40 after rebate.
If you get one send a Rep -
Did you replace it with a blu-ray? If so what model? Keep us up to date with your issues please. I know there are several people on this forum that are interested in doing a swap.
-
Totally agree about the quality control. But the screen seems fine to me. Others have reported some blue colors being washed out but I have not noticed that yet.
As far as the graphics I haven't had time to do much gaming yet other that diablo 3 which like others have reported works fine. I remember hearing on the older envy 15 that there was a program that you could uses to manually switch dedicated graphics to be always on. Lets hope that hp is working on that...
As far as the ODD I think someone said earlier in here or maybe it was another thread that they are looking into taking that out of the next envy 15. Since this is just a refresh they were just updating the model that was out late last year. And given that the new mbp has no optical drive I would assume that hp would follow up and copy that. -
sorry internet issues I ended up posting too many times
-
Just got this E-Mail! Yay!!! I had an ETA build date of 6/27 so its a couple days ahead of schedule!!

We appreciate your business and hope you will look to the HP Home and Home Office Store for your future computing and printing needs.
SPECIAL NOTE for Customized Laptops & Notebooks:

It looks like more and more of these 3200 units are reaching customers without flaws.after an initial rush-to- market that had some serious QC issues,it seems that the number of factory defects have tapered off. Perhaps I was fortunate to receive a pristine unit. no color issues. OOD works fine. .etc i thought usb 3.0 was in these Laptops, as for the inclusion of the OOD; really do those couple of ounces really make a difference?. I can live with that, it only increases functionality. If I wanted a fruity Air machine i would've paid the extra for it, and for all the associated extra interface cables require. Quite happy
-
Yay, FedEx now has a record of my shipment.
I had originally gotten 2-day, so they have an estimated delivery of June 27, by 10.30 AM. Let's see if FedEx can pick it up, get it to Alaska, clear customs, and get to my place in less than 48 hours!
Edit:
Wow, that was fast, apparently it was recieved after a cutoff and has now been changed to June 29.
Yay FedEx? -
I had a really long talk with an HP customer service rep, think you guys may be interested:
So I received my ENVY last Thursday. The entire thing is absolutely immmaculate except for a dent on one of the front speaker ports. Most people would probably live with in, but I wouldn't. I expect perfection when I pay that much money for a laptop. Anyway, I call her and explain my problem, and she legitimately seems interested. She goes on to explain that HP had to switch production facilities in the middle of production, and that some of the laptops were scrambled around and screwed up. They just got to their permanent production facility. So she tells me sorry for the dent, and forwards me to the refund department. The guy takes my information, orders a new laptop, matches the price plus an extra $50 off for my troubles. He (a supervisor) likewise told me that HP had a crazy demand in the beginning, and that they had to switch to a bigger production facility, etc, and that the models currently being built should be perfect. My new laptop is supposed to be shipped July 4th.
I loved this laptop for the few days I had it. It was fantastic. I was able to play B3 at full settings at about 30 fps. It stayed cool, and with the SSD it boots from cold in just over a second. It's fantastic. So HP has QC issues, sure. But this is an amazing laptop. I'd be willing to keep returning laptops until I get one that is perfect. Because I know once I do, it's the best laptop I could have gotten.
Really, my only qualm is the use of acrylic instead of glass on the screen panel. HP uses gorilla glass on the Spectre. I felt like it would have been a nice touch here. But it's a fantastic laptop. The QC issues are only a problem in the beginning. A two-week setback would never deter me from choosing differently on a laptop that I'll have for 5+ years. That would be rash. -
Seriously, after having logged some hours on the phone with HP CS reps I wouldn't believe a single word they say.
Btw, I'm still waiting for them to ship my 6/3 order. -
That's interesting because i would. I had a good experience with there customer support when i had my DV6.
-
what are peoples battery lives? Yesterday night i was streaming a few tv epsiodes an d i was kinda dissappointed. It lasted around 3-4 hrs with streaming youtube 480p video + some browsing and fb chatting is that good/normal?
-
btw im starting to enjoy the trackpad. it was really annoying in the beginning but i think i have grown on it
-
That's average for a 15inch. They may have and 8 cell battery in this comp guys but the actually Watthours are not much more then most six cells. the only batter i Truly found amazing was the dv6 9cell. That had almost doubled the watthours and i could last 10 hours of regular use and probably 6-7 in your scenario. To bad playing games with it made the laptop get really hot on the surface.
-
As much as I may want to beleive it, I'm with arod20832 on this. My laptop was supposed to ship on the 12th. The morning of the 13th, I call and the guy tells me he can see that its ready and just waiting for FedEx to pick it up. That afternoon I got a shipping delay notice. It shipped today...
-
actually i was looking around and i dont think thats right.... i checked up on devicemanager and i dont think i have the correct drivers for the hd4000 installed. it says amd driver for it :| now how do i install this hmm.... ima reinstall the drivers
-
I'm going to get in touch with HP later about my screen, any advice on how to get to a supervisor? I can chat at work, but not phone - should I wait till late hours and call - although I'm worried I'll be sent to a phone overseas.
-
Hey guys, you may have heard my problem in another thread, but I live in the UK and I really want to buy the Envy 15 from the US store (HP UK currently doesn't sell it here, it is far overpriced, has no coupons, and is not customisable :S). I am thinking of using a service such as this, MyUS.com - MyUS.com - Top Rated Package and Mail Forwarding which receives the package and imports the laptop to me in England. However, what would happen it there is (probably) a few faults that I am forced to talk to HP and return it? Would I still be eligible to have it replaced? And would I have to talk to the HP in the US or UK?
Alternatively, I am going to be going to be in San Francisco for a bit on holiday... So instead should I buy it there? Problem with that is that I have to buy it in store, so no coupons and no customising. I also cant buy it online since (learning from all the delays other people have had) it would not arrive in time...
Lastly, do you guys know if the HP US site only takes in only American cards or International cards as well? If it only accepts US cards it greatly complicates things. So uh, what do you think I should do? It's a horrible situation I know...
-
Why don't you just ship it to the hotel you'll be staying at in San Francisco? Call the hotel ahead of time and ask them their policy on sending/receiving packages (Some may charge a fee, but It will surely be cost-effective in your situation).
-
I actually just called tech support. They were super friendly and helpful. She forwarded me to the sales department, or whoever takes care of these problems. As far as getting a supervisor, just ask for one. A supervisor actually answered my call. I called on a Saturday afternoon, around 6. The guy had an accent but was still totally understandable. You should be fine no matter when you call.
My statement earlier was simply that there is a whole lot of complaining about QC issues in this thread. But honestly, what are you going to do? Do you think getting a refund or whatever (or God forbid, 8 people getting a refund...) will really hurt HP? No. They're a fortune 500 company. Your complaining will get very little done. Be positive. Think about the value you are getting here. If you want Apple's QC, then go pay an extra $1000 for a less impressive computer. I'm sure they'll get your order right the first time. But until any of us are willing to fork over $2500 or more for a similar laptop, just be patient. You'll have this laptop for a long time, whether or not it gets delayed by three weeks right now. -
But I heard the HP shipping always gets delayed and unreliable, what happens if doesn't arrive on time when I am there and only after I leave?
-
Anybody have issues with an external USB HDD randomly getting disconnected, asking to format, etc? I updated my USB Drivers but it seems the problem isn't going away.
-
Just got it today. Turned it on and blue screened! Now it says windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, corrupt
