Try hitting F11 at boot and run HP recovery. It'll do a factory restore.
-
I already did. It says "create file failed" and "recovery not supported under current configuration, please enable acceleration option for Intel Smart Response Technology and try again".
-
Maybe HP can express you some recovery discs? Hopefully it's not a bad drive.
-
Just called HP. They are sending recovery disks.
-
Hey guys, I just got the email update on my order that was suppose to ship last week. The expected date is now 2 more weeks out. Funny thing is if I go to order one today on the website, it gives me the exact ship date as my now delayed ship date. So what the ....? I could place an order today and get it the same time, REALLY?
My question for everyone out there is what was the best deal anyone out there was able to negotiate for HP's stellar performance?
I was considering asking for a quickship but the website says quickship models only come with a 1 year warranty. Anyway what was the most $, upgrade, anything that anyone was able to procure?
Thanks for any responses.

Do you have to send your Envy first before they make this exchange for you or after you recieve the new unit? I feel the same way you do about the QC issues and more so because of the money this laptop costs. The only thing is that I don't want to go back to using my older laptop. The USB dent, faulty ejecting of disks, and loose battery cover are really irking me. I mean I can get by these issues, but they shouldn't exist being that the Envy isn't some cheap laptop.
-
If you look back a few pages i posted that i had to return mine a few days
ago for the same exact issue your experiencing, went thru the
troubleshooting with an HP rep did the F11 key and such and it turned out that my
envy needed to be replaced, I would caution you not to troubleshoot your self if your do in so, and make sure HP makes
it right, i would hate for you to end up with a lemon.
sincerely -
so no fix yet on the switchable graphics? Any updates on this, the HP reps tech support was wrong.
I also noticed my screen was popped out so I popped it back in.
Finally on a side note anyone else with a 3200 notice the trackpad is very stiff and for me the top left corner where you togggle the trackpad on and off is raised and not dipped in -
Hey Pakii94, anyone ever reply to the email you sent out to cto hp?
-
Just noticed an interesting bug, pressing "asdf" specifically "asd" quickly in succession my keyboard will suddenly popup with a "6". It actually happens in a few places
asd6f as6df as6df
qw.er qw.er qw.er
zxc3v zxc3v zxc3v
uio.p uio.p
Could some others try this? -
i got a reply from ceo but not the cto email. this is what i got:
-
They didn't give you the $100 credit? I got mine along with the $42 for two day shipping. Push for it.
-
Thanks Pakii, they completely skirted the compensation question lol.
The best I have gotten through chat so far is a $50 credit, had to go through many representatives, but I eventually got it, lol. With this credit, it makes my envy 17 the same price as the dv7t i returned, lol. -
I don't have access to the envy to do a measurement, but if someone does, I would really like to see how the new screen compares in terms of color gamut coverage. please pm me a screenshot of the results if you do. -
Sure.
asdasdasdasdasdfasd6fasd6fasd6fasd6fasd6fasdfasdfsad6fasd6fasd6f
Hmmm. So it doesn't happen with asd, only when I add the f.

I got it to happen with zxcv, but not uiop....
qwe.r qwe.r
Happens with qwer though.
eryt eryt eryt
Typing erty quickly, the y always ends up before the t. The first two letters appear, then "yt" appear at the same time.
This is really odd.... -
Yay finally got mine in my hands! FIrst expression seems to be nice. After closer inspection I noticed couple of dents and the blue doesn't go very deep...And also got the eject problem lol but I pressed the felt down and now it works so, so.
And the screen bulges at the bottom, been trying to pop it in but havent succeeded yet >.< Anyone got a tip? -
Haha I didn't even realise this until I read your post. Now that I've tested it I feel jibbed haha
To be honest my finger doesn't even go up there when I'm using the track pad so it's not really an issue. I've been using my mouse 99% of the time anyway
Also had to pop my screen back in, but that wasn't really an issue, just glad it was easily solved -
Sounds like the Envy 15 is just a mess, should have gone for the Envy 17 ^_^
-
I fixed the bottom bulge by closing the screen and then from the back of the laptop using my nail to push back on the screen frame that wasn't properly clipped in. It did the trick.
I have a question regarding the beats audio. In my opinion, the sound on my dv5's altec lansing speakers were far superior. The Envy's speakers sound like a can. Is there settings I can change that would help the sound? Can you provide me with the equalization values I should have along with the CENTER, SPACE, BASS, AND TREBLE values?
Thanks! -
Yeah this is definitely ghosting. I reported it to HP along with my screen issue for the exchange, and mentioned to them that I don't believe it's fixable.
-
You can do it however you'd like. If you have the funds in the bank, it's faster to just order a brand new laptop. That's what I did. But if you don't, HP sends you a shipping label via email that you attach to the computer and ship to Memphis. It gets there, you wait 3-5 days and they will place an order for the new laptop. Or in my case, refund the laptop.
-
I can't take the wait any longer!!!

Based on some of the quality issues on my laptop I think it has to be returned/exchanged but if I re-order I was thinking of going to the base hard drive not their SSDs and installing my own after market SSD.
I'm fairly competent with a computer. But I was wondering if I experience any trouble with the Envy when taking the supplied HD and putting in the SSD one and re-installing windows. As long as I make a recovery that I can use to install it on the SSD drive I don't forsee any issues.
Does anyone know if this one is good and will work?
Crucial M4 CT512M4SSD2CCA 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive
Any advice would be appreciated

That's what I did. I played around with the lappy for about 5 minutes, then made recovery disc, then took out 750GB drive and replaced with SSD. Very easy to do. I actually just downloaded all the drivers from HP's site to make sure I had most up to date. With the SSD it is blazing fast, especially boot up. here is the Mushkin drive I purchased...
Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240 GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s
Now if I can just fugure out how to get rid of the DVD drive that I will never use and put the 750GB drive in its place!? -
Thanks, I didn't think it would be difficult. And double thanks for the heads up on the driver advice.
The current Envy was overpriced for the SSD that I got but is still larger than the one you linked to. Any thought on the 512 GB one above. It went up in proce since this morning but I assume I can snag it for about $360 at some point. -
Prices are dropping like a rock on SSD drives.
Here is a link to everything you want to know about SSD drives and performance... -
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but can anyone tell me the color gamut, contrast ratio, and brightness on the display?
-
Hey guys, I have a few questions (if you'll indulge me). I'm trying to make a recommendation to someone I know for a new 15" notebook intended for mainly fairly heavy CPU usage, but some graphics as well. I did try to search around first before asking; sorry if some of these things have been noted before. I also tried to find reviews of this model but I seem to be running into almost exclusively those concerning the Sandy Bridge variant.
1. How are thermals on this version of the Envy 15, overall? Does it get very loud and hot under sustained load, or does it do a relatively good job overall?
2. How well do the switchable graphics work, overall? I've occasionally seen complaints about Enduro, but not much follow-up on that issue.
3. I noticed some people have said the new panel has issues with blues/greens, although at least one person (PaKii) appears to have a panel without issues. Is the new display generally good, or are color problems still common?
4. For those of you who've had to go through it, has HP's support generally been OK or have they been unsatisfactory, specifically with regard to service on this model?
Thanks to anyone who can help. No worries if you guys don't feel like answering. I thought I'd ask just in case, though
-
1. Thermals are good. The laptop gets warm but not hot, topping out at ~80c when gaming.
2. Some people have had issue with switchable graphics not detecting their apps and there is no manual option in the BIOS.
3. I just returned mine for the blue issue. I offered to show them the thread but they refused - instead they wrote everything down and assured me it would be fixed - so we'll see. Otherwise the display is quite nice, and unless you're picky like me the blues wouldn't bother you.
4. Support was good, although a little frustrating at times. -
Would you say it's better than the Radiance Envy 14?
-
i love the display. i still stand behind the fact that there is nothing wromg with it. maybe i cant c colors lol. and switchable gpu is working fine
-
Hey is there any way you can get color gamut, brightness, and contrast/know where you can find it?
-
Hey, I don't have an Envy yet, but if I remember correctly, ( I think it was from one of PaKii's posts) apparently turning off the Beats audio produces a fuller sound! Try Fn + B, hopefully it will do the trick...
-
If the colors are correct, yes. The extra resolution is good and the angles are improved. The radiance is much brighter and vibrant buy for my needs the resolution and shapes trump it.

Gotta admit, FedEx 2-day is pretty fast. The package got picked up at noon yesterday (my time), and it arrived in anchorage at 4PM today. Assuming no delays in customs there, it may even be on their flight out tonight and in my hands tomorrow!

Thank you for your feedback! The screen issue is important, since I'm recommending this to someone else and, as far as I understand, one of their intended uses is photo editing. I wonder if Pakii's is the norm, or yours is...
Hmm...is it possible for you to compare it to a calibrated monitor and see how it performs? If not, no worries! As I said in the L521X thread, I bet you're happy you went with the Envy 15 now, eh? -
Thanks! Unfortunately I tried with a fork and a spoon first xD left some scratches with no results... But your way did it!
-
That sucks... At least its fixed now
-
Has anyone managed to get the "two finger" for right click to work? I can't seem to right click without having to use the "physical" buttons on the bottom...
-
Mine works on the Envy 17. It's not a simple tap, have to push the pad a little.
-
Got it. Thanks. I didnt think of pushing so hard on the pad. It should simply be a tap like a single left click.
-
nope i dun have that equipment/software... if u guys know how i can find it then lemme knwo ill try
haha no what my posts said was beats audio does make a difference and that the sound seems much more crisp/clear/realistic than if u turn it off by fn+b. i was just dissapointed with the bass but still its pretty deep considering its from a laptop
yeah i dont got a calibrated monitor but i compared it with my friends who has the orange issue from last one, and mine def showing reds. and the other colors match up if not better. the blues for a fact go deep and arnt faded. yeah im happy with my envy. the dell is nice buts its underspeced. I dont think the thinness is worth it for the same weight, superior screen, superior hardware, superior audio. Only thing i odnt like about it is stupid customer service and amd switchable graphics. they made it so much more complicated. hopefully this is solved with driver updates that support the 7750m
yeah u gotta push down on it. i wish it was just 2 finger tap
what is ur method again? i havent fixed mine yet
WDIT: nvm i thought u were talking about the cd drive lol. mine i just put in a fork carfully b/w the gap and applied pressure -
I had my envy for a few days and I'm pretty impressed no flaws besides the bottom cover is slightly loose but that's understandable because it's not screwed down, I removed my battery just so I don't kill it too soon, screen and colors are great fairly quiet I can't even hear the fans when idle. Does not get hot at all and fans don't get to loud when gaming. I feel like I lucked out with an almost perfect machine
-
I'm surprised no one has reviewed this thing yet. I really want to see a review before making a decision. I kinda wish anandtech or notebookcheck would review it. It's been out for a long time already.
-
people just have been getting it. i have made a few small videosbut nothing major. ill have that stuff up by weds
-
My bottom cover is rock solid, which has me worried that the unit I'm exchanging it for won't be.
How common and how loose is this thing? -
Thanks a bunch. I know you guys are just getting them, but I'm surprised engadget, cnet, etc. hasn't made a review.
-
mine is pretty solid too so im hesitating about returning mine cause of the slight bulge on one of the usb and the felt on the cd drive...
i think its cause its the same styling as the previous one except with upgraded specs. but i also wish they would review again because i think these envys are a step up compared to the previous ones. better hardware, better panel better touchpad etc. some thing to lessen the bad rep envy recieved for the orangegate issue -
It's only noticeable if you fiddle with it but nothing major or worth sending it back for, I barley even notice its loose
